Told from several third person perspectives including Ulric, Rainn, Brigette and Levet CONQUER THE DARKNESS follows Ulric as he comes face to face with his past, a past he believed had been destroyed by Anasso hundreds of years before. With the return of his cousin Brigette, Ulric had hoped that perhaps more of his family had survived the destruction but not everything was as it appeared to be. Rainn is a zephyr sprite who has been fated by birth to do the Oracles’ bidding , and their bidding included destroying the evil that demands control of the world but Rainn and Ulric find themselves struggling to survive as the evil has taken control of the woman Ulric was hoping to find, an evil that has plans for our story line hero.

Meanwhile, Levet the gargoyle has stowed away on Ulric and Rainn’s flight to Ireland, where he will be tasked with locating an ancient book that will hopefully explain about the evil that is about to engulf the world.

The relationship between Rainn and Ulric is a friends/employees to lovers relationship wherein Ulric reveals, while on their search for Brigette, that Rainn is his mate but Rainn struggles with the task at hand, and refuses to accept that Ulric is her happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including gargoyle Levet and ogress / mermaid Inga and her assistant Troy, vampires Chiron, Javad, Tarik and his mate Waverly ; Cyn, the clan chief of Ireland and his mate Fallon, Ulric’s cousin Brigette, and a powerful demon known as Zella. WE are introduced to Chaaya, a woman who calls herself the gatekeeper, but a woman who will find her place amongst the Guardians back home.

CONQUER THE DARKNESS is a story of betrayal and vengeance; of power and control; of fate and happiness. The premise is entertaining and imaginative; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are energetic and spirited.

THE INTENDED VICTIM can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Remi and Ash) and first person (killer) THE INTENDED VICTIM follows in the wake of the possible return of a serial killer. Five years earlier Remi Walsh was the intended victim of a serial killer known as The Butcher but Remi’s call to her father, police officer Gage Walsh, resulted in the death of her father, and Remi with no memory of what happened that day. Fast forward to the present, wherein a series of murders where all of the victims have been surgically altered to look like Remi Walsh, pull Ash Marcel, Remi’s former fiancé into the investigation. This is hotelier and ancient vampire Chiron, and hotelier Lilah’s story line. DARKNESS RETURNS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: WHEN DARKNESS ENDS was originally intended to be the final book in the author’s Guardians of Eternity series but the storyline ended with a happily ever after –for now, so it was the end of that particular arc. Now it appears Ms. Ivy will be continuing to focus on her Guardians of Eternity with a new story line arc.

Told from several third person perspectives including Chiron and Lilah DARKNESS RETURNS follows ancient vampire Chiron as he is tasked by the Anasso Styx (King of the Vampires) to find the vampire Chiron once called Master and friend, a male whose whereabouts are currently unknown. DARKNESS RETURNS is a story of betrayal, secrets, lies and loss. Lilah is unaware of the true nature of her past, a past that has been wiped from her mind and her thoughts. Chiron knows his Master is still alive but our hero must battle between head and heart when freeing Tarak could place his mate in mortal danger.

Alexandra Ivy introduces a new species or two to her world of the supernatural, species I suspected early on in the story. Levet’s inaccurate use of words and euphemisms is priceless and fun; the return of Viper, Styx and Ulric lends connection, cohesion and familiarity to the current story line. The premise is captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are colorful, dark, and dangerous. DARKNESS RETURNS ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF? is a suspense-filled, thrill ride but the ‘guilty’ party(s) is alluded to early on thus avoiding the twists and turns that I would have expected. The predictability was disheartening as were the likely and forseeable reasons behind the copy-cat killings-sometimes too much information imparted to the reader unravels the mystery before it begins. The premise is engaging; the characters are intense-we are reintroduced to Rylan Cooper from Pretend You’re Safe (book one); the romance is a slow build towards a happily ever after.

With the recent deluge of rain, the rapidly rising waters of the Mississippi gave up her secrets with the missing and the dead. The $ex scenes are limited but seductive although the attraction between our leading couple is low key and felt somewhat awkward. Jaci struggles with her attraction to the man who ignored her earlier fears and warnings.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sheriff Mike O’Brien, his office assistant Carol, local artist Nelson Bradley; Jaci’s estranged family including half-sister Payton, half-brother Christopher, step-father Blake Hamilton, and mother Loreen Hamilton. We are also introduced to Rylan’s father Elmer Cooper , as well as a number of townsfolk, neighbors and nosy busybodies.

PRETEND YOU’RE SAFE is a thrilling and passionate story line. The premise is intriguing and keeps you guessing until the very end.

REVIEW: BLADE is the latest addition to the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights anthology, and the twenty third installment in Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright’s dual authored, contemporary, adult BAYOU HEAT paranormal, romance novella series focusing on the Pantera shifters of the Wildlands of Louisiana. This is Suit pantera Blade, and human waitress Valli’s story line. BLADE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

SOME BACKGROUND: The pantera are a secretive group of puma shifters living in the magical Wildlands of Louisiana. Their existence is threatened by a group known to capture, imprison, and cruelly experiment upon the shifters in the hopes of creating a super soldier blending pantera and human DNA. The labs at Bensen Enterprises have been destroyed but the scientists and people in charge continue to inflict pain and suffering upon those whose lives they have tried to destroy.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Valli and Blade) BLADE follows pantera shifter Blade as he searches for the human female impregnated with his seed. Blade only knows that the female is on the run, somewhere near the Louisiana Bayou, and our hero is desperate to find the woman who may be carrying one of the few successfully bred cubs. Once found, Valli accuses Blade of hideous crimes, crimes that Blade knows nothing about. What ensues is the struggle to reveal the truth, and the building relationship between Valli and Blade that will be threatened when someone comes looking for our story line heroine.

BLADE is a quick read; a fast paced story of insta-lust and love between a pantera and the human who carries the hopes of their species. The premise is energetic but predictable; the characters are passionate and emotional; the romance is fated and intense-another pantera shifter will find his mate in the Wildlands of Louisiana.

Walking out of the kitchen with careful steps, Valli wondered if Fran suspected she wasn’t feeling well. Again. If so, the older woman would insist that she go upstairs to bed. It was such a temptation, but it would not only leave Fran alone to deal with both cooking and waiting tables—it would be a reminder of the last time she’d been unwell. And she couldn’t risk losing her job, even if Fran let her stay upstairs while she hired out again. She had to push through.
Once out of the kitchen, she scurried down the short hallway that led to the women’s bathroom. Crossing to the sink, she splashed cold water on her face, taking deep breaths.
After a moment or two the dizziness receded but was replaced by a strange sense of euphoria. As if something, or someone, was filling her with pure joy.
Unnerved by the sensation, Valli rushed out of the bathroom, only to slam into a man who was just entering the hallway.
Dr. Scott Richards reached out to grasp her by the shoulders, preventing her from bouncing away like a pinball.
“Valli, are you okay?” he asked in concern.
She instantly pulled away from his touch. It wasn’t personal. The doctor was young and boy-next-door handsome, with his dark blond hair and bright blue eyes. He even had dimples. But since her return from the clinic she didn’t want anyone touching her. Especially not men.
She forced a smile to her lips. “Sorry, Dr. Richards.”
He clicked his tongue. “How many times do I need to tell you to call me Scott? Dr. Richards was my dad.”
She took another step backward. Since her arrival in Bonne, she sensed that Scott wanted more from her than just a doctor/patient relationship.
“Scott,” she reluctantly offered.
“That’s better.” He flashed his dimples. “Now why don’t you join me for a cup of coffee? You look like you could use some caffeine.”
“I’m fine.”
He frowned. “You’re pale.”
“I’m working a double shift, so it’s been a long day.”
“Hmm.” His gaze studied the shadows she knew marred the skin beneath her eyes before lowering to her loose smock. Did he suspect there was something she was trying to hide? Or was he just surprised in her choice of uniform? “I think you need to come in for a checkup.”
A flush of anxiety moved through Valli at his words. She pressed herself against the wall and began to inch her way toward the back door that served as an emergency exit.
She liked this man. She really did. But there was no way in hell she was allowing him to examine her. No way in hell she was letting him even get close enough to try.
“I told you when I returned to town that I was cured.”
