RAPTURE’S EDGE (Night Prowler #3) by J.T.Geissinger

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 18, 2013

SECRETS…In the hidden world that exists beside our own, a mirror world of ancient magic and elegant deceptions, a world of people who are so much more than they first appear, a war is brewing. Most of these Gifted people—the Ikati, a savage, sensual race of lethal predators—are content to hide behind human smiles, disguising their splendor in order to survive. But others are discontent. And they will hide no longer.

BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on the man who killed her father and seeing her father’s dream of living in the open with humans come to pass. But that dream is far too dangerous for The Hunt, a group of elite Ikati assassins with one objective: eliminate her before she can expose their secrets to the world.

SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

REVIEW: Rapture’s Edge is the third storyline in J.T.Geissinger’s paranormal Night Prowler series focusing on the men and women of the Ikati- a race of panther like shape shifters. This is Eliana and Demetrius’s story.

At the end of book two –Edge of Oblivion-Eliana was on the run. Her father, unbeknownst to her, was a traitor to the Ikati people and her last image was of the man she once loved- Demetrius- holding a knife over the bloody body of her murdered father. Fast forward three years and Eliana is now a strong, independent woman and an international art thief. Trained for battle, Eliana will find herself on the receiving end of a take down that will see a death sentence for betrayal and crimes against the Ikati. Iliana is presumed guilty by association-she is her father’s daughter. Only Iliana is not aware of her father’s treason and her brother’s future plans.

Enter Demetrius-Demetrius has been searching for the woman that he loves for three years. She is of the mistaken belief that he murdered her father-a man who has betrayed the Ikati-murdering and persecuting innocent humans and hybrids for years. Demetrius only knows one thing-he needs to find Iliana; his mind, his heart and his soul demand that he finds his mate before he takes out everyone within his reach.

The storyline is slow to build as J.T. jumps between Iliana and Demetrius’s backstory and current situations-which are detailed and necessary to the plot. The reader is introduced to Iliana’s new family of underground runners hoping to establish a new colony of those who have been unhappy with the current Ikati controlling powers. Let us hope there are a few storylines among her friends. They want to live free among the humans and are amassing money and weapons-although why would those who want to live free need guns? Betrayal runs deep within the outcasts and Iliana will soon learn that she has been used by those she calls friends and family. This was never about living with the humans, but power and control.

The storyline gathers momentum once Iliana and Demetrius are reunited. There is plenty of push and pull-Iliana believing Demetrius is guilty of murder and Demetrius struggling to keep Iliana safe. The romance is sensual, hot and not unexpected. Iliana must learn to trust the man in whom she once loved and rebuilding of their relationship is undermining her long term goals. J.T. gathers many of the previous storyline characters including the Ikati Queen Jenna and her mate and, the warriors who support Demetrius at every chance.

RAPTURE’S EDGE is a well written, fascinating albeit slow to build storyline. It is a story of one family’s betrayal and heartache; of guilt and innocence; of love and hate. I have read the series from the start and Demetrius and Eliana’s story is a surprise but definitely not unexpected following the end of Edge of Oblivion. I have to wonder what occurred with the others during the three year interval between Edge of Oblivion and Rapture’s Edge. Perhaps there are more parallel storylines (or novellas) that will clear up some of the missing timeline.
