ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 12, 2025
When the FBI sidelines Special Agent Stephanie Kramer over health concerns, she sees her hard-won dream career go down the drain. Suddenly adrift and without purpose, she jumps at the chance when a friend offers for her to stay in their trailer by a quiet, secluded creek near Libby, Montana. As much as she tries to enjoy the tranquil settings, it’s not long before local wildlife—and the man chasing it—invade her sanctuary. When it appears the job she’s trying to leave behind is following her to Libby, the illusion of her solitary retreat is shattered.
After that last special ops assignment cost Jackson Hart his leg, he’s had a hell of a time getting back on his proverbial feet. Being hired as a member of the High Mountain Trackers team went a long way to reclaiming his sense of identity. He’s back in the saddle and adapting to a pared-down, mostly solitary existence. So the sudden jolt to his gut, when he encounters the blond federal agent he remembers well, is a harsh reminder of what is missing from his life.
Still, as much as they try to avoid the other, they seem destined to cross paths. Whether it is the intimidation of a local predator, or the threat of a former nemesis, it becomes clear they stand stronger together.

REVIEW:HIGH VELOCITY is the fourth and final instalment in Freya Barker’s contemporary, adult HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS : HMT 2G erotic, romantic suspense series, a second generation spin off, set in the author’s HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS series. This is FBI Special Agent Stephanie Kramer, and thirty-eight year old, former US Special Ops soldier Jackson Hart’s story line. HIGH VELOCITY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines, is revealed where necessary. Jackson is the step son of High Mountain Trackers owner Jonas Harvey.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jackson and Stephanie) HIGH VELOCITY follows several paths including the ongoing search and rescues for High Mountain Tracker, as well as the hunt for a parole. Stephanie Kramer is on hiatus from the FBI in the wake of a health scare and something else but hunting season in Libby Montana brings Stephanie up close and personal with HMT rescuer Jackson Hart. With the help of some well intentioned family and friends, Stephanie finds herself in the orbit that is our story line hero but when her former partner at the FBI asks for help locating a missing man, starting with the felons supposed girlfriend, Stephanie finds herself, once again, working undercover, to expose the truth but a truth that places Stephanie in the direct line of fire.
The world building focuses on the building romance and relationship between Jackson and Stephanie as they navigate Jackson’s loss of his leg, and the numerous searches that place added stress and pressure on a man who is struggling to heal. As Stephanie finds herself pulled into the family that is the High Mountain Trackers, she is left wondering where in her life everything went wrong.
The relationship between Stephanie and Jackson begins acrimoniously as our hero struggles in the face of his injury and loss. Jackson is often battling between head and heart, wanting the happiness and family he sees in his friends but our hero never expected a family of his own, preferring to struggle alone with the hand he was dealt. The $ex scenes are erotic and intimate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of charismatic and familiar secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met in both the original and current series including the return of Jonas and Alex, Jonas’ stepfather Thomas, Ama, along with Bo, Fletch and Sully.
HIGH VELOCITY is an intriguing story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, manipulation and conflict, acceptance and love. The premise is captivating, exciting and entertaining; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are energetic, determined and dynamic.
