REVIEW: GUARDING HER is the eighteenth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY romantic suspense series. This is illustrator Gia Ferrer , RSS agent Lawson Murphy’s story line. GUARDING HER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from third person perspective GUARDING HER follows the building romance and relationship between illustrator Gia Ferrer , RSS agent Lawson Murphy. Lawson Murphy has lusted after his best friend’s sister Gia for as long as he can remember but the bro-code means hands off, and Lawson watches from the sidelines as Gia moves on with her life. When the opportunity to become a swimwear model for her friend’s clothing line presents itself, Gia reluctantly agrees but soon after, the online stalkers and comments become threatening and all too real. Enter Lawson Murphy, who becomes Gia’s personal body guard and protector. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Gia and Lawson, and the potential fall-out when Gia becomes the social media darling, and someone targets our story line heroine.
Lawson Murphy knows not to cross the line with his best friend’s sister but when our hero is hired to protect Gia Ferrer from an unknown stalker, Lawson must take a professional stance, struggling with his attraction to the woman who calls to his heart. Gia Ferrer has no idea who is behind the threats but when the personal responsible gets too close for comfort, Gia knows that it’s time to call in help from the man with whom she is falling in love.
Meanwhile, Clarita and Carlos, Gia’s soon to be extended in-laws, are battling some demons of their own. Carlos is always working late, rarely home, and Clarita believes the man that she loves has fallen for someone else.
The relationship between Gia and Lawson is one of immediate attraction. Gia believes Lawson is disinterested, in the wake of rejection and often being ignored but Lawson is keeping his distance in order to protect a friendship. As the threats against Gia Ferrer increase, so too does Lawson’s need for, and attraction to our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are limited but seductive and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, many of whom we have met in previous story lines. We are introduced to Gia’s brother Juan, his fiancé Angel, Clarita and Carlos, as well as several members of the crew at the swimwear shoot.
GUARDING HER is a story of betrayal and vengeance, obsession and control, understanding, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are energetic and strong-willed.
