ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 10, 2016

Norma Anders has always prided herself on her intelligence and determination. She climbed out of poverty, put herself through school and is now a chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries. She’s certainly a woman who won’t be topped. Not in business anyway.

But she’s pretty sure she’d like to be topped in the bedroom.

Unfortunately most men see independence and ambition in a woman and they run. Even her dominant boss, Hudson Pierce has turned down her advances, leaving her to fear that she will never find the lover she’s longing for.

Then the most unlikely candidate steps up. Boyd, her much-too-young and oh-so-hot assistant surprises her one night with bold suggestions and an authoritative demeanor he’s never shown her in the office.

It’s a bad idea…such a deliciously bad idea…but when Boyd takes the reins and leads her to sensual bliss she’s never known, the headstrong Norma can’t help but fall under his command.

•••••••••

REVIEW:  FALLING UNDER YOU (Fixed 4.5) by Laurelin Paige is an adult, contemporary, erotic romance novella found in the world of 1001 Dark Nights multi-authored series. This is chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries Norma Anders, and PA Boyd Barrett’s story line. FALLING UNDER YOU runs parallel to the events in Laurelin’s FIXED series, and the FOUND DUET, and can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary. FALLING UNDER YOU covers approximately 2-3 years in story line time.

Told from first person point of view (Norma) FALLING UNDER YOU is an erotic story line that focuses on a forbidden romance between office colleagues-a romance predicated on Domination and submission. Norma Anders is a successful business woman; a take charge CFA for Pierce Industries, and a woman who has fallen for her boss Pierce Hudson. Enter Boyd Barrett, Norma’s PA, and the man who will take charge and dominate Norma in the bedroom and in love. What ensues is a ‘secret affair’ between Norma and Boyd- a relationship that finds our heroine submitting to a man she ‘dominates’ at work.

FALLING UNDER is a story line that crosses over between Laurelin’s FIXED trilogy, and her FOUND DUET. Norma is Gwen’s sister (Found Duet), and is in desperate need of stepping back from her life. Throughout the original series the author hints at Norma’s possible relationship with Boyd, but we are never privy to the intimate details or the nature of the D/s exchange. At times, the story line advances several months in which we do not have access to the building relationship and in this I struggled with the lack of details as to their building love-for all intents and purposes, the story focused on the D/s exchange skipping most everything else in their personal lives. The premise is entertaining and provocative; the characters are captivating and charismatic; the romance is seductive, erotic and intense. If you are a fan of Paige’s FIXED TRILOGY and the FOUND DUET, FALLING UNDER YOU should not be missed.

Falling Under You Teaser

Excerpt

I pushed the door open and stepped onto the rooftop, grateful for the empty landscape if not for the hot, muggy night. Escape. That’s what this was. A much-needed escape.
I walked over to the railing and looked down at the street below, but my attention was still on the scene I’d just left. The awkward, horribly embarrassing scene. I groaned out loud. I could still see the look on Hudson’s face when I’d cornered him in the hallway and kissed him. Could still hear the disdain in his voice as he’d pushed me away and said, “You don’t want what I have to give, Norma. Trust me.”
But I did want what he had to give. At least, I was pretty sure I did. After the disappointing series of men I’d dated who’d failed to satisfy me in the bedroom, I’d realized I craved a lover with the confident, powerful strength of a man like Hudson Pierce. A man who controlled and had authority over me in every way possible. I’d thought that he would be the one guy who could handle that I was a smart, successful woman without letting it intimidate him. As his chief financial advisor, I’d been his right hand “man” for years. Couldn’t I also be the perfect companion elsewhere? The potential of the power couple we could make was scary and thrilling all at once.
Apparently, he didn’t have the same vision.
My flaws ran through my mind like bullet points on a PowerPoint presentation.
Too old (thirty-four, which was only a digit off from thirty-five)
Too serious (how else did a woman get to where I was in the business world?)
Too independent (I didn’t depend on anyone for anything, though I’d prefer the real deal to my seven-inch battery-operated boyfriend)
Too…not blond (the most frequent hair color of the women I’d seen on Hudson’s arm)
I groaned again. Stupid, stupid, stupid. What the hell had I been thinking? Obviously, I hadn’t been. I couldn’t even blame my behavior on being drunk—though there was plenty of alcohol at the event downstairs, I’d touched nothing but water all evening. The party was meant to be a celebration. Pierce Industries had just closed its highest earning year ever, and I was a key player in that success. Silly me for thinking that a better way to celebrate would be to announce my infatuation with my boss instead of raising a toast like everyone else.
God, Monday was going to suck. How could I face Hudson without turning beet red with shame ever again?

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 8, 2015

The Hunter

For almost a century, the Realm’s most deadly assassin, Chalton Reese, has left war and death in the past, turning instead to strategy, reason, and technology. His fingers, still stained with blood, now protect with a keyboard instead of a weapon. Until the vampire king sends him on one more mission; to hunt down a human female with the knowledge to destroy the Realm. A woman with eyes like emeralds, a brain to match his own, and a passion that might destroy them both—if the enemy on their heels doesn’t do so first.

The Hunted

Olivia Roberts has foregone relationships with wimpy metro-sexuals in favor of pursuing a good story, bound and determined to uncover the truth, any truth. When her instincts start humming about missing proprietary information, she has no idea her search for a story will lead her to a ripped, sexy, and dangerous male beyond any human man. Setting aside the unbelievable fact that he’s a vampire and she’s his prey, she discovers that trusting him is the only chance they have to survive the danger stalking them both.

••••••••••

REVIEW: TEASED, a paranormal romance storyline by Rebecca Zanetti, is the latest entry into the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights novella series, as well as Rebecca’s DARK PROTECTORS series. This is Realm assassin Chalton Reese, and journalist Olivia Roberts’ storyline. TEASED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Chalton and Olivia) TEASED follows Chalton’s hunt for the human female trying to ‘out’ the supernatural world. Chalton has been assigned, by King Dage Kayrs, to locate the woman responsible for releasing secret information about the possible existence of another species. What ensues is a cross country journey wherein Chalton realizes Olivia is his mate but not before the Kurjans, and Chalton’s brothers focus their sights on Olivia, as well.

TEASED, like the name implies, is a little tease involving Rebecca Zanetti’s world of the Dark Protectors. With the introduction of Chalton’s two brothers, there is the potential for two more storylines (perhaps novellas) especially one that may involve Chalton’s brother Jared, and Olivia’s best friend Ronni. Ronni is dying, and Olivia is hoping to save her BFF anyway she can.

Rebecca Zanetti pulls the reader into a fast paced, suspense filled, action packed novella that sees another vampire finding his mate. There is a little bit of sex, humor, fear, and the push and pull that only Rebecca writes with dueling mates. The familiarity and connection to the original series comes with the cameo appearance of King Dage and his mate Emma. The premise is entertaining and intense; the characters are fun and charismatic; the romance and $ex is a quick build to a happily ever after-but then again, in Rebecca’s world of the vampire falling in love is always immediate and fierce. TEASED is a welcome addition to the Dark Protector series.

excerpt

What in the world was she doing? She’d just agreed to have sex with a vampire. In fact, forget the guy was a vampire. She’d just agreed to get naked and horizontal with the sexiest and probably the most dangerous man she’d ever met.
They did it horizontally, right?
“Why?” he asked, tossing the belt over his shoulder and moving toward her.
The scent of man and the warmth of male washed over her. “I want to.” Sometimes life was as simple as that. Plus, her curiosity had gotten her far in life, and she just couldn’t turn it off. “Do we really have to have an in-depth conversation about this?” Geez. Kiss her already.
“No. Just making sure this is what you want.” He lifted her against his torso, turning to stride toward the bathroom.
“You’re strong,” she said breathlessly, grabbing his very bare chest for balance.
He grinned. “You’re a lightweight, sweetheart.”
She scoffed. “Not even close.” Did she really want to get naked with such male perfection? Nobody had ever called her petite. Or small. Or fit. “Wait. I’m not—”
Then his mouth was on hers.
Hot and deep, he commandeered her lips, sending her senses spiraling. She moaned low in her throat and kissed him back, or rather followed his lead.
Still kissing her, he somehow reached into the shower and flipped on the water. Slowly, keeping her pressed against his muscled body, he allowed her to slide down him until her feet settled on the smooth tile.
She broke the kiss, her mind turning to mush, her breath panting out. A sense way too sharp to be desire sliced through her, making her want him with a craving that should give her pause. But it was too late to pause.
The look in his eyes was pure lust…and it was for her. He wanted her…all of her.
Drawing courage from that look, she reached for the hem of her dress and yanked it over her head.
The sound he made, low and guttural, vibrated through her body to land between her legs. “Beautiful,” he murmured…

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 22, 2015

After identifying her employer’s dangerous enemies, Jessica Jakes takes refuge at the compound of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Fellow Hard Ink tattooist and Raven leader Ike Young promises to keep Jess safe for as long as it takes, which would be perfect if his close, personal, round-the-clock protection didn’t make it so hard to hide just how much she wants him—and always has.

Ike Young loved and lost a woman in trouble once before. The last thing he needs is alone time with the sexiest and feistiest woman he’s ever known, one he’s purposely kept at a distance for years. Now, Ike’s not sure he can keep his hands or his heart to himself—or that he even wants to anymore. And that means he has to do whatever it takes to hold on to Jess forever.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: HARD AS STEEL is the latest novella in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series, as well as Laura Kaye’s erotic, romantic HARD INK suspense series focusing on the men and women of Hard Ink Tattoo. This is tattoo artist Jessica Jakes, and Raven Riders MC leader/tattooist Ike Young. HARD AS STEEL is also the first storyline that introduces the characters for Laura Kaye’s new RAVEN RIDERS MC series-a 2016 spin off/cross over from her Hard Ink series.

Told from dual third person perspective HARD AS STEEL runs parallel to some of the events in Laura Kaye’s HARD TO LET GO (Hark Ink #4) that finds our heroine on the run when she is targeted by the same people out to destroy the ex Special Forces soldiers (of Hard Ink) trying to prove their innocence in an Afghanistan military operation that went horribly wrong. Jessica needs help when she inadvertently becomes entangled with one of the men out to destroy the soldiers, so our heroine calls Ike Young, her co-worker and best friend to help hide her until the danger passes. What ensues is a sexual relationship between Jessica and Ike wherein Ike begins to push Jessica away when ghosts from the past continue to control his present. Jessica and Ike’s relationship has been developing for a couple of instalments and HARD AS STEEL bridges the old with the new. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense. Ike and Jessica like to play a little rough in the bedroom.

HARD AS STEEL introduces a number of potential players in Laura Kaye’s 2016 RAVEN RIDERS MC series. The Raven Riders MC members have played a small role throughout the Hard Ink series, and with the release of HARD AS STEEL Laura Kaye will begin to focus on the bikers and the women they love. In HARD AS STEEL there is limited character cross over between the two series-any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the characters are colourful, charismatic and familiar; the romance is hot and spicy. I am looking forward to Laura Kaye’s new RAVEN RIDERS MC series-there is plenty of room for some dark and dangerous bikers who are a little rough around the edges.

Dragon King -A Dark Kings Novella (1001 Dark Nights) by Donna Grant-a review

DRAGON KING-A Dark Kings Novella (1001 Dark Nights) by Donna Grant-a review

Dragon King

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 25, 2015

A Woman on a Mission

Grace Clark has always done things safe. She’s never colored outside of the law, but she has a book due and has found the perfect spot to break through her writer’s block. Or so she thinks. Right up until Arian suddenly appears and tries to force her away from the mountain. Unaware of the war she just stumbled into, Grace doesn’t just discover the perfect place to write, she finds Arian—the most gorgeous, enticing, mysterious man she’s ever met.

A King with a Purpose

Arian is a Dragon King who has slept away centuries in his cave. Recently woken, he’s about to leave his mountain to join his brethren in a war when he’s alerted that someone has crossed onto Dreagan. He’s ready to fight . . . until he sees the woman. She’s innocent and mortal—and she sets his blood aflame. He recognizes the danger approaching her just as the dragon within him demands he claim her for his own.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: DRAGON KING by Donna Grant is the latest entry into the multi-authored 1001 DARK NIGHTS series as well as Donna’s Dark Kings paranormal, romance series focusing on the continuing struggle of the Dragon Kings and their one-time ally and friend King Ulrik. DRAGON KING is a novella that focuses on the awakening of Dragon King Arian as a war between the Dragons and Fae is on the horizon.

SOME BACKGROUND: Hundreds of years earlier the Dragon Kings were betrayed by Ulrik’s human female lover and in retaliation Con-the King of Kings- and the other Dragon Kings killed the woman who revealed the existence of the dragons to mankind. What ensued was the devastation of the dragon species, and a war between dragon and man. To contain Ulrik’s anger and vengeance for the death of the woman that he loved, the Dragon King’s locked away Ulrik’s magic, and sent Ulrik and his Silver Dragons to sleep. But Ulrik has awoken before his time, and with it comes an alliance with the Dark Fae as they set their sights on uncovering the location of a secret weapon known only to King Constantine with the potential to destroy all of the Dragon Kings.

DRAGON KING follows Grace Clark-a romance author and writer who lost her muse. Her publisher has offered Grace a three week extension but writer’s block continues to hamper Grace’s attempts at writing her story. A trip to Scotland finds Grace pulled towards the mountain where Dragon King Arian has recently awoken, and with it will come an immediate attraction to one another as Arian must defend the human female against the Dark Fae and King Con.

The relationship between Arian and Grace is quick to develop. Arian believes Grace is his mate but Con’s distrust of the human species finds Arian in an emotional battle with the King of Kings, and a struggle to let walk away the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scene is seduction and hot.

Several of the Dragon Kings play a secondary and supporting role; Ulrik’s presence is by way of mention; the Dark Fae continue to seek out the entrance to Dreagon in search of the elusive and secret weapon.

DRAGON KING is a welcome addition to the Dark Kings series; a quick read that sees another Dragon King finding his mate- the other half to his soul. Con continues to battle his hatred and distrust of humans-his anger and bitterness worsens as the Dragon Kings find their mates from within the human population. Donna Grant’s DARK KING series is a must read; I love the supernatural world of the Dragon Kings and the women whom they love.

Ravaged

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk /

ABOUT THE BOOK: June 9, 2015

Ari—Once an Eternal Guardian, now he’s nothing but a rogue mercenary with one singular focus: revenge.

His guardian brothers all think he’s dead, but Ari is very much alive in the human realm, chipping away at Zeus’s Sirens every chance he can, reveling in his brutality and anonymity. Until, that is, he abducts the wrong female and his identity is finally exposed. It will take more than the Eternal Guardians, more even than the gods to rein Ari in after everything he’s done. It may just take the courage of one woman willing to stand up to a warrior who’s become a savage.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: RAVAGED (Eternal Guardians 7.5) by Elisabeth Naughton is the latest installment in the 1001 Dark Nights novella series. This is rogue Argonaut warrior Ari (Aristokles), and nymph Daphne’s storyline. Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardians paranormal romance, fantasy series is based in Greek mythology, prophecy and history.

RAVAGED follows Daphne, a Siren in training, who has been tasked, by Zeus, to kill Aristokles. Ari currently lives in the human realm, and the stories reveal that Ari is a monster; a dark and dangerous rogue Argonaut, who out of revenge and grief following the murder of his first mate, tortures and kills the creatures responsible for her death-the Sirens. Daphne, not quite a Siren, must seduce and destroy Aristokles before she is allowed entry in the Siren caste. What ensues is the building relationship between Ari and Daphne, and the revelation that Ari’s acts of murder and destruction are not of his making.

Fifty years earlier, Ari faked his own death, leaving his son Cerek, and the other Argonauts to grieve the loss of their father and friend. But Ari’s disappearance was self-imposed as he was unable to control the need to kill the Sirens whenever they were in his presence. Daphne’s presence will help Ari focus on the need, and with her help, Ari and Daphne will uncover the truth behind Ari’s uncontrolled murderous rage.

Although a novella, RAVAGED, is a complete story: we learn about Daphne’s background, Ari’s history, and the gods of Olympus who play with the fates of man and beast. Several of the Argonauts make a cameo appearance including their leader Theron, as well as Argonauts Demetrius, Gryphon, Phineus and Titus. Half Breed ‘Misos’ Silas is introduced as Ari’s friend and ‘roommate’; and Daphne’s friend and Siren Sappheire, whose own understanding of the truth, finds another Siren in the human realm.

Elisabeth Naughton seamlessly blends Greek mythology with a modern timeline. There is romance and passion; betrayal and revenge; grieving and death. The characters are a mix of man and gods; daemons and beasts; Sirens, nymphs and Fates. Their stories are heartbreaking, passionate, and exciting. There is always a happily ever after-for now-because, well, Zeus always has another plan to create destruction and chaos, in the world of man.

REVIEW:

FROM THE PUBLISHER: 1001 Dark Nights is inspired by The Arabian Nights: Tales from 1001 Nights. In the original Scheherazade desperately attempts to entertain her husband, the King of Persia, with nightly stories so that he will postpone her execution. This series is a spin on the premise and creating new stories that a new Scheherazade might tell. A mix of sexy and romantic, paranormal and erotic. One novella will be published each month starting January 2014.

~~

CARESS OF DARKNESS is the introductory novella in J.Kenner’s contemporary, adult, erotic romance Dark Pleasures, fantasy/paranormal series published as part of the 1001 Dark Nights series. This is Raine Engel and Callie Sinclair’s storyline- a story of insta love that crosses dimensions, worlds and centuries.

Told from first person (Callie) and third person points of view, the novella will begin to familiarize the reader with some of the background information about the exclusive Dark Pleasures Club and the Phoenix Brotherhood- a group of immortal warriors and hunters whose mission it is to find a powerful amulet that will allow the immortals to cross between the dimensions. But there is always the requisite evil and in this the ‘fuerie’ will be searching for the amulet as well.

We will be introduced to Raine’s fellow members in the Phoenix Brotherhood-Dante, Mal, Liam and his mate Jessica. The Phoenix is a bird that rose from the ashes and in this the symbolism is a reflection of the Brotherhood and their gift of immortal life.

Because CARESS OF DARKNESS is an introductory novella I felt like some important information and background history is still missing –almost a loss of cohesion to the premise. The story focuses on the quickly building relationship between Callie and Raine -an erotic alliance that brings together the past with the present but a bit of a distraction to the overall story; Callie’s emotional well being and fragility; and the cryptic messages left behind by her ailing father pointing to a connection between Callie and Raine..

But I can’t get the words out, and I feel the tears snaking down my cheeks, and dammit, dammit, dammit, I do not want to lose it in front of this man—this stranger who doesn’t feel like a stranger.
And then his grip on my shoulders tightens and he leans toward me.
And then—oh, dear god—his lips are on mine and they are as warm and soft as I’d imagined and he’s kissing me so gently and so sweetly that all my worries are just melting away and I’m limp in his arms.
“Shhh. It’s okay.” His voice washes over me, as gentle and calming as a summer rain. “Everything’s going to be okay.”
I breathe deep, soothed by the warm sensuality of this stranger’s golden voice. Except he isn’t a stranger. I may not have not met him before today, but somehow, here in his arms, I know him.
And that, more than anything, comforts me.
Calmer, I tilt my head back and meet his eyes. It is a soft moment and a little sweet—but it doesn’t stay that way. It changes in the space of a glance. In the instant of a heartbeat. And what started out as gentle comfort transforms into fiery heat.
I don’t know which of us moves first. All I know is that I have to claim him and be claimed by him. That I have to taste him—consume him. Because in some essential way that I don’t fully understand, I know that only this man can quell the need burning inside me, and I lose myself in the hot intensity of his mouth upon mine. Of his tongue demanding entrance, and his lips, hard and demanding, forcing me to give everything he wants to take.
I am limp against him, felled by the onslaught of erotic sparks that his kisses have scattered through me. I am lost in the sensation of his hands stroking my back. Of his chest pressed against my breasts.
But it isn’t until I realize that he has pulled me into his lap and that I can feel the hard demand of his erection against my rear that I force myself to escape this sensual reality and scramble backward out of his embrace.
“I’m sorry,” I say, my breath coming too hard.
“Callie—“ The need I hear in his voice reflects my own, and I clench my hands into fists as I fight against the instinct to move back into his arms.
“No.” I don’t understand what’s happening—this instant heat, like a match striking gasoline. I’ve never reacted to a man this way before. My skin feels prickly, as if I’ve been caught in a lightning storm. His scent is all over me. And the taste of him lingers on my mouth.
And oh, dear god, I’m wet, my body literally aching with need, with a primal desire for him to just rip my clothes off and take me right there on the hard, dusty floor.
He’s triggered a wildness in me that I don’t understand—and my reaction scares the hell out of me.
“You need to go,” I say, and I am astonished that my words are both measured and articulate, as if I’m simply announcing that it is closing time to a customer.
He stays silent, but I shake my head anyway, and hold up a finger as if in emphasis.
“No,” I say, in response to nothing. “I don’t know anything about this amulet. And now you really need to leave. Please,” I add. “Please, Raine. I need you to go.”
For a moment he only looks at me. Then he nods, a single tilt of his head in acknowledgment. “All right,” he says very softly. “I’ll go. But I’m not ever leaving you again.”
I stand frozen, as if his inexplicable words have locked me in place. He turns slowly and strides out of the shop without looking back. And when the door clicks into place behind him and I am once again alone, I gulp in air and feel the warm trickle of a tear as it snakes down my cheek.
I rub my hands over my face, forgiving myself for this emotional miasma because of all the shit that’s happened with my dad. Of course I’m a wreck; what daughter wouldn’t be?
Determined to get a grip, I follow his path to the door, then hold onto the knob. I’d come over intending to lock it. But now I have to fight the urge to yank it open and beg him to return.
It’s an urge I fight. It’s just my grief talking. My fear that I’m about to lose my father, the one person in all the world who is close to me, and so I have clung to a stranger in a desperate effort to hold fast to something.
That, at least, is what my shrink would say. You’re fabricating a connection in order to fill a void. It’s what you do, Callie. It’s what you’ve always done when lonely and afraid.
I nod, telling myself I agree with the voice in my head.
And I do.
Because I am lonely.
And I am afraid of losing my dad.
But that’s not the whole of it. Because there’s something else that I’m afraid of, too, though I cannot put my finger on it. A strange sense of something coming. Something dark. Something bad.
And what scares me most is the ridiculous, unreasonable fear that I have just pushed away the one person I need to survive whatever is waiting for me out there in the dark.
***
He wanted her.
When you got right down to it, that was the bottom line. Raine wanted Callie Sinclair. Craved her. Hungered for her.
Hell, he fucking yearned for her, and that was simply not a feeling he was used to having. Hadn’t been for a very, very long time.
Oh, sure, he’d gotten off often enough. Lost himself in a women. In the feel of her body against his. There was power in the claiming of a willing female, in that hard, rough ride that erased the world, at least for those few singular moments as the sensation built and climax approached.
And when the inevitable explosion came, he’d lose himself in the sharp oblivion that mimicked the death he sought again and again, and yet this death was forged in pleasure and not pain.
But that was all he wanted or needed—just that physical connection to remind him that no matter how dead he might feel on the inside—no matter how hard he chased that escape and no matter how many times he burned—this body still functioned and he still had a job to do.
Because if he could fuck, then he could fucking well survive another day, another year, another century.
Shit.
He ran his fingers over his close-cropped hair and told himself to get a grip. An ironic lecture since he stood like a criminal in the shadows across the street from Sinclair’s Antiques, his eyes trained on the now-locked door.
Thank goodness he’d dismissed Dennis, Phoenix Security’s driver, telling him to go ahead and simply be on call in case Raine needed him later. He hardly wanted to explain to the eager twenty-three year old why the hell he was standing like an idiot, waiting for just another glimpse of this women who’d gotten so deep under his skin.
Christ, he was pathetic. For millennia he’d not been distracted by a woman. Not since he’d lost Livia, his mate.
Oh, he’d fucked plenty, but that was to escape. Because even after all these centuries he still craved what he’d lost when she’d been ripped from him.
He’d loved her beyond all reckoning, and never once had he believed that he would ever feel that same connection with another female.
And yet this woman — Sinclair’s daughter — not only caught his attention, but sparked his awareness.
He told himself that he was simply attracted to her beauty. That he hadn’t brought a woman into his bed for over a year. A short time for a man such as him, but still too damn long.
He told himself that he just wanted to fuck her—but that wasn’t true at all.
He wanted to know her. He wanted to protect her.
He wanted have her.
And that’s why he was standing here in the dark.
That’s why he was watching her door.
And that’s why the moment she left the building, he was going to follow her—all the way to wherever the hell that might lead.

Lisa Renee Jones Play with Me Copyright 2014

“We need to talk,” he says, as if this is a casual event requiring nothing more than a chat, as if I’m not being treated like a felon.
“Talk?” I demand, all the emotions of hours of confinement rising up in me to near bursting. “We needed to talk seven hours ago. Now? Now we don’t need to talk.”
He steps forward, crowding me, forcing me to give him space or let him become a part of mine. I have a rare violent urge to shove him, but I retreat into the room instead. He steps closer and kicks the door shut behind him, and damn him, that delicious scent of him tickles my nose, and the teasing eruption of sensations in my body only serves to make me more angry. I don’t want to feel the way he makes me feel. I don’t want him to be the one man who sparks something in me that no one else does.
“I couldn’t call,” he has the audacity to say. “Just like I couldn’t tell you I knew we had a security breach when you told me what the computer was doing in my office.”
“So you knew what was happening and didn’t tell me?”
“There’s a procedure to—”
“I don’t give a damn about procedures, Mr. CEO, especially from the one who sets the rules I’ve suffered with.” The edginess in me results in me poking my finger at his chest, heat dashing up my arm. “Just tell me one thing. Am I free to leave?”
He looks down at my finger and then his gaze lifts, but there is no anger in his face. There is something else, something I can’t identify. “I got you cleared, but—”
Relief is instant, and I cut him off. “That’s all the talking you need to do.” I try to turn away, intending to gather my things, but he shackles my wrist, more heat ripping up my arm and over my chest.
“Let go,” I snarl, hating a man I barely know who has put me through hell. It’s like I’m a masochist. Why else would I be drawn to yet another powerful asshole?
His lips thin, and I wish I didn’t notice how sensual and perfect they are. “We have to talk.”
“No,” I assure him. “We do not.”
“We’re going to talk.”
“You aren’t my boss anymore, which translates to the end of all conversation.”
His eyes glint hard steel. “What does that mean, I’m not your boss anymore?”
“I quit. Find someone else to treat like crap.”
“I had no choice—”
“There’s always a choice. I just want out of here.”
“You’ll regret this later.”
“I’ll take that risk.”
“You’ve had a rough twenty-four hours, Ms. Miller. You aren’t thinking straight.”
I all but growl at him. “Let me guess. I’m a woman and my emotions must be controlling me.”
“Because you’re human.”
“Why do you even care if I stay?” I demand, and I don’t know how or why, but the air around us shifts and thickens.
“Because I do.”
“You don’t even know me.”
“I want to know you.”
I swallow hard. “Well, I’m sure you’ll know every piece of my DNA after seven hours of being trapped here. Goal achieved.”
“Ms. Miller—”
“Stop with the Ms. Miller. I’m not your damn employee anymore. Let go of me.”
He doesn’t let go. His gaze flickers to my mouth, then lifts. “I won’t let you quit.”
“Call Natalie. I’m sure she’ll come back.”
He tugs me close, his hard body aligned with mine, and I can barely breathe. “What do you know of Ms. Duncan?”
“If you mean Natalie, she was in HR when I was.”
“There were circumstances.”
“Yeah. I get that. Believe me, I get it.”
“No. You don’t. She has nothing to do with you or us.”
Us? What does he mean, us? And why is my hand on his chest? Why can’t I move it? “I’m done. Let me go.”
“You won’t change your mind about quitting?”
“No.”
His fingers tangle into my hair, dragging me closer. “Then why would I let you go?”
Both of my hands have now found the wall of his chest, and I intend to push him away, but I just . . . don’t. “What are you doing?”
“What do you think I’m doing? Finding out if you taste as good as I think you do.” And then his lips are on mine, his tongue licking seductively into my mouth, sending erotic sensations spiraling through my body. I tell myself this is insanity. To push away. We barely know each other. I don’t even like him. Except I know it’s a lie. I know that in the short time we’ve known each other, every shared moment, every mutual look, every touch and tangled word exchange, has been leading to this.
Another lick of his tongue and I am unable to hold back a moan or the desperate need to be closer to him. I arch forward, desperate to feel him against me. Desperate to have him naked and touching me. Me touching him. Desperate to be naked and have him inside me. He is a drug, a wicked, wonderful drug that will finally be the end of my sanity if I allow him to be.
That idea sends a burst of panic and adrenaline through me, and I shove at his chest. “Stop. We can’t.”
His mouth leaves mine, and I am one part relief, one part painful need to pull him back. “Why?” he demands, and his voice is rough, affected.
“You’re my boss.”
“You quit.”
“Right. Which means I leave now.”
“You want to leave?”
No. “Yes.”
His eyes darken to deep pools of green fire and stormy torment, telling me he knows this is a mistake. He knows. I know. Why are we still here? “Tell me you really mean that and I’ll let you go,” he vows. “But just know this: If you stay, I absolutely will fuck you senseless and then do it again.”
“I . . . you . . . we can’t . . .”
“We can. I’m going to kiss you now, Kali.”
“Kali?” I whisper, unbelievably aroused by my name on his lips.
“Yes. Kali.” And then he is kissing me, his tongue caressing into my mouth, seeming to touch every intimate part of my body, stroking deep, and burning through me. Sensations roll through me, teasing my senses, torturing me with how much I want him and how wrong I know this is. But then his hand caresses my backside, pulling me closer, hard against his hips, his thick erection pressed to my belly, and I can’t remember why exactly it’s wrong. I am lost. Lost in him. Lost in what I feel, and I don’t want to let anything else in. Not the past. Not the last few hours. I don’t care anymore.
I wrap my arms around his neck, crushing my breasts to his chest, and gasp as he tears his mouth from mine. Then he is staring at me, searching my face for something I don’t understand. And I don’t know what he sees, or what he finds, but his eyes soften, and he strokes the hair from my face. “I was right. One kiss isn’t even close to enough.” His mouth comes down on mine again, and my fingers curl into the fabric of his shirt, holding on to him, willing him not to stop. This time the kiss is deeper, a dark demand that I answer willingly, eagerly, my tongue stroking against his.
Suddenly his fingers wrap my waist and he lifts me, setting me down on the wooden dining room table, spreading my legs to step between them.
“What are you doing?”
He reaches up and tugs on the front zipper of my dress. “Undressing you.”
A moment of clarity comes to me, and I grab his hand. “You need to know this changes nothing. I’m still furious about today. I don’t even know if I like you.”
“But you want me. That’s a start.”
He tugs on my zipper and I don’t stop him, my hands going to the table, trying to stabilize myself, though I’m not sure that is possible. This man is shoving my bra down and ravishing my breasts with a hot inspection that makes my sex clench and my thighs ache.
“I . . .” I pant, and forget what I was going to say. He’s cupping my breasts, pressing them together, and stroking my nipples with his thumbs.
“You what?”
“I don’t know.”
He nudges me backward. “Let me try to figure it out,” he offers, lowering his head, his dark hair tickling my chin, his tongue flicking against my nipple, sending darts of pleasure through me.
I squeeze my eyes shut, fighting for sanity, but his mouth closes down over one of my nipples, sucking deeply, and I am arching my back, offering myself to him. Silently begging him for more. It’s just been so long, I tell myself. So very long since someone touched me like this. So long since I felt like a woman. This isn’t me radiating toward men who like to hurt me. This isn’t me torturing myself. It’s him torturing me in all the right ways.
My hands go to his hair, but he slips away, going down on a knee and caressing my dress up my thighs. “Now I’m going to officially apologize for what happened today,” he vows.
