Rachel Armstrong has a burning need to right the world’s wrongs. Thus, she becomes the Avenging Angel.

And maybe she’s a bit too cocky about it.

While riding a hunch about the identity of a kidnapper, she runs into Julien “Cap” Jackson, who was trained by the team at Nightingale Investigations in Denver. Now he’s a full-fledged member at their newly opened Phoenix branch.

It takes Cap a beat to realize Raye’s the woman for him. It takes Raye a little longer (but just a little) to figure out how she feels about Cap.

As Raye introduces Cap to her crazy posse of found family and his new home in the Valley of the Sun, Cap struggles with his protective streak. Because Raye has no intention to stop doing what she can to save the world.

But there’s a mysterious entity out there who has discovered what Raye is up to, and they’ve become very interested.

Not to mention, women are going missing in Phoenix, and it seems like the police aren’t taking it seriously.

Raye believes someone should.

So she recruits her best friend Luna, and between making coffees, mixing cocktails, planning parties and enduring family interventions (along with reunions), the Avenging Angels unite to ride to the rescue.

REVIEW:AVENGING ANGEL is the first instalment in Kristen Ashley’s contemporary, adult AVENGING ANGEL erotic, romantic suspense series. This is former US army solider turned PI Julien ‘Cap’ Jackson, and bartender Rachel ‘Raye’ Armstrong’s story line. The AVENGING ANGEL series is a companion to the author’s ROCK CHICK series. Several characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: There is a small group of enterprising women who call themselves the Avenging Angels. With the help of a mentor, as well as Nightingale Investigations and Security, these wormen go in search of those unable to help themselves including the missing, the abused and the lost.

Told from first person perspective (Raye) AVENGING ANGEL follows in the aftermath of the search and rescue of a missing child. Along with her best friend Luna, Rachel ‘Raye’ Armstrong works part time search for missing people and children. Her latest assignment finds our heroine face to face with PI Julien ‘Cap’ Jackson, and several members of Nightingale Investigations and Security, searching for the same missing child. Pulled towards our story line heroine, Cap Jackson begins an investigation of his own, only to discover there is more to Rachel Armstrong then he could have ever imagined. Several ‘working’ women are missing in the Phoenix area; NIghtingale Investigations is on the hunt, Raye must come to terms with her past; and a number of familiar faces take time to assist in the search for the missing women.

The world building is detailed as our couple reveal their own heart breaking pasts. Raye has felt shunned since a devastating loss that destroyed her family; Julien Jackson’s chosen family including his ‘mama’ Shirleen (Rock Chick Reborn), open up to Luna and Raye, and in doing so, forge an alliance, a friendship and family based on respect and love.

The relationship between Cap and Raye begins acrimoniously but quickly turns into something more. Cap will come guardian and protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love, a woman who can be a little TSTL, but often in the face of finding the missing women, and in defiance of being told what to do. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of familiar, colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters , many of whom we met in the original Rock Chick series. We are introduced to Luna Nelson, and her sisters Dream; Luna’s parents Charlie and Deb Armstrong; the tight knit group of tenants of Raye’s apartment complex, as well as the security team at Nightingale Investigations, and the women of the Avenging Angles.

AVENGING ANGEL is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, madness and vengeance, determination and obsession, family and friendships, relationships and love. The slow building premise is dramatic and gritty; the romance is seductive and passionate; the characters are desperate, determined and dynamic

REVIEW: BACK IN THE SADDLE is the second instalment in Kristen Ashley’s contemporary, adult AVENGING ANGELS erotic, romantic suspense series, a spin off, set in the author’s ROCK CHICK worlds. This is forty-three year old, former FBI agent and member of the Nightingale Investigations and Security team Eric Turner, and Avenging Angel Jessie Wylde’s story line. BACK IN THE SADDLE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: There is a small group of enterprising women who call themselves the Avenging Angels. With the help of a mentor named Arthur, as well as Nightingale Investigations and Security (Rock Chick #1), the women go in search of those unable to help themselves including the missing, the abused and the lost.

Told from first person perspective (Jessie) BACK IN THE SADDLE picks up a few months after the events of book one AVENGING ANGELS, and follows Jessie Wylde as she goes in search of her missing brother, a young man who struggles with mental illness. Stalking the homeless encampments at night, Jessie battles between head and heart knowing that if her brother is found, he may not be the brother she remembers. Enter former FBI agent Eric Turner, a member of the Nightingale Investigations, and the man with whom Jessie will fall in love. The search for Jessie’s brother Jeff reveals a continuing list of missing people, people who may have fallen victim to drug dealers and abusers, as well as a crew of well-intentioned vigilantes who may or may not be giving Nightingale Investigations a run for their money.

The world building follows several intersecting pathways including the search for missing and vulnerable people:the ill, the addicted, the abused and the lost. As Jessie and Eric’s relationship quickly builds into something more, the Angels and Nightingale Investigations will team together to help those unable to help themselves.

The relationship between Jessie and Eric is one of immediate attraction. For Eric is appears to be a relationship predicated upon insta-lust to love; for Jessie, our heroine is falling for a man who is determined to protect the woman he loves, even from herself. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the return of bar owner Tito, Luna Nelson, and her sister Dream; Angel Harlow, Nightingale Security specialists and Rock Chick husbands/ mates: Mace ,Roam, Liam, Knox, Gabe and Brady, as well as Cap and Raye; Moses and Shirleen; Jessica’s brother Jeff Wylde aka Easy: Javiar Montoya aka Mountain; Homer aka The General; Eric’s ex girlfriend Savannah; Titus, and Chief Alvarez. The camaraderie, and the back and forth between characters is frenetic and fast.

BACK IN THE SADDLE is a story of mental illness and struggle, secrets and lies, obsession and determination, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is detailed, dramatic and captivating; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the characters are determined, dynamic and desperate.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

AGENT VS ASSASSIN (Lilah Love 10) by LR Jones -review

AGENT VS ASSASSIN (Lilah Love 10) by LR Jones-review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Google Play / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 27, 2024

Lilah’s enemies love to taunt her. For some reason, they don’t seem to understand how much such things amuse her.

For the first time, she faces an opponent just as cold, and highly calculated.

Lilah. Ghost. A battle between killers.

•••

REVIEW: AGENT VS ASSASSIN is the tenth instalment in LR Jones aka Lisa Renee Jones’s contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic, suspense series focusing on foul-mouthed, aggressive, contentious and prickly FBI agent Lilah Love-Mendez, and her husband, businessman /Cartel heir Kane Mendez. AGENT VS ASSASSIN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book nine THE GHOST ASSASSIN. If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be spoilers in my review.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Throughout the series, Lilah Love has been looking into an organization known as The Society, a powerful group that controls many of the politicians, law enforcement personnel, and the rich and famous, and it is this group that may or may not be targeting the people at the top, one of which is her estranged father, a man running for Governor, a man with connections to the people in control.

Told from first person perspective (Lilah) AGENT VS ASSASSIN picks up shortly after the events of THE GHOST ASSASSIN. Lilah has been struggling with the memories from her past, yet the assassin known as Ghost has offered to take down the ghosts that continue to haunt her dreams but there is more than one assassin on the horizon, and Lilah may be the target of both. With her father running for governor, and her brother working alongside, Lilah begins to focus on the who, how and why, as another high profile murder grabs the attention of FBI agent Lilah Love-Mendez.

The world building continues to follow Lilah as she battles the incompetent yet determined law enforcement, and her team of rag tag specialists with the ability to uncover other people’s secrets and lies. As Kane must come to terms with the reappearance of a man long thought dead, Lilah will come face to face an interesting foe.

There is another large ensemble of secondary and supporting characters including Lilah’s bodyguard Jay, Kane’s bodyguard Kit; Lilah’s brother Andrew; hacker Lucas Davenport; and Lilah’s IT guru Jeff ‘TicTac’ Landers, most of whom are the hunter/gatherers of Lilah’s investigations. We are introduced to an assassin who goes by Ghost, who is always one step ahead of our story line heroine; and the return of someone long thought buried and gone, a return that barely merits a few paragraphs of text.

AGENT VS ASSASSIN is a story of power and control, betrayal and obsession, dysfunctional family dynamics, relationships and love. The premise is detailed and dramatic yet barely advances the story line but a couple of days; the characters are charismatic yet guarded. AGENT VS ASSASSIN ends on a cliff hanger, you have been warned.

•••••

REVIEW:Book three in this series. I’ve read and loved the previous books. There is a connection (the men this the last two books are known by Tate.) But it doesn’t mean you have to read them in order.

This book takes place at the end of the French Revolution, but at the beginning of Napoleon’s renewed war on Britain! It’s dangerous time being in France, families lose lives and loved ones in this period.

The prologue was gripping, this was set just a little earlier (in the French Revolution period!)

Tate has known this family for a long time, he helped Vivienne’s family escape, and took them to his home in England. With Vivienne he definitely wore his heart on his sleeve, and was absolutely terrified and scared that something would happen to her, so he takes it upon himself to find and bring her back!

Vivienne was born in France, but fled to England to escape the terror. Now she’s back to get her revenge! Vivienne, I felt was really tenacious in her search for the truth of that horrible night. And I admired her spirit and courage when she decides to return to France and find her sister.

This book was well written and really well researched, it has a few discrepancies (but that’s the authors take on it and has to write a few things differently.)

Both Tate and Vivienne have feelings for one another, but circumstances have kept them apart. But now he’s got her in his sights, there is nothing stopping him from claiming her, well, except for her! She is consumed with finding justice for her sister.

It’s a fast paced adventure, with lots of intrigue and suspense.

REVIEW:If you’re looking to finish out the 2024 year with a ugly cry book, you have come to the right place for it. The One by Marni Mann is book five in the Spade Hotel series. It is definitely recommended to read the series in order, there are many details and characters that are present that I think are important when reading the newest installment. However, the books can be read as standalone if you really want to.

It is FINALLY Rhett’s turn. So much of this series shows Rhett as the cold, heartless, villain, never willing to do anything for anyone, always looking out for himself. Well now we have the other side to that story, and what a story it is. To tell that story we have to go back fifteen years ago.

Rhett and Lainey are high school sweethearts, they are young, they are naive, and they are so, so in love. When the unthinkable happens, and tears our two love birds apart, Lainey gets lost in her grief and leaves, off to get lost in the world, severing all contact with Rhett. The pair unravel without each other, it is heartbreaking to see.

Fast forward to the present, Rhett is a grumpy, cold, complicated man who prefers his own company over any other. While Lainey is living with more and more grief everyday. This couple is the definition of living without part of your soul. Their story revolves around their separation, the heartbreak and grief that came from that, the trauma they endured and the loneliness they both have suffered. Rhett’s guilt and Laney’s grief are without a doubt some of the strongest emotions I have experienced from a book before.

When these two finally come back together for the first time in nearly two decades, the tension is palpable. Rhett has to lean into his vulnerability and really show Lainey what he is feeling, and Lainey has to let down her shields that she had spent so long holding up.

I really have to give Marni credit for her ability to write such intense and deep rooted characters, Rhett and Lainey are an amazing combination of pain, hope, forgiveness and passion.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 26, 2024

A companion novel in the All of Me Series. This book cannot be read as a stand-alone.

Growing up in Ireland, I always felt like something was missing. I had an idyllic childhood, yet I was never truly happy.

After Mum explained about the adoption, I constantly questioned my existence. Despite being surrounded by love, I struggle to accept it or reciprocate.

When my bio dad shows up, trying to buy my silence, a switch flips inside me, and I let my demons run free. Nothing matters except revenge.

Then she lands in my lap—the love of my twin’s life—and it feels like fate.

Except nothing goes according to plan. I was supposed to steal her heart—she wasn’t supposed to steal mine.

After she runs back to him, I’m left heartbroken and shattered. The hits just keep on coming, and my pain turns to anger. Revenge takes center stage again, and the perfect opportunity presents itself when Simon dies.

Meeting my twin sets a devastating chain reaction in motion, and I’m drowning under the weight of my sins.

Vivien is struggling to cope in the aftermath of her crushing loss. Repairing the damage is my number one goal, because I won’t leave her to handle this alone. She can hurl hateful words at me and do her best to push me away.

But I am going nowhere.

Protecting my family is my sole priority. Vivien and Easton need me, and this time, I won’t let them down.

REVIEW: DILLON is the fifth (and final?) instalment in Siobhan Davis’ contemporary, adult ALL OF ME dark, erotic, romance series focusing on Dillon O’Donoghue, Vivien Mills, and Reeve Lancaster. DILLON should not be read as a stand alone as the premise reveals the highlights of one man’s life as he comes to term with the life he lives, and the life he never knew.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Dillon) covering approximately forty years in the life, overlapping with the previous instalments, DILLON is the culmination of four story lines; of secrets and lies that destroyed three lives, and sent Dillon O’Donoghue on a downward spiral wherein he will come to discover that betrayal comes at a cost.

DILLON is an up close and personal perspective of one man’s descent into the muck and mire of vengeance in the wake of the discovery of who he is, and what he knows. Setting a plan into motion to destroy the people he blames for destroying his life, Dillon O’Donoghue will lose his heart to a woman whose own secrets will send Dillon towards the abyss, wherein another tragedy will push the couple forward, together and the promise of a happily ever after.

DILLON is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and relationships, forgiveness and love. The premise is dark, dramatic, and heart breaking; the romance is limited but seductive and provocative; the characters are broken but struggling to heal.

Now, I’m torn between two missions. The problem is, protecting one might mean putting the other in danger.

My past is closing in, the enemy is getting closer, and I’m running out of time.

How the hell do I choose between my duty and my heart?

REVIEW: COOPER is the fourth instalment in Kat Mizera’s contemporary, adult ROYAL PROTECTORS erotic, romantic suspense series. This is US Army Captain Ryan Cooper, and former Limaj Marine and Royal Protector Natalia Farkas’ story line. COOPER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Natalia was first introduced in book two Zander.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ryan and Natalia) COOPER follows in the wake of the rescue of Ryan Cooper. Captain Ryan Cooper was Natalia Farkas’ commander while serving in the Middle East but a barely veiled attraction struggles with Natalia’s leave to go work with the Royal family in Limaj, her home country of origin. Natalie continues to struggle with PTSD, and when news of Ryan Cooper’s capture reaches home Natalie battles between head and heart believing she has lost again. A US Navy SEAL rescue, and inevitable recovery for Ryan in Germany forces Ryan to reconsider his future when Natalia offers her help and support, and a possible future with the Limaj Royal Protectors. Weeks of recovery and rehabilitation in Limaj brings our couple closer together but when the Royal family is target, not all is as it appears to be.

The world building follows several pathways including the rehabilitation of Captain Ryan Cooper, and his growing love for our story line heroine. Several attacks against the Royal family, and the capture of prisoners, forces Ryan to reconsider the future going forward when he begins to suspect the target of the attack is someone else.

The relationship between Ryan and Natalia begins in the Middle East when Natalia is assigned under Captain Ryan Cooper’s command. A brief one-night stand ends with Natalia deployed home as a future member of the Limaj Royal Protectors, but Natalia never forgot about the man she left behind. Working together in Limaj, Natalia finds herself falling for a man who has yet to determine his path towards the future. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including Prince Sandor and Lennox, Princess Elen and Zander; King Erik and Queen Casey.

COOPER is a story of power and control, vengeance and war, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are determined and energetic.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Colt and Briar) and a final chapter from Landon, ALPHA’S CLAIM follows in the aftermath of the arrival of our story line heroine, an arrival marked by abuse and exhaustion. Colt Savage is the alpha shifter of the Copper Canyon wolf pack, and as such, continues to hope for a fated mate but no such luck from within his pack, and Colt suspects he will have to go on the hunt for the woman fated to be his mate but the arrival of an injured human female stirs Colt’s inner wolf, a wolf who knows Briar is their mate. Not everyone is happy with Briar’s arrival, and there are still others on the hunt hoping to claim Briar as their own.

The world building focuses on the infrastructure of the Copper Canyon Wolf pack, as well as the jealousy and potential in-fighting for a pack that usually gets along but the Savage brothers are all hoping to find a mate, a woman to match their power, hunger and control.

The relationship between Colt and Briar begins as a ‘rescue’ of a sorts when Briar arrives battered and bruised at the Copper Canyon wolf pack land. Colt knows immediately that Briar is his fated mate but Briar is on the run, hiding from people who have done her harm. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to several members of the Copper Canyon Wolf pack including Colt’s brothers Bryce and Landon; pack housekeeper Etta, and wanna-be mate Elle. The requisite evil has many faces.

ALPHA’S CLAIM is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, magic and the supernatural, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and entertaining but there is quite a bit of overlap and redundancy (retelling in different POV); the romance is swift and seductive; the characters are determined and dynamic.
