REVIEW:MY ANTI-HERO by Tijan is a stand alone, contemporary, adult story of romantic suspense focusing on graphic designer Billie, and professional football player Brett Broudou.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Billie and Brett) MY ANTI-HERO focuses on the building relationship between our story line couple. Billie is the only survivor of a man dubbed The Midwest Killer but since the age of twelve Billie has kept to herself, hidden by friends she calls family , working under the guise of a pseudonym and other names. Agreeing to a blind date arranged by the woman Billie calls sister, our heroine will come face to face with football star Brett Broudou, a man with dark demons of his own. A viral video clip, miscommunication and misunderstanding, as well as the secrets that are about to be exposed bring out a copycat killer who has set their sights on our story line heroine. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Brett and Billie, and the potential fall-out as Brett’s past becomes his present, and Billie’s must face a ghost she long thought was gone.

The world building is complex, detailed and twisted. Billie reveals some of her past while Brett continues to keep his demons close to his heart but threats to the people he loves force Brett to push Billie out of his life, a push Billie refuses to accept.

The relationship between Billie and Brett is one of insta-lust. Billie is a bit of a football fanatic, a statistics savant-of a sorts-and her attraction and knowledge of Brett is visceral and immediate. Brett sees something in Billie that calls to his heart but Billie’s past threatens any hope of a happily ever after, and threats of a different kind take aim at our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and charismatic secondary and supporting characters including Billie’s ‘adopted’ support system, Brett’s broken family, his teammates as well as local law enforcement, all of whom play a significant role in our couple’s lives.

MY ANTI-HERO is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, madness and murder, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing, suspenseful, twisted and dramatic; the romance is seductive ; the characters are desperate and dynamic.
