REVIEW: HEATED CARESS is the second instalment in EC Land’s contemporary, adult DE LUCA CRIME FAMILY dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Christian Bandoni, and Mia De Luca’s story line. HEATED CARESS can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order including the prequel novella FROZEN VALENTINE.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Mia and Christian) HEATED CARESS follows in the wake of threats against our story line heroine. Mia De Luca runs the Hellfire Dance Club in MC territory, and ensures there are no drugs or $ex on the property but when one of her employees finds herself a victim of assault, Mia goes in search of the person responsible but all is not well as Mia’s recent past is threatening our story heroine, a past that has left Mia scarred both inside and out. With Christian refusing to leave her side, Mia battles between head and heart knowing our hero’s reputation with the women in his life. What ensues is the tempestuous and struggling relationship between Mia and Christian, and the potential fall-out as Mia and the club are targeted in a game of power and control.

Months earlier Mia and her best friend Blake were kidnapped and assaulted in a fight for control between warring Mafia families leaving Mia a shell of her former self. Running Hellfire keeps our heroine busy but threats against the dancers, her business and her life force Christian to claim Mia as his own.Christian has been in love with Mia for as long as he can remember but Mia doesn’t feel worthy believing Christian is only after her for her body.

The relationship between Mia and Christian struggles in the face of duty, honor, and family. Christian is a member of the De Luca Crime family, and as such Mia believes he is only doing his job. Mia tends to run when the Christian gets too close but threats from the past reveal a secret family pact, a pact where Mia is the ultimate prize. Told from dual first person perspectives (Theo and Blake) FROZEN KISS follows the building relationship between Theo De Luca, and Blake Bandoni. Weeks earlier Blake Bandoni found herself the victim of a potential abduction but Theo De Luca protected and rescued the woman with whom he would fall in love. Searching for a traitor in the De Luca organization, Theo, along with Blake’s brother Christian, and his cousin Leo De Luca, call in the perfect foil, a witch of a woman Theo used to date but all does not go according to plan when the discovery of a rat reveals more than one player in the game. With Blake and Theo’s cousin Mia, the easier targets, the enemy strikes, in an attempt to take down the De Luca crime family, one player at a time. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Theo and Blake, and the fall-out when betrayal comes from the top.

The relationship between Theo and Blake struggles in the face of Blake’s lack of self worth, and low self esteem. Believing she is unworthy of love and affection, Blake battles between head and heart with the actions and words from the man with whom she is falling in love. Theo doesn’t do relationships; considers his heart ‘frozen’ to love and a happily ever after but threats against Blake push Theo to take a stand, claiming the woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Blake’s brother Christian, and their parents; Theo’s cousins Leo and Mia, as well as several low level members of the De Luca Crime Family; Blake’s ex Ethan, and Theo’s ex Gillian. The requisite evil has many faces.

FROZEN KISS is a graphic story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, death and destruction, obsession and violence. The premise is dark, gritty and heart breaking; the romance is seductive; the characters are dynamic, determined and dangerous.

As I stated above, I recommend reading FROZEN VALENTINE (see link below) before venturing into FROZEN KISS.
