Review:

For Witch or For Poorer by A.E. Jones is the 5th book in her fun Paranormal Wedding Planners series.  I’ve read this series from the beginning. And I’ve loved every book so far.

Maeve was recently adopted into the pack. (We meet her in the last book “For better or for Wolf”) She loves her new family, (especially her “newly found brothers”) and there is nothing she won’t do for them. She will protect them with her very life. And she might just have to do that!! The wolf who had raised her (who in fact wasn’t her father) is bringing in the big guns, a powerful witches coven. What does he want?

Being with her brothers and a new pack should bring her peace, but peaceful is anything but how Maeve feels. And the wolf inside her, that can’t be let out, not under any circumstances!!! But she needs a little independence, after twenty-five of being controlled by her “father” Maeve wants a little freedom.

Giz/Tim is the nerd of the paranormal security force. (We’ve meet the rest of the team in previous books) he’s the tech guy, the wizard genius, and literally a wizard. But Giz has a secret, one he’s not even willing to share with the guys in his group (and he trusts them with his life)

Maeve and Giz meet on pack grounds and there is an attraction of sorts, but both are wary, so after a sort of flirty conversation, they both go their own ways. Giz is aware that Maeve is still fragile after years of verbal abuse, and the last thing she needs is him. And he’s aware of her three brothers, and really, he doesn’t do relationships…..

The pack is attacked by the Lunadorium (the coven of witches) they’ve already dealt with Maeve’s father, and now they’ve set their sights on the pack and Maeve.

The romance between Giz and Maeve is a slow burn. They feel that each doesn’t deserve happiness, so push or try to ignore their feelings for each other.

This has to be my second favourite book in the series (fingers crossed Sullivan gets a book ?)

Review:

For Better or For Wolf by A.E. Jones is the 4th book in her Paranormal Wedding Planners series.  I’ve read the three previous books in this series and loved them, so I couldn’t wait to see how book four turns out …..

Olivia is a psychiatrist, but things from her past have turned her into a bit of a control freak. She doesn’t have time for love, but she does have time for others. She likes to put things in order and helping others helps restore the order of things.

Connor is part of an unofficial law enforcement team tasked with making sure paranormals didn’t kill each other or, if they do, then don’t let the humans know about it. The humans aren’t suppose to know the paranormals exist. (Half of his team we’ve met in previous books)

When Olivia finds out that there is “other” beings besides humans in the world, her “ordered” world starts to crumble, but Olivia pulls herself together and says yes to helping the werewolf pack, and wouldn’t you know it, the first supernatural she meets is Connor (but she didn’t know he was a werewolf at the time, she threw a drink in his face after mistaking him for another person!!)

Connor can’t wait to hunt down the woman who threw a drink in his face, but work comes first, and going into the building he works as security for (the wedding business in book one) the last person he expects to see is the young lady who drowned him in a Pina colada!!!

Connor acts as a bodyguard for Olivia, he’s there to protect her whilst she works with the werewolf pack, (the alpha is entering an arranged marriage with a rival pack)  but there is something about her that intrigues both the man and wolf, but Connor doesn’t do relationships, he’s all for one night stands and good times, but as he spends more time with Olivia, he might just have to change his opinion.

We also have the matter of Sullivan (the new pack alpha,) he’s been shot, who and why? That’s what Connor aims to find out whilst he’s here. (Connor and his twin were banished by the old alpha, apparently twin wolf cubs are a reason to celebrate!!) But the new alpha wants them back in the pack.

The one liners in this book are snappy and quick, the interaction with previous couples was a nice touch. It had odd moments of hilarity and a few touching and tender moments. An excellent addition the the series.

Paranormal Wedding Planners Series:

From This Fae Forward – Book 2
To Have and To Howl – Book 3

Review:

To Have and To Howl by A.E. Jones is another great book in her fun Paranormal Wedding Planners series.

Julia is a woman on a mission……Her husband had been murdered and, as an attorney, she had a duty to see his killer brought to justice. But in most cases, that’s not always that simple, the killer ( the leader of a gang) had friends, and they helped him to escape, and now they want Julia !!!!

Jack Dawson has to protect Julia from the evil that is chasing her.  But he has a secret (keeps it hidden from his werewolf community and his twin brother) and he feels very confused by his feelings toward Julia. And this secret if it comes out ……  could change his future and not for the better. He just needs more time to work it all out. Time he might not have.

The cast of characters from previous books were in here and they were  as hilarious as usual. And the new group of characters in this book, they just added to the growing family of people you just want to read more of.

The wedding was hilarious couldn’t help but laugh through the whole scene ? As usual the A.E. Jones draws you in with such a descriptive narrative.

So to be honest,I think  you’d have to read them in order (you could just read this one, but I think you’ll get more enjoyment and not so much confusion)

I really can’t wait for the next Paranormal Wedding Planners book.

Review :

With the supernatural world reeling from Devon and Alex’s recent marriage (In Sickness and in Elf – Book 1), along comes From This Fae Forward (Book 2) a great page turner by A.E. Jones.  I had moments where I couldn’t put the book down. I had already been hooked with book 1, with book 2 I was reeled back in until the last page.

The love then turned to hate relationship both these nymphs (woodland nymph and sea nymph) had for each other. A wonderful page turner.

Why had the love they had for each other turn to hate. It was intense in the first book, so to find out more about them, put a lot into perspective.

Sheila is a feisty wood nymph and she lives outside her clan, banished she has made her own way in the (human) world. She makes a living as a fitness instructor and enjoys it, but her father decides on a political marriage  and guess who her fiancé is …..

Sea Nymph Charlie Is hotness with a capital HOT !!!!  Tall blonde and charming, this nymph never seems to be able settle for long. But he is a good man, and when he finds out what’s going on, he warns Sheila.

When forced to play fiancé’s the lines begin to blur. Add the attraction they have for each other it makes for an interesting read. And danger lurks in every corner, so who is the trouble maker and why target Sheila ?

Can the 2 of them overcome centuries of hatred between their clans to gain true love?  You need to read this book to find out.

And now that Alex knows supernaturals do exist, can she once again believe in a fairy-tale happily ever after?

Review:

A.E. Jones is becoming a favourite. When I got the chance to review the start of a new series with In Sickness and in Elf, I jumped at the chance. What a great new book it turned out to be.

Alex hates weddings with a passion, but being left at the altar can do that to a girl.  So running away from that event was the only act for Alex, the only problems she has is that her family are all in the business of wedding planners!! Oh and she has no idea that they cater for supernatural beings as well as humans. Alex has promised her grandmother that she will help find out why the last bride was a runaway at the altar, which threatens to ruin the Bennett Wedding business.

Devin is a paranormal investigator, without paranormal powers. How can he do his job?  Pretty well apparently…. he had his powers taken away from him and is awaiting his trial. He is still helping out whilst waiting for the summons to begin his trial.

Devin and Alex work well together (eventually); that is when Alex finally starts to believe that there are things that go bump in the night, and that she isn’t going mad. The attraction between them is almost instantaneous, but neither want to act on it, so both pretend that the sparks they feel for each other don’t really exist.

As they dig deeper in their investigation, they realize that a few other weddings her family organized ran into problems.  Is it bad luck, or are darker forces working to put the Bennett family out of business?

The story is well written and all the characters are very believable. The plot moves at just the right pace, and the attraction between Alex and Devin was a nice addition.

I love the grandmother’s tips for a perfect wedding, which did make me chuckle. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, and I have no problem recommending this series.

Sentinel Lost
Mind Sweeper series – Book #5
by A.E. Jones

book5ebookAmazon / Kobo / Apple

Description:
How many supernaturals does it take to screw in a lightbulb? For this particular case, way more than Kyle McKinley has backing her up.

\When she stumbles upon a dark museum, missing artwork, and a dead security guard, Kyle and her team are thrust into a new mystery. One involving demons. Now the Feds have shown up, and Kyle has to deal with the one person she prayed she would never see again. Dalton. How can she keep the truth of their past from him without jeopardizing the case? Especially when the Key of Knowledge is part of the mystery. The same Key that almost cost Dalton his sanity and is now threatening hers. Kyle is just starting to get her life back together again with Griffin at her side. And now the Fates are forcing her to choose. But when a demon apocalypse looms on the horizon, her only choice is to embrace the Key to save the world, regardless of what it might cost her.

Review:

Ok this review of Sentinel Lost by A.E. Jones could be a little tricky as it’s a continuing story from books one and two, (ignore the novellas as they are a different story) and as I hate to give story lines away, this should be an interesting review

So ……. Start of the book has Kyle chasing a supernatural through a museum; he gets away, leaving a bruised and frustrated Kyle, the rest of her team join her and we find out a poor guard was killed, and another left unconscious, so the team have their next case.

The story moves along at a fast pace. There are a few unexpected moments where you go, oh !!!!  Including Kyle’s ex partner and lover, Dalton. The moment when Demons send Kyle and Dalton to the in between realm. And we find out more from Kyle’s past, (that is a total OMG moment)

Now without giving too much away from previous books, Dalton is a key component to this story. To make matters worse, Kyle is now involved with a shifter leader called Griffin, (he was in the last two main books). She feels torn between Dalton and Griffin, her feelings are a jumble between them both.

For anyone who hasn’t read the previous books Kyle is a human woman capable of altering minds. She works with a supernatural unit who police the supernaturals. Misha is a demon who is a techno geek, and has an insatiable appetite for anything edible. Jean Luc is a 400 year old vampire, who has just been reunited with his mate Talia. Oh and his coffee skills are terrible. Talia, is new to the team, she worked in Vegas, until a case brought Jean Luc and the team back into her life, she is also a vamp, but not nearly as old as her mate.

Griffin is the leader of the shifters, in fact he is THE leader of all shifters, he can smell lies and emotions, and has been pursuing Kyle through the first book, and now they are a couple in the second book.  Dalton is human, he was first introduced to us as a liaison between the supes (supernaturals) and the norms (humans). Sparks flew between him and Kyle almost immediately, but now being introduced to the team, he is cautious, wary and not the old Dalton (yes it has something to do with a previous book, no I’m not telling)

Nicholas is the man in charge, he hasn’t had much to do in the books, but I have a feeling he is in the background watching. There are a few other characters involved in both the other books.  The books continue to be well written and the scenes are a joy to read. The characters come alive on the pages, and you ride their emotions as if they were your own.

Although the books are about different cases, there is a storyline going through the books, so to be honest you should read them in order.  So I hope you’ll give this book and the whole series a read. It makes a change to have a female in a lead role. And I hope the A.E. Jones will continue with this series, as a few characters need their stories told.

Description:
A Mind Sweeper novella that delves further into Jean Luc and Talia’s story. Thirty years ago, Jean Luc Delacroix believed he had found his mate in Talia Walker—until she walked out on him. While he has honored her wish to be independent, he cannot forget her. And when they’re thrown together again, Jean Luc’s feelings reignite. This time he will do whatever is necessary to make her his.

Talia learned everything she knows about love—and about being a vampire—from Jean Luc. But the memories of her forced turning and loss of humanity compelled her to strike out on her own to prove she could take care of herself. When she comes face to face with Jean Luc again, she wonders if her continued independence is as important as being with the vampire she still loves.

Before either can acknowledge their feelings, they are embroiled in a deadly case. A killer vampire is draining humans. When suspects are uncovered, the very foundation of the vampire nation is threatened. And when they get closer to the truth, and Jean Luc’s life is in danger, Talia risks her own life to hunt down the killer.  Will Jean Luc and Talia finally find the courage to follow their hearts? Or will the killer destroy them first?

Review:

I’ve read the Mind Sweeper series by A.E. Jones from the start, and I’ve got a huge soft spot for Jean Luc. This is a novella, it’s a short read but it’s full of drama, and it’s now time for Jean Luc and Talia’s story to continue.

Jean Luc is a 400 year old vampire, he loves the work he does. But he’s always longed for a family. So the unit he works for now has become his family, there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them.

Talia is also working in the BSR ( Bureau of Supernatural Relations) supe squad for short) a sort of police force, and as a bounty hunter before that. She had grown in power and confidence since leaving Jean Luc. Talia was attacked and turned into a vampire, Jean-Luc helped her come to terms with her new life, but she wanted to know if she could do it On Her own, so Talia left and started a new life on her own, but she never forgot her mentor.

The story starts straight after the last book, so Jean-Luc is in Vegas, Kyle has convinced him to see where these feelings he still has for Talia will take him. But when he Knocks on her door, he doesn’t expect to see a 1/2 naked shifter in her home.

There are hints of passion along the way, with a real will they won’t they tension thrown in for good measure. The ending is well done, with some good, bad and ooooh!

I am really looking forward to the next installment.

Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

Description:
Why did the demon cross the road? Apparently to escape from Kyle McKinley. Which is more than fine with her.

The last thing she wants is to be dragged into another supernatural crisis, but the Fates have something more interesting in store for her. Since the tricky wenches love to mess with people, Kyle isn’t really surprised. And once she learns Trina, the young shifter girl whose memory she erased, is being stalked again, Kyle will do whatever it takes to protect her.

Normally a secretive group, the shifters reluctantly agree to allow Kyle and her vampire and demon teammates to investigate. Are the poachers who kidnapped Trina back for revenge? But when other shifters are also targeted, Kyle becomes convinced there is more to the attacks than vengeance. And when the violence escalates and Griffin, the enigmatic leader of the shifters, ends up in the crosshairs, the team braces for a bloodbath.

Scrambling to identify the mysterious group bent on destroying the shifters, and why, Kyle is also haunted by dreams and painful flashes from the prophesied Key of Knowledge which has taken up residence in her brain. In typical Kyle fashion, she decides to ignore it, but the more she ignores it, the more it digs its claws into her consciousness. If she can’t learn to embrace the Key and ask for help from those closest to her, she could lose her sanity before she’s able to prevent a shifter civil war.

Review:

I am seriously loving the Mind Sweeper series by A.E. Jones. Kyle is a kickass female with a boys name. Lots happened in the last book that I didn’t want to give away, so it makes this review a little tricky.

In Shifter Wars, Kyle has now moved away from her old friends, home and work colleagues. We start with her rescuing a human from Demons, then getting a new job in a casino.

For those who haven’t read the first book, or the novella, a quick recap….
Kyle is a human who has the ability the alter your memories, which comes In handy, she works with shifters, demons and vampires, this group patrols these factions and keeps the humans safe.

The action is kept at a good pace, Kyle moves back to her old world to help a family from the previous book. The shifters are worried that Trisha is being targeted again. So with the help of Jean-Luc and Misha (a demon and a vampire) they set to work finding out who wants the wolf child.

There are new characters, and all of them make this a great read. The atmosphere between her and Nicholas (her old boss) was very tense. Jason (her temporary replacement) bounce well. And the love between her, Misha and Jean-Luc was like brothers and sisters reunited.

And the feelings between Kyle and Griffin (the leader of the werewolves) had me grinning and blushing. Oh and the sub-story (Kyle is now a key) that’s really moving at a great rate.

And the ending ……. Nope, not revealing anything, but I’m already needing the next book.

How to Create a Shifter Hero

A special thank you to the Reading Café for inviting me here today! I am celebrating the release of my third book in my Mind Sweeper series. This series centers around Kyle, a woman with the ability to erase memories, and her paranormal teammates whose job it is to hide their world from humans when they have seen too much.

In my third book, Shifter Wars, Kyle attempts to stop a shifter civil war. So today, in honor of this new book, I have been asked to write about how to create a shifter hero. Here goes…

Take one shifter male, add sea-green eyes and long brown hair, and make him a bit aloof. Have him be the leader of his pack and let power ooze from his pores. Make him protective of his people and willing to sacrifice himself for them. Roll it all together and let him simmer forty-five minutes and you have the perfect recipe for a shifter hero.

So what do you think? Sounds yummy, right? The shifter hero in this book is named Griffin. I introduced Griffin in book one of the series and had an inkling that he would be seen again. He is the leader of the shifter nation and works to protect his people from poachers – humans who hunt and kill shifters for their pelts. Enter Kyle and her team to help with the escalating attacks.

And it doesn’t end there (of course). Internal pack politics play an increasing role causing discord, which in shifter-speak, means bloodshed.

Why do I think Griffin is such an interesting character (if I do say so myself)? Because even though he is all kinds of sexy, he’s also noble. Throughout the story, he rolls up his sleeves and jumps into the fray. He refuses to let his people do anything that he would not do himself. How can you not love that? Oh and he can turn into a cool animal.

In some respects, the making of a shifter hero is similar to the making of any type of hero. He has to be willing to open himself up to the people around him. And he can’t be perfect. That won’t do at all. Perfect equals boring. And we don’t want to read boring. The discovery for the reader and the hero is in recognizing his flaw (and fears) and moving beyond that to change and grow and ultimately move the story along.

But an added twist to this story is the animal side of the equation. After all, for all of his intellect and self-awareness, Griffin also has a wild side. Something under the surface that he has to control or learn to work in harmony with in order to help his family and people. That’s where the wonder of supernatural comes into play. It gives a boost to the story and takes the reader into another world.

So that is how I create a shifter hero. Confident but flawed, determined but flexible, sexy but humble. Did I mention he can turn into a cool animal? I did? Well, hopefully you get the idea.

MInd Sweeper by A.E. Jones – a Review

MInd Sweeper by A.E. Jones – a Review

Mind SweeperAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

Description:
An angel, a demon and a vampire walk into a bar. Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it’s just another day in the life of Kyle McKinley.

Kyle was born with the ability to erase memories, and the inability to keep her opinions to herself. She and her teammates – a vampire who looks like a sexy pirate with fangs, and a Shamat demon with a penchant for Italian pastries – provide supernatural damage control when humans see too much. Today’s problem? A sword-wielding angel and a demon had a supernatural smackdown during happy hour in a Cleveland bar, leaving behind a headless vampire and a dozen human witnesses.

This latest supernatural slip-up is attracting all kinds of attention. So much attention that the police step in, and Kyle has to deal with Joe Dalton, a know-it-all human with the sexiest turquoise eyes she has ever seen. Kyle has no room in her life for yet another human who will treat her like a freak. However, Dalton definitely makes her naughty parts sit up and take notice, and it’s more than mutual. But before they can act on their attraction, they must join forces to solve a dangerous puzzle. And when they uncover the truth, the apocalyptic ripple effect forces Kyle to make a choice. Learn to trust again, or risk losing everyone she cares about, including Dalton.

Review:

With an opening like that, I expected a corny book, what I got was an excellent read.

Kyle is actually a girls name in this book. And she is totally human, but can readjust your mind, so she can place visions. It can be used for both good and bad, but as Kyle is a private investigator, you have to assume its for the use of good. She works with a vampire and a demon, and the three of them make for a great team.

The other human is Dalton (Joe). He works in the police force, And as soon as Kyle and Joe meet, there are sparks. But Kyle doesn’t want another human on the team, so she goes about trying to get rid of him.

The story is well told, lots of details, and very descriptive.  The interaction between the four main characters had me in stitches at times. Misha, the demon I totally loved, his love of pastries made for fun reading. Jean Luc is a vampire. He’s cool, confident and protective. Both are very protective of Kyle.

It starts with the team investigating a supernatural killing, the surprise … An angel beheading a vamp, and the demon trying to protect it !! The team are called in to alter the memories of the humans in the bar.

It all gets a little interesting, as old scores are settled and new lines are drawn up, power struggles are start to occur. And even Kyle’s boss is suspect !!

There are a few surprises and a few moments that caught me out. I’m hoping this maybe a series, as I would love to read more about these four fantastic characters.
