REVIEW:ACQUISITION is the second instalment in Nana Malone’s contemporary, adult KINGS OF THE BOARDROOM erotic, romance suspense series focusing on billionaire businessman Atticus Price, and algorithm developer Gwen Becker. ACQUISITION should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the cliff hanger and events of book one TAKEOVER.

NOTE: For fans of Nana Malone there are a number of crossovers and characters from the author’s See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil interconnected trilogies. If you have not read TAKEOVER, there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Becks Corporation is struggling and in an effort to bump up the bottom line, James Becker offers up a deal to the highest bidder, a deal including marriage to one of his daughters. Atticus Price wants what the Becks Corporation has to offer .When Atticus discovers the deal comes with an arranged marriage, Atticus pushes to come out on top but the daughter offered is not the daughter he wants. Enter Gwen Becker, the woman with whom Atticus will fall in love

Told from dual first person perspectives (Atticus and Gwen) ACQUISITION picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one TAKEOVER. Gwen Becker has been spiralling since Atticus Price broke off their engagement, and kicked our heroine out of his life. Now working in London, Gwen will come face to face with the man who broke her heart but all is not as it appears to be, and Gwen will be targeted by the man at the top. Several attempts on Gwen’s life finds Atticus both guardian and protector of the woman he loves but someone is determined to take down our story line heroine.

The world building continues to focus on the tempestuous relationship between our story line couple, and the ongoing dysfunctional dynamics of two families whose lives have been upended by one of their own.

The relationship between Gwen and Atticus is a roller coaster of secrets and lies. Gwen’s life is in danger but our heroine is often TSTL demanding her independence, often times placing herself in the direct line of fire. Atticus continues to struggles between wanting to protect Gwen at all costs, and destroying the man who is taking aim at our story line couple. The love scenes are provocative and intense but, once again, I dislike the use of a certain four letter word, although only used once, more for shock than anything else.

We are reintroduced to Gwen’s sister Morgan, and their questionable father James Becker; Atticus’ brother Micah, their mother Jessica, Atticus’ driver Gavin, as well as Gwen’s best friend Lance Lakewood. The requisite evil is someone familiar.

ACQUISITION is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, greed and jealousy, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, gritty and twisted; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are animated and dynamic. ACQUISITION ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
