Prophecy Girl by Cecily White is her first book in her YA Angel Academy trilogy.  The premise of a young girl attending an Academy of children born from angels, who are considered Guardians in training.  Ami is our heroine, and she is Lucifer’s daughter.

Ami spends her nights with her best friend Lisa, looking for demons for their training practice.  Lisa keeps bugging her to get herself a date for the upcoming dance, much to Ami annoyance, as she is not interested in any of the boys at the academy.  But that changes the moment she meets Jackson (Jack), the new head trainer, whom she immediately finds herself attracted to, and feels the sparks.  Jack tries to keep his distance from Ami, not explaining why, but his avoidance seems to be based on fear.

Cecily White has a created a great character in Ami, who is funny, sarcastic, independent,  and simply fun to follow in this exciting story.  Jack turns out to be an excellent character also, and meant for Ami, but destiny will rise up and keep the two apart.  But Ami is not one to step back, and she is determined to win Jack.  What she doesn’t know, is she is dangerous to him.  But that will not stop either of them to connect.

The story involves a prophecy that Ami is destined to fill, and Jack could be in danger.  We follow the two of them on an adventure that has them on the run, and their friends protecting them.  We get to meet some cool characters, like the kids at the academy or Jack’s friends, such as a vampire and a werewolf.  Though this was a fun read, make no mistake, it is exciting story, filled with danger, lots of battles, twists, surprises along the way, with lives in danger of being lost.

Will Ami fulfill the prophecy that she so does not want to do?  Will Jack protect Ami, or will he die doing so?  Who will survive the final battle?  So many questions, and since this is spoiler free, you need to read this book to find the answers.  Early on, it was a bit slow, as we meet Ami and Lisa, but quickly it became a fun read. The story took a major turn in the last 1/3 of the book, and I was unable to put it down, since a blink could cause you to lose another revelation.   Cecily White has done a fantastic job with this book, her characters are refreshing and you find yourself liking most of them.  I look forward to the next book of this series.

  1. I read a little of YA, like Twilight, The Hunger Games. This one looks different, and I think I will give this one a shot. Thanks for the great review, Barb
