ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 23, 2021

Evil is coming.

A dark malevolence the likes of which this world has never seen, and it comes straight from the depths of Hell. Darkness meant to destroy. A prophecy I am fated to fulfill but will most likely not survive.

Through it all, Carrick Byrne has stood strong by my side. Something has deeply changed between me and the man I once despised, and all it took was a kiss of provocation for both of us to feel it. I know deep in my soul we’re being guided by destiny, but I don’t know if I can trust it. Carrick is holding something back, and I fear the consequences could be deadly once his truth is revealed.

We’re not ready, but calamity waits for no woman. I have discovered a power within myself I must learn to master. A new connection in the Underworld has been revealed to me, one that I hope is friend but is just as likely foe. We are in a race against time as we try to figure out how to stop the end of the world from occurring. The battle is coming, and I can only hope we’re prepared for what happens next.

REVIEW:THE EVOLUTION OF FAE AND GODS is the third instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult CHRONICLES OF THE STONE VEIL paranormal/urban fantasy series focusing on twenty-eight year old Finley Porter, and Carrick Byrne. THE EVOLUTION OF FAE AND GODS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES.

SOME BACKGROUND: All of her life Finley Porter has been treated for hallucinations but days before her twenty-eighth birthday Finley is pulled into a world of the Light and Dark Fae by a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. An end of the world prophecy declares our heroine the savior, and in this Finley struggles with her fated destiny. As the gods watch the prophecy play out, some take it upon themselves to interfere where they do not belong.

Told from first person perspective (Finley) and third person (Carrick Byrne) THE EVOLUTION OF FAE AND GODS picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two wherein Finley’s life continues to implode. With her business in ruins, and the person responsible has set their sights on ruling the world, Finley, along with Carrick Byrne must work together in preparation to take down the Dark Fae determined to destroy them all. When Carrick goes in search of answers and information, Finley, and her friends, work behind the scenes scouring the ancient tomes for some hint of things to come. As Finley’s power continue to grow, her ability to connect with the Underworld reveals the possibility of someone once lost, found again.

THE EVOLUTION OF FAE AND GODS is a fast paced, intricately detailed and revealing story line. We learn about the connection between Carrick and Finley, and Carrick’s decision to walk away; some history of the Fae, changelings, angels and daemons, as well as The Fallen. Finley Porter continues to be a little TSTL (too stupid to live) in that she refuses to remain in the relative safety of Carrick’s home, a home where angels, demi-gods and daemons are at her service. Sawyer Bennett pulls the reader into an intricate and twisted story line about a fight for power and control; a tale of manipulation and magic, tragedy and loss. The premise is strong and haunting; the characters are animated and powerful; the sexual chemistry is sizzling and hot; the romance is seductive and passionate. THE EVOLUTION OF FAE AND GODS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

REVIEW:The Steel Family Saga rides again. Helen Hardt has given us yet another amazing story in the Steel family series, one that is jaw dropping and encompassing. Steel Brothers Saga, book 17 has arrived and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into!

What an emotional ride! Ashley White is in love with Dale Steel. Fact. Nothing will change it, he has become part of her soul. Dale, the wonderfully stupid man thinks he is too broken and too damaged to have Ashley in his life. He believes he isn’t worth loving, so like a big stupid man, he pushes Ashley away. Dale is tortured and damaged, the pain he feels from his past is holding him back from a future he desperately wants.

I can’t say it enough, Helen Hardt’s ability to write such strong emotions from her characters is so rare and rich that there will never be a time I wouldn’t read her books. Throughout Dale’s struggles with his past, the unsure future with Ashley and then the cliffhanger at the end. HH writes it in a way that you “the reader” feel as if you are standing right there with them, experiencing it all.

Way to go! Five stars read, and what a journey, once I finish one book, I always can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

REVIEW:DARE TO TEASE is instalment 4.5 in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult DARE NATION erotic, romance series focusing on the Dare/Prescott family- a spin off from the author’s DARE TO LOVE series. This is physician Dr. Hudson Northfield, and sports agent Brianne Prescott’s story line. DARE TO TEASE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. You do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current timeline but like the original series, there is a back story involving the Dare family, and by extension, the Prescott family as well.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Brianne and Hudson) DARE TO TEASE follows the building romance and relationship between physician Dr. Hudson Northfield, and sports agent Brianne Prescott. Hudson Northfield is one of the team physicians with the Miami Thunder, the team owned and operated by the large Dare/Prescott family. Having recently served alongside Braden Prescott in Doctors Without Borders, Hudson’s return to America comes with demands from his family, and the attraction to Braden’s twin sister Brianne Prescott. With the approach of his cousin’s wedding in New York, Hudson invites Brianne to spend the weekend, but more importantly as a buffer between Hudson and his immediate family. Needing something from his father, Hudson is stunned with the prevailing conditions, conditions he refuses to place upon the woman with whom he is falling in love. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Hudson and Brianne, and the fall-out as Hudson’s secret is about to be revealed.

The relationship between Brianne and Hudson is a best friend’s sister relationship; a friends to lovers romance in which Hudson and Brianne both know what they want but Brianne’s well meaning family, and Hudson’s cold and distant father begin to build barriers between our leading couple. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Brianne’s siblings: Austin and Quinn, Jaxon and Macy, Braden and Willow, Damon and Evie; Hudson’s parents Martin and Lucille Northfield; Miami Thunder owner Ian Dare.

DARE TO TEASE is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of secrets and lies, revelations and acceptance. The premise is captivating; the romance is seduction; the characters are strong-willed, dynamic and charismatic.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
Their faces were close together as they spoke, creating a bubble of intimacy and making it easier to be honest. “About how much I admire you. How you could be on the money train with your family in New York, but instead you’re all about giving back. I like that about you.” She studied his expression and the look in his eyes. “What’s wrong? Something’s bothering you.”
“You’ve come to read me well in a very short time,” he said on a low chuckle. “I do have an issue to deal with while I’m home.”
She reached out and clasped their hands together. Her palms felt better now that it had been a few days since she’d fallen, and the bandages made it easier to do things. Like hold hands. “I’m a good listener … if you want to unload your problems.”
He hesitated, obviously weighing his words. “You know the plans for the clinic Braden mentioned the day he walked in on us?”
She nodded. In the rush of her sudden trip, buying a dress, packing, and making sure her clients were covered by another PR person if she wasn’t reachable, she’d forgotten to ask either man about it since.
“Braden and I want to renovate and remodel the clinic into a state-of-the-art place where people who don’t have access to insurance or good care can still come in and get treated. As it stands now, the equipment is old, the building run-down, and it’s hard to entice professionals to come work there.”
“I love that idea!”
“Obviously so do I. Braden’s going to talk to Paul Dare about funding, and I need to have the same conversation with my father. My grandfather left me money in trust, but he also made my father the trustee, and it’s at his discretion whether or not to let me have money from the principal.”
She realized he’d begun tapping a foot against the floor, his knee bouncing up and down with every contact. “You’re really wound up about this, aren’t you?”

One Stupid Thing by Stewart Lewis-a review

One Stupid Thing by Stewart Lewis-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 16, 2021

One Stupid Thing follows four teens as they navigate the mystery surrounding a tragic, deadly accident that leaves them wondering: who is really to blame?

It was just one stupid thing that happened…

Summer on Nantucket island. Three high school friends drinking warm beer on a rooftop. Everything is cool, until a seemingly innocent game takes a sinister turn, and the course of their lives are changed forever.

For a year, they keep it a secret, until the following summer when they meet a mysterious girl with her own dark past who may have the answers they are looking for.

A story about friendship, mistakes, and the quest for redemption, One Stupid Thing follows Jamie, Sophia, Trevor and Violet as they contend with the consequences of their choices, navigate the drama in their individual lives and try to uncover what really happened on that fateful night.

••••••

REVIEW:ONE STUPID THING by Stewart Lewis is a young adult story of suspense following three high school friends in the aftermath of an accident that killed a local man.

Told from four first person perspectives (Jamie, Trevor, Sophia and Violet) ONE STUPID THING focuses on the events leading up to and after the car accident of which Jamie, Trevor and Sophia blame upon themselves. A late night party, a little bit of drinking, and a teenaged prank leads our trio to believe they have caused the death of a local man but one year would pass, everyone would lose contact, and very little is reported or known about the accident, including the name of the crash victim. Upon his return to Nantucket, Trevor would be befriended by Violet, the step-daughter of a local businessman, and a young woman who reveals a little more about that night one year earlier. What ensues is the hunt for the truth, and the possibility that there was something more sinister behind the death of Brendan Daly.

ONE STUPID THING is a coming of age story about four young adults who face the loss of friendship, drifting apart with the reality of what happened and why. Hoping to uncover the truth with the help of Violet, Jamie, Trevor and Sophia begin to unravel the secrets of Nantucket Island, and the truth behind the death of an innocent man.

The premise is intriguing and interesting but there is more telling than showing, and in this there is limited emotional attachment. The details are narrow and bounded as the story line does not go into any depth of events, and the character’s actions are almost apathetic and impersonal. Sadly, I felt disconnected from the story line premise.

She’s in desperate need of a job. He can’t resist the chance to have her at his mercy.

And they’re both about to discover what happens when the most intense passion they’ve ever felt is with a person they hate.

••••••••

REVIEW:Guilty Pleasure has got to be the most emotionally involved book Jessica Prince has produced so far. As always with a JP book, I was over the moon excited when I saw we were taking a trip back to Redemption. Small town romances are my bread and butter and always will be.

Guilty Pleasure is the fourth book in the small-town Redemption series. As a serial reader, I always recommend reading any series in order, but this one has enough of the back to story provided that it can be read as a standalone. -It was fun to read about characters from the previous 3 books though.- A fair warning to readers, you won’t be able to put this down after you start it. LOL I picked this up and was deep in the rabbit hole before I knew what was happening.

Lark is a boss. After losing so much at a young age, she found home, family and love in Redemption; everything she wanted so badly. Then suddenly, the floor is ripped out from under her feet and she is left with a gaping whole not only in her life, but in her heart as well. The people she thought where her family, the man she thought loved her and believed in her turn their backs on her. They take the word one someone else. With nothing more to hold her, and everyone wanting her gone, Lark takes her leave from Redemption and swears never to return.

She was done with the town and done with him.

Clay thought he found the love of his life; the one he brought into his family, his life and his heart, but was betrayed. Now she’s back; Lark, the woman who betrayed him and his family. The drama of the past is not forgotten, even if it was seven years ago.

Whewwww, what a read!

Lark and Clay’s story was a whirlwind of drama! I felt for Lark so much in this book. Returning to the place that she knows no one will welcome her, all for the sake of the only woman that has never thrown her away. You can tell how hard this is for Lark, but she is such a strong, independent woman and loves her aunt Sissy. Coming back to Redemption is the last thing she ever thought she would do, but helping Sissy is what she needs. However, when she clashes with Clay and the rest of the town things get heated and the truth finally comes out. Both Clay and Lark struggle with the truth when it comes out and one of them finds it hard to let go of the past.

Take the journey to Redemption and find out just what happens with Clay and Lark! Oh, and a request to the lovely JP; I’m gonna need Callum’s, Pope’s and Willow’s stories pretty, pretty please! I am fully aware I have a reading addiction; I just don’t care. Lol

At Lumpy’s little yip of excitement, I looked down and covered my mouth with a finger. “Shh!” I whispered. “Do you want us to get caught?”
I could have sworn he understood me, because he turned and looked at the kitchen’s doorway, raising his ears slightly like he was listening closely to make sure no one was coming.
“Good boy,” I crooned quietly when he looked back up at me with those big, round chocolaty eyes. “You keep quiet and I’ll give you all the treats.” Just to show him I was a woman of my word, I pulled another piece of thinly sliced chicken from the deli bag I’d found in one of the fridge’s drawers. That was the fifth slice I’d given sweet Lumpy since I spotted Clay’s name written on one side of the bag in black permanent marker.
As far as I was concerned, he totally deserved it. “Is that good chicken?” I cooed, smiling wide when Lumpy’s tail began swishing back and forth across the floor like a hyper little bunny. “Yeah. I bet it is. I bet your daddy spent a pretty penny, getting that from the butcher instead of the sandwich meat section like a regular person.” I pulled out another slice and tossed it up so Lumpy could chomp it midair. Next I was going to teach him how to balance a treat on his nose before catching it.
“Serves him right for making me clean out the stupid fridge.”
I’d been with Morrison Construction for three days, and as I suspected, Clay was going out of his way to make my job miserable. There hadn’t been another blowup like the insanely tense scene in Callum’s empty office, however that didn’t mean he was taking it easy on me. Because he absolutely wasn’t.
But I wasn’t going to let him see how much he was getting to me. The more I swallowed down my snide comments or bit my cheek until it bled to keep from calling him every vile curse in the history of the human word, the angrier he seemed to get. For some reason, it felt like he wanted me to fight back. So I wouldn’t give him that luxury. It was childish, pushing his buttons like that, but I was giving myself that little rebellion.

The Rise of the Altereds by Marisa Noelle – a Review

The Rise of the Altereds by Marisa Noelle – a Review

Amazon / B&N / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
GENETIC MODIFICATION HAS BEEN OUTLAWED.

THE REMAINING ALTEREDS WANT REVENGE.

When Silver’s mother is abducted by a rogue scientist who releases a deadly new virus on the populace, she and her now unadjusted friends are faced with an impossible choice.

They can hide from the virus for as long as possible, or they can regain their abilities and take the battle to the mountains. But Silver doesn’t count on a new, rogue power growing within her. She can’t control it and soon all her friends are in danger. And there is something evil hiding in the snowy Sierras.

Can Silver learn to control her new, deadly power in time to rescue her mother as well as defeat the one who seeks to destroy them all?

Review:

The Rise of the Altereds by Marisa Noelle is the 2nd book in her The Unadjusteds trilogy.  When I read the first book, I wasn’t sure that there would be more, and I was happy to find out that this is now a trilogy.  Refresher:  The Unajusteds is a YA Dystopian story, with Silver Melody, our wonderful teenage heroine.  Silver is very strong, fast and has abilities that make her special. In a world with most people having been altered with enhancements, Silver was one of those that were unadjusted.  At the end of the last book, Silver and her friends defeated the President and freed those altered and unadjusted.

In The Rise of the Altereds, Silver’s father is working on a vaccine to fix those altered back to normal.  Silver, Matt, Paige, and the team is still together, but another evil presence has taken over the role of leader (Earl) using a virus that is killing everyone, as well as creating evil entities and creatures to destroy the world as they know it. Silver’s mother is still in captivity, and they all get together to try and rescue her mother. Silver’s father is able to give them back their altered abilities to help fight the horrors they will face. Silver is the most powerful of all of them, especially with an unknown dark ability that she has not learned how to use.  Along the way, Silver will pick up some more abilities just by touching someone, which includes seeing into the future.

What follows is an exciting and intense adventure that once again pits Silver and her friends against so many dangerous situations, including making sure they do not catch the virus, as well as the creatures, birds, hellhounds they come across.   From start to finish, this was filled with action, danger, violence, as I held my breath to see who will survive.  To tell too much more would be spoilers, and ruin it for you.

The Rise of the Altereds was a very well written, intense and emotional story line that held my attention throughout.   Marisa Noelle did a fabulous job giving us an exciting story, wonderful heroine and great secondary characters. The ending was exciting, wild and emotional.  I loved Silver, as she made a great heroine. I look forward to the final book in this trilogy.  I wholly suggest if you like an action-packed dystopian theme, you should be reading this series.
