Review:

Midnight by Sharon Sala is the 2nd book in her Crosswoods series. The story starts off with a robbery, that involved Brenda Kingston, who was having an affair with Pete Brant.  Pete told Brenda to hide the money inside her house in the basement.  In fear, Brenda ended up killing herself, and Pete Brant was sentence to jail.  Now 21 years later, Pete Brant died in prison, and his two sons are determined to find the missing money.

Asher Kingston, who is 32 years old, is an investigator for the State Attorney General in Austin. He receives a phone call from the police that his father was shot, and in serious condition.  He learns from Pearl, who managed to find Jacob, and calls for emergency help, keeping him alive.  

Gunner Kingston, who is 27 years old, is a homicide detective in Dallas, Texas; Gunner flies’ home to help. Dylan Kingston, who is 29 years old, lives in Austin and is engaged to Angie.  Nora Borden returns home to Crossroads to sell and clean her family’s home. Asher’s girlfriend from high school, runs into him and they rekindle their love. Nora helps Asher, as well as Gunner and Dylan to help her knowledge of IT.   

The Brant boys, Everett and Freddie, are determined to find the money (1 Million) somewhere inside the basement.  Everett was the one who shot Jacob, and they tried to hide their identity, hoping Jacob would die. Gunner, Asher and Dylan are quietly trying to see who the culprits are, until they discover their identity.  All three of them decided to look in the basement, where they finally found the money.  The FBI is called, and the family helps the FBI to manage to take the money.  The local police chief will work with the Kingston boys as they will lay traps to capture Everett & Freddie.

What follows is that Jacob will recover, and he will know that Pearl was the perfect person for him.  Asher and Nora are very much in love, and she will move to Austin, after selling her family home. Dylan and Angie get married, and Gunner returns to Dallas, as he is a great detective. 

Midnight was a terrific, intense and love story, especially with the Kingston family. I really enjoyed this story, with so much going on.  Midnight was so very well written by Sharon Sala.  Great story that held my attention throughout.

REVIEW:I’ve consumed many books by Laramie Briscoe, but Somethin’ Fierce lives up to its name. Be mindful of the triggers warnings with this book, while the characters are amazing, there are many things that could possibly trigger readers.

Paisley and Chase meet when both of them are at the end of their robes, both have lost so much and both need something to intervene in their life to save them. When Paisley is drowning in the suffering she feels, she calls 911 and Chase rushes to find her and talk her off the edge. This is where their story begins. Chase convinces Paisley to return home with him and then together they get stranded due to an oncoming storm. As time slowly ticks by, they learn that they must move on from their past and look towards the future together. The only catch? Neither of them knows where to start.

These characters were very relatable, Chase is a closed off alpha in so many ways. While he may still be battling his own demons, he makes Paisley a priority. Their relationship is slow built, both again still healing from trauma, but it’s their slow burn understanding that makes the book feel as emotionally draining as it is. They both have suffered such tragedy, but together they find a way to move forward and love again. Truly moving story.

Each of the books in this series can be read as complete standalones, they do not interconnect, they merely share a theme. In First Class Fling we meet Santiago and Rosa, they have an insta-love connection and embark on a journey that feeds their souls and their bellies.

Rosa is a chef, renowned for her recipes and attention to details, when her family stages a much needed vacation for her in the form of an intervention, Rosa goes along with it, no fight left in her to give. The city of Barcelona, good food, good rest, nothing but rest and relaxation, until she meets a certain dark eyed sommelier who sets her life and heart ablaze.

Santiago is looking for a slower pace of life, with the way he has been living, his fast pace life is becoming more and more exhausting, he is enjoying things less and less. When he meets Rosa on the plane to Barcelona, their meet-cute sparks something in him that he has never felt. Not to mention, he knows who she is and what she does for a living. Rosa and Santiago are both workaholics who have lost their passion for things that they love, and needed a reminder of a slower way of life. He saw that in her, just like she saw that in him, they each needed reminding of why they love good food and good people. Burn out is so real in this day and age, no matter the life you lead, we all need a reminder to slow down and enjoy the chaos of life once in a while. Kaylene gave her readers a lovely reminder to take a breath and drink the wine now again.

REVIEW: MORBID is the ninth instalment in Elizabeth Knox’s contemporary, adult RAIDERS OF VALHALLA MC: NEW BLOOD dark, erotic, MC romance series, a spin off set in the RAIDERS OF VALHALLA MC world co-authored by Elizabeth Knox and EC Land. This is Gunnar Sigmarr, and masseuse Ingrid’s story line. MORBID can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary, Ingrid is the daughter of VP Fenrir and Charm (Malicious #1); Gunnar is the son of Vail and Vanir (Menacing # 5).

Told from dual first person perspectives (Gunnar and Ingrid) MORBID follows the building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Gunnar and Ingrid grew up together, a second generation in the Raiders of Valhalla MC but Ingrid struggles with issues of low self esteem, refusing to accept that Gunnar is anything more than a lifelong friend. As the MC goes in search of a child trafficking ring, Ingrid finds herself targeted in the name of vengeance and power. Refusing to let Ingrid wallow in self-pity, Gunnar takes control, promising forever but forever may not be on our hero’s agenda.

The world building follows several interconnected paths as the MC go in search of those unable to protect themselves but the closer to uncovering the people involved, Gunnar and Ingrid find themselves targets, fighting for their lives.

The relationship between Ingrid and Gunnar is a best friends to lovers but Ingrid battles between head and heart, believing she is unworthy of her own happily ever after. Reinforced by those she once thought of as friends. Having been thrown to side too many times, Ingrid continues to have issues of trust, including trust in the man who promised forever. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Ingrid’s parents VP Fenrir and Charm , and Gunnar’s parents Vail and Vanir. The requisite evil has many faces.

MORBID is a story of betrayal and vengeance, dysfunctional and critical friendships, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The characters driven premise is dramatic, dark and edgy; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are struggling, healing , determined and desperate.
