REVIEW: BEFORE US by Jewel E Ann is a stand alone, contemporary, adult romance story line focusing on airline pilot Zachary Hays, and housekeeper/photographer Emersyn Clarke.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Zachary and Emersyn) BEFORE US focuses on life, death, grief and acceptance. Zachary Hays’ wife Suzanne is dying. He needs a housekeeper and companion for Suzanne, and hires Emersyn Clarke, a young twenty-three year old woman whom he will quickly discover is both homeless and has medical issues of her own. Upon Suzanne’s death, Emersyn remains friends with our story line hero, friends who will enter into a marriage of convenience, a marriage in which the overwhelming guilt and grief are too much for Zachary Hays. When the opportunity arises, Emersyn accepts a position as a photographer for a travel blogger, a position that will take Emersyn around the world, away from the man with whom she has fallen in love but for Emersyn love is only a one way street, and Zachary is unable to let go of the past. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Zachary and Emersyn, and the fall-out as Zachary continues to struggle with the grief of losing his wife, pushing away the woman who is willing to love him in the here and now.
