Bane’s Choice (Vampire Motorcycle Club #1) by Alyssa Day – Dual Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
When a centuries-old vampire in search of redemption meets a doctor who’s on a mission of her own, a searing, world-destroying passion is the last thing on either of their minds.

Minds can be changed.

A doctor with secrets of her own is drawn to a dangerous predator in this pulse-pounding paranormal romance from New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Day.

What better way to hide the existence of vampires from humans than in plain sight? Thus, the Vampire Motorcycle Club was born. Bane, the 300-year-old vampire who leads the club, has fought for years to protect his kind. But the truth about vampires is not only that they exist, it is that they are creatures of pure desire. Conscience and restraint has been burned out of them by the process of Turning. Any woman Bane meets is either prey—or food.

Dr. Ryan St. Cloud finds out that vampires exist when one steals her patient out of the hospital right beneath her nose, leading her to question her own sanity. But when the dangerous man whose touch inflames her senses and whose gaze enthralls her comes to her for help, she is unable to refuse. Bane is a dangerous predator, but somewhere beneath his arrogance and power, she can see his heart—and she knows it could belong to her if she is strong enough to claim it. She is bound to a vampire, but loving her would be … Bane’s Choice.

Barb’s Review:

Bane’s Choice by Alyssa Day is the first book in her new Vampire Motorcycle Club series.  I have been a huge fan of Alyssa’s Atlantis series, and I did not know what to expect from this new series. I am happy to say I absolutely loved Bane’s Choice.

Bane, our hero, is a 300-hundred-year-old vampire, who runs Savannah, as well as the Vampire Motorcycle Club; the Club is mostly humans and vampires (though the humans do not know what they are), who help those in need of medicine.  Bane and his sister run the fund raisers to spend money to purchase the medicines for the poor.  When Bane’s human firefighter friend is near death from being seriously burned, Bane kidnaps him from the hospital and to save his life begins the transformation to a vampire.  Before Bane leaves the hospital, he is accosted by a beautiful woman, who threatens him to leave the man alone, as she is a doctor.  When he tries to compel her, he sees that it is not working, and also notices she is glowing a bit.  Who is this woman he cannot control?

Dr. Ryan St. Cloud, our heroine, doesn’t understand when she asks everyone in the hospital to find the patient, only to discover no one has ever heard of this patient (vampires can erase memory). In a short time, Ryan herself is kidnapped and brought to Bane, who cannot get this woman out of his mind; as he begins to feel things for her, especially those he has not had for all these years.

While this is going on, there are evil warlocks and sorcerers who try to do mind control on a group of werewolves to kill and destroy Bane and his team and take over Savannah and all of Georgia.  Bane manages to meet with the werewolf leader to work together to stop the warlocks, as war is on the horizon. Ryan did not understand why she was in this house with Bane, Meara, and their team; to her utmost surprise, they tell her they are vampires, which she laughs off.  But learns quickly that vampires do exist, as do werewolves, warlocks, necromancers and many other paranormal beings.  This was pretty funny when she begins to believe them, and ends up trying to help Bane’s friends, as well as begin to fall hard for Bane, who is already unable to let her go.  The chemistry between them was sizzling, and so much fun to watch them together.  I loved Bane’s team, especially his sister, as Day has created a wonderful group of secondary characters.

Bane was a wonderful hero, who at first was rough and unbending, willing to kill anyone who stands in his way; but once Ryan comes into his life, he is determined to keep the woman who has opened his heart.  Ryan was a very good heroine, independent, smart, savvy and feisty, willing to stand up and fight on her own.  We will learn why she does glow.

Bane’s Choice was a fun, exciting, action filled romantic adventure, with a great couple, and wonderful secondary characters; as well as evil villains.  I look forward to seeing what Alyssa Day has in store for us in the future books.  If you enjoy paranormal romance thrillers, I suggest you read Bane’s Choice.

•••••••••••

Sandy’s Review: BANE’S CHOICE is the first instalment in Alyssa Day’s contemporary, adult VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE CLUB paranormal, romance series. This is three hundred year old vampire, and VMC president Bane, and physician Dr. Ryan St. Cloud’s story line.

Told from several third person perspectives including Bane and Ryan BANE’S CHOICE follows the building romance between three hundred year old vampire, and VMC president Bane, and physician Dr. Ryan St. Cloud. Bane’s friend Hunter Evans was burned so badly he would never survive but a quick trip to the hospital to bring home his friend, is anything but when Bane comes face to face with Dr. Ryan St. Cloud, and finds himself in a stand off with a feisty woman who may or may not be completely human. Unable to control her mind, Bane quickly realizes that there is much more to Ryan than he could have imagined. Hoping to see Dr. St. Cloud again, Bane sets out to locate the woman that stirs something deep within our story line hero but all is not well in Bane’s territory when warlocks, necromancers, and a group that call themselves the Chamber enter into a battle to take over Bane’s territory. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bane and Ryan, and the potential fall-out as the fight for Bane’s territory pulls Ryan in as collateral damage.

Ryan St. Cloud is a physician but has no idea that she is something more. Quickly accepting the existence of vampires and werewolves, Ryan’s jump into the supernatural quickly turns onto herself when she defends the man and the family with whom she is falling in love. Bane is the President of the Vampire Motorcycle Club, a biker club hiding in plain sight although a number of their members are only human. Never having fallen in love, Bane is caught off-guard when he meets Dr. Ryan St. Cloud, a woman who is more than she appears to be. Believing Ryan is his fated mate, Bane goes all alpha and over protective but it is Ryan’s power that will that will draw trouble to their front door.

The relationship between Ryan and Bane is one of immediate attraction but Ryan struggled with Bane’s ‘kidnapping’ of her severely injured patient. Unable to explain their palpable sexual attraction, Ryan moves into Bane’s mansion in an effort to stay close to the injured man. As Ryan and Bane’s attraction builds, threats from an outside source release Ryan’s power, and with it the realization about who and what our heroine might be. The Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Bane’s family: vampires Meara, Edge and Luke as well as their human housekeepers Mr. and Mrs. C. There is a large assortment of werewolves including alpha Carter Reynolds of the Wolf Pack MC. The requisite evil has many faces including warlocks, necromancer and members of the group known as The Chamber.

BANE’S CHOICE is a story of betrayal and revenge; secrets, magic, power and control. The premise is engaging but struggles between sluggish and energetic; the romance is intimate; the characters are energetic and dynamic-Ryan’s need to call it she sees is often fun and snarky.

I would like to add that the ‘motorcycle club’ aspect of the story line is limited, and definitely not akin to the usual MC story lines. The motorcycle club plot point is negligible, and more of a background element than anything else.

Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day – a Review

Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day – a Review

Christmas in AtlantisAmazon / B&N / Kobo

Description:
The Gift of the Magi…in Atlantis

Warrior-turned-pirate Dare is the black sheep of all Atlantis. He’s enraged Poseidon, the sea god, so much that he had to forfeit his ship and the water spirit who inhabits it. For Dare, being denied the ocean is worse than death. Until he meets a woman who drowns him in waves of hunger more powerful than the sea.

After the accident that killed her parents and blinded her, Lyric discovered she had a special gift—that of song sight. She now sees the world in her own unique way, and is able to discover the rarest of artifacts. One, containing a single Wish, could make all her dreams come true. Or it could deliver to Dare—the man she’s falling in love with—the thing he most desires.

It’s the season of miracles in Atlantis. A chance to make wishes come true . . .

But whose wish?

Review:

Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day is part of her new Poseidon’s Warriors series, in which she will be doing a book in every month of 2018.  We can look forward to more fun in Atlantis with some of our favorites from the past (Warriors of Poseidon).  Christmas in Atlantis was a fun quick paranormal romance that you can enjoy and finish in one sitting.

We meet our hero, Dare, on his ship as they are trying to survive a terrible storm. Dare and his water spirit, Seranth do everything they can to save the crew, as well as asking the Sea God, Poseidon for help.  But when Dare goes overboard, he calls for the Atlantis portal to escape.

Lyric Fielding is our heroine, who is blind and a famous painter; she is also a gem singer.   Lyric has been dating Dare for 5 years, and knows that she has fallen in love with him.  She has been anxiously waiting almost a year for him to return home from his trip, and plans to approach him about her feelings.

Dare ends up at Lyric’s house all wet, and feverish.  Lyric takes care of him, and during his feverish ramblings, he professes his love.  What follows is a sweet romance, with a wonderful couple, especially Lyric, who was a fun and brave heroine.  Dare will bring Lyric to Atlantis, fulfilling a dream for her and it is there that the fun begins for us when we see most of our favorites from Atlantis.  Lyric was in her glory being in Atlantis, and meeting Queen Riley and the others, who welcomes her openly.  Dare was beside himself when he learns that Poseidon was taking away his ship and his water spirit.  Will Lyric and Dare stay together?  Will Dare find a way to get his beloved ship back?

Being a huge fan of Warriors of Poseidon, I was thrilled that Alyssa would be bringing us back to Atlantis. Christmas in Atlantis was a fun read, with a heroine that was so likable; a romance that was heartwarming, filled with love and sacrifice, as well as enjoying the wonderful secondary characters.  If you enjoy a sweet pure romance, some excitement and a great couple, I suggest you read Christmas in Atlantis. Thank you Alyssa for bringing us back home to Atlantis.

Dead Eye by Alyssa Day – a Review

Dead Eye by Alyssa Day – a Review

Dead EyeAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
For Jack Shepherd, tiger shape-shifter and former soldier, life is heading for a dead end. Dead End, Florida, to be exact. When he learns that he inherited a combination pawn shop/private investigation agency from his favorite uncle, Jack’s first job is to solve his uncle’s murder. Because sometimes it takes a tiger’s eye to see the truth.

Review:

Dead Eye by Alyssa Day is the 1st book in her new Tiger’s Eye Series. I am a big fan of Alyssa’s Warriors of Poseidon series. I was thrilled to find out one of our favorite characters in that series was going to get his own story. Dead Eye is Jack’s series, which he will be the lead with Tess, our heroine.

Jack returns home to Dead Eye, Florida and finds out his uncle was murdered. He hasn’t seen Tess, who was a kid when he left many years ago, and he is surprised to see a beautiful young woman. Jack inherits with Tess, the town pawn shop and a private investigation business. He learns from Tess about witches and a crooked sheriff, who are possibly behind his uncle’s murder, not to mention more murders that will come. Together both Jack and Tess will put their lives in danger to find out the truth, and stop the powerful witch.

Anything more would be spoilers. It was great to see Jack again, and I really like Tess, who played a major role in this book. We can tell that Jack and Tess find themselves attracted to each other, but this is a slow build romance that we expect will be explored further in the next book. The last half of the book, was very exciting, and I sat on the edge of my seat to reach the tense climax.

This series will revolve around Jack’s Tiger’s Eye private investigation business, which will keep him in Dead Eye with Tess. I look forward to the next book of this series, and what Alyssa Day has in store for us with Jack and Tess.

Alyssa Day – The Cursed – Guest Post & Giveaway

Alyssa Day – The Cursed – Guest Post & Giveaway

Guest Post=Black and Red

Bordertown PI Luke Oliver’s beat is the dimensional fold in Manhattan between the human, Fae, and demon realms.  It doesn’t hurt to be a powerful wizard when you’ve got a job like that—and when everybody is trying to force you to be Sheriff.  But an old enemy has come back to town, and the League of the Black Swan is trying to force Luke to do its bidding.

It’s never a good idea to try to force a wizard to do anything.

Rio—last name unknown, although she likes to try on new ones on a daily basis—got trapped by circumstances and an overblown sense of responsibility into trying to save the life of a kidnapped child.  But suddenly the Fae and demons are paying way too much attention to a plain vanilla human, and one seriously hot alpha male wizard is breathing down her neck.  Literally.

My new book, THE CURSED, is the first in my new series, The League of the Black Swan.  Luke has been trying to isolate himself from people as much as possible—and quit blowing up their cars—but then the League drops Rio into his life, and she’s the one woman he cannot resist.

Soon, supernatural creatures are creating danger, mayhem, and a little bit of hilarity, as Rio and Luke fight to save one small girl, all of Bordertown, and possibly themselves, while fighting a passion so sizzling hot that it might set the whole place on fire.

And did I mention the fire demons?

So if you were running for your life from the kind of creep who keeps Grendels on staff (what? You thought there was only one??), and you could only access ONE magical potion, what would it do?

My ideas:

1. Magically make the hot wizard’s clothes disappear! Whee! (Danger? What danger?)

2. Invisibility potion! (Hot invisible sexiness! What? Didn’t you read Atlantis Betrayed? <g>)

3. A little magical nip and tuck (What? Too shallow?)

Hmm.  Maybe I’m no good at this! Why don’t YOU let me know what potion we need?

Hugs,
Alyssa

The cursed

Luke’s mouth came down on hers, silencing whatever she’d been about to say, and the world went up in flames around her.  Blue flames, the color of his eyes and his magic fire, seared through Rio’s nerve endings until she trembled from pure, crystallized sensation.  She forgot how to talk, or think, or breathe, and simply surrendered to the feeling, kissing him back until she grew lightheaded from lack of oxygen and pulled back, gasping.

“What was that?”  She managed to get the words out between deep breaths, but he didn’t answer.

Instead, he touched her hair, and then pushed a strand behind her ear and traced the edge of her ear with his finger, and she inhaled brokenly at the jagged edge of desire that dug into her.  Heat pooled between her legs, and her body tightened and ached for his touch.

“I have to slow down now,” he finally said, his voice rough, just when she was about to throw caution—and her clothes—to the wind.  “I have to back away from you right now, or I’ll lift your sexy little ass up onto my kitchen counter and take you right here.”

Part of her thought that was a really wonderful idea.  The other part of her, drummed into her brain for years, was horrified by her wanton behavior.

Rio liked the first part better.

Luke and Rio, with the help of the newly reformed League, must keep evil forces from taking over Bordertown—all the while battling a passion on the razor’s edge between danger and desire. And going to take everything they have just to stay alive.

Review:

I am a big fan of Alyssa Day, as I loved her Warriors of Poseidon series.  With her new release, The Cursed, the first book in her new series, The League of the Black Swan, I am thrilled to say that Alyssa has done it again.  The Cursed, whereas totally different then WOP, is a great start to a fantastic new series. Day has done a magnificent job on world building, which includes wonderful characters; the fictional town of Bordertown, a supernatural realm hidden in NY, with magic, and habited by wizards, paranormal beings, demons, grendels, goblins, immortals, and the Fae.

The story begins with our heroine Rio Jones, who works as a bicycle messenger, who one night witnesses a kidnapping.  Rio finds herself frightened, and runs to the one person who can help her find the kidnapped girl, not to mention protect Rio. Luke Oliver, is our hero, and someone all of Bordertown fears and respects; who is also a wizard.

Right from the start, I loved Luke and Rio together, as they made such an awesome couple.  Both have fought their attraction to each other for awhile, but helping Rio forces Luke to realize he cannot avoid her anymore.  Their scenes together are hot, as well as having quite a bit of humor.   The whole book had a lot of humor, and was fun, in between the tense battles.

Without giving any spoilers, the crux of the story is Rio’s upcoming birthday, and why is everyone interested in that? Both Luke and Rio are stumped, but whatever it is, brings the unknown and possible danger to Rio. As the story heads to the climatic exciting ending, you can’t put the book down until you discover everything.  Alyssa brought us some great lovable characters, Luke (so swoonworthy), Rio (super kickass heroine) , Kit (who is magical, different and an awesome cool character), and Alice ( the woman of many very funny faces). There are other interesting characters like Merelith, Chance, Maestro that maybe are not as nice, but interesting nevertheless.  But it is Luke and Rio, whom you fall in love with (also Kit), and you will become totally invested in what happens to them, not to mention their hot sex scenes.

I love the idea that Alyssa will bring all of them back, as the series will continue with Luke and Rio, and hopefully many of the wonderful characters we want to learn even more about.  The Cursed is a wonderful start to a wonderful new series by Alyssa Day.
