Description:
For over four thousand years he has been an Elf to command respect from warriors and Kings alike. He is Torrent, Kings Champion and one of the few to go fearlessly into the dangers beyond the portal to form a bond with the Elven Empire there. He is held in great honor there, friend to the King and his sons. He has been sent by the Light King to relay an offer of friendship and help to bring the wars there to an end, for the King has seen a day when the boundary between their worlds will fail.

Serenity has shrouded her life in mystery. None save the King knows what she is or what she has done, for she walks a path she would rather none know of. She is an Elf of great beauty and great talent and with one look of her silver blue eyes she has brought one of the greatest Elves her people have known to his knees, for they are Life Mates, and though he would charge into her life and take it over, she would only have him once he has come to learn her ways. Theirs is a battle of wills and learning to bend with the raging winds of fate.

Review:
King’s Champion by M.A. Abraham is the 3rd novel in her Elven Chronicles series.  This story revolves mostly around Torrent and Serenity, as they are this book’s lifemates, though every character we have loved from the start of this series, plays a major role in the story. 

As much as Torrent is the King’s Champion, and a worthy match for the magnificent Serenity, this book belongs mostly to her.   I loved most of the women of the Elven Chronicles, with Eden being my favorite. However in King’s Champion, Serenity rises up to match Eden as my favorite heroine. 

As the story begins, Daroth gives Serenity an assignment to meet with King Garoldth.  Torrent has already left for the portal to bring the villian of Marious Story, Brennor home to meet his fate.  They will eventually meet, but Serenity is on a private mission that even Torrent cannot know.  Torrent is very forceful in showing Serenity how he feels, and his determination to rule her to his way.  He has met his match in Serenity. Lol 

The main story though is to help King Garoldth, and his kingdom, which is in a different portal.  It is being destroyed by demons, and the female population is almost gone, having been captured and destroyed by the demons.   Daroth has offered his help to save Garoldth’s people, with his warriors, and the Dragon fleet.  Serenity is the major player, as she will handle bringing all the Dragon riders, and Dragons forth to fight and destroy the demons in Garoldth’s kingdom.  To ensure the elves from this kingdom are safe, Serenity informs them they must all leave through the portal, before the Dragons arrive for battle. 

Spells by Eden to help increase the population will cause some havoc, but this is a fun part of the story.  Seeing Serenity with her Dragon Riders, and mostly meeting the wonderful Dragons was great.  I loved Alleria, the White Dragon, who belonged to Serenity, and enjoyed reading about the Red, Black, Silver, & Gold Dragons.  For whatever reason, I was not a big fan of Torrent, who does not match Gabriel, Marious, Daroth, Larek as lifemates, but I adored Serenity.   It is wonderful to see all of our favorites again, and the storyline was fun, exciting and I enjoyed reading this book very much.   In King’s Champion, M.A. Abraham keeps the flow and fun going in this wonderful series.

  1. Great review Barb. I really liked the book and found that Serenity was a strong and wise female. As you expressed Torrent came across as a little stuffy and postured a lot. But it did not distract from the story. Having all the previous characters show up in this book in some dynamic way was a real treat. With so much of the population having triplets and Quads blows the mind. In my estimation, Mary Ann has given us another “good read”

  2. Aloha Barb, haven’t visited for a while. What can I say about our Mary Ann. I re-read her series before reading KC. What a wonderful journey into her Elven world. Her Elven women have minds of their own. I love that about her series. But they’re so passionate about their soul mates. Mary Ann has a gift of wit, imagination and magic. I would like to count myself among one of her #1 fans!

  4. I have reread the whole series twice. LO< Some 3 times. Serenity has jumped right up there with Eden as my favorite females. Poor Torrent he just remained so bossy. . Serenity carrying him across the portal had me LOL . Love the books and Georgie will have to share No ! fan with me. LOL Great review Barb.

I love the world and characters Mary Ann has created w this series and now dragons eeee I’m stoked for this book

  9. Have to admit Barb, no matter how I tried to make Torrent change, he still remained stubbornly in the area where he deserved Serenity’s favorite form of punishment. Maybe in future books? Well we will see… thank you for the fantastic review and kind remarks. Maybe I will drop a tiny excerpt from Aura under this tomorrow for you. Would you like that?

    • He glared at the wolf and the woman as he rubbed at the bites on his arms, then nodded. “You are right. I owe you an apology. I will leave, but not until you agree to come with me. You cannot live in this cave forever, I will not let you.”

      “I can live wherever I choose. Nor do I need you or your permission to do so. You do not own me, I can do as I please.”

      “You are a woman in a man’s world. You will soon learn that there are many things that you will never be able to do. That wolf will not be able to protect you from everyone. In fact you could have been mourning a wolf as well as a snake if I would have had my sword nearby. Then you would have been more than just a little at my mercy.” He spoke through his pain and frustration. If it were not for the wolf at her side he would have attacked her again. It was not a thought that he was proud of.

      “Haven’t you done enough?” Aura shot back. “I am overwhelmed by the extent of the gratitude you have shown me for having saved your life. Next time I find you beaten and left for dead in some forest I will just leave you laying wherever you have fallen.

    Wonderful review, Barb. I absolutely enjoyed, loved, adored this book. And the cover, is such a gorgeous cover. It says everything about the story. The Dragons were such a great twist in the story. As always Mary, you never cease to amaze us 😉

  12. Great review and amazing excerpt! The review would make someone who is not familiar with the series to jump in and discover this wonderful world that Mary Ann created, same for the excerpt. Aura seems intriguing, can’t wait 🙂
