REVIEW:SHATTERED PRINCE is the second instalment in B.B. Hamel’s contemporary, adult DARK MAFIA ROMANCE series-a spin off from the author’s THE OLIGARCHS series. This is Texas Mafioso Don Carmine Falsone, and cartel princess Julieta ‘Jules’ Suarez’s story line. SHATTERED PRINCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading book one BITTER PLEDGE for back story; some of the characters from The Oligarchs cross over for cohesion and familiarity.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Carmine and Jules) SHATTERED PRINCE follows cartel princess Julieta ‘Jules’ Suarez as she attends her first year of college in San Antonio, Texas. Hired to ‘guard’ the cartel princess, Mafia Don Carmine Falsone finds himself falling for a woman who may be as broken as our story line hero but Jules’ past is about to catch up to our story line heroine, when vengeance and blackmail force Jules to betray the man with whom she is falling in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jules and Carmine, and the potential fall-out as past sins come full circle, revealing secrets and lies.

Jules Suarez is the only survivor of an attack years before but a survivor who battles the daily pain and suffering of what happened and why. Carmine Falsone is desperate for revenge against the person who destroyed his life but revenge comes at a cost to everyone involved.Hoping to rebuild the Falsone crime family, Carmine finds himself working from the bottom up.

The relationship between Jules and Carmine begins as guardian and ward. Carmine Falsone struggles with his attraction to a woman whose father could destroy our story line hero but Jules is more worried about past sins destroying the people she loves. Blackmailed and bruised, Jules must come to a decision to reveal the truth. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Capri and Mal (Bitter Pledge 1), as well as Oligarchs Maxim, Nervosa and Roman; Smierc Gang leader Cezary; crime lord Mauro Balestra, and Julieta’s father Alejandro Suarez, and Jule’s bodyguard Oscar.

SHATTERED PRINCE is a story of secrets and lies, family, power and control, obsession and addiction, friendships and love. The premise is dark, gritty, dramatic and intense; the romance is captivating and seductive; the characters are broken, powerful and dynamic.
