About the Author pink

Kim Karr

I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I’ve always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, I wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. I went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and full-time embracing one of my biggest passions—writing.

I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outings use to be taking my kids to the bookstore or the library. Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. And although I don’t need to go to the actual store anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented—a Kindle, I still do. There’s nothing like a paperback. So now my four year old and I make dates out of going to the bookstore–it’s time I love and cherish.

I like to believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I love to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart.

THE COLORS OF BLUE by Lance McCulloch

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 11, 2013

The Colors of Blue is an intelligent and compelling mainstream romance whose characters peel away complex layers of deceit, grief, loss and discovery during a riveting journey that at last binds hearts together and renews the promise of true love.

From the novel’s first page, Sara Field emerges as a woman of unique gifts whose soul resonates to a kaleidoscope of colors—a sixth sense that infuses her world with an understanding beyond the apparent. Yet somehow the colors fade in the glare of urban life and heartbreaking betrayal, and her struggle to retrieve those vibrant hues borders on the unbearable. Can she ever regain the innocence and wonder of that magical young womanhood? Perhaps—when she finds the spectacular beauty of the San Juan Mountains and the Tres Piedras River.
.
Half a country away, Rick Wheeler mourns the death of his extraordinary wife and feels himself crumbling under the burden of despair even as he builds a financial dynasty. Will nothing lift the gloom, relieve the cruel devastation of his loss and renew his heart? Ah, yes, there is one thing—fly-fishing on the Tres Piedras River. Time here is satisfying and soul-renewing. But he is still alone.

The rest, woven into a tapestry of adventure, intrigue, revelation, and even serendipity, invites each reader to participate in a life-affirming search for the colors and connections of love and the depth of meaning they give to the human spirit.

•••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE COLORS OF BLUE by Lance McCulloch is a contemporary storyline of romance and love. The focus of the story is on ranch hand Rick Wheeler and primary school teacher Sara Field-the woman who will open Rick’s heart and mind to second chances and finding love.

The premise of the storyline is the building relationship between Rick and Sara but, also the rebuilding of trust. Rick and Sara have both suffered heartbreaking and painful losses but none more so than Rick. At a weeklong getaway prior to Sara’s sister’s wedding, Rick and Sara will meet for the first time opening their eyes and their hearts to the possibility of a future but not before betrayal and misunderstandings will pull them apart.

THE COLORS OF BLUE is a storyline with a slight paranormal edge. The writing is as calming as it is beautiful with descriptive narration and scenery. Lance McCulloch weaves a wonderful tale that is romantic in its presentation; graceful in its approach; passionate in its maturity and imagination.

The storyline is told through present day, memory flashbacks and dreams. The reader is introduced to a cast of secondary characters that will make you fall in love with their perceptive understanding about two people meant for one another. Sara and Rick are drawn to one another such that the reader will be drawn into the storyline that is emotionally seductive. There is no foul language and no sexual situations but the sexual tension between Sara and Rick is palpable.

Lance McCulloch has written a captivating and breathtaking storyline where two people will find love. The Colors of Blue is a story of pure romance; of developing friendships; and learning to let go. If you are looking for a story with romance, seduction and a happily ever after THE COLORS OF BLUE is an incredible journey that you don’t want to miss.

Interview-Blue

TRC: Hi Lance and welcome to The Reading Café.

We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Lance: Goodreads / Website / Facebook /

Lance McCullochLance: I’m a 49 years old and only recently become a full-time author. Me, my wife Jennifer and three daughters all call Boulder, Colorado home. I have a degree from the University of Colorado in Chemical Engineering and spent the last ten years of my life starting and running a gear and technology company. I love the outdoors and fly-fishing has been my go-to Zen for many years.

TRC: What or who influenced your foray into writing?

Lance: Around 2003 I started a technology company in Boulder, Colorado. Several years later the company had arrived at a unique GPS technology with military applications. In 2007, a large public company approached my six-person company exploring a relationship to distribute our products. I was excited and believed that we had hit the jackpot. Unbeknownst to me, this company had an agenda that was outside of the terms of the distribution contract we signed. The terms of that agreement made them the exclusive distributor of our product and when they missed a major US Army contract, they simply stepped away.

Their actions set forth a sequence of events including the loss of my company and a lawsuit against the large company. I loved my employees and losing them and my company were some very darkest times in my life. I needed something positive. One day I closed the door of my office and simply began to write. My book, The Colors of Blue, was the best and most positive thing to come out of those hard times, although, when a Dallas, Texas jury convicted the company of fraud in 2013, it was not bad either.

The Colors of BlueTRC: THE COLORS OF BLUE is your first published novel (November 2013). Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Lance: The Colors of Blue is a contemporary story of love, loss, and recovery. It is a story of the human spirit told through the eyes and experiences of the two main Characters, Sarah Field and Rick Wheeler.

Sarah was born with a special gift, a sixth sense that allows her to see colors that have great meaning. During a week in the Colorado Rockies with her sister and a group of friends, Sarah meets Rick Wheeler, at first glance a river guide with a tragic past. Here, as she sorts through the deceit by her fiancé, her colors begin to appear again. Then arrives the odd colors of blue, ones she has never encountered before. But Sarah struggles with these new colors, continually overshadowed by the presence of her cheating fiancé, like herself a guest at the Colorado ranch.

TRC: What do you tell the critics/potential new readers as it pertains to the male perspective when writing romance novels?

Lance: Romance is nothing more than a delightful process to arrive at the most basic necessity of any human. That necessity is love. I set out to write a story of loss and discovery of this most basic need. If my readers feel or see it as a romance, so be it; my writing comes from the perspective of a man who felt the loss of a mother early in life, who felt the sudden and tragic loss of a father in a plane crash, and the vulnerability of a man with unmatched love for a beautiful wife and three daughters.

TRC: Did you learn anything about yourself when writing the book?

Lance: I’ve spent half of my life being an engineer and business owner as a practical means of supporting my family. What I’ve discovered is that writing provides an internal joy beyond what I ever found in the ‘practical’ days of my life. I think I will keep writing because life is too short. ☺ I’d also like to go looking for sunken treasure in the Caribbean, but I’m pretty sure that pictures of my sun-drenched body in speedo would sink that adventure.

TRC: Is THE COLORS OF BLUE a stand alone novel or do you have plans for a series?

Lance: Sarah and Rick’s story begins at the end of The Colors of Blue. It must continue and I know their next journey. However, I am compelled by another problem in the Colorado Rockies that is begging to be sorted-out first!

TRC: Are any of the characters based in reality or a culmination of many different variables?

Lance: When I was in my 20’s I lost my mother to cancer. My parents always had a great relationship and I watched as my father contended with this loss. Although I did not set out with the intention of writing my father’s story, I’ve realized that I have spent many hours fly-fishing and sorting through how he dealt with losing his wife. That event was certainly a core influence on my story.

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (research, logistics, background, etc) did you encounter writing this particular story and series?

Lance: I believe there are a hundred ways to tell the same story. However, there is a real art to keeping an audience involved and turning pages. My background is Chemical Engineering, about as close to Creative Writing as oil is to water. I worked the hardest on structuring the story with strategic and creative ways to keep the audience involved.

TRC: If you could virtually cast the leading characters in this storyline, which models or actors best represents your ideal image?

Lance: Sarah would be Keira Knightley with dark, curly hair. I will not comment on Rick for fear of damaging a late night image built by the female reader. I mean, would you pick up the book if I told you Rick looked like Will Ferrell? Don’t worry, he does not!

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Lance: As an author, I find myself creating primary events and experiences for my characters while knowing how they will react and respond to each. The readers get to know my characters through these primary events but also the small scenes I create that may seem unimportant but work to round out the character. In an interesting way, I create the primary events and the characters responses and then the characters tell me how they will respond in the smaller scenes. This is a good question. It’s allowed me to arrive at the conclusion that my characters are smarter than I am. ☺

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

Lance: I believe it goes a long way to build a story that any reader can see, feel, smell, and touch. When each of us walk through an airport we each take-in the scene and all that fills it. If characters in a book see, feel, hear, and smell things that the reader would experience in the same way, they become real; they become believable. I would guess the most common mistake is to create characters that are too perfect, that sense things the average reader would miss.

TRC: Writer’s Block is a very real phenomenon. How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of writer’s block?

Lance: Studying engineering in college, I found that if I worked hard on a problem yet could not solve it, it was best to simply leave it alone for some period of time. That did not mean that I was not working on it, only that it was my subconscious rather than the conscious part of my brain that was doing the work. Commonly, this is called ‘sleeping on it.’ However, often it takes more than a single night. Thus, I try to identify the problem I face in the story, whether it is a sequence of events, the reality of a scene, dialog, or something else and then consider all of the options to solve the problem. I will then work on another section of the book and wait until the problem solves itself. If you see my iPhone, it’s full of message to myself when I’m out shopping, having coffee, or a glass of wine and suddenly the solution arrives. Now that I think about it, it often occurs when I’m drinking wine; maybe we are on to something here? ☺

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Lance: I do not find myself bouncing specific ideas but I will give my wife ‘raw’ chapters. She is the one for me. I’ll watch out of the corner of my eye as she reads to see if I’ve created the right reaction in her. By now, I know most of her facial expressions.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Lance: My next story is set in the small town of Silverton, Colorado. The title is ‘The Funny Little Corners of Love.’ Dan receives a letter from his estranged, alcoholic brother. In it, his brother tells him that he has found their missing father and that he should return to Colorado as quickly as possible. From here, we are off and running to reunite brothers in a mystery with recognizable, human themes.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Lance: I would just like to thank The Reading Café for this interview and everyone who has taken time read. Thanks ☺

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 28, 2014

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

_______________

From the author

It is such a gorgeous, distinctive cover, melding together unique paranormal aspect of the world and the sizzle of the relationship between Mad Rogan and Nevada. It’s rare when the cover captures a scene from the book exactly the way the author had imagined it. You learn to resign yourself to it. Covers aren’t meant to be a literal representation of the narrative, but BURN FOR ME is. It actually shows a pivotal scene, especially when combined with the aerial view splashback. If you read the book, you’ll know exactly what I mean. When I got the cover file, I sent it to a friend. She emailed back in minutes. The email said, “Who did you sacrifice to Cover Gods to get this?”

-Ilona Andrews on her reaction to the cover for BURN FOR ME

From the editor

BURN FOR ME is a slight departure from Ilona Andrews’ other bestselling urban fantasy series. There’s still the trademark snappy dialogue/narrative and action-packed scenes, but there’s a stronger romance thread here that we wanted to get across right away with this cover. Our hero Rogan is not just hot and sexy, but he’s powerful. Like kill-you-with-a-stare powerful. And Nevada is just as strong, only she doesn’t realize her full potential yet. So I wanted to show off our couple, have that intimacy between them and not lose any kickass-ness (I know, not a real word, sorry). The background with the exploding buildings around them…the idea was Ilona’s and the execution is just exquisite.

Until an unforgettable night with tall, dark and tortured Mac Draper gives her a glimpse of what true happiness feels like.

Lily can’t help but melt a little under the sizzling heat of Mac’s touch. But Mac’s scars run deep, and Lily’s afraid she may be falling for the one man who can never return her feelings…

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE DAY HE KISSED HER is the third instalment in Juliana Stone’s adult, contemporary, erotic Bad Boys of Crystal Lake series focusing on a tight knit group of family and friends-Jake & Jesse Edwards, Cain Black and MacKenzie Draper. This is MacKenzie and Lily’s storyline. Keeping everyone at arm’s length, Mac has finally met a woman he can love, but the past is ugly and Mac fears that he may be more like his father than he ever thought. Lily is Jake Edwards best friend and she has been welcomed into the family as one of their own.

The storyline follows Mac and Lily who had previously met several months earlier. After a night of drunken sex, each go their separate ways only to meet again, at the Edward’s Memorial Day celebration. Believing she was nothing more than a one-night stand, Lily desperately attempts to hide but Mac remembers everything about Lily and that special night. Hoping for a do-over, Mac pursues Lily until they become lovers-but nothing more. Mac doesn’t do relationships or love and, he is more than willing to let Lily know exactly where he stands.

The relationship between Mac and Lily rekindles an attraction to one another that neither has experience before. But Mac’s family history has shrouded his heart and his soul in a dark and dangerous curtain where he hides a multitude of emotional and physical scars that have left him incapable of love. He believes he is not worthy and when the past begins to resurface in the next generation of family, Mac begins to pulls away from the only woman he has ever loved.

THE DAY HE KISSED HER is a storyline that focuses on a family history of abuse and neglect: a family whereby the parents enable one another’s sins and where the children are left unprotected from the monster who is supposed to love and protect. This is a story where history begins to repeat itself and where one man refuses to give up on the people that he loves. But sometimes, in the end, you have to walk away when the person who was supposed to protect you, looks the other way, and does nothing to save themselves.

Juliana Stone pulls the reader into an intense storyline of heartbreak and betrayal; love and letting go; acceptance and moving on. Julian writes a story that is emotional and heartbreaking; a story that may be all too familiar to many readers; but a story that ends with a HEA.

excerpt

Mackenzie Draper woke up with a throbbing head, a dry mouth, and an ache in his neck that hurt like hell.
Vague memories of the Coach House, his buddies Cain and Jake, some loud, crazy band, and a bottle of tequila floated in his mind.
Or maybe it was two bottles of tequila.
Not that it mattered. Mac was sporting the worst hangover ever, and even though it had nothing to do with Crystal Lake—-and everything to do with his weakness for tequila—-his first thought was that he shouldn’t have come home.
Things never went well when he came back to Crystal Lake, and after all this time—-and with his bastard father in jail—-it was still hard.
With a groan, Mac rolled out of bed and wondered why the hell he did it.
It was late morning, Friday of the Memorial Day long weekend, and Mac had arrived home the night before, hence the catching up with his buddies and the endless shots of tequila.
Damn. He knew better. Tequila always knocked him on his ass.
His nose wrinkled. He smelled like a brewery and was still in his clothes from the night before—-he was pretty damn sure he looked like crap. Mac stumbled down the hall, wincing and cursing when he stubbed his toe on an uneven floorboard.
He ran fingers over the two–day–old stubble on his chin, rolled his shoulders, and groaned. The muscles were tight, but then again, everything was tight and sore.
With a scowl, he glanced back toward his room. Damn mattress. He was used to sleeping on the king–sized dream at his place in New York City, not the IKEA crap from his teen years.
“Shit,” he murmured, wincing again as his neck creaked. There was a time when the floor between the Edwards twins’ beds had been good enough for him. Hell, he’d spent many a night sleeping there when things got out of hand at home.
God, is this what it felt like to be old?
The family homestead was a modest bungalow with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a small dining room, and a TV room finishing off the main floor. The place hadn’t seen a fresh coat of paint in years, and the wallpaper in the hall was curling in the corners. The roof needed done and if the windows weren’t replaced soon, the frames would rot.
It was a mess, and he doubted the additional three bedrooms in the basement or the small recreational room was faring any better.
When he was a kid, he spent most of his time down there—-anything to avoid his father, or rather, his father’s fists. Back then, the house had seemed so damn small—-so damn suffocating—-it was hard to believe that anything could grow or thrive inside the four walls
that made up the Draper residence. No wonder he escaped as much as he could. Hanging with the Edwards twins and
Cain Black had been his salvation. He glanced around the house, feeling as tired as it looked. With only his mother puttering about, the place seemed empty and quiet. Too quiet.
Mac needed noise, the hustle and bustle of the city, the sounds of people, music, and cabs.
He needed noise to shut out the quiet moments, because when it was quiet, it was way too easy to think and remember. And Mac didn’t want to remember.
He wasn’t alone in that sentiment. His five siblings were gone. They’d all left as soon as they could, and other than his younger sister, Becca, he was the only one who came home to visit. The long distance thing seemed to work for everyone else.
Mac paused and leaned against the door frame that led to the kitchen, watching his mother roll out dough. She wore simple clothes—-a white cotton blouse, with faded blue and red roses, tucked into plain white shorts that fell exactly one inch above the knee. The colors had faded, but they were clean and pressed, with no creases.
Her long hair, as blond as Mac’s and showing no sign of gray, was knotted loosely at her nape. She was petite—-trim—-and from this angle, she looked exactly like the mother he remembered from his youth. It wasn’t until she glanced up and he caught sight of the sadness in her eyes, the wrinkles of worry etched into her brow, that he saw her age.
Age and heartache that had been put there by his father.
Just thinking of Ben Draper made Mac’s gut clench, and it took some effort for him to ease out of the anger that ate at him. He breathed in and out, nice and easylike, and managed a half–assed smile for his mother.
She smiled back, but it quickly faded when her eyes narrowed and she pursed her lips. She continued to roll her dough.
“Late night, Mackenzie?” There was disapproval in her voice and, dammit, even after all this time—-he was thirty–five for Christ’s sake—-he felt like that kid who’d just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Her husband was a mean drunk, and he got that she didn’t like Mac overindulging, but still…it was kind of ironic that she would call him out for having a bit too much tequila when she never said a word to Ben.
Mind you, if she did, she’d see the back of Ben’s hand, but there must have been a point in their relationship when she could have stopped him.
Heat swirled in his gut as a bunch of memories ran through him and none of them were good. Jesus, he needed to shut this shit down right now. There was no point in
rehashing the past. He shoved it all aside and crossed to the fridge, grabbing a carton of juice.
“Is that for the Edwardses’?” he asked.
He poured himself a large glass and turned around to lean against the kitchen counter, his gaze on his mother as she methodically kneaded the dough.
“Yes. I’m making a raspberry pie for you to take when you go.”
He waited a few seconds. He’d spent every Friday before Memorial Day at the Edwardses’ for their annual friends and family barbecue. He always asked his mother to join him.
“So, you’re not coming with me.” It was a statement, because he already knew the answer.
She continued kneading the dough, her movements slow and precise. “No, honey. I’ve got more baking to do for the church bazaar, and I promised Mrs. Linden that I’d help her clean her house.” She glanced up, though her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. “She’s getting on and needs an extra set of hands. I’ve been helping her out ever since Maggie left town.”
Mackenzie knew better than to press the issue. His mother wouldn’t come.
Once, long before he was born, Lila McCann had run in the same social circles as the Edwardses. In fact, she’d dated Steven Edwards briefly…then Ben Draper had come into the picture and Lila’s life took a turn.
A wrong turn. A wrong fucking U–turn away from anything good that she’d ever had.
Her parents had stood by her—-even when she’d become pregnant with Mac’s older brother, Benjamin Jr.—-and had footed the bill for an extravagant wedding. His grandparents had died in a car accident about a month before Benjamin was born, and Mac had never met them.
His great–grandmother, however, was a bright light in an otherwise bleak childhood. It was only because of Grams that any of the kids went to college, and it was only because of Grams that the roof over their head stayed in their hands and not the bank’s. His great–grandmother was nearing her ninetieth year and still right as rain.
He didn’t want to consider what would have happened to the Draper kids if not for her.

SNAP White Nights

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 17, 2014

SNAP: White Nights, the seventh book in The Kandesky Vampire Chronicles, is now out!

White Nights continues the love story of Maxie, a regular, and Jean-Louis, a five hundred year old Hungarian vampire. And it begins the story of Nik, a Kandesky vampire and Jazz, a regular who’s climbing the ladder of success at SNAP, the world’s largest and richest celebrity gossip empire.

Set in Kiev, Ukraine and St. Petersburg, Russia, the lovers confront gangsters, rival vampires and international tensions as Kiev faces uprisings and the deposing of the Ukrainian president.

I love writing the Kandesky Chronicles. I’m half in love with Jean-Louis. Their world is so filled with challenge, wealth, fear, political plots and danger that falling in love is one more hurdle to overcome.

Because of its setting, White Nights has contemporary events woven into the plot. Writing as current events are changing the setting for the characters was a challenge for me, as the author. I’d watch the news for the latest happening in Kiev, then go back and rewrite Maxie’s story to reflect the chaos.

Just as in the real world, there’s no resolution to the Ukraine/Russia conflict. And the intimate conflicts between the lovers? This is playing out, too.

Coming later this spring is Book Eight, SNAP: All That Jazz.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: The next SNAP is White Nights, and oh what nights they are! Ms. Drier has done it again, she taken us back to the world of the Kandesky vampires, wealth, fashion, travel, incredible passion and romance; and as always has some intrigue and danger mixed in.
In White Nights you can expect more of the magnificently sexy Jean-Louis and Maxie; but wait..there’s a new coupling on the rise! The ever efficient and bubbly Jazz meets the sleek and golden Nik…ahhh! It’s instant ultra-attraction for them both.

There are wonderful parties, exotic places and people. The road is never quite smooth, with great wealth and power come enemies, and those they love are often the easier targets for those enemies. Jazz and Nik have a few bumps as she learns the world of the Kandeskys. Jazz has worked for SNAP and is very good at her job, but the incredible power of this family as well as the wealth is a real eye opener for her.

She soon learns it’s not all fun and games, with all the good comes probably an equal and sometimes a little unequal bad. Can she handle it? Will Nik’s love be able to overcome her fear? Oh you’ve got to read this!

Just when Maxie thought her brutal attackers were all gone, the one who was missing is back! Vengeance and power is his game and Maxie and Jazz are his targets. An enemy of both Jean-Louis and Nik, Jules is the monster who …oops…almost did too many spoilers! Well, if you’ve read the others you know who he is, if you haven’t – what the heck is stopping you?

This is great paranormal romance ladies. Vampires, were-wolves, demons, and so much more stuff we girls love to play with! (Chuckling)

Personally, I can’t wait for the next installment of this wonderful series; I’m really looking forward to it!

Grab a glass of your favorite beverage, (I found a new local winery – yummm) kickback and dive into this wonderful story! Enjoy everyone, I did!

His eyes ran the length of her, and his jaw tightened. “It’s time to go home, Keel.”
“I agree.”
His eyes nearly disintegrated her they were so hot and intense. “Then tell Mr. Clean to get back in here so I can get these cuffs off, and we can get the hell out of here.”
It was the first time she’d noticed that his hands were behind his back. Restrained. Something stirred inside of her at the thought, but she pushed it away. No. She hadn’t come here to work out her fantasies about Sawyer Black WITH Sawyer Black.
“I’ll go and get him, but only with the understanding that you’re walking out of here and heading home. Alone.”
His eyes narrowed and his lip curled. “Keely, I’ve had enough of this horseshit. You’re going home and there’s nothing else to say about it.”
Reasoning with Sawyer Black had always been a pointless pursuit. There was no one more stubborn or pig headed.
“How old do you think I am?” she asked him.
“Call the asshole back, Keel.”
“How old, Sawyer?” she pressed. Tossing off her embarrassment, she walked toward him, knowing how the movement accentuated her body in the dress she had on.
His gaze raked her before he tore it away and cursed. “I don’t fucking know.”
“Twenty-one.”
“I don’t care. Shit, I don’t care if you’re forty-fucking-five. You don’t belong here. You belong at home, in your room, studying and staying out of trouble.”

Desire leads to seduction, but it comes at a price. Because someone wants her dead, and if Brian’s not careful, his obsession for a woman he never should have touched could get them both killed.

excerpt

“Annie!” I squealed, running and scooping her up before she
had the chance to escape. I rained kisses all over her face. She was clearly
confused, but she seemed to like it. The evidence? She dropped her doll and
squeezed my neck.
Erica stared at me through narrowed eyes. “No one, including
me, likes my children that much. What is going on?”
Annie giggled on cue, like she understood her mother’s
words. I laughed outright.
“Your momma’s silly, isn’t she? Isn’t she?” I asked, poking
Annie’s sides.
“Oh my God, who are you?” Erica demanded. “Where’s my BFF
who promised me she’d never have children so I could live vicariously through
her? I swear to God if you’re pregnant…”
“Calm down,” I said over the top of Annie’s head. She
twisted in my arms signaling she was over my show of affection. I placed her on
the floor beside her discarded doll. “How would I even be pregnant?”
“Sex. It’s called sex,” Erica replied. She finished folding
the last of Little Noah’s shirts, then tossed it in the laundry basket.
“Don’t say s-e-x in front of the baby!” I chided.
“B, she doesn’t know what sex is.”
“She’ll repeat it.”
“Who cares?”
“Oh, so you want to be the mother with the kid who knows the
bad words?” I asked.
“Bad word?” Erica asked, laughing.
“You know what I mean,” I said. “You want to be the mother
who all the other mothers gossip about? Like about how bad your parenting
skills are?”
Erica placed her hand on her hip. “Yeah, I do. Fuck ‘em.
Fuck all those mothers. Fuck their playdates and mommy groups and fucking
Melissa and Doug puzzles. Fuck their running strollers and baby couture and
breastfeeding advice. Fuck their—”
“ERICA!”
“What?”
I looked down at the floor, but Annie was gone. She’d walked away
somewhere, no doubt the kitchen since that seemed to be her favorite place to
play.

Night Prowler Series 1-5

About the Author Black and Green

JT Geissinger PIcJ.T. Geissinger’s debut novel, Shadow’s Edge, was published in 2012 and was a #1 Amazon US and UK bestseller in fantasy romance and romance series. She has been nominated for the prestigious RITA® award from the Romance Writers of America for best paranormal romance for her second book in the Night Prowler series, Edge of Oblivion.

A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed “book addict,” she didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.

Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.

Then, during a trip to Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”

Marlene sold the manuscript to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists within weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge was book one of the Night Prowler novels. Book two, Edge of Oblivion, was published in October 2012 and will be followed by Rapture’s Edge in June 2013, and Edge of Darkness in fall 2013. There are six books total planned for the series.
