Review:
Loving a Lawman by Amy Lillard is the first book in her new Cattle Creek series. I have not read Amy Lillard, and after reading this fun small town romance, it will not be my last. I do enjoy these small town romances, and this was a bit different twist. Seth Langston, our hero, is the sheriff in Cattle Creek, Texas. Seth has had a crush for a few years on Jesse McAllen., but he cannot act on his feelings, as Jesse dates his brother, Chase.
The story begins when Seth is called to the scene of Chase’s truck being demolished. Everyone seems to believe that Jesse did it, since Chase was fooling around with another girl. Seth brought Jesse to jail, knowing she was innocent, only because she confessed. Afterall, everyone thought it was her anyway. With Chase being a notorious ladies man, constantly disappointing or angering Jesse, Seth decides he will make his move.
Everyone in town loves Jesse, as she is the local girl who has lived there all her life. Jesse is disgusted, and decides she will leave town once she saves enough money. She can’t live anymore near Chase and watch his constant philandering. When Seth tries to talk to her, he kisses Jesse and to his surprise, she responds to his kiss. What follows is a slow build romance that will open Jesse’s eyes that she has been looking at the wrong Langston brother all this time. Seth is sweet, caring, a hardworker and he wants Jesse for himself. On a night of passion, Jesse becomes pregnant and Seth is determined to marry her.
Jesse finds herself caring more and more about Seth, and finally begins to believe that maybe she can find happiness. A tragedy will occur that will send Jesse on the road to run away. Will Seth be able to stop her? Will he be able to prove that he truly loves her?
This was a nice sweet romance, with some surprises along the way. Amy Lillard does a wonderful job keeping our interest throughout, and having us root hard for Seth and Jesse. I loved them together, and kept reading in hope they would find their true happiness. I look forward to the next book in this series, and more about the Langstons. If you love sweet small town romances, I suggest you give Loving a Lawman a try.
