Description:
In Kalin Matthew’s world, elementals control the forces of nature. They are divided into four courts: air, woodland, fire, and water. At sixteen she will leave the life she’s built with her mortal mother. Kalin will move to Avalon to rule with her father—the elemental king of the air court. Along the way, she’s attacked by a fire court assassin and saved by Rowan, a swoon-worthy elemental with a questionable past.

Worst of all, she learns her father is missing.

To rescue him, Kalin will have to work with a judgmental council and a system of courts too busy accusing each other of deceit to actually be able to help her. But, they aren’t her biggest challenge. With the Midwinter’s Ball only five days away, Kalin must take over her father’s duties, which includes shifting control of the elements—power Kalin has yet to realize.

As Rowan attempts to train her, a war looms between the four courts. If Kalin fails, her father will die and the courts will fall, but the betrayal she’s about to uncover may cost her even more…

 Review:

In the previous book, Rowan’s point of view was read. This book has Kalin’s thoughts and actions. We start almost where the last book (novella) ends

Kalin is due to go home, to join her father in Avalon. But before that can happen, she is attacked !  But she is rescued by Rowan.

There is an instant attraction, but only on Kalin’s behalf. Rowan is very abrupt with her, and questions her stupidity about leaving her home unescorted. So, we then travel to Avalon, Kalin asking questions all the way, Rowan is very non committal and evasive.

Once Kalin gets to her court, she finds out that dad is missing ! Search parties are organised and help is at hand via the other courts. But something doesn’t sit right with Kalin, and she is quick to voice her opinions.

Kalin is a half blood, so the air court aren’t too keen on her, but she wants to prove her worth, and agrees to the ball in 5 days time. The ball is a handing over from one element to another, but if the other elements think that the next ruling element isn’t up to the job, they can challenge !

Rowan takes it upon himself to teach Kalin her powers. (she hasn’t used them whilst in the mortal world). The training is fun to read, and a few moments had me chuckling out loud 🙂 There are a few battles and close moments between Kalin and Rowan.

The attention to detail puts you in the book, and a scene in Vegas was great. (made me want to book a flight lol )

And the ending ……. It’s an opening for the next book, and I can’t wait ro read it. So if you like young adventure with a twist and attention to details, then this series is for you.

Thank you Stacey.

Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he’s capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses?

Review:

When I was asked to read this novella, it was free on amazon.

This is the beginning of the adventure. And for a beginning, I’m pretty pleased I was asked to read it.

It keeps at a steady pace, and doesn’t introduce too many people into the story too quick. The characters are very 3 dimensional, and I love the story from Rowan’s perspective.

His fight with right and wrong in his world, is something that most people can relate to. Loved his friend/slave, their friendship was put through the wringer a few times. Its a great way to start a series, and I can’t wait to read the next story.

Can I read the next one please ?? 🙂
