It started as a game.
We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.
Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose.
…And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.
He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.

So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren’t supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.

What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.

*This book contains characters from the Manwhore series but can be read as a complete standalone.

REVIEW: PLAYBOY is the fifth instalment in Katy Evans’ contemporary, adult MANWHORE erotic, romance series focusing on a tight knit group of friends. This is professional poker player Cullen Carmichael, and thirty-year old, gallery owner Wynn Watson’s story line. PLAYBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person points of view (Wynn and Cullen) PLAYBOY follows the building relationship between professional poker player Cullen Carmichael, and thirty-year old, gallery owner Wynn Watson. An illegal, underground poker game finds Wynn Watson the ultimate prize when her date loses everything to poker player Cullen Carmichael including our story line heroine. Currently in a slump on the professional circuit Cullen’s losing streak comes to an end with Wynn Watson at his side. Hoping to keep his run of good luck, Cullen makes Wynn an offer she cannot refuse as he embarks on the qualifying rounds for a showdown in Vegas. What ensues is the building relationship between Cullen and Wynn, and the potential fall-out as Wynn struggles between head and heart, and her inability to look past Cullen’s questionable profession.

Cullen has wanted Wynn for a very long time but Wynn was in a relationship, and Cullen has no plans to become the ‘other man’. With the nickname ‘Playboy’ on the professional circuit, Cullen’s reputation with the ladies precedes his introduction to our story line heroine, a heroine who is well aware of the man at her side. Discovering Wynn to be his ‘good luck charm’ Cullen is desperate to keep our heroine by his side.

The relationship between Cullen and Wynn is based upon multiple bets, and an on-going game of winner takes all. Every action is measured by win, lose or draw but the ultimate loss comes in the form of a potential broken heart when the relationship becomes something more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting players who figure prominently in Cullen and Wynn’s life including all of the previous story line couples, as well as Cullen’s brother Callan and Wynn’s best friend Olivia (Womanizer #4). We are introduced to a number of players on the professional poker tour, one of whom is about to change the direction of Cullen’s life.

PLAYBOY is a fun and flirty story with sassy and sexy characters that reads a little bit like ‘Indecent Proposal’. Cullen offers Wynn everything she could every have imagined, an exchange that could have felt business-like but came with good intentions, from the heart. The character driven premise is realistic and spirited; the romance is tender, erotic and intense; the characters are charismatic and feisty. PLAYBOY is a sizzling and suggestive story from the pen of Katy Evans.

“So you just kissed me because you wanted to.” I speak on a breath.
“Very good. You’re perceptive. Intuitive.”
I realize he’s teasing me in that low, terribly rumbly voice and I wish he would smile at me.
He takes my hand and fingers my palm with his thumb as he leads me to our suite.
I’m sizzling where he touches me, nervously prying my hand free when he leads me into the biggest, most spectacular two-bedroom penthouse suite I’ve ever seen. Not that I’d seen one before in person, only movies.
There’s a kitchen area, and windows from floor to ceiling. A living room, a pool table, gold brass chandeliers, a brown-and-beige-patterned carpet, dark woods, Italian leathers. Gorgeous! I could move in here.
Now I see the appeal but won’t admit as much.
Thinking of our bet, I pay attention to the art on the walls. It’s expensive. I can tell by the numbered print and the signature. Painters with indecipherable and artistic signatures are often the artists to watch. It’s like they know from the moment they paint their first work that they’re on to something big, something that will distinguish their work from all others.
I wish Cullen loved art as much as I do. Maybe I could drag him away from the tables to a local gallery.
“Wow. I could just live he—” I spin around and bump into his big warm body, and he bends his head and kisses my words right out of me.
Kisses me stupid. Kisses my toes curled. Kisses my brain blank. Kisses my heart crazy.
