Review:

Stolen Time by Angela Rae Harris is the start of her The Time Series, and is a novella.  Stolen Time is also Harris’s debut novel.  The general (main bad guy) is a real nasty piece of work, he is a master manipulator.

The heroine starts out as a real shy girl. Her boyfriend is totally into her, and she seems a little skittish, but Keaira is very wary, and we find out why throughout the book. I love the twists throughout the book.

Hmmmmm !!!!  There are a few points of view, and it does get tend to get a little confusing, but pretty quickly, you start to get the hang of it.  I liked this story, even if it was a little jumpy at times. I’m hoping for more books in the series, as I think it has great potential.  But it needed a bit more !!!

I also think it is a great read for young adults, with a great twist on a genre I love.  I just discovered that the first full novel will be released in the spring of 2014, Present Thought.  Looking forward to seeing where Harris will take us in that book.

Idea behind Stolen Time

It all started with the birth mark I have on my arm.  I’ve always thought it looked like a paw, one big circle and three smaller ones above it. If I could have a superpower, being a shifter would be at the top of my list. I was never sure what animal, although, it had to be a cat because that is what my birth mark reminded me of.

About eighteen months ago Carson, and the idea behind Stolen Time, visited me in my sleep.

That made me think, “What if the mark meant something?”

When Carson’s ability came to me and he shifted into a mountain lion, everything connected. To think that there are people out there with the capability to turn into an animal at will, intrigued me.

Carson visited me every night for weeks. I was losing sleep. With two little ones that go non-stop during the day, sleep was a valuable thing for me. I started to write down the stories that Carson was acting out when I was supposed to be getting some shut eye.

I kept telling myself that I wasn’t an author. I just needed to ignore my ideas and try to sleep. That worked. Eventually I sat down at my computer and typed the ideas that filled my head. It wasn’t organized, just a jumbled mess of scenes and character descriptions. Using that, I wrote my first chapter and I had the best night of sleep in months.

The story wanted to be told and after a few months of sound slumber, the night time visits started up again. I had to sit at my computer and write again. In a sense, I write so that I can sleep.

You never know where your ideas will come from. When you choose listen to it, wonderful things can happen.

Now if only I could figure out how to get my three year old to sleep through the night.

Thank you for having me!

  1. Nice review, Julie. A novella is always hard to write reviews, as it is short. You show you enjoyed it, as you are looking forward to the novel. Wonderful Guest Post by Angela.
