Knocked-up Cinderella by Julie Hammerle – a Review
Description:
I’m a walking contradiction.
School principal who liberally drops the F bomb.
Fiercely independent yet willing to auction myself off for charity.
Serial monogamist who’s down for a no-strings one-night stand.
Except now I’ve gone from one-working-ovary to co-parent in the time it took a stick to turn blue.
F. Bomb.
Ian Donovan may be a richer-than-hell venture capitalist, but he’s no Prince Charming ready to sweep me off my feet. Good thing I don’t need him. I’ve been doing fine on my own for forty years, and I’m not about to start changing that now.
Ultrasounds, swollen feet, midnight cravings? Bring. It. On.
But why is it when you finally swear off men, you meet one who’s too sexy—and determined we can make it work?
Review:
Knocked-up Cinderella by Julie Hammerle is snarky, funny, romantic comedy.
Dr. Erin Sharpe is a private school principal who finds herself dressed as Cinderella for her school’s charity auction. While hiding in the hallway behind a large topiary, she raises her tulle skirt and scratches her butt. Not once or twice but several times. Little did she know she was being watched by tree lurker, Ian Donavan, a player venture capitalist millionaire who never bids on anyone at charity auctions. He is only there to support his alumni.
But when Erin gets bid on by pretentious Paul Pfister, Ian realizes that he must break his own rule and bid on Erin. And he does just that, with a bid of $40k he seals the deal and must follow up with a dinner date with his alumni school principal.
Dr. Erin Sharpe is a walking contradiction. She is 40 years old, private school principal that loves to drop the F bomb and is a fan of crappy tv. She has had a series of bad relationships and has sworn once and for all that she is going to just do her. She tried for years to get pregnant with her ex, to no avail. So she decides at 40 it wasn’t meant to happen and she is going to explore her sexuality without worrying about finding Mr. Right or tying herself down with any kind of relationship.
Ian Donovan is a millionaire that has complete commitment issues. He lays out exactly what he is or isn’t looking for with his one night stands. And never sees the same woman twice. He has a set of rules he follows and never breaks them, no matter what.
But when he bids and wins a dinner date with Cinderella, private school principal Dr. Erin Sharpe things may suddenly change.
They lay down the rules before they even embark on the dinner date.
Just dinner, no strings attached. Just having fun. Until they have an amazing time with remarkable chemistry. They dance the night away and continue the fun at Erin’s place. They both leave the experience at what it was. A one night stand with no commitments, no attachments – just a night of fun for each participant.
That is until a few weeks later Erin turns up pregnant, and realizes that although she doesn’t want or need anything from Ian she must tell him.
And once she does, she gives him a complete out.
But is that really what Ian wants? Would he be content with walking away from his child?
This story was a wonderfully, fast paced read. I think what I enjoyed most was that it was a complete and total struggle to get the relationship where it wanted or needed to be. It was realistic in that neither party knew or had a clue what they wanted or how to go about getting it.
We all stumble in relationships from time to time and this was truly a book of stumbling to get what you want.
I appreciated the realness of both characters with the fact that they both thought they knew what they wanted and were pretty set in those facts. But in the end will love and family win out?
I enjoyed the secondary characters to the story and would be interested in seeing follow up stories on each of the sub-characters. A fast paced read that is snarky, fun and realistic. Would recommend to anyone looking for light-hearted, comical, snarky read.
