ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 7, 2015

Limits were made to be pushed.

Abby West has everything she wanted: a family, a skyrocketing new career, and a sexy, Dominant husband who fulfills her every need. Only, as her life outside the bedroom becomes hectic, her Master’s sexual requirements inside become more extreme. Abby doesn’t understand Nathaniel’s increased need for control, but she can’t deny the delicious way her body reacts to his tantalizing demands…

Between Abby’s reluctance and Nathaniel’s unyielding commands, the delicate balance of power between the Dominant and his submissive threatens to shift. And as the underlying tension and desire between them heats up, so does the struggle to keep everything they value from falling apart …

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE ENTICEMENT is the fourth full length installment in Tara Sue Me’s adult, contemporary The Submissive erotic, romance series focusing on billionaire Dominant Nathaniel West, and his wife and submissive Abby King-West. The Submissive Series follows our couple from their first meeting where Abigail King offers herself up as the submissive to Nathaniel West-CEO of West Industries and a Dom looking for a new submissive.

Told from first person point of view (Abby West) THE ENTICEMENT fast forwards the series several years. Nathaniel and Abby are now married, with two young children, under the age of four. In the ensuing time, our couple has pushed aside their BDSM weekend role play to focus on raising a family but the time has come for Nathaniel to reassert his Dominance and control over his submissive. When an opportunity presents itself, Nathaniel requests of Abby one week, 24/7, of submission-something never before endeavored in their marriage or BDSM relationship.

The dynamics of Nathaniel and Abby’s relationship are changing. From D/s to husband and wife, and parents, Nathaniel struggles with his wife’s recent online success- his need to dominate is all encompassing. Knowing his wife needs to submit to her Dom, Nathaniel pushes the boundaries of their BDSM relationship making all of Abby’s fantasies and wishes come true.

The BDSM scenes are sexually graphic; Abby is an exhibitionist whose need to perform finds Nathaniel introducing several voyeurs into their BDSM role play. With the introduction, there is a cross-over between Tara Sue Me’s PARTNERS IN PLAY erotic BDSM series and The Submissive Trilogy. We will become reacquainted with Abby’s very pregnant best friend Felicia and her husband (Nathaniel’s cousin) Jackson; as well as Julie and Daniel (Seduced by Fire); and Dominant Jeff whose specialty is bondage and rope play. The cross-over appears to be in preparation for the continuation of Partners in Play, as well as the future appearances of Abby and Nathaniel in the aforementioned series.

The world building continues to focus on the BDSM lifestyle; the rules, the role playing, and the participants. Nathaniel’s need to control his submissive straddles a thin line; a grey area where, at times, the consent is questionable especially as it pertained to The Master’s anger, and his need to punish and control. Through it all, there is no question that Nathaniel is in love with Abby King-West.

I did have a few problems with this particular storyline including dubious consent, issues of honesty and trust, and raising a young family while participating in the BDSM lifestyle both in and out of the home. The 24/7 Dom/sub lifestyle is not conducive to a couple with a young family and in this, the children were constantly shipped off to family and friends. Abby and Nathaniel are BDSM mentors and as such, demonstrate role play to newbies but their latest mentoring is a little more aggressive and demonstrative than perhaps is necessary as an introduction into the lifestyle and role play. I think any new submissive would have be frightened with the graphic demonstration by our leading couple.

THE ENTICEMENT is an interesting and passionate read that focuses on the struggling issues within a marriage built upon a foundation of Dominance and submission. At some point, the façade will begin to crack, withdrawal and desire begin to blur, and in this ‘sub drop’ overwhelms the senses. The highs and lows may be too much to handle. There are moments of betrayal and trust; seduction and need; intimacy and love. Tara Sue Me continues to invite the reader into the BDSM lifestyle –one Dominant and submissive couple-at a time.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 17, 2015

He’ll keep her safe…but who will protect her from him?
Fixer Sara Reaver is in serious trouble. She’s stepped on the wrong toes, and now her uncle is sending her out of the city in an effort to keep her safe—and he’s assigning her a glorified babysitter. The last person she expects to show up is the gorgeous Z, or for him to tempt her and then reject her in the space of a single night. Twice. Now she’s out to prove to him just how good they’d fit up together in every way imaginable.

Mercenary Z Loreto hates protection jobs, but he’s willing to make an exception for his best friend’s little sister. The only problem is she calls up things he’s been doing his damnedest to keep under wraps for the last seven years. But when she pushes him too far, it all comes rushing to the fore, and the fact she’s willing to submit to his every desire only makes the loss of control sweeter.

Sara and Z have a boatload of issues between them, but they’re sure they can make things work if they take it one day at a time… Right up until things spiral beyond their control. Now Z’s playing for keeps in a big way, and Sara’s got to decide if a chance at true happiness is worth the risk of repeating history.

REVIEW: PROTECTING FATE by Katee Robert is the sixth installment in the adult, contemporary SERVE erotic romance series, written by Tessa Baily and Katee Robert, focusing on a group of friends and family who frequent the BDSM club SERVE. This is security expert, former soldier, and mercenary Zebadiah ‘Z’ Loreto, and ‘fixer’ Sara Reaver’s storyline. Although PROTECTING FATE is the sixth in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is imparted where necessary.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline focuses on protecting Sara from a threat. As a fixer, she tends to make a few people angry and in this, her life has been threatened for raising the ire of the wrong people. Sara’s Uncle Rodger and her brother Garrett have some connections and have hired a ‘babysitter’ to protect their niece and sister. Enter Z Loreto-a former soldier and a man who is all business but finds himself attracted to his latest charge.

Sara is a submissive in the bedroom and she wants to spend her last night of freedom at SERVE-the local BDSM club where she and her brothers are members. Sara had not expected to come face to face with the man in charge of her protection-a sexy, hardened warrior who knows a thing or two about domination. When Sara’s apartment is trashed, Z moves Sara out of town for her own protection.

Z is a man with a past; a history in the BDSM scene that has left him raw, damaged and vulnerable. Secluded in a safe house with Sara, their relationship becomes more personal as Sara pushes Z in more ways than one. As the days and weeks pass, Z’s need to protect Sara is more than professional; it becomes a need; a part of his heart as he begins to fall for the woman in his care and his bed. The $ex scenes are intimate, compelling and with a little bit of kink on the side.

The secondary and supporting characters include a few of the previous storyline couples including Sara’s brothers Garrett and Will, and Garrett’s fiancé Ridley, as well as Uncle Rodger who is all about protecting his family and friends.

The world building continues to follow the BDSM lifestyle at SERVE. There are no hard-core scenarios; most of the bondage and discipline scenes are light and meted with affection and love, and take place off the premise of the club. Z’s mercenary lifestyle comes into play when he is called away on another mission but we know very little about what goes on behind the scenes-I would have liked to learned more about what happened while he was away but the storyline focused more on Sara (back home). There is also an issue (for me) with the quick resolution to the threats against Sara; very little is mentioned after the first couple of chapters and then everything is back to normal with a phone call and a promise. In this, the suspense was lacking and the threats were barely an issue.

The SERVE series is co-written (three books each) by Katee Robert and Tessa Baily with each storyline focusing on a different couple who are members of the BDSM scene and club SERVE. Although the story lines are connected, they are NOT interconnected in such a way that cohesion and understanding are a problem. Each story ends with a happily ever after and a look towards the future. Katee Robert adds a little bit of romance, suspense and angst to the series with Z and Sara’s storyline.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 6, 2015

Unlike the heroine of her popular thriller series, Georgia Delaune can’t afford to take risks or push sexual boundaries—unless you count spying through her neighbor’s bedroom window, and never missing a single move he makes.

Colby Wilkes is more than willing to put on a show for the alluring woman next door. But his dominant side aches to show her the pleasures of submission up close. As a counselor, Colby is sensitive to Georgia’s fears. As a Dom at The Ranch, a private BDSM retreat, he’s the perfect teacher to unleash her passion.

But just as Georgia lowers her emotional barriers, an unexpected complication arrives: a bad boy musician from Colby’s past who adds fuel to her heated imagination. Now, the lonely author has two gorgeous men eager to fulfill every fantasy she’s ever written—and one she’s never dared to dream…

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: NOTHING BETWEEN US is the latest full length installment in Roni Loren’s contemporary, adult Loving on the Edge erotic, romance series. This is Dominant Colby Wilkes, author Georgia Delaune and musician Adam Keats’s storyline- a BDSM love triangle where one woman will learn to let go with the two men in her life. NOTHING BETWEEN US can be read as a stand alone although there is some reference to previous storyline characters and the opening scene is taken from an earlier story.

Told from several alternating third person points of view NOTHING BETWEEN US focuses on three people: Dom Colby Wilkes-a part time high school counselor, and trainer at the local BDSM club The Ranch; Georgia Delaune-an author and shut in whose life has been put on hold by a stalker whose need to control forces Georgia into hiding to protect her life; and musician Adam Keats-a twenty three year old man and former student of Colby’s who finds himself the target of an ex girlfriend and her drug dealer, h*ll bent on revenge. Our trio will quickly become friends that will turn into something more when need and desire are fueled by proximity and trust.

Roni Loren continues her BDSM theme throughout the storyline but never crosses over into hard core territory. The partners are always aware, always willing and always honest when it comes to what they want and how far they will go. Each of the storyline players is facing a personal crisis-a past that refuses to let go- that could tip the balance of power and need, but in the end it is the support and love of one another where the emotional dynamics will come into play.

The sexual imagery is visually graphic with scenes of M/F, M/M and M/F/M. There are moments of domination and submission, followed by commitment and love. All three go into the relationship looking for something different but in the end it is love, trust and understanding that heightens the bonds of their ties and connection to one another.

The writing style is simple and easy to understand. There are no complicated or confusing scenarios; Georgia and Adam are both willing to risk their own happiness for the sake of the other but it is Colby, as the Dominant, who is not willing to risk either one. He understands that everyone needs time to accept the world and everything it has to offer, but he is not above helping to push his lovers in the right direction.

Roni Loren’s stories of domination and submission are intimate, provocative and emotional. There are moments of controversy, passionate declarations and dramatic reminders that not everything is right with the world but in the end there is hope for the future when love is the dominant factor between consenting adults and honorable friends.

Turning Up The Heat (Sweet Temptation #2) by Ashley Lister-a review

TURNING UP THE HEAT (Sweet Temptation #2) by Ashley Lister

Turning Up the Heat

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 30, 2014

The second book in the passionate Sweet Temptation trilogy.

Bill and Trudy’s tempestuous relationship veers from hurling insults in the kitchen to intense passion in the bedroom. The love/hate rollercoaster is made worse by a new revelation:

Bill also has an ex-wife whom he neglected to mention. To throw oil onto the flames Donny is back and more determined than ever to hammer a wedge between the couple and ruin their business.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TURNING UP THE HEAT is the second installment in Ashley Lister’s adult, contemporary Sweet Temptation erotic romance trilogy focusing on renowned chef and restaurant owner Bill Hart and baking entrepreneur Trudy Cole. Because it is the second of three installments TURNING UP THE HEAT should not be read as a stand alone; there is important information that has been revealed in book one-A Taste of Passion. As it pertains to the erotic element, there are several scenes of bondage and discipline: sometimes as punishment, but always with love.

The premise follows Bill and Trudy’s building relationship-one that began as a hot and sexy one night affair but grew into something more. Bill likes things a little kinky in the bedroom; he is a dominant and Trudy is ripe as his submissive. As a popular chef Bill’s business takes him out of town for days at a time and Trudy is left behind to run the restaurant while managing her own career and up start business. But threats are made by Trudy’s former friend and college roommate Donny that could directly affect Trudy’s up and coming Sweet Temptations café-a business in which she is partnered with her best friends. Donny wants a percentage of the profits because he was originally a part of the concept and design. Trudy’s refusal to accept Donny as partner finds the media one step ahead with allegations of lies, sex parties and paparazzi stalking.

The relationship between Bill and Trudy is one of mutual satisfaction, need and desire. Trudy is a submissive in the bedroom and with all things sex; she needs the affirmation of Bill’s dominance and he is more than willing to give Trudy what she needs. But in this there is some questionable concerns because Bill demands the truth at all times; will punish when he discovers a lie and yet he is one to keep secret something that will break Trudy’s heart and crush her soul.

The supporting and secondary characters include all of the previous storyline players including Bill’s ex wife whose past will catch up and destroy any chance at happiness for Trudy and Bill. Trudy’s former roommates and some times friends continue to wreak havoc in her life-from gossip to innuendo; lies and stretching the truth. Donny’s need for retribution will place Trudy’s reputation on the line when she is called to answer the allegations-time and again.

TURNING UP THE HEAT is a sexy, erotic romance storyline about two people whose lives revolve around food and sex. There are moments of tenderness and passion; dominance and control; exploration and experimentation. But everything is for nothing when the man that Trudy loves sets her up for heartbreak and betrayal leaving the storyline on a cliff hanger of epic proportions (I will add I saw this coming but, never the less, it was still a jolt to the system)

••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: NOT UNTIL YOU is the latest full length storyline in Roni Loren’s LOVING ON THE EDGE contemporary, adult erotic romance series. Originally released as an eight part serial storyline NOT UNTIL YOU focuses on Master Ian Foster and reluctant submissive twenty three year old Marcela (Cela) Medina. Although this is the latest book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters make cameo appearances. Any important information to the current storyline is imparted where necessary. NOTE: There are some M/F/M scenes as well as implied M/M/M/F situations.

Told from alternating points of view including Cela and third person, NOT UNTIL YOU follows recent graduate of veterinary medicine Cela Medina. On the night of her graduation, good girl Cela wrote a list of ‘to dos’ including seducing and having sex with her two sexy and older neighbors- rock star Pike, and CEO and business owner Ian Foster. What Cela never expected was to fall in love with a man whose need for control reaches beyond the obvious. Cela is an innocent and Foster’s needs may be too much to handle.

The relationship between our trio begins as a one night stand and graduation celebration where Cela will succeed with most of her ‘to do’ list but Cela’s attraction to Foster goes beyond friends with benefits. Both Foster and Pike are men with dark pasts, rooted in abuse, neglect, loss and betrayal, and in this their lifestyles reflect the need for control. It is Foster’s need to control and protect Cela that forces the man to push Cela away. Something from his past controls his present and Cela is a reminder of everything that went wrong.

NOT UNTIL YOU is a storyline that is very familiar to fans of the billionaire Dom and the virginal submissive scenarios. We follow as Foster pulls Cela into his world of leather, bondage and his need to dominate both inside and outside of the bedroom. Cela is a young woman whose sexual experience is limited but Foster will show her what it is they both need and want. The sex scenes are intimate, passionate and exploratory. There are no hard core BDSM scenes although Foster’s anger does fuel one particular scenario of S&M.

The secondary characters include Cela’s family (and brother Andre Medina whose story was told in MELT INTO YOU) as well as friends and Foster’s inner circle in the BDSM scene. The world building brings the reader behind the scenes of an exclusive BDSM club known as The Ranch as well as getting up close and personal with Foster’s dark past and his all consuming need to protect.

Roni Loren’s LOVING ON THE EDGE series continues to explore the BDSM lifestyle intertwining romance, love and a happily ever after. All of her characters are wholly aware of the situation and no one is ever forced into something they do not want to do. There are emotional moments of realization; heartbreak and letting go, but in the end, it is love, that has the ultimate control of the other’s heart and soul.

NOT UNTIL YOU
By Roni Loren
CHAPTER 1“Andre, this isn’t a good time. Can I call you back?”
I did my best not to let my cell phone slip from between my ear and shoulder. Just don’t drop the tequila. I adjusted the enormous bottle my friend, Bailey, had given me as a graduation present from my right hand to beneath my left arm and tried to dig my keys out of my purse so I could open the main door to my apartment building.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to make it, Cela,” my older brother said, his guilt obviously trumping my request to call him later. “I got caught at an investigation site this morning. I thought I’d be able to get there in time, but we had a witness wanting to talk and….”
I cursed silently as my keys hit the pavement. I crouched down, doing my best not to flash my underwear to anyone who may be passing by. “Really, it’s fine. They called my name. I walked across the stage and got a piece of paper and a sash for being summa cum laude. Papá yelled my name like he was at a baseball game instead of a ceremony. Mamá cried. We all went to lunch at Rosario’s and then the two of them headed back to the airport. Not that interesting.”
My brother’s heavy sigh said everything. I almost felt guilty that he felt so guilty. “Before you move back home next month, we’re getting together to celebrate. My baby sister, the doctor. I’m so proud I could burst.”
I smiled. I did like the sound of that. Dr. Marcela Medina, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Seven years of exams and studying and clinics, but it was finally done. Now it was time to leave Dallas and head back home to Verde Pass and take up the slack in my dad’s practice.
That last part had my smile faltering a bit. I hooked my key ring with my finger and wobbled back to a stand. “That’s sounds great. But I really have to get going. I have my hands full and need to get through the door.”
“Cela, you know better than to carry too much. Parking lots at night are one of the most dangerous places for women. Are you holding your mace?” he asked, his voice going into that bossy cop tone I was all too familiar with.
“It’s in my hand,” I lied, trying to remember where I’d stowed the last little canister he’d given me—probably in my junk drawer. “But I don’t have a free hand to pull the door open.”
“All right,” he said, placated. “Congratulations again. I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
The phone call ended but I didn’t have a way to take the phone off my ear, so I just shuffled forward in a sideways hunch, trying to juggle everything I was holding to get my key into the door. After two attempts, I got the lock turned and pressed my back against the glass door to push my way into the lobby.
As soon as I’d cleared the entrance and turned toward the stairs, male voices sounded behind me. Of course someone would show up right after I didn’t need help anymore. I peeked back to see who it was, Andre’s danger warnings still echoing in my head, but found something more distracting than criminals—my neighbors, Foster and Pike.
Foster stepped through the main door first and glanced my way. As usual, everything went melty inside me, his smile like a zap of heat to my system. Ridiculous. “Need some help, neighbor?”
I straightened, but forgot about my phone in the process. My brand new I-
Phone went sliding off my shoulder.
“Crap!” I lurched forward, trying to save it from its imminent demise, and accidentally dropped my plastic bag of Chinese takeout on the way.
“Whoa, there.” Pike, Foster’s roommate, was at my side in a second. His hand caught my elbow, saving me from losing the ginormous bottle of liquor along with my balance. But my phone clattered to the ground, the harsh sound mixing with the splat of my noodles hitting tile.
I winced, anticipating a broken screen. “Dammit.”
Foster bent down, his tie brushing the ground as he swept my phone off the floor. He peered at the screen, dark brows lowering over pale eyes, then he turned the phone toward me—the happy puppy screensaver staring back at me in tact. “All is well. Luckily, these things are built to take a licking.”
My brain got snagged on the work lick, and the back of my neck went hot. My lips parted, but words failed me. Great, imitate a gaping goldfish–that’s cute.
Pike cleared his throat, easing the tequila from my arms, and then crouched down near the open bag at my feet. He grabbed a noodle from the spilled box of Chinese food, tipped his head back and dropped it into his mouth, his eyes watching mine. “The lo mein’s a loss, though.”
I swallowed hard, his gaze even more bad boy than the tattoos peeking out from his open collar. His pierced tongue snaked around the noodle. Look away. I forced my face upward, but then ended up focusing on Foster again. Say something. God, I was standing there like an idiot. This was why I always avoided these two like they were contagious. They made me go stupid.
Foster held out my phone, and I managed to take it, the slight brush of his fingers against mine hitting the reset button in my brain. I managed a feeble, “Thank you.”
Foster glanced at the mess on the floor. “I’m really sorry I said anything. I didn’t mean to distract you from your intricate juggling act.”
I shook my head. “No, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been trying to carry everything at once. It’s been a long day, and I was hoping to save myself a second trip up the stairs.”
“The joys of a walk-up.” Pike grabbed a few napkins and started cleaning up the noodles at my feet like it was his mess to worry about.
“Oh, you don’t have to do that.” I lowered down to my knees. “I’ll take care of it.”
He grinned over at me, the mirror opposite of his roommate. Ian Foster was all suits and dark looks—a man who preferred to be called by his surname. Whereas, Pike didn’t seem to even have a last name. He was a drummer in some popular local band—jeans, a sex-on-the-mind-smile, and spiked, bleached hair his usual uniform. Not that I had studied either of them. Or listened to their escapades through the wall I shared with them. Not at all.
Keep telling yourself that, Cela.
Despite my protest, Pike helped me finish picking up the mess. “So what’s the big ass bottle of tequila for? No one could’ve had that bad of a day.”
I glanced over at the bottle I’d set on the floor, debating whether I could be trusted to have normal conversation with these two without sounding like I had a speech impediment. “I, uh, graduated today. It was a gift.”
“Oh, right on.”
“Congratulations, Cela,” Foster said. Just the sound of him saying my name in that smooth, dark voice had my stomach clenching. He was all southern refinement, but I didn’t miss the glimmer of a drawl underneath it all.
Ay dios mio. My body clamored to attention like an eager Labrador ready to be petted. Down, girl. These guys were way above my pay grade. I wasn’t dumb or delusional. I’d seen/spied on/secretly hated the women who’d passed through their apartment door—women who looked like they’d earned their doctorates in the art of seduction.
I hadn’t even reached the kindergarten level in that particular department.
“Thank you.”
“You were going to vet school at Dallas U, right?” Foster had tucked his hands in the pockets of his slacks, and though the question was casual, I had the distinct impression he was tense beneath that suit jacket.
Pike handed me a napkin for my hands and stood to toss the food into a nearby trash can.
I wiped off my hands and pushed myself to my feet, trying to do it as gracefully as possible in my restrictive skirt. “Yes, how’d you know that?”
“The scrubs you wear have the school insignia on them,” Foster said, as if it was totally normal that he’d looked at me that closely.
“Observant.” Especially considering I usually only managed a head-down, mumbled hey-how-are-ya exchange when we passed each other in the hallway. Secretly listening to one of your hot neighbors having sex had a way of making eye contact a bit uncomfortable the next day—particularly if said eavesdropper had used the soundtrack to fuel her own interlude with her battery-operated boyfriend.
Not that I had. Several times. Whatever.
Pike sidled up next to Foster—a motley pair if there ever was one. “So, doc, now that you’ve got no dinner and clearly too much liquor on your hands, why don’t you join us? We already have pizza on the way, and we can play a drinking game with the tequila. Do college kids still play Never Have I Ever? I was always good at that one.”
Kid? Is that what they saw me as? Neither of them could be that much older than I was. Though in terms of life experience, I had no doubt they trumped me a few times over.
“Oh, no, that’s okay.” The refusal was automatic, long practiced. How many times had I turned down such offers—from guys, from friends? My parents had been so strict when I was younger that I almost didn’t know how to say yes even after living on my own the last few years. Studies first. Fun later. Yet, there never seemed to be any time for fun after the first one was finished.
“You sure? I don’t want you going to bed with no dinner because of us,” Foster said, frown lines marring that perfect mouth of his.
Going to bed and us was about all I heard. My father’s stern voice whispered in my ear. You don’t know these men. You’ll be all alone in their apartment. Medina women have more respect for themselves than that.
“Really, I’m fine. I had a big lunch,” I said, my smile brief, plastic. “But thanks.”
“Oh, come on,” Pike said, his tone cajoling. “We’ve been neighbors for what, two years? We should at least get to know a little about each other.”
Get to know each other? I knew that Foster was loud when he came—even if he was alone. Knew that Pike liked to laugh during sex. Knew the two men shared women. And the other sounds I’d heard over the last two years…the smacks, the commands, the erotic screams. My face went as hot as if I’d stuck my head in an oven.
“Y’all just want me for my tequila,” I said, attempting to deflect my derailing thoughts.
The corner of Pike’s mouth lifted. “Of course that’s not all we want you for.”
“Uh…” Oh, hell. Pictures flashed across my brain. Dirty, delicious pictures. I almost dropped my phone again. I had no idea what to do with my hands, my expression.
Foster put a hand on Pike’s shoulder. “The lady said no. I think we should let her go celebrate her graduation however she wants.”
“All right.” Pike’s face turned hang dog, but he handed me the tequila bottle. “If you change your mind, we’ve got big plans. Supreme pizza and a Star-Wars-themed porn marathon. The Empire Sucks C—”
Foster smacked the back of Pike’s head, and Pike ducked and laughed.
“Kidding. I mean, a Jane Austen marathon,” Pike corrected, his green-gold eyes solemn. “Pride and Pu—”
Foster was behind Pike, his hand clamping over his friend’s mouth in a flash. “I seriously can’t take him out. He’s like an untrained puppy. Maybe you can lend me a shock collar or something.”
Pike waggled his eyebrows, all playful wickedness.
I laughed, putting my hand to my too hot forehead, and turning toward the stairs. “Yeah, so, I’m going to go now.”
“Cela,” Foster said as I put my foot onto the first step.
I glanced back. “Yeah?”
His ice melt eyes flicked downward, his gaze alighting along the length of me before tracing their way upward again in a slow, unashamed perusal. “Promise you won’t go to bed hungry.”
I wet my lips, my skin suddenly feeling too tight to accommodate the blood pumping beneath it, and nodded.
But it was a lie.
I always went to bed hungry.
And it had nothing to do with a spilled dinner.

Developing a Character From the Inside Out
By Roni Loren

People often ask me where I get my characters from—well, I think mostly they want to know if the guys from The Ranch are really wandering around Texas in real life, lol. (Sadly, they aren’t.) But it’s not an easy question to answer because it’s not one particular way I come upon a character. I don’t base characters on people I know or who I’ve met necessarily. But I do take characteristics of real life people and mash them up to find something new.

Like my husband always jokingly tells people that all of my heroes are based on him, lol. And in a way, there’s some truth to that because each of my heroes probably has some little thing that I picked up from my husband. Like Pike in NOT UNTIL YOU has a scene where he goes to a dog shelter. His reaction to a certain dog is so how my husband would react (he’s the guy who stops and saves animals on the side of the road.)

But in general, when I start a book, I spend the most time figuring out what makes my characters tick. I’m not a plotter, so I don’t plan out what’s going to happen in the book before writing it. Like for NOT UNTIL YOU, it started with the question—What if a woman had thin walls in her apartment and she’s been listening to her dominant neighbor and all the antics in his bedroom and has a huge crush on him? That’s all I may start with plot wise for a book—the setup.

But with characters, I need to know them pretty well before I can begin. I was a social worker before I was a writer, so I have this need to get my characters on the therapy couch first. I need to know: What happened to them in their life that makes them the way they are today? What are their wounds? What motivates them? What are they most scared of? What do they think they want? What do they really want/need even if they don’t realize it? What hang-ups skew their view of the world?

In NOT UNTIL YOU, I figured out the Cela had been very sheltered in her childhood and has an overbearing family that she’s spent her life trying to please. So that’s why someone as innocent as she is would dare to consider a wild offer from her hot neighbors. As for Foster, I won’t give his background away, but let’s just say that he had a tragedy in the past that has guided how he’s lived much of his life.

So once I knew that about those two, I was off to the races and writing. The plot stuff will show up along the way for me as long as I know the heart of the characters I’m working with.

Of course, that’s not to say that this way is every writer’s process. Our brains all work differently. But if you’re trying to write your story and keep getting feedback that people aren’t connecting with your characters, try putting them on the therapy couch and force them to talk about their childhoods and secrets. They work for you. Don’t let them get away with keeping their secrets from you. ☺

REVIEW: A TASTE OF PASSION is the first instalment in Ashley Lister’s new, contemporary, adult Sweet Temptation erotic romance series focusing on celebrity chef William (Bill) Hart and culinary school graduate Trudy Cole. The storyline follows many of the more popular older, wealthy man/younger, naïve woman formulas. The D/s relationship begins when Trudy demands an audience with Chef Hart not realizing that Hart has been asked to invest in Trudy and her friend’s pastry shop-Sweet Temptations.

The focus of the storyline follows Trudy as she is pulled into the world of Bill Hart. Several years Trudy’s senior, Bill is a celebrity chef with a book and a television show in the works but a man who hides many secrets and many affairs. As their relationship builds Trudy quickly finds herself the new sous chef at Bill’s restaurant but jealousy and revenge will pit the staff and Bill against one another as Trudy and Bill become the pawns in a game of vengeance and reprisal. Harsh words and even harsher punishment will be meted out and Trudy must make a decision whether to remain under Bill’s dominance both in and out of the bedroom.

The relationship between Trudy and Bill is one of Dominance and submission. There is no denying that Trudy has entered into the relationship wholly aware of her role and what it is she wants. But saying that, I did not feel the connection between our leading couple other than the D/s relationship. Their’s is a case of insta-lust and wanting something they shouldn’t have.  Trudy’s need to escape from her crazy friends pushes her into a situation that is volatile and compromising.

The secondary characters are colorful, angry, aggressive and drive a good portion of the storyline. Trudy’s former best friends border the line between sane and psychotic, and the staff at the restaurant make sure that Trudy knows exactly where it is she stands.

The world building pulls the reader behind the scenes of high end dining, exclusivity and the celebrity of a world famous chef, and the notoriety and fall out of an affair that is about to crash and burn.

If you are a fan of the light BDSM storylines and like the world of the rich and famous, then A TASTE OF PASSION is for you. The story ends rather abruptly on a bit of a cliffhanger where the reader is left wondering what happened and where it will go. Because this is the first in the series, there are several issues unanswered and not addressed.

REVIEW: SURRENDER TO TEMPTATION is an adult, contemporary, erotic romance story (originally released in a six part serial format) from the pen of author Lauren Jameson that focuses on billionaire/Dom Zach St. Brenton and former paralegal Devon Reid. When Devon finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman, she packs up and moves across country only to find herself face to face with the man who would one day be her future and her heartbreak. The storyline is written from Devon’s first person POV

The storyline focuses on Devon as she moves forward with her life. Meeting Zach at a local restaurant, he will begin to pull Devon into a world she never knew-but a world of which will dominate her daily life. Zach is a Dom-a man who doesn’t do relationships because of his past-but a man who needs and wants control and, Devon is ripe for the picking. As the storyline builds, so too, does their relationship but Zach is a man who refuses to let his feelings take control. Most of the storyline focuses on the building relationship; Zach’s need for control; and Devon’s desire to be loved. Zach is a man whose emotions are buried deep and in this his character comes across cold and uncaring.

The relationship between Zach and Devon is complicated at best. He is her boss; the man to whom she must submit both in and outside of the bedroom. But their relationship is definitely not equal as Zach demands obedience and submission from Devon in everything. From work, to home, to the bedroom, Zach is a man in charge-until he loses his heart to a woman who only wants to be loved.

Devon is a heroine who is pulled into a lifestyle-not of her choosing-but a lifestyle Zach believes is for her. Although the Dom/sub relationships are usually equal in their pleasure/pain -give and take- I did not feel the connection between our leading couple. Devon is a reluctant submissive and Zach pushes Devon at every opportunity. In this, Zach is a man who needs to control and Devon is the woman he chooses to control. In my opinion, Devon had a need to feel wanted and Zach’s need to control gave Devon the illusion that Zach and the lifestyle-are for her. There were a few spots where the storyline becomes convoluted-the entire ‘surfing scenario’ felt disjointed from the story and was another demonstration about who is the dominant  in the relationship.

Lauren Jameson has written an interesting storyline that follows a similar outline to many of the best selling erotic/BDSM/Dom/sub series. Our hero believes his need for control is because of his past and our heroine is a naïve, young woman looking for love-in all the wrong men.

About the book: Release Date March 4, 2014

REVIEW: SEDUCED BY FIRE is the first instalment in Tara Sue Me’s new, contemporary, erotic, BDSM series-Partners in Play. If you have read Tara’s The Submissive Trilogy much of the premise and plot is very similar although each instalment in the Partners in Play series may feature a different leading couple. This is Julie Masterson and Daniel Covington’s story-young independent woman meets gorgeous, rich man and the sparks fly.

The storyline follows Julie as she embarks on a relationship with the sexy and well to do Daniel Covington. Little does Julie know but Daniel is a senior Dom-a well positioned member in the local Dom/sub lifestyle and Daniel wants more from Julie than she may be willing to give. When Julie discovers the truth about Daniel, she realizes that perhaps she has been a submissive in the bedroom all of her life. With her best friend Sasha ( also a sub), Julie will begin to explore a different side of the bedroom and one that will break her heart when a darker side of the lifestyle emerges.

The relationship between Daniel and Julie is quick to build. From friends to lovers to something much more, Julie will soon lose her heart to a man who may not be able to give her everything she wants. The love making is sensual; the sex is hot and hard; and the relationship will come to a screeching halt when someone close gets in too deep. My only complaint-I didn’t feel the love between our leading characters. The relationship felt two sided in that Daniel wanted to dominate and Julie wanted to love.

Tara Sue Me has written a storyline that will pull you into the back rooms, play rooms and dungeons of the Dom/sub relationships. There are some graphic BDSM descriptive encounters, some detailed explanations as to the expectations and requirements in the Dom/sub exchange and a cast of secondary characters that will break your heart when the lifestyle overwhelms and sucks them under.

SEDUCED BY FIRE is another erotic and edgy storyline-a little darker than Tara Sue Me’s previous series-but one that will end with a HEA (for now).
