REVIEW: AWAKENED BY HER BEAR is the fifth novella length instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult BLACK RIDGE BEARS erotic, romance series- a spin off from the author’s COUGAR CREEK MATES series. This is bear shifters Maverick and Bronwyn ‘Winnie’ story line. AWAKENED BY HER BEAR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but there is an ongoing premise throughout with the inclusion of the group known as Archangel.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Maverick and Winnie) AWAKENED BY HER BEAR follows the second chance romance and relationship between bear shifters Maverick and Winnie. Years earlier, Winnie and Maverick were captured by the group known as Archangel, a organization run by humans in an effort to rid the world of the supernatural shifters. Upon their escape, Winnie and Maverick went in different directions. Fast forward to present day wherein Winnie’s brother Andrew has been captured by Archangel, Winnie must follow their commands but in doing so places the bear that she loves in the direct line of fire. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Winnie and Maverick, and the potential fall-out as betrayal, jealousy and heart break find our couple facing an adversary, well known to both.

The relationship between Winnie and Maverick is one of second chances. Maverick protected our heroine while in the custody of Archangel but Maverick was forced to fight in the rings, kill or be killed, and in this, our hero struggles with what was and what may be. Winnie has known for several years that Maverick is her mate but convincing Maverick takes more than she ever though possible considering Maverick believes he is unworthy of love. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and edgy, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Maverick’s ‘brother’ and fellow pack mates: Rune, Knox, Saint, and Lowe, as well as Winnie’s brother Andrew. The requisite evil has many faces.

AWAKENED BY HER BEAR is a story of betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and love, family and friendships. The premise is edgy and captivating; the romance is provocative and fated; the characters are broken but healing.

UNLEASHED BY HER BEAR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Rune and Callie) UNLEASHED BY HER BEAR follows our heroine Callie, on the run. Trapped and injured Callie will be rescued by a beast of a man whose hatred for wolf shifters runs dark and deep. Trying to escape from a life of abuse, Callie believes she may have run from the frying pan into the fire but desperate times force Callie under the protection of our story line hero. Needing to get to the White Wolf Pack, lone wolf Callie, finds herself surrounded by bears, bears who are reluctant to leave Rune with the injured wolf. Once again, on the move, Rune and Callie must fight off a marauding pack of wolves, wolves determined to take back our story line heroine. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Rune and Callie, and the potential fall-out as Callie’s time with Rune comes to a close.

Callie is a woman on the run, who struggles to trust her would be rescuer then again, Rune hasn’t come across as friendly from the outset. Rune’s past has forced him to hate the wolf shifters, and with it any wolf shifter that crosses his path. Callie suspects that Rune is her fated mate but knows her only chance at survival is to seek refuge and shelter with the White Wolf Pack. As our couple head towards the end of their journey emotions and fate push the shifters together. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Rune’s ‘brothers’ Knox, Saint, Maverick and Lowe, as well as the White Wolf Alpha Rourke, and wolf shifter Carrigan. There is limited interaction between our leads and the supporting characters as most of the story line focuses on getting our heroine to safety.

UNLEASHED BY HER BEAR is another quick read; a story of power and abuse, family and relationships, vengeance and fate. The fast paced premise is edgy and tragic; the romance is intimate; the characters are angry, desperate, and tormented.

It is not necessary to have read the previous series but there is an on-going premise throughout with the inclusion of the group known as Archangel. This is bear shifter Lowe, and park ranger Cameo’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives, covering approximately twenty four hours, RESCUED BY HER BEAR, follows the quick building romance and relationship between bear shifter Lowe, and park ranger Cameo. Cameo is on the run in the wake of the murder of her brother, and threats against her life but wherever she goes, the drug cartel with whom her brother was working, wanted their money, believing our heroine was good for the coin. Hoping to lose the men in the Black Ridge mountains, Cameo finds herself injured, in both body and soul. Enter bear shifter Lowe, and the man with whom Cameo will fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Cameo and Lowe, and the potential fall-out as Lowe’s secrets are about to be revealed, and the men hunting for Cameo take aim at Lowe.

The relationship between Lowe and Cameo is quick to develop. Lowe suspects Cameo is his fated mate, and struggles with the possibility that our heroine may leave when she discovers the truth. Desperate to protect the woman that calls to his heart, Lowe is willing to risk the wrath of his Alpha, looking forward to his own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Alpha Saint and his mate (cougar shifter) Holly; Lowe’s twin brother Knox; bear shifter Rune and Maverick, and cougar shifter doctor Yasmin. The requisite evil has many faces.

RESCUED BY HER BEAR is a quick read; a fast paced story of insta-love between a shifter bear and a human female, a human who is willing to kill to protect her mate. The premise is dramatic; the characters are edgy; the romance is intimate. RESCUED BY HER BEAR ends on a happily ever after-for now, as the trouble following Cameo has yet to be rectified.
