ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 27, 2016

One story. Two couples.

I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.

What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.

I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.

This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.

REVIEW: TRANSFER is the second installment in Aly Martinez’s contemporary, adult RETRIEVAL romantic suspense duology. TRANSFER should not be read as a stand alone as the story line continues and picks up immediately after the events of book one-Retrieval.

Told from four first person points of view (Roman, Elisabeth, Clare and Heath) TRANSFER primarily focuses on Clare and Heath (where as Retrieval focused on Roman and Elisabeth): Clare’s rescue and recovery from years of abuse at the hands of her husband; the building of family; and the search for Walt Noir- the number one man on the city’s most wanted list. What ensues is the developing relationship between Clare and Heath, and the integration of a child between two families who share more than a common bond.

TRANSFER is a story about survival, domestic abuse, power and control. The reader is pulled into a tragic tale that ends with a happily ever after but the struggle for freedom is a constant battle fearing reprisal and recriminations for daring to walk away.

Aly Martinez writes an emotionally charged, heartbreaking and suspense filled story about two couples who are pulled together by a common thread but a thread that is slowly unraveling as their lives begin to implode. The premise is dramatic, intense and intriguing; the characters are passionate and inspiring; the romance is emotional and uplifting- Heath is a remarkable hero whose only sin was to fall in love with a broken woman. The epilogue fast forwards the story five years and we get a glimpse into the future and two very heartwarming happily ever afters.

ABOUT THE BOOK: September 13, 2016

One story. Two couples.

I proposed on our first date.
She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.
It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…
Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.

Finally, we were successful…
Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.
They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.
The retrieval of my wife and our family.

REVIEW: RETRIEVAL is the first installment in Aly Martinez’s contemporary, adult THE RETRIEVAL DUET romantic, suspense duology focusing on two couples connected through deceit and betrayal.

Told from four first person points of view (Roman and Elisabeth Leblanc, Walt and Clare Noir) using present day timeline and flashbacks RETRIEVAL looks at infertility, loss, betrayal and heartbreak. Two years earlier Roman and Elisabeth’s life fell apart following years of infertility and the loss of their unborn son. Fast forward to present day wherein our now divorced couple will come face to face with their worst nightmare and the possibility that life as they know it is about to spiral out of control-once again.

We are introduced to Clare Noir, an abused and battered woman whose own life is a living h*ll thanks to a husband with issues of power and control- Clare will eventually cross paths with Roman and Elisabeth LeBlanc pulling our couple into a dark and dangerous path. What ensues are Roman’s attempts to get back the woman he loves, and put together the family that no longer exists- a second chance at love for two people lost to the memories of the past.

RETRIEVAL is a heartbreaking, intense and emotional story line involving two couples connected by deceit, betrayal and infertility. Aly Martinez pulls the reader into a story of suspense, mystery, loss and deception. The premise is passionate, controversial and intoxicating. The characters are tragic and broken as their struggle with what was and what may never be. The story line ends on a cliffhanger-you have been warned !

I like the author’s use of LeBlanc and Noir….White and Black….good vs evil- a definitive line has been drawn between the characters and not just via the story line premise.

excerpt

“Where’d you get beer?” Elisabeth asked as she scrambled from the couch.
“Seth,” I replied, hanging my head and rubbing my eyes.
Jesus, I’d wanted to kiss her. She was being a bitch, spouting shit she didn’t mean just because she was too scared to let me in.
But, even through it, those plump lips were calling to me.
I’d never been able to resist that woman. Despite that we’d fallen apart, it hadn’t changed. The hum for her was still in my veins. It never went away, but for two years, it had been dormant. I’d packed it down so tightly that I’d hoped it had died. But, with one look, my body began thrumming like a live wire.
“Seth?” she asked as she bent over to straighten her tight, black pencil skirt.
It was a rare occasion to catch Elisabeth in something other than a perfectly pressed skirt and a pair of heels. But she’d been sleeping all day. It was wrinkled all to hell and back. The only thing her efforts succeeded in was drawing my attention down to her legs.
Legs that had spent many nights wrapped around my hips as she came while crying my name.
Shit. I should go.
But, after the way she’d latched on to me that morning, I wasn’t going anywhere.
“My assistant,” I answered. “I had him pick you up a bottle of wine, too.”
She blinked. “You have an assistant? Who delivers you beer? And your ex-wife wine?”
“No, I have an assistant who does whatever the fuck I need him to do. And, luckily for us, beer and wine happen to fall into the whatever-the-fuck-I-need-him-to-do category tonight.” She fought back a smile as I finished, “So do gyros.”
“Damn. I need to get one of those,” she mumbled to herself.
I smirked. “Cash my checks and you could afford one.”
It was a dick move, bringing up the money right then. But, despite her expert hand in decorating, that little starter house we’d bought with rose-colored glasses now needed a shit-ton of work.
Her back shot ramrod straight, fury crinkling the corners of her eyes as she snarled, “I’m not cashing your checks.”
I shrugged. “Guess you’ll have to figure out how to get your own wine and dinner after tonight.”
“I think I can manage,” she fired back.
“Suit yourself.” I pushed off the couch and meandered to the kitchen.
I went to the fridge and leaned in, searching for anything I could snack on. With the exception of at least a dozen Tupperware containers, she didn’t have much in the way of a quick bite.
Snagging a handful of grapes from the drawer, I made a mental note to send Seth to the grocery store after he’d delivered dinner.
Popping the grapes in my mouth one by one, I felt her watching me in what could only be defined as silent awe. I decided my best move would be to ignore it. “You know, I should have invented Tupperware. You alone could keep me in business,” I told her, retrieving a beer and then shutting the door.
She scoffed then muttered, “At least then I would have benefitted from you abandoning our marriage.”
Lava fresh off the volcanoes in Hell boiled in my veins.
I cocked my head to the side and questioned, “I’m sorry. Come again?”
“You should go,” she snapped.
Think a-fucking-gain.
“Nah, I’m good. Got any movies?”
I tipped the bottle to my lips, doing my best to calm the storm brewing within me, all while still fighting the desire to take her to the floor, plant myself between her legs, and remind her how that fucking attitude affected me.
Clearly, she had forgotten.
My cock had not.
“Roman, it’s been a crazy day. Please don’t do this tonight.”
“Do what?” I asked, leaning back against the huge, granite island.
She threw her hands out to the sides in frustration. “What you always do.”
“What do I always do, Lissy?”
“This!” she yelled.
I frowned and took another pull from my beer. “Haven’t been in our kitchen, drinking beer, in a long time. I hardly think it’s fair to say I always do it.”
Her eyes nearly bulged from her head. “My kitchen, Roman. This is my kitchen. Not ours. And you know good and damn well that is not what I’m talking about.”
My lips twitched as I pointed the neck of my bottle at her. “No. What I know good and damn well is that I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Or why you’re slinging unnecessary and, might I add, undeserved attitude at me like a short-order cook at the bitch house.”
“He did not say that to me,” she whispered to herself.
When I lifted a shoulder in a half shrug, she swung a pointed finger toward the door and yelled, “Get out!”
I grinned, crossing my legs at the ankle. “You always were cranky when you were hungry.”
And that was the exact moment her head exploded.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: FIGHTING SOLITUDE is the third installment in Aly Martinez’s ON THE ROPES romance series focusing on the Page brothers. This is boxer Quarry Page, and Liv James’s story line- a best friends to lovers trope that covers a life time of regrets and sins. FIGHTING SOLITUDE can be read as a stand alone but for backstory and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Quarry and Liv) FIGHTING SOLITUDE follows the friendship between Quarry and Liv. At the tender ages of nine and ten Quarry and Liv became best friends and for years were inseparable until the day Quarry (in anger and fear) destroyed Liv’s trust. Three years would pass before Liv would be able to face the now eighteen year old man he had become but everything and everyone had changed-Quarry moved on but never forgot about the young girl wrapped tightly around his heart. Secrets are revealed; the past never forgotten; the future a minefield of possibilities. Liv must struggle with the knowledge that she can never compete with a memory-she may always be second best.

FIGHTING SOLITUDE begins with an unexpected death that changes Quarry and Liv’s lives then flashes back to the beginning where our story line couple are first introduced. Fifteen years of memories and events that blend together with the first two installments –FIGHTING SILENCE and FIGHTING SHADOWS-wherein the author reminds the reader about the events of the past. The Page brothers have suffered both physical, emotional and mental trauma, and Quarry must endure the family legacy both inside and outside of the ring. A chance at the world boxing championship finds our leading couple facing more than an opponent in the arena, but a threat against their personal lives, as well.

All of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting roles, as well as Liv’s father and step-mother. The requisite evil comes from two different directions.

FIGHTING SOLITUDE is an emotional and heartbreaking story line where Quarry must battle the demons from his past; a family pedigree of shame, guilt and loss; and fight for the woman he has loved most of his life. The premise is provocative and imaginative; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after.

beautiful young woman in an elegant dress studio shot

Excerpt beige

“Mia!” I shouted.
It was worthless. She’d been deaf since the day I met her.
She’d never once heard my voice.
She’d never heard the deep rumble of my laugh when she was excited, signing so fast I could barely keep up.
She’d never heard my content sigh when she barged into the locker room after a fight—just her presence soothed the lingering madness brewing within me.
She’d never heard me whispering my deepest fears into her ear as she fell asleep on top of me.
She’d never heard the reverence in which I cried her name each and every time I took her body.
And she’d never once heard the ease in which the words I love you tumbled from my lips as I stared into her deep, jade green eyes.
But as I screamed her name while watching her petite body seizing in the passenger seat beside me, I’d never needed her to hear me more.
“Mia. Oh God. I’ve got you, baby.”
She was still thrashing violently as I made my way around to her door, yanking it open while pleading with whatever god was willing to help.
When she stilled, a whole new level of silence filled the air around us. It wasn’t the absence of sound.
It was the absence of life.
“Mia, breathe!” I roared as her chest remained agonizingly still. “Help me!” I screamed at the closed emergency room doors, but no medical savior rushed out with the miracle I so desperately needed.
My hands shook wildly as I released her lifeless body from the seatbelt.
“I’ve got you, just hang on. Please just hang on, Mia,” I whispered lifting her into my arms and sprinting through the sliding doors. “I need a doctor! She’s not breathing!”
Nurses rushed towards me in slow motion as the seconds without air in her lungs passed at a terrifying speed.
Breathe.
A doctor appeared with a gurney and quickly took her from my arms.
The immediate loss was staggering.
Hope became my only solace.
She needed help that I wasn’t capable of giving her, but that didn’t stop me from following close behind as they rolled her away. I was on the verge of self-destructing; letting her out of my sight wasn’t an option.
I stood motionless in the doorway while doctors and nurses swarmed around her. Their mouths moved frantically, but without my hearing aids I was worthless to make out the words their faint voices carried.
I never wore my hearing aids when I was with Mia. There was no point. She rarely spoke with her voice.
We’d spent four years building a relationship with our hands.
Those hands had told me animated stories that made me laugh until my face hurt from smiling.
They’d fought with me relentlessly, but always ended the night raking down my back in silent ecstasy.
Her fingers had fluidly signed I love you more times than I could ever count—or forget.
But as I felt the nurse attempting to physically remove me from the room, my eyes became fixated on her limp hand dangling off the side of the bed. It was the only sight more frightening than watching her flail mid-seizure.
It ripped the heart straight from my chest.
That hand was supposed to be full of life.
It was the very essence of Mia.
Pale.
White.
Still.
Oh God.
Sucking in a deep breath, I held it until the room began to spin.
It provided me no relief even as it forced me to my knees.
There would be no distraction from this.
I was going to lose her.
Yet another woman I couldn’t save.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 26, 2015

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE FALL UP is a stand alone contemporary, adult romance from author Aly Martinez that focuses on two lost souls who found one another on the edge of a bridge one dark and lonely night. This is musician Levee Williams, and furniture builder Sam Rivers’s storyline.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Levee and Sam) THE FALL UP focuses on recovery, acceptance, grief and letting go. For several nights, Sam had watched as a young woman in disguise returned to ‘his’ bridge with what he believed were thoughts of suicide and ending her life. When Sam finally confronts the beautiful woman, they agree to meet one another in the same spot the next evening. What ensues is a slow build of a ‘friendship’ between two lost souls who find solace and peace overlooking the waters below.

THE FALL UP follows the building relationship between Levee and Sam. Sam is a tattooed and smoking bad boy who is lost in a world of guilt, while Levee is unable to get on with her life. Standing on the bridge together, Levee and Sam will discover that there is more to life when the one that you love is by your side. There is plenty of humor, sexual innuendo, friendly and sexy banter between Levee and Sam-something to offset what could have been a dark romantic storyline. . The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Levee’s best friend Henry; Sam’s BFF and lawyer Ryan, along with his sister Meg and Meg’s daughter Morgan. We are introduced to Sam’s supportive mother, and Levee’s less than enthusiastic parents. I am hoping that Henry, as well as Ryan each get their own storyline and a happily ever after.

The world building focuses on grief, depression and recovery, and the people who are affected by the choices people make every day of their lives–Real life issues in a fictional storyline

Aly Martinez’s THE FALL UP is amusing, impassioned, consuming and profound. The characters are believable and charismatic; the premise is heartwarming and inspiring; the romance is beautiful and intense. THE FALL UP is an emotional storyline that will touch your heart and your mind. The passion is comforting; the tenderness in intimate; the reality is true for many broken souls.

“You’re overdoing it, Lev. I know this job isn’t exactly nine-to-five, but it’s not twenty-four-seven, either. You have to stop being Levee Williams all the time and just be you.”
“I know,” I responded.
I didn’t though. I felt like a robot parading around in a lost woman’s body.
Smile.
Pose.
Turn.
Toss in the occasional song.
Repeat.
What little time I did manage to carve out for myself was spent at various children’s hospitals across the country.
Smile.
Pose.
Turn.
Watch a child die.
Repeat.
With every day that passed, the smile became less and less genuine, the pose more and more forced, and the turn took me further and further away from who I really was.
My career was soaring while, personally, I was plummeting. Every single day felt like a terrifying free fall in no particular direction. I was stuck in the middle with no way up—or down.
“You remember that girl, right?” Henry asked, tucking a hair behind my ear.
I nodded.
I did remember her. She was fun and carefree. She loved going out and dancing at nightclubs until the very last song played. She slept until noon if she could. Then, fueled by coffee alone, she’d spend the day with a guitar strapped around her neck and a notepad at her side. She had a huge heart, but she knew her limitations.
Oh, I remembered that girl. I just couldn’t figure out how to get back to her.
