REVIEW: PERFECT FLING is the second instalment in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult SERENDIPITY’S FINEST erotic, romance series focusing on the small town of Serendipity, New York- a spin off from the author’s Serendipity Series. This is undercover detective Cole Sanders, and DA Erin Marsden’s story line. PERFECT FLING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary.

Told from omniscient dual third person perspectives (Cole and Erin) PERFECT FLING follows in the wake of a one-night stand between our leading couple. Cole Sanders return home to Serendipity New York involved a night spent with the woman that called to his heart but Erin, more or less, ghosted Cole the next morning, and three months later, a gunman would take aim at our story line heroine. Cole would quickly discover that Erin was pregnant with his child, and in the ensuing aftermath became guardian and protector of the woman he loved but Cole’s past was determined to destroy our story line heroine, and Cole and the first responders of Serendipity would have to work overtime to take down the person responsible. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Erin and Cole, and the potential fall-out as Erin presumes Cole’s time in Serendipity comes with a deadline, when Cole is determined to claim the woman he loves.

The world building focuses on the protection of Erin Marsden, and the search for the person responsible for targeting our story line heroine. Erin struggles with Cole’s demands and need to protect her at all time, and Cole battles with staying in Serendipity, or returning to the job that is trying to destroy the woman he loves.

The relationship between Cole and Erin begins as a one-night stand. Cole’s father was/is best friends with Erin’s father, having worked together in law enforcement but Cole struggles to accept his father for past mistakes, and Erin battles between head and heart believing Cole is only in town for a very short time. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Erin’s brother Sam, and Michael and his wife Cara; Erin’s parents; Cole’s father Jed, and Erin’s boss Evan Carmichael.

PERFECT FLING is a story of obsession and mental illness; power and control; family and friendships, acceptance and love. The premise is impassioned and dramatic; the characters are enthusiastic and energetic; the romance is seductive and fated.
