REVIEW:BROKEN PACT is the first instalment in Penelope Black’s contemporary, adult AVALON FALLS erotic, romance series, a spin off, set in the author’s ROSEWOOD series. This is Rosewood Reapers’ MC member Jasper ‘Jagger’ Devereaux, and twenty-eight year old, bakery owner Coraline Carter’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jasper and Coraline) BROKEN PACT follows the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Years earlier, Jasper Devereaux unknowingly broke Coraline Carter’s heart, pushing away the woman with whom he would fall in love. Fast forward to present day, Coraline’s new business is threatened, her ex wants her back,and Jasper is determined to claim Coraline as his own. Offering a fake relationship, Jasper becomes Coraline’s guardian and protector but someone else is waiting on the sidelines determined to destroy our story line heroine. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Coraline and Jasper, and the potential fall-out as the past refused to let go, threatening the safety of the woman Jasper’s loves.

The world building follows several paths including Coraline’s tempestuous relationship with her family, and the rekindling romance with our story line hero. Meanwhile, Jasper is focusing on protecting the woman he loves but his own father’s past is determined to take charge. There is a possible serial killer in Avalon Falls, and there may be a connection to our story line couple.

The relationship between Jasper and Coraline is second chance romance. Coraline saw what she wanted to see, pushing Jasper out of her life. Determined to claim Coraline as his own, Jasper is taking precautions when Coraline’s past refuses to let go. The $ex scenes are passionate and provocative but I struggle with the use of a certain four-letter word.

We are introduced to Coraline’s extended family including her brothers Beau and Graham, their parents Hazel and Lucas Turner, as well as Jasper’s best friend Hawke, the local ‘Golden Girls’, and Coraline’s ex Grant. The requisite evil has many faces.

BROKEN PACT is a story of obsession and madness, betrayal and determination, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is twisted and engaging ; the characters are animated and stubborn; the romance is fated and spicy.

I want to add, I am not sure if this is an MC series, or a series with an MC side story as the next instalment focuses on Coraline’s sibling.

REVIEW: OUT OF CONTROL is the fourth instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult FULL THROTTLE erotic, romance series focusing on Formula 1 drivers. This is driver Oliver Rossi, and Sofia Navarro’s story line. OUT OF CONTROL can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is a continuing premise throughout. Sofia is the sister of Formula 1 driver Cruz Navarro ON THE EDGE #2.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sofia and Oliver) OUT OF CONTROL follows the forbidden relationship between our story line couple. Oliver Rossi is the embattled new member of the Gravitas F1 team, a driver with a reputation as difficult and dangerous but a man whose entire life he has struggled to prove he is worthy. Having fallen for his teammate’s sister Sofia Navarro, Oliver finds himself Sofia’s dirty little secret, hidden behind the forbidden barrier, not worthy of a woman above his reputation, but a woman whose back and forth threatens Oliver’s already fragile ego. What ensues is the building but tempestuous relationship between Oliver and Sofia, and the potential fall-out as Sofia battles between head and heart, as her own personal life conflicts with the family’s path.

The world building follows several direction including Sofia’s need to forge a path on her own. As an artist, Sofia’s work is rejected by the family, a family who has placed all of their hopes of the prodigal son, leaving a disheartened and heart broken Sofia behind. Meanwhile, Oliver’s ongoing struggles with acceptance are exacerbated by Sofia’s need to keep their relationship a secret, forcing Oliver to walk away with another bruised ego.

The relationship between Oliver and Sofia is a forbidden romance. Oliver Rossi is persona non grata in the world of Formula 1, and even his own teammates struggle to accept our hero as one of their own. Oliver wants to be number one but all eyes are on Sofia’s brother Cruz, pushing Oliver to number two in more ways than one. Falling for Sofia meant betraying his teammates demands but Oliver never expected to fall in love with someone who is struggling for her own acceptance. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but I am not a fan of use of a certain four-letter word, although only used once, more for shock than anything else.

Once again, we are reintroduced to the previous story line couples including Cruz and Maddix, Lachlan and Blair, Spencer Riggs, as well as team owner Atlas Stavros, Oliver’s parents, and Sofia’s controlling grandfather aka el patriarca.

OUT OF CONTROL is a story of family and secrets, power and control, acceptance and love. The premise is thought provoking and animated; the romance is real; the characters are stubborn and determined.

What ensues so the rebuilding relationship between Malcolm and Frankie, and the fall-out as the Malcolm must face the truth about the how and why.

The world building is dark and gritty. The trauma and abuse endured by our story line couple is recounted in graphic detail. As the Devil’s Handmaidens MC must come to terms with their own past traumas, our couple must face down the men who tried to destroy their lives.

The relationship between Malcolm and Frankie is one of second chances but a relationship strained by the emotional and physical abuse by someone they knew. As Malcolm struggles to move on from the past, Frankie and her ‘sisters’ will take down those who hurt so many. There are no $ex scenes between our story couple.

There is another large ensemble cast of colorful and determined secondary and supporting characters including several of Frankie’s sisters in the Devil’s Handmaidens MC-Glory , Tax, Vixen, Tink, Raven, their significant others, as well as the introduction of Frankie’s parents.

WILDCAT is a story of betrayal, racism, violence and hate. The premise is dramatic, dark, haunting, twisted and powerful; the characters are broken yet struggling to heal.

->Heed the trigger warnings-they are numerous, graphic, detailed and raw-WILDCAT is NOT a story for everyone.

Josie: Nice turnaround.

I smile stupidly against the dark window, so no one can see how I look right now. The glass is cool, but I’m warm everywhere. I don’t want to talk about me with Josie. Not with my teammates around. And honestly, not that much in general. I want to talk about her.  

Wesley: It was. But what are you up to? Also, it’s late. Go to bed.

Josie: That’s where I am.

Josie: Here’s your proof of bed.

She sends a picture of the lower half of the bed. Her legs are clearly under the covers. A paperback sits on the white cover. Zooming in, I read the title. Someone Else’s Ring.

Wesley: New book. Does this mean you finished the thriller? The Woman In The Hotel?

Josie: I did and the thrill was thrilling.

Atticus believes he failed his wife, and in this, begins to pulls away as he searches for the person (s) responsible including the possibility of someone he knows. As Atticus, Gwen and Micah begins a deep dive into several potential suspects, Atticus’ past finds a way to prove no one is safe is one is determined enough to get through.

The world building focuses on the hunt for a gunman; the search for the person responsible; embattled family morals and dysfunctional family dynamics, as well as Gwen and Atticus struggle to keep their marriage healthy and well.

The relationship between Atticus and Gwen is highly sexual and provocative but in the wake of the attempt on Gwen’s life, Atticus begins to pull away, fearing he has failed to protect the woman he loves. Gwen is determined to prove she is a survivor, and sets out to take back what was once hers to control. The $ex scenes are erotic and passionate.

Once again, we are reintroduced to Gwen’s sister Morgan, Atticus’ brother Micah, their father Lucian, as well as Atticus’ friend and driver Gavin, and Gwen’s best friend Lance who is struggling with his attraction to forbidden fruit. Mogan’s story line is next.

MERGER is a story of obsession, betrayal and madness, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is edgy, intriguing and impassioned; the romance is spicy, provocative and intense; the characters are determined, desperate,and animated.

Maeve has a stalker, a former boyfriend who has targeted our story line heroine in the past,but someone else is determined to destroy our story line couple, one betrayal at a time. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Tanner and Maeve, and the potential fall-out as another possible stalker has taken aim at our story line heroine.

The world building focuses on family, friendships, betrayal and moving forward. Maeve continues to struggle with the demons from her past but the demons have returned under the guise of someone else. In an effort to keep their relationship a secret, and allow Tanner to protect our story line heroine, Maeve and Tanner devise an explanation about a fake relationship to avoid further complications from family and friends.

The relationship between Maeve and Tanner is a friends to lovers, fake relationship. Tanner plays on the same team as Maeve’s father, and everyone is aware of what happened in the past. Maeve is off limits but Tanner is desperate to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love. Someone else is determined to break our story line heroine, taking aim when she is most vulnerable and alone. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate.

REVIEW:Bristol by Nicole Sulli is a MC, darker romance, and a first time read for me. This book has trauma and SA so check the trigger warnings readers. That being said, this fast pace, spicy romance had me jonesings for the next page faster and faster. 🏍

Bristol is broken beyond repair, or so she thinks. After being held captive for years, forced to do horrible things, caged, and tortured, when she is finally freed, she doesn’t know what to feel. But she knows what she wants. I give this author major props for an awesome FMC, even with all the hell Bristol has been put through, she is strong and doesn’t let others make her feel weak.

Revenge.

Sebastian is both her knight in shining armor and assassin at the same time. He knows why she wants her revenge, what she is going to do, and is all on board to help her do it. Heck he even helps her get away with it. What gets me with the plot to the story is that there is such build up for Bristol to get her revenge, but when it finally happens, it’s a bit rushed. The ending happens so quickly, it feels very rushed, and even more so, it feels unfinished. There needed to be something else after that, an epilogue, another chapter, something to show that Bristol and Sebastian riding off into the sunset.

The book is pretty dark in parts, and the spicy bits are 🔥 to read. Overall I would read more by the author and did like the book.

REVIEW: CITY OF SECRETS is the fourth instalment in PJ Tracy’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE MARGARET NOLAN mystery, crime thriller focusing on Detective Margaret Nolan and the investigators of the LAPD. CITY OF SECRETS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstories and cohesion.

Told from numerous omniscient third person perspectives CITY OF SECRETS follows as the LAPD begins an investigation into the murder of a billionaire businessman and owner of Peppy Pets just hours before the sale of his struggling corporation. In what appears to be a car-jacking gone wrong, Nolan and her team quickly discover that all is not as it appears to be. When the dead man’s former business partner and wife are kidnapped, the possibility of a ransom has yet to be revealed, someone else is pulling the strings in a game of winner take all.

We are introduced to former co-owner of Peppy Pets Dr. Rome Bechtold and his estranged wife Nicole, as well as company CFO Cynthia Jackson. The requisite evil has many faces.
