Description:
The Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease may be gone but their legacy of evil lives on—especially in Africa, where the shambling, rotting creatures called the reborn have gained a glimmer of vicious intelligence.

It is up to Titus, archangel of this vast continent, to stop the reborn from spreading across the world. Titus can’t do it alone, but of the surviving powerful angels and archangels, large numbers are wounded, while the rest are fighting a surge of murderous vampires.

There is no one left…but the Hummingbird. Old, powerful, her mind long a broken kaleidoscope. Now, she must stand at Titus’s side against a tide of death upon a discovery more chilling than any other. For the Archangel of Disease has left them one last terrible gift…

•••••••••••

Sandy’s Review: ARCHANGEL’S SUN is the thirteenth full-length instalment in Nalini Singh’s contemporary, adult GUILD HUNTER dystopian/ paranormal/ urban fantasy series focusing on Archangel’s, angels, vampires, shifters and hunters. This is the archangel of Africa Titus, and Angel Lady Sharine, aka the Hummingbird’s story line ARCHANGEL’S SUN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order. For followers and fans, the Hummingbird is Illium aka Bluebell’s mother.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Titus and Sharine) ARCHANGEL’S SUN picks up in the aftermath of the Cascade that destroyed many of the Archangel’s strongholds and cities throughout the world. At the request of New York’s Archangel Raphael, Lady Sharine has been tasked with helping archangel of Africa Titus in his struggle to rebuild but the war continues in Africa as Lijuan and Chrisemnon’s creations-the reborn- are terrorizing and destroying everything and everyone in their path but a more dangerous weapon and heinous creature is about to be revealed, and with it the possibility of the destruction of angelkind. What ensues is the continued battle with the reborn, and the building romance and relationship between our leading couple.

Lady Sharine is an artist among the angels, the mother to Illium, and a mother –like figure to Archangel Raphael but Sharine’s past is shrouded in heart break and despair, and our heroine has struggled with the knowledge that everyone she has loved has been taken from her or destroyed her faith in the world. Believed to have been wounded, insane and broken, Lady Sharine is a strong woman, and an even stronger ‘warrior’ with a hidden ability of which nobody is aware. Titus knows he comes off as obnoxious and loud, preferring to yell rather than coddle his warriors but with the arrival of Lady Sharine something softens within our story line hero, as they work together to rid his holdings of the zombie-like reborn, and in doing so, search for a possible link and antidote to the flesh eating virus.

The relationship between Titus and Shirane begins acrimoniously as Titus believes Shirane is too frail and sickly to help with the rebuild. Centuries of rumors and innuendo regarding Shirane’s mental and emotional health have weighed heavily amongst the angels and Archanges but Shirane is about to surprise Titus with her abilities and powers, not only as an artist, but an angel worthy of being a consort. The lone $ex scenes is passionate but mostly implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of virtual secondary and supporting characters most of whom we have met in the previous instalments: Archangel Raphael, Sharine’s ex and Illium’s father Archangel Aegaeon, Raphael’s mother Archangel Caliane; Archangels Suyin, Neha and Alexander; vampire Trace; Titus’ spymaster Ozias; angels Tanae, Tzadiq, Orios; as well as Titus’ sisters Zuri, and Nala.

ARCHANGEL’S SUN is a story of betrayal and revenge; recovery and revelations; friendships, relationships and love. The premise is edgy and tragic ; the characters are energetic, colorful, captivating and strong; the slow building romance is sensitive. Another wonderful addition to Nalini Singh’s GUILD HUNTER series.

Barb’s Review:
Archangel’s Sun by Nalini Singh is the 13th book in her fantastic Guild Hunter series.  Once again Nalini Singh continues to amaze us with another fantastic addition to this series.  The last book was so intense, exciting and mindboggling from start to finish, and I thought perhaps Archangel’s Sun would be at a slower pace; but even though this book was not as epic, it was an amazing wonderful story that also kept the flow continue to be seamless.

With all the world affected, the Archangels are all working overtime to fight the horrific situations throughout.  Titus, our hero, has taken over as the Archangel of Africa, where the evil now deceased Lijuan, created the horrible reborn (rotting creatures/crazed vampires).  Titus has his hands full, with all of his angels and warriors struggling and working night and day to kill the reborn; as well as trying to stop the other deceased Archangel Charisemnon’s (Archangel of Disease) creations that could be even worse.   To his surprise, Raphael sends help in the form of the infamous Hummingbird (Sharine); which he isn’t too pleased about, since she is a well-loved woman with gifts, but not someone who is able to help in this battle.  Of course, he will be in for a big surprise

Sharine, our heroine, (Illium’s mom, as well as Aodhan’s adopted mom) has been helping run Lumia, but accepts Raphael’s decision to go to Africa.  Sharine has spent many years slowly putting herself back together (recovering from her tragic fractured mind, and from a deep slumber),  to rise up become what she was meant to be.  I absolutely loved Sharine, her confidence, toughness, and her learning the powers she had fully forgotten about.  She was such a delight, and it was so much fun to watch her early on stand up to Titus, and his shock at her behavior, as she was supposed to be a quiet gifted and fragile woman who people adored, not someone constantly answering him back.

Titus is a well-respected and fierce 3000 year warrior, who found himself after a rough beginning falling for the wonderful Sharine.  I loved watching them together, as she managed to bring him down a peg or two, especially when their feelings for each other became apparent.  Together they worked to find clues as to what Charisemnon was hiding, and we also got to see Sharine learn to use her powers to help Titus and his team.

Archangel’s Sun was a wonderful, sweet, fun, romantic, as well as emotional story that made this into a fabulous addition to this series.  Both Titus and Sharine were a fantastic couple that had us rooting for them from the start.   As in just about every book I read from Nalini Singh, I could not put this book down.  Though enough details are given through the book, I do suggest you read the previous book for cohesion.  If you are new to the series, you should start where it all began. Bravo to Nalini for giving us a fantastic couple in Titus and Sharine.    Nalini Singh is one of my top favorite authors, and if you are not reading her books, you need to start now.

I was never supposed to want to keep her.
She was meant to be borrowed.
Mine for six days and not a day longer.
She doesn’t belong to me.
She belongs to someone else.

My brother…

The closest person I have outside of the screaming fans and paparazzi—a constant in my new life— other than the whiskey I drown myself in to numb the pain left by someone else.

But a secluded cabin in the woods and my ex who decided she’s not over me forces me to go to the extreme in order to take control of my world again before I lose it completely.

Unfortunately for me, my brother’s girlfriend is the only girl I haven’t slept with and made fall for me, resulting in hating me in the end.

She’s my only option.

Sharing a room in a cabin with me is most girls’ dream come true, but for Natalie, she claims it’s her worst nightmare. She thinks I’m a cocky bastard and has always been good at destroying my ego.

I never realized when I asked to borrow her for the trip, that I’d feel something I haven’t felt in a long time, or that I’d like the way she pretends she doesn’t enjoy being around me.

Have you ever borrowed something and didn’t want to give it back?

Yeah, well, me too. And I’m starting to think she should have been mine to begin with

REVIEW:RECKLESS ROCK STAR by Victoria Ashley is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, rock, romance story line in the multi-authored Cocky Hero Club. This is rock star Madden Parker, and hotel receptionist Natalie’s storyline.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Natalie and Madden) RECKLESS ROCK STAR follows the building romance and relationship between is rock star Madden Parker, and hotel receptionist Natalie. It’s that time of year when rock star Madden Parker takes one week for himself, meeting a group of friends for their annual camping and fun but three years earlier Madden’s heart was broken when he discovered his then, long term, girlfriend Alana had been unfaithful and the trip to the cottage brought back too many memories. Alana’s continued attempts to get back together with Madden extend to the cottage but this year Madden is deseperate enough to bring a ‘fake girlfriend’ along for the fun. Enter his brother Logan’s girlfriend Natalie. What ensues is the fake boyfriend/girlfriend relationship between Natalie and Madden, and the potential fall-out as the fake relationship becomes all too real.

Natalie never expected her boyfriend Logan to agree to the fake relationship plan but Logan’s insistence pushed Natalie into agreeing with Madden, an agreement that was about to spiral out of control. With Natalie’s help, Madden is desperately hoping to convince Alana that she matters no longer but Madden and Natalie’s attempts to remain objective crumble when the heart wants something more.

The relationship between Madden and Natalie is a fake boyfriend/girlfriend relationship in which Madden is ‘borrowing’ his brother’s girlfriend for an extended vacation. Logan’s lack of concern is disconcerting to both Natalie and Madden, and in this Logan has secrets that could destroy both his brother and the woman with whom Madden is falling in love. Madden and Natalie’s fake relationship is about to cross the line, a line from which they can never return. The limited $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the member of the rock band RISK: Landon and Hendrix, as well as Madden’s brother Logan, and their friends Jake, Jess, Walker, Seth, Riley and Madden’s ex girlfriend Alana.

RECKLESS ROCK STAR is a story of family, friendships and relationships; betrayal, vengeance and heart break; romance, seduction and love. The premise is captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and charismatic

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 27 2020

Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job?

My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.

As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

CODE NAME: ROOK runs parallel to and crosses over with CODE NAME: GHOST.

After returning from his last mission, a mission where they rescued his fellow Jameson Security Agent Malik Fournier, Cage Murdock needed a little down time and found himself at a local bar where he would meet social worker Jaime Dolan. Several hours later, and one night together, Cage knew he wanted something more but our hero lied about his occupation, leaving Jaime to believe he was a used car salesman. Weeks together, and a few days in Vegas, resulted in a spur of the moment wedding to a woman who had no idea about Cage’s real life but all was about to spiral out of control when Jaime would be targeted by the Irish mob, targeted for sins and secrets of someone close. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Cage and Jaime, and the potential fall-out as secrets and lies threaten Cage and Jaime’s happily ever after, and the threats against Jaime become dangerous and deadly.

Cage Murdock was always a bit of a player, and knew when he revealed the truth about his life as a US Navy SEAL, women always saw something different than the man behind the job. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 27, 2020

SOMETIMES IT TAKES ONE BROKEN HEART TO HEAL ANOTHER.

Courtney Winston is a writer on a deadline. Eager to finish her book and get over a recent break-up, she ditches Christmas with her family and retreats to a secluded cabin in the mountains.

Appliances rarely work, and cell service is spotty, but Courtney senses there is more to her rustic rental—something dark and haunting.

Then Peter, the attractive Stone Mountain Lodge owner, and a meddling cook, Mrs. Finn, keep coming around, shattering her peace and offering advice on how to fix her heavy heart.

Courtney grows closer to Peter, but Mrs. Finn warns her of his troubled past. Undaunted, Courtney sets out to win him over. But being with the brooding stranger may end up costing her more than she ever imagined.

••••••••

REVIEW: THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT by Alexandrea Weis focuses on accountant/ author Courtney Winston in the days prior to the Christmas holiday.

Courtney Winston’s manuscript had been accepted by a big name publisher but in an effort to get the book ready for a new year push, our heroine had to spend the holidays making revisions she didn’t want to make. A secluded cabin in the Smoky Mountains was the ideal spot for our story line heroine but strange noises and even stranger visitors began to push Courtney out of her comfort zone. If not for the frequent visits by a black cat, the lodge owner Peter Morris, and cook Mrs. Finn, Courtney believes she never would have made it through the holidays or finished her book. From Austrian folklore and mythology about tragedy, spirits and the Christmas holidays, Courtney would find herself at a crossroads between the real world, and the ethereal world of spirits and ghosts.

THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT is a story of good vs evil; loss, heart break and romance, hope and love. Alexandrea Weis pulls the reader into a transcendent story of dark and light, spirits and ghosts, love and happily ever after.

Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender – a Review

Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Apple

Description:
Chased by a group of angry men. Saved by quite a hunk.

This is not the résumé Ginger Halloway ever imagined having. But thanks to a miracle pill, which makes her size 22 body instantly sexy, that’s what happened.

Yet, now Lance Franklin is showing interest in her, and she can’t figure out if he really likes her for her, or if it’s just because of a bizarre drug.

And her wild bunch of friends, The Misfits…well, they’re always getting her into some interesting situations.

So, yep, business as usual. Except for the guy. What the hell should she do about him?

As for Lance, he believes he’s lucky to have found Ginger. But can he convince her they should go for it?

With some new attention from the hottest guy she’s ever met, Ginger can’t help but wonder…is this all too good to be true?

Review:

Reading the back cover of Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender, I thought of Eddie Murphy in “The nutty Professor”

Ginger is a “full figured” feisty female. Her outlook on life ? She’s come to finally accept she won’t ever be a “conventional” size, that doesn’t mean she’s happy, but happy enough. So when she gets the chance at a “miracle” pill to help with her weight, Ginger signs up…..   But what she gets isn’t a slimming pill, it’s a pill that makes her a magnet for men!!

I laughed through most of the book. It’s hilarious, the dance competition was great, but the downside of this book was the fear she had when men wouldn’t take the hint and leave her alone!! But her guardian angel keeps stepping in to save her…..

I liked this story, very descriptive, really well written, it’s a struggle most women have at least once in their life, the struggle to keep the weight off, will they be attractive? Will anyone ever see past the “fat suit”?

Loved her college friends, they’d clubbed together and called themselves “The Misfits”, they were a great bunch of friends, always had Ginger’s back. She knew she could rely on them, and friends like that are hard to find.

So what happens with Lance and Ginger? Will she be able to tell him the pills are making him want her? Because he couldn’t want her, could he? And if Lance ever finds out that she’s taking pills, would he ever forgive her?

I’m hoping the misfits find their stories too.

So when Rhett buys the Riggs property as a favor to her brother, Jules makes him feel as welcome as a skunk at a garden party … but is it possible that Rotten Rhett isn’t so rotten after all? Or is the Texas heat melting her resolve to hate him?

Review:

Home With You by Liza Kendall is the 2nd book in her Silverlake Ranch series.   I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I am happy to say that I loved this one too, and have added Liza Kendall to my list of must-read authors for fun pure romances.

Rhett Braddock, our hero, returns to Silverlake, Texas after being away for many years. He returns to help his best friend, Grady, whose father is ill and has fallen on hard times financially;  Rhett, who is now very successful and wealthy, buys some of the Riggs land, mostly the stables/horses; bringing back wonderful memories, especially of Frost, his horse before he left town, who his brother sold to the Riggs. Rhett is also determined to mend fences with his family, Jake, Lila and Declan.

Julianna Riggs, our heroine, is shocked when she discovers that her father sold part of their ranch to Rhett, since she is the one who handles the stables and the horses.   Jules tries to avoid Rhett, as she has never forgotten their one night stand a few months ago, when Rhett walked out before she woke up. She has always had a crush as a teenager on Rhett, but she hates him right now.  Every chance she sees him, she is very belligerent and angry that he has taken away her rights as being in charge of the horses.   Rhett, knows he was wrong leaving her that night, but he feared that his best friend would turn on him if he knew about his one-night stand with his baby sister.  Rhett, does everything in his power, to make Jules understand, and tells her she is still in charge running the stables; he just wants to help increase the profits for the Riggs ranch, and spend his own money to improve things.  Despite all of that, Jules still gives him a hard time, even if she feels the attraction to Rhett very much still there.

What follows is a wonderful heartwarming and emotional small-town romance with a couple we loved from the start.  I loved Rhett and Jules, but throughout most of the book, we were not sure if they could ever get past their issues.  Rhett’s fears of worrying about Grady’s reaction, incensed Jules, each time they react on their feelings for each other, constantly pushing them back another step. I loved seeing Jake and Charley again, and Lila was a hoot throughout the book, especially trying to push Rhett and Jules together. It was wonderful to see Rhett and Declan finally come to terms and be the close brothers they once were.  I also got a kick out of Jules dog, Beast, and loved Rhett’s feelings for Frost, his old horse.  There are some emotional moments.

Home With You is an emotional sweet romance that brings together a couple that was destined to be, and a family that needed to pull together from the past and forgive.   Liza Kendall has created a wonderful group of secondary characters, whom I look forward to learning about them all in future books.  If you enjoy pure romances with a family and small-town background, I suggest you read Home With You.

A Duke is Never Enough by Darcy Burke-a review

A Duke is Never Enough (Spitfire Society #3) by Darcy Burke-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 25, 2020

Notorious rake Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, is gracing the gossip pages for a new reason: the rumors he may have murdered his swindling cousin. His quest for answers regarding his cousin’s death leads him to an incomparable self-declared spinster, and he is—for the first time—beguiled beyond reason. Neither is what the other wants, and yet their intense mutual infatuation is inescapable.

After abandoning her philandering betrothed at the altar, Phoebe Lennox fled from London only to return an heiress who refuses to follow the ton’s rules. She won’t risk a relationship of any kind—until she meets the notorious Marquess of Ripley. Swept into his seductive embrace, her resolve falters in the face of a pleasure she never anticipated. But when the truth about Marcus and the murder come to light, Phoebe could lose everything she holds dear, including a love for all time.

••••••••

REVIEW: A Duke is Never Enough is book two of the Spitfire Society by Darcy Burke. This is a wonderful add to her new series.

This is a historical romance and features some characters from the Untouchables series. This is the story of Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley (Rip) and Phoebe Lennox.
Marcus is a bit of a rake. His reputation is a bit more than he deserves, but he has had quite a few ladies in his life. Phoebe, if you remember from previous novels, left her betrothed, Laurence Sainsbury, at the alter and left London. However, her aunt left her a fortune and she declared herself independent and helped form the Spitfire Society. She is a self-proclaimed spinster and not looking for a husband.

When Marcus confronts his cousin, Archibald Drobbit, for swindling people (Graham, the Duke of Halstead from previous novels) a fight ensues and before he runs away, Drobbit throws a rock at Marcus’s head wounding him slightly. This was a public display Marcus hadn’t wanted to have. He rides away on his horse but is bleeding and he stops to clean himself up. A lovely young woman rides up on a horse and helps him. He’s intrigued by her and wants to see her again, but she won’t give him her name. He has the handkerchief she used, and he promises to return it tomorrow. She doubts he can find out who she is that quickly. Bets are made and the adventure begins.

This is a thoroughly intriguing novel with lots of great conversations, adventure, danger, and of course sizzzzzling romance. I don’t do spoilers, and nobody does romance like Darcy Burke! Don’t miss it!

REVIEW: Sinful Scot is a historical/time travel/romance novel. I don’t intend to miss a single part of this wonderfully written new series. I eagerly await the next novel.

I don’t do spoilers, and I certainly wouldn’t want to spoil a second of this exciting series. So, I’ll give you the basic set up and let you salivate over the rest! (I’m writing this while chuckling evilly.)

The story starts with a prelude of King Alexander in Fifeshire, Scotland in 1286. Shona MacKinnish has just witnessed the death of King Alexander, and it was not an accident. She is being pursued by one of those who planned and carried out the deed. They scared his horse and he was thrown over a cliff to his death. There are many more details, this is just the basics of what happened. She reached Hightower castle and tells her healer sister what has happened and that she’s being chased. They mean to kill her to silence her. Her sister is a powerful woman and attempts to send her to their home and clan to protect her. She uses an ancient silver cross the fae gave her with special powers for traveling. However, Shona gets the chant wrong and disappears, no one knows where she has gone.

The first chapter sets the premise and deepens the plot and it’s so cool. Okay, here’s the setup for the actual story. The first chapter is set in the year 2020, New Orleans.

There are four brothers in total. Rhys, Reikart, Greyson, and Ian. Their mother, Shona, just disappeared five years ago. They had made extensive efforts to find her, but there was literally no trace of her. Tonight, is the anniversary of her disappearance. Their father, Colin, was heartbroken and is now seemingly mad. He believed she’d gone through time and spent all his time with books and charts trying to find a way to get her back. He spent a small fortune on an ancient book of spells or chants in hope of getting his wife back. The police and the brothers believe she just walked out. It just doesn’t make sense to them, because they’d always been madly in love.

When their father collapses and is taken to the hospital, the brothers investigate his study to try to find out what he was up to when he got so sick. What they find is both amazing and truly a bit crazy…and the fun and adventure begins!

Rhys is the focus of the first novel and what a wonderfully exciting story it is! There is so much adventure, romance, love and more here. However, you will need to read the rest for yourself. I can only tell you it’s worth both the time and the price of the book. I think this series is a must read!

Kudos to Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca on what I believe will be a very lucrative and popular series.

I just want the next one soon! PLEASE!

Follow: Goodreads / Facebook / Twitter / Newsletter

Author Julie Johnstone first fell in love with romance fifteen years ago when she picked up her first romance novel in an airport gift shop on the way to Conroe, Texas for a family reunion and spent her whole weekend reading rather than water skiing, which up until then was one of her favorite things to do.

Julie is staying up way too late and typing furiously on her keyboard to finish her next book or blog with her fellow authors at Ladyscribes. Julie is married to an amazing lawyer and when she is not running her two precocious children to one activity or another she is trying to seek out some time to stay in shape and see her dearest friends.

About Cecelia Mecca

Follow: Goodreads/Twitter/Website / Bookbub

Cecelia Mecca is the author of historical romance and also writes paranormal romance as C.L. Mecca.

Every heroine, from Lady Sara in the Border Series to Alessandra Fiore in Bloodwite, is your best friend– the one who kicks ass and takes names. When these ladies meet alpha-males who try to take control, sparks fly until the very last page.

Cecelia writes the Amazon bestselling Border Series and brand new Order of the Broken Blade series which take readers to an admittedly romanticized time of knights and castles in medieval England and Scotland.

She also has her hands full with the ultimate bad boys– sexy, wealthy and swoon-worthy vampires– a venture not for the faint of heart. Her debut paranormal romance series, Bloodwite, released in 2019.

Our Highlander-loving, vampire-writing author can be found in Northeast, Pennsylvania, chai in hand, thinking up new ways to tame both medieval and paranormal playboys. She is firmly House Stark and Gryffindor.
