Review:

The Shadows Rule All by Abigail Owen is the final book in her Dominions series. Oh my…. Final book in this trilogy, and I’m going to miss it 😞 

I loved reading the storylines, watching Meren grow into a real kicka$$ character. Faced with challenge after challenge, she never gave up, although it did come close a few times!! 

This book picks up from book two. Can you read this one without reading the first two? You could, but I think you’d be missing out on two fantastic books, and there is information that I felt pertinent to the story (but that’s just my opinion.) 

So many characters have come and gone in this trilogy, some I’ve cried over, some I shrugged and moved on…. But all were integral to the story, one was a filler, everyone had their role to play. 

Meren and Reven have become one of my favourite couples. Their relationship hasn’t been easy, they’ve fought one another and against this world to be together. And in this book, it’s still no easy task! 

Eidolon is still a force to be reckoned with! Although on the ropes, I still wouldn’t count him out just yet! (And I did feel a little sad for him in the prologue 🤫) 

The action is nonstop, the pictures in my head were painted so clearly due to the details given by this author. She creates a world you just want to live in, sights and sounds play like a movie in my head. (In fact at some point I’m going to grab the audios.)

Betrayal/suspense/mystery and battles will have you hard pressed to put this book down until the last page! Friends can’t always be trusted! Allies can turn against you, and even family needs to be watched! 

There are lots of loose ends that need tying up. There are moments that need to be explained. And there are still loved ones to be rescued! And the author does all that and more! 

I don’t want to give too much away, but be prepared for 🤧 and 😱 moments. I’d also say that this book is a little darker than the previous two, there is a warning at the beginning of the book. 

I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it and the previous two. It’s definitely an adventure I’ll be revisiting at some point.

Review :

The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen is the 1st book in her new Crucible series. Can’t tell you how much I was looking forward to reading this book. It’s from one of my favourite authors, and it’s a brand new (no spin off or rerelease) series. I love her Dominion series (that’s a YA read) and adore her Fire’s Edge and Inferno Series (Paranormal/shifter series).

But this book, has them beaten, this has the makings of an awesome series (well I hope it’s a new series, but I’ll take a trilogy/duet/or whatever the author throws my way) 

Myth with a modern day twist, can sometimes come off a stilled or weird! But not this author, she knows how to play the story out, give you just enough information without overload or boring page fillers! 

Characters are finished off to a tee. They jump off the page and into your heart. I read (no, inhaled the book) then sat and read it again, noting all the details that I might have missed. If a movie (true to the book) ever came out, then I’d be first in the queue. 

Details about the world had me clearly visualising it. You could almost smell and hear the story pan out with such great descriptions. 

Gods can be cruel and fickle beings, playing with mortals like dolls. Messing around with their lives, meddling and then watching with fascination. The Crucible is a game held every one hundred years , and the gods get to pick a mortal to be their champion. The mortal gets a prize, (and it’s an amazing prize 🤐) but the winning god gets to rule Olympus! So the gloves come off, cheating/rule breaking/ bending the rules, all in the name of winning!

I loved the games aspect of the story. (No Percy Jackson or Harry Potter challenges I’m afraid, it’s way better than that.) The champions have to do trials set by the gods, and they aren’t easy. The champions can 💀 and some do 😱 it is a little harrowing in places…. But the excitement and anticipation had me on the edge of my kindle 😜 

This isn’t a retelling of Hades and Persephone (which at first I wasn’t too keen on, theirs is a story I love reading) but of Hades and Lyra. Persephone is in here, along with many familiar gods, but we mix them up a little. (Which kept it fresh.) 

Morally grey hero/villain/or just misunderstood? Hades is the god of the Underworld, no surprise there. He’s devious, he’s cold, unfeeling and a total bast@rd!! Lyra maybe his champion, but to him (at first) she’s just a pawn, a tool to get him his prize…. The crown and throne of Olympus! He needs her to stay alive, so his investment of her training is just that, well that’s how it starts 😉

The main female character Lyra, took me a little while to warm up too. She’s a thief, but she doesn’t actively steal, she’s more of a watcher (she watches and helps the Den she comes from to navigate and avoid detection) The character came across too wishy washy, but with most of the author’s characters, they grow, they adapt, and they become one of your favourites. 

And what exactly happened to make Zeus curse her? 🤫 

The story is told by Lyra (which had me missing what Hades thought of his little star) and in one way it makes it a little one sided. (My opinion)  

A slow burn romance has to balance the chemistry with the eventual moment taking place… The sparks, the banter and the pure chemistry these two had, made me a little giddy! I giggled like a schoolgirl, I blushed and I had a nervous cough when things got heated. (Well that’s my fault for reading it on the train 😜) 

Additional characters are many!! Too many some would say. I would love a glossary maybe of the characters, but that’s my wish 😉 but none of them seem superfluous, even the champions of the gods. So as numerous as there are, they all seem to fit into the book. 

So why would Hades pick a regular mortal to be his “champion”? He’s got his pick of anyone! 

Cliffhanger warning for anyone who thought it was going to be easy 😝 a one and done read. Oh no! It’s not going to be that easy. There is also twists, turns, treachery, and betrayal! This isn’t a short read, at over 500 pages long, you’d think it would get bogged down. It doesn’t, the pages seemed to fly by, and I was wishing for more pages! 😆 I’m now hoping the next book is soon (though probably not 😔) 

Would I recommend this? In a heartbeat … open this new world … you won’t be sorry 😍

Review:

An Accident Waiting to Dragon by Abigail Owen is the 3rd book in her Brimstone Inc. series. I’ve read most of this authors works. And I’m slowly reading her older books. But I couldn’t download this fast enough. I loved her Brimstone Inc. series and devoured both her Fire’s Edge and Rising Inferno series. You don’t have to read the three previous series to enjoy this one, but for fans it’s a great addition, and for new readers to her books it will have to wanting to read the backlog 😉 

So….. 

Asher is second in command to the blue dragon King Ladon (Ladon, who we met in his book The Blood King) he is a dragon of action and all this sitting around is making him and his dragon restless. 

Gwen is a Moonlight Pixie (but no ordinary one, she can transport rare, dangerous and hard to obtain objects to the Green Dragon Queen’s kingdoms.) So this new task is just right for her.

These two have a previous relationship, they’ve known each other for years (Asher’s best friend was Gwen’s brother) but an unfortunate incident split the friends apart…Asher didn’t think he would see Gwen again, after the death of her brother (by Asher’s own dragon fire!) Gwen avoided him and then fled her home and world! 

Gwen has no idea what she was flying into with her latest mission, but she would complete it as was her reputation on the line… And when Asher is sent on a mission to rescue her, his dragon makes it clear it wants Gwen(I think they must have meant a little more than friends to each other as Gwen is resistant to Asher and his rescue attempt!) 

As always this author has you on the edge of your seat. The action is fast paced and full of drama. The world in which this is based is rich in description and the authors imagination is a thing of wonder and beauty. 

So can Asher convince Gwen that he only wants to help? Can Gwen move past the fact the friend she knew from her childhood has grown into an honourable dragon and the past was something he couldn’t change?  And when Asher tries to do the right thing, will Gwen run again, or will she stay by his side to fight? 

Another highly recommended read from me. Give it a go if you love this author/dragons/action and adventure. You won’t be sorry.

Review:

The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen is the second book in this series has us starting where the last book left us hanging…..

Meren is still pretending to be her twin sister Tabra, and her life is still in peril, trying to evade the evil clutches of King Eidolon. (Who is still trying to find the power source he needs to rule supreme, he’s killed off almost all of Meren and Tabra’s bloodline!) 

Our shadowwraith (Reven) who is totally into Meren and needs to save Meren again. But as he fights to both save the girl and stay away from her, it’s becoming a real emotional battle. 

Meren in the mean time is having to deal with the emotional upheaval that comes with loving Reven, (shadowwraith) evading King Eidolon, dodging a marriage proposal, and finding out who the traitors are in her camp! (And one of those traitors will have you shouting NO, at the book!) 

You can always rely on this author to grab you by the throat and not let go till the last page! Her descriptions of this world and all those who live here are flawless, you can easily put yourself in this world and into the shoes of all the characters. 

We read with bated breath as the characters swing into action time and again to save Meren from Eiodolon, read as her sister Tabra has her own worries to deal with, and hold out hope that Reven can control the shadows that are slowly consuming him and are trying to take control! And let’s not forget they are all trying to free this realm from the evil clutches of King Eiodolon! It’s a fast paced read that doesn’t take its foot off the gas until the (cliffhanger ending?) 

And when finally Reven can no longer stay away from Meren, it’s all systems go on the “I’m done with staying away from you” vibes ?

An absolutely amazing read. I couldn’t put it down, and I can’t wait to see where book three takes us. It’s full of adventure, twists/turns and betrayal that you won’t see coming. And finding a few new friends/allies that are needed in this quest of good triumphing over evil (and it goes either way in this book!) 

So if you enjoy an adventure that will tug on your emotions, then I highly recommend this book.

Review :

The Liar’s Crown by Abigail Owen is a standalone YA Fantasy.  There are a few triggers, so read the warnings.  As soon as I see this author has a new book, I’m there. The cover is gorgeous (I’m thinking I might need a paperback for my shelves) ? Abigail Owen knows how to write paranormal romance (please look at her Inferno Rising/Fire’s Edge series).  Balancing the plot and romance is always tricky. Writing for a YA (Young Adult) audience when a lot of your books aren’t YA takes skill. So enough about the author, let’s get down to the book…..

Meren is a twin (the younger one) and as tradition states her life is to be in the shadows, she’s there to protect her sibling (if danger arises Meren is expected to sacrifice herself!) so her confidence in herself is nonexistent, she chafes at her role in life, but there isn’t anything she can do about it….

But Meren does escape the Ivory tower she’s locked away in (to Meren it’s more like a dungeon.) She wanders the streets at night whilst wearing different disguises.

The plot is skilfully layered with twists/turns and OMG moments…. As you read the book, things become clearer and a few things make sense. The descriptions in this book place you right in the moment, you can smell the streets that Meren visits, you can see the grandeur of the palace, and you witness King Eidolon’s sickness/madness.

King Eidolon is after Meren’s sister Tabra, so she does the job she was born to do, she stands in her place, and becomes King Eidolon’s bride! (I wouldn’t trust this guy an inch) But before the wedding takes place, Meren is kidnapped!!

Reven is a complex character, essentially good, but his secret makes him reluctant to be actually good?! His character has plenty of conflicting emotions and motivations. And he certainly gets more than he bargained for when he kidnaps the wrong princess!!

And then we have Cain ? and in the world’s I read why can’t she have both ??

The characters have a hard time trusting one another as they travel through this story. Kidnappers are usually nice people, so when does the kidnapper become protector? (You’ll need to read the book?)

Can Meren save her sister from the clutches of Eidolon? Can she figure out what Eidolon really wants? Can she be the hero in this story? And can I get the next book please.

I wouldn’t say it’s a cliffhanger ending, but it does leave us and the characters wondering where this will take us next…..

Review:

Hit by the Cupid Stick by Abigail Owen is part of the Brimstone Inc series, it’s not necessary to read the others in this series (I’ve only read two books in this series before this one) 

Chance is a Cupid, not a cute little angel with wings and a bow (a huge misconception his race have to contend with!) but a strapping god that wears suits and a smile that makes women go weak at the knees. 

Elodie was born and raised a siren. Luring men to their deaths is not just a job for her, it also feeds the monster that lives within her. Except Ellie (Elodie) only uses her gifts for catching evil men, those that prey on others, those men Ellie is happy to kill. Using her gifts on a daily basis has made her jaded, love is for fools….

Both have feelings for one another, they’ve known each other for a long time, a little flirting here and there, but mainly staying away from one another’s business. Chance thinks Ellie is amazing, but she’s not going to look at someone who is in the love business! And Ellie tries not to think of Chance if she can help it. Why would he look at someone who kills? 

This couple shouldn’t have worked. But it did, and it works really well. Opposites might attract, but when you throw in an accidental arrow finding a wrong target, then you can be assured chaos will soon ensue….It’s funny, it’s cheesy, and so sweet it may leave you with toothache. ? A little angst, but it only adds to this books charm. 

I have to admit, I love reading Abigail Owen’s books. Her Infernos Rising and Fire’s Edge series are two of my favourite series to read again and again. She mixed magic with supernatural and just a sprinkling of mythology and another (although short) story is born. 

There are characters that have been in previous books (which was lovely catching up with) who pop in and try to help this couple as they navigate the choppy waters of love. Elodie thinks the love arrow will wear off soon, Chance knows better…..

Can he convince his Siren to give them a chance? His previous matches might have been odd couples, but they’ve worked. So it stands to reason that they’ve got a pretty good chance, right? 

If you are a fan of this author, grab it. If you love Paranormal Romance then grab it. And if you are a fan of themed (Valentines Day) romances, then this one will have you smiling most of the way through it.

Review:

The Cursed King by Abigail Owen is the last book in this wonderful series (Inferno Rising). I’m happy I’ve read it, but I’m sad that this amazing journey is over! You could read this story without reading the previous books, but there is so much going on throughout the series, it would definitely give you a better grasp on what’s going on.

In the last book we get a snippet of how things will go with Arik and Angelika, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride!! Angelika is tired of being useless! Hidden away from everyone, but especially the high king (he wants the last Phoenix to retain his throne) she needs to feel useful. She wants to help bring down the dragon that killed her parents and enslaved the man she’s falling in love with…. Being free after being held captive by the High King Py for centuries should have been a joyous time for Arik, to see the blue sky without bars should have made him smile. But a feral dragon lived inside him (this was caused by the centuries of incarceration) they battle on a daily basis, he can’t let him out as Arik is positive the dragon would kill without distinguishing friend from foe!

Forming an alliance with Arik makes perfect sense to Angelika, they could persuade the White Dragon Clan to defect to their side and abandon the High King. Py always seems to have the upper hand in battles, is it because of numbers (white, red and green dragons follow him) so they need to even up the score. But convincing the stubborn white dragon of that fact is proving difficult for Angelika! With Arik it was one step forward, six steps back!! We all know he wants her, she’s made it clear she wants him. So let’s get it going Arik!!

I absolutely loved this one, we have danger, intrigue, twists and battles. We have a stubborn white dragon afraid to get close to the only woman that has held his and his dragon’s interest. And we have the youngest of the four Phoenix sisters trying to find her place in this dangerous world! And we have so much passion and romance between the two main characters that it almost steamed my glasses up? Drawing in the sisters and their mates, we even get to catch up with a powerful wizard and his mate (book)

The author drew up all the loose ends and left nothing dangling. All avenues were explored and all allies were included. So can Angelika and Arik convince the white dragons to rebel against Py? Can they really defeat him with a defective dragon and a useless Phoenix? And the ending…. It just had to be that way ?? ?

Review 

The Traitor by Abigail Owen is the 5th book in her Fire’s Edge series.  Finally!  I’ve waited (sort of) patiently for Rune Abbadon’s book for a while now, and it was well worth the wait. 

We’ve known about Rune since the first book, in fact he’s been mentioned (and possibly appeared) in the spin off series (Inferno Rising Series). He’s a rogue dragon that defies the alliance, and he’s been a thorn in the The High King’s side for some time!  But in this book we find out more about the man/dragon. We already know he’s a snarly, lone Wolf! An enigma.  But he was once part of the infamous Huracáns team. 

So what happens for him to go rogue?  We know he’s taking mates that are destined to other dragons! Why? It’s all to do with a theory he worked out. But no one really believed him,  so going rogue was his only option! 

Hadyn is such a complex character. Definitely human, brought up by dragons after her parents and their son died. Teaching her all there was to know about dragon kind.  She’s a human meant to be a mate for a dragon.  And after losing her adoptive parents to a rogue seeking team, she’s now looking for help. Her dragon father told her of a dragon that could help her. 

But when she finds him, he’s not that helpful! In fact he doesn’t trust her at all!!  His dragon is very interested in the little human (Hadyn) but Rune doesn’t let anyone get too close. And so an uneasy truce/alliance is formed. 

Spending time with Hadyn is very distracting for Rune, he’s usually not interested in females. But this one is crawling under his skin with her constant questions, attitude and determination. Maybe he ought to suggest a no strings affair whilst he helps her?! 

I love these stories. It’s easily read on its own, but read in order just gives the book more depth.  We see how and why Rune is so closed off. There is also a lot of action (running from rogue hunting squads). The attraction between these two is just hot. But he knows she can never really be his. She belonged to someone else, and a fated mate only gets one chance, so trying to mate with Hadyn could cause her death! 

We catch up with previous couples, we also get more info on what’s happening with the Alliance. And when a bounty is placed on Rune’s head it places everyone he cares about in danger! There is so much going on, death of a beloved couple. Fights for freedom and rescue missions. It doesn’t let up!! 

I’m recommending this book, but I’m also asking that you read the others as well. You won’t be sorry. The pace, the passion and the story is just one you’ll want to read again and again.
