The premise focuses on Ellie’s need to gain more experience in the bedroom. Ellie has her sights set on Bluelick’s newest bachelor Roger Reynolds, but Roger has his sights set on someone else.

Like any small towns, there is the local bar where friends gather to discuss life and love, and it is at Rawley’s Pub where some of the most interesting stories are told.

PRIVATE PRACTICE is an entertaining and hopeful introductory storyline of romance and love. Samanthe Beck’s characters are realistic, imaginative and fun. The sex scenes are passionate and intimate without the graphic language of many erotic storylines.

REVIEW: FULL BLAZE is the third installment in M.L.Buchman’s adult, contemporary, romantic action suspense Firehawks series focusing on an elite group of fire fighting experts-helicopter pilots, fighters, jumpers and more. Firehawks series is a spin-off from M.L. Buchman’s Night Stalker military/romance/suspense series. Several characters cross over throughout the series but each book can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Any important information from previous storylines is imparted where necessary. This is Australian helicopter pilot Jeannie Clark and award winning wildfire photographer Cal Jackson’s story.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline follows the men and women fighting the Grandstone Canyon Fire above Santa Barbara, California. The hotshot crew of fire fighters have been in the middle of the action for close to a week when Cal Jackson found himself in need of rescue-separated from the fire fighters-who were doing their job. Enter helicopter pilot Jeannie Clark – personally put out when she is ordered to rescue what she believes is an interloper in the world of fire rescue. As the fires above Santa Barbara continue to burn, the fire between Jeannie and Cal will smolder with attraction and lust.

Like the previous storyline, there is more to the story than fighting fires. Our intrepid crew will be flown to a secret location where the US Navy is keeping tabs on a terrorist organization in East Timor. As the guerillas set fire to villages and towns, the Firehawks will be called in to determine who and what is at the heart of the destruction. Cal will become an integral part of the Firehawk team when he is able to visualize and see more than the naked eye.

The relationship between Cal and Jeannie is quick to develop as there is an immediate attraction to one another. Cal is more than just a wildfire photographer- he has experience fighting fires and will become a valuable asset to the team. His hides the emotional and physical scars from his past and in this the team commander will begin a thorough background check before Cal becomes a permanent member of the Team. The sex scenes are mostly implied with seductive and passionate imagery.

There is some unnecessary repetition as it concerns Jeannie’s background and family history. The family lost everything in a devastating fire and the author relays this information on numerous occasions but does not take it to the next level. The loss does not seem to affect Jeannie’s ability to focus and therefore I am curious as to the constant barrage of repetitive information. I would have liked more information about Cal’s past as his history is mired in abuse and neglect.

The secondary characters include some of the previous storyline couples including the Majors Mark and Emily Henderson from the original Night Stalker series, as well as former fire jumper Steve Mercer and Carly from book one in the Firehawks series- Pure Heat. Steve’s drones keep the Firehawks one step ahead of the fire.

M.L.Buchman’s storylines are infinitely detailed in technical terminology from military flight to fire fighting lingo. There is an enormous amount of professional, mechanical and technical information communicated to the reader as the storyline builds towards its’ fiery conclusion.

FULL BLAZE is another suspense filled and action packed story of the unsung heroes who fight the forest fires and risk their lives. M.L. Buchman’s fantastic imagery and exquisite detail brings the story to life-you can almost feel the burn as the flames wash over our storyline heroes. There are moments of intense fear, drama and thrills when the helicopters circle over and above the deadly flames hoping to strike a direct hit in their attempts to quell the fire. The Firehawks and Night Stalker series will captivate your imagination with their spirited and intelligent look at the men and women who risk their lives everyday.

Cal enjoyed the ride as they flew high over Santa Barbara, the Pacific Ocean stretching out to fill the horizon as they approached it. Jeannie had left him feeling immensely mellow. He’d never been with anyone who responded to him with such heat, nor offered it right back. And usually heat left him simply greedy for more. Jeannie doused the fires in him just as effectively as she did with her chopper, as if she’d somehow washed his insides clean as well.

Tell her, you idiot.

“You’re an incredible woman, Jeannie Clark of the dark-red hair.” He watched her as she checked something on her instrument panel, then adjusted their heading, ushc a tiny shift that he knew it was a delaying tactic. It was okay, he could wait. There were only the two of them and a breathtaking morning light aboard Jeannie’s Firehawk.

“Why?”

“Let’s see. Chronological or order of importance?”

“Give me a break, Hotshot.”

“Not a chance, Helitack. I could start by enumerating your womanly curves and just how much I enjoyed them last night.”

“And this morning.”

“Reverse chronological, then since we’re covering last night.”

She puttered and turned to glare at him.

“Watch your heading, Helitack,” he ordered her, though she hadn’t wiggled off her flight path in the slightest.

She continued to glare for a long moment before abruptly laughing and turning back forward.

Damn! Why were both of his cameras in the bag? That laugh had lit her up brighter than the morning sun. It was the first time he’d heard it up close rather than across half a camp, and it transformed her from merely incredible to downright magnificent. What in the hell was he doing presuming to even be aboard this woman’s chopper? He had no more qualifications to be here than… Cut it out, Cal. She invited you. That’s enough. Enough for now, anyway.

The Helitanker Girls of MHA

He’d fallen in with the helitanker girls of Mount Hood Aviation. Cal had heard about them and dismissed the stories as exaggerated because they were told by men about firefighting women. Women were a rare breed in wildfire, so the grunts either gunned for them, placed them on impossible pedestals, or, more typically, did both.

This particular female pilot had done a damn neat bit of flying to save his behind. And she said that her teammate was unbelievably better. So maybe the pedestal was deserved in this case.

HELITANKERS
First off, a helitanker is any helicopter used as a tanker for fighting wildfires. A Firehawk is a Sikorsky Black Hawk able to lift ten tons. It can siphon a thousand gallons of water out of any body of water: lake, swimming pool, or ocean in under forty-five seconds and then deliver it with pinpoint accuracy.

And one of the great joys of the series has been discovering the women who fly these helicopters.

ORIGIN IN ANOTHER STORY
It all began back with then Captain Emily Beale in The Night is Mine (Night Stalkers #1). She was the first woman of The Night Stalkers and formed up an elite team of women. And fell in love with the best man who ever flew, Major Mark Henderson.

After leading the Night Stalkers women through:
• Kee Smith –I Own the Dawn
• Connie Davis –Wait Until Dark
• Lola LaRue –Take Over at Midnight

Emily and Mark retired from the Army to raise their daughter. (much to this writer’s shock! I thought Emily had many more Night Stalkers books to go, but she insisted otherwise.) Now she still flies, leading Mount Hood Aviation’s helicopter fleet against forest fires.

The real-life Night Stalkers of the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment are the best helicopter pilots on the planet. It was a joy to make Emily one of their best. To say that she sets a high standard would be an understatement.

Emily’s passion for her crew and protecting “her women” defines who she is.

THE MHA TEAM

In Pure Heat Emily must confront a third-generation firefighter.

Carly Thomas has trained herself to be one of the finest Fire Behavior Analysts in the business. After initial resistance, she is won over by Emily’s incredible skill and deeply ingrained calm. Carly herself shares many of those traits. She is steady, difficult to fluster.

and is driven to fight fire from a deep rooted need that goes back to the loss of her father.

In Full Blaze Jeannie Clark expands the team. Yes, fire is the enemy—such a deep-seated enemy that it drives her as hard as it does Carly.

But Jeannie is a very different woman from the two blonds of MHA. She is brunette and Australian. But where Emily and Carly function from a place of studied perfection, Jeannie is a “natural.” It gives her a…looser style.

She tried to mirror Emily’s every move. Jeannie could feel herself smooth out when Emily did, but she couldn’t do that rigid control for long. The woman was textbook and Jeannie was more seat of the pants. When Jeannie flew that rock steady, she actually lost the feel of the chopper. If she rode the air currents just a little, slalomed back and forth even the tiniest fraction, she became far more aware of what the Firehawk and the air around her were doing.

And not just in the way she flies.

“So, what’s right up there with saving your life? Don’t think I did anything else particularly noteworthy.”

Cal couldn’t help grinning. “I didn’t say it was important, just said I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”

“Okay, Hotshot, I give up.”

“The way you walk, Magic Lady. Damn, but you have a walk of such power and beauty that you stun me past any ability to even photograph it.”

There are moments where tears will flow for a man who has lost so much but the tears will be tempered when the same man is unable to come to terms with the loss. Oliver needs closure and in taking the step forward he may lose the woman who is beginning to repair his heart. Our couple will be separated for months and in this I struggled to accept the ‘what fors and whys’. There are moments when you have to walk away knowing that you are not responsible for the happiness of others; guilt is a strong emotion and an ugly motivator when used in the wrong hands.

Jewel E Ann takes the reader through a roller coaster of emotions; the highs and lows of a relationship between two people meant for one another but one that is in a continuing battle with the ghosts of the past. Our couple must overcome obstacles, betrayal, buried memories and emotional ties to the past. Friendships will be destroyed when words are said in anger but sometimes these friendships are never meant to be.

IDLE BLOOM is an intimate look at two people and the drama that is their lives. Jewel E Ann’s astonishing ability to draw forth the reader’s emotions is a testament to her amazing skill as a writer. REVIEW: WORK OF ART-The Inspiration is the first installment in Ruth Clampett’s remarkable Work of Art contemporary, adult, romance series focusing on tormented and troubled artist Maxfield Caswell and art graduate/writer Ava Jacobs. Told from Ava’s point of view, the reader is pulled into the haunting reality of one woman’s need to protect and defend a man who is quickly spiraling out of control.

The premise follows Ava and Max’s building relationship-a friends only relationship –that becomes complicated rather quickly when Ava becomes the muse to Max’s art. When Ava is hired to write the text for Max’s coffee table art book, Max’s obsession with Ava heightens their sexual attraction to one another, of which Ava refuses to admit. It will be Ava’s defiance in the face of the obvious that will send a despondent Max over the edge when she refuses to acknowledge that there is something more between them.

Max is a man possessed; an enigma; a tortured soul with a fragile ego and an even more fragile mind. Max’s lighter moments are juxtaposed with his darker personality such that his own life is a canvas of black on white where the dark begins to bleed outside of the lines. His art is his passion but his life is an endless parade of alcohol and sex. With his reputation in ruins, Ava will become both Max’s savior and his destruction when she is unable to keep his demons away.

There is a tentative love triangle woven throughout the story. Ava plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse where the heart will be the biggest loser of all. These moments of aggravation did little to help Ava’s cause. As Max tries to keep his distance, Ava will try to focus on who and what it is she truly wants. In the end, Ava will push Max too far and it will be her heart that will be the first to fall.

The secondary characters are colorful, fascinating and startlingly real. From co-workers and fellow artists to the industry players, we get a glimpse at the behind the scenes struggles of an artist whose emotional stability is deteriorating one brush stroke at a time.

The romance is limited as Ava and Max dance around one another most of the book. There are no sex scenes or graphic sexual imagery but the are moments of sensuality and passion.

WORK OF ART –The Inspiration is a passionate and intense story that will seduce your mind. The artistic imagery and references bring a reality to the text as the reader is guided through a gallery of who’s who in the world of art. Ruth Clampett paints a story with her imagination just as an artist paints a picture with color and inspiration.

REVIEW: Some background-The Indebted Series by Pepper Winters focuses on a six hundred year old debt-one the Hawk family believes comes due with the birth of each first born Weaver daughter-and Nila Weaver is its’ next payment. Nila will become a pawn; a slave to the Hawk family. With her life and her freedom, she will repay the centuries old debt- a debt her family knew only too well.

DEBT INHERITANCE is not for everybody. If you take issue with dark, tormented and controversial storylines where morality and legality tread a fine line with non-consensual sex, torture and assault, then this book and series are not for you.

FIRST DEBT begins where book one Debt Inheritance left off. Jethro Hawk is a man whose birthright has placed him on the path towards brutality and sin. It is his duty to the family that pits Jethro against the woman with whom he is falling in love-a woman whose life has an expiry date-and a life that will end at Jethro’s hands.

As the storyline progresses we are witness to a game-a very deadly and dangerous game-where Nila Weaver will purposely place herself in a position where she hopes to gain the ultimate control. Jethro Hawk is consumed with his need to both protect and destroy Nila Weaver but his ‘duty to family’ will override all sense of right and wrong. Following the payment of the ‘first debt’, Nila begins to formulate a plan to bring Jethro on her side.

I am not sure if the psychological term Stockholm Syndrome or ‘capture-bonding’ is appropriate in this situation but there are definite points to ponder. Traumatic Bonding is another form of Stockholm Syndrome where strong emotional ties develop between two people when one person continuously threatens, abuses, beats and intimidates the other. Freudian Theory suggests this type of bonding allows the victim’s ego to defend itself believing they have the same values as the aggressor thus ceasing to believe there is any personal threat. Whether this ‘bonding’ theory can be applied to Nila Weaver is anyone’s guess. She is a strong willed, determined heroine who refuses to give in or give up; she will change the game, the rules and the players-if only she can figure out who the real players are!

FIRST DEBT (and the Indebted series) is a dark, contentious and distressing storyline. There are moments of dubious consent, torture and abuse by a man whose own life path has been planned from birth and in this, his ‘duty’, has been predetermined by DNA. The writing is brilliant; the topic is controversial; the participants are dangerous and tragic.

REVIEW: SURRENDER is the second installment in KM Scott’s adult, contemporary Club X erotic romance series (a spin off from her Heart of Stone trilogy) focusing on three brothers: Cassian and Stefan March, and their half brother Kane Jackson-co owners of Club X-a secreted club where all of your erotic fantasies come true. Each story is a stand alone and ends with a happily ever after but for cohesion, history and backstory I recommend reading in order because each storyline is interconnected. This is Stefan March and microbiologist Shaylene (Shay) Callahan’s story.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Shay and Stefan) SURRENDER follows Shay and Stefan’s building relationship. Shay needs money as she is about to embark on a year long research project in Copenhagen and Club X will offer up the ideal position to attain her financial goals. But Shay has been forewarned about the youngest March brother Stefan, a man-whore whose bad boy reputation proceeds his introduction. Shay is already predisposed to Stefan’s distinctive history and within minutes of introduction Shay has tried and convicted Stefan as the womanizer he is purported to be. From the steady stream of women exiting his office, Shay knows that she must keep her distance or find herself caught up in the downward spiral of Stefan March. But what Shay doesn’t know is that Stefan has plans of his own.

As the storyline progresses, so too does the relationship between Shay and Stefan. The sex scenes are passionate, intimate and intense but there are moments where I had to question both Stefan and Shay’s direction and intent.

The world building continues with Club X as the background to the brothers’ stories. The dark secrets hidden behind the walls of Club X add an air of mystery and fantasy to a series that focuses on three brothers whose lives could not have been any different. The colorful secondary characters include Shay’s friend Cassie, Stefan’s brothers, as well as Cassian’s fiancée Olivia, and the employees who work for Club X. The brothers each control a different aspect of the Club and in this we learn a little bit about the happenings of what goes on behind the scenes. The ongoing need for protection will find the Club and our brothers at odds with what needs to be done and Stefan will risk everything, including Shay, for the forgiveness he believes he does not deserve.

KM Scott’s CLUB X series is a compelling and captivating look at three brothers and the women they love. The condemnation and self debasing nature for Stefan is equal to the pain he has caused his family, and in this, we are pulled into the emotional and destructive nature of sibling rivalry and brotherly love. SURRENDER Club X 2 is an incredible storyline of heartbreak and betrayal; family and love.

This is struggling rugby player Matt Ogden and airline pilot Libby Hart’s storyline-a friends to lovers trope with some heartbreaking moments and eye opening revelations. The author’s notes explain many of the British/European definitions, slang and euphemisms that many North American readers may not understand-bonus for us !!

The premise follows Matt’s struggle to make first string full-back with the London Legends professional rugby team but something or someone is holding him back. When a tragedy befalls one of the team member’s Matt must pick up and take control for the first time in his life. But memories of past failures and a deep fear of flying dog Matt at every turn. Enter Matt’s best friend, neighbor, co-owner of Princess the Chihuahua and airline pilot-Libby Hart- the woman who will make Matt face his worst fears and open his heart to a possible future.

The relationship between Libby and Matt is a friends to lovers storyline. Five years earlier, Libby introduced herself to her new neighbor, Matt Ogden and she fell in love at first sight. Fast forward to present day and Matt feels something for Libby but their future desires and needs follow opposite paths. Matt is a man determined to succeed on the playing field and Libby is an independent pilot who one day wants to make Captain. The world building continues as we follow the London Legends on the playing field and in their homes, as well as get a detailed look at operating a flying machine at 2,000 feet. The language and background information about piloting an airplane, and the little nuances about the game of rugby are an added bonus. The secondary players include the previous storyline couples, many of the London Legends players and Libby’s co-workers and family. There is a heartbreaking and painful loss for one of the players, one that cannot be fixed with a bandage or a slap on the back, and in this, Matt’s future with the team will begin to unfold. The storyline and epilogue fast forwards the series by eighteen months as we learn a little more about our couple and what the future has in store.

Kat Latham writes a provocative and captivating storyline. TEMPTING THE PLAYER is a passionate look at professional sports, the emotional highs and lows, and the amazing thrill of succeeding at something you love. REVIEW: UNWRAPPING HER PERFECT MATCH is Kat Latham’s first holiday installment in her contemporary, adult London Legends romance series focusing on the members of the professional rugby players of the London Legends. This is six-nine rugby player John Sheldon and nurse Gwen Chambers’s storyline.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline focuses on the building relationship between John and Gwen, one that began at a charity auction where Gwen ‘bought’ John for 5,000 pounds. Gwen is Tess Chambers’s sister (Playing It Close book 2), a nurse and a woman whose history with personal betrayal will hit too close to home when John makes a side bet with his teammate Matt Ogden about who would raise the most money. When Gwen only catches a part of the exchange, she immediately becomes defensive and retreats back to the years that had all but destroyed her life. It will take a young ten year old girl, a holiday filled with wonder and imagination, and the love of a good man, to show Gwen that not every man is after the same thing.

WOW … Miss Vivian .. where did that come from and how am I suppose to write a review without giving away all the best parts? LOL

Well this is going to be a quick review. Out of respect to Vivian Winslow I am just going to comment on a few things.

Black Dahlia is the fifth book in Vivian Winslow’s Gilded Flower series. This has been a different series in the sense that come the fourth book it branches off with a different heroine but still has the other characters from the first three books. I would recommend you absolutely read the fourth book before this one, but if you are going to do that, then snag the first three too and get a back story.

This book was by far her best one of the series. Right from the beginning you are snagged with the “WOW Factor”. This novel had remnants of her first novel of this series where self discovery, healing and personal reflection really shine through. The sexy scenes certainly are sexy and the bitchy … bitchy! LOL This is another short read (less than 100 pages) and again for so little pages there is so much story. Still a little choppy and rushed, I have to say that though, it didn’t take away from this story all that much.

I’m so sorry … I have literally given you nothing about the storyline … it’s on purpose. 😉

1. If you were a dessert, what would you be?

Oooh. Definitely something salty and sweet. There’s a dessert at Big Gay Ice Cream down on the Lower East Side called the Salty Pimp. It’s a soft serve vanilla cone with drops of Dulce de Leche and covered in chocolate. I love anything you eat with your tongue.

2. What 3 things are essential in your bedroom for a sexy/romantic night in?

Music is a must. I change it up quite a bit depending on my mood. Also, the right man (I’m married so that’s a given : )). And, depending on our mood, a toy, prop or just us. Sorry, that’s 2-2 ½ things. Oh, I guess sleeping children. There’s nothing romantic going on when they’re awake.

3. What do you like about writing erotic romance?

I like that I can take my characters to the edge of and beyond their limits. I also get to define what those limits are. The beauty of digital publishing is that there are no set parameters for a particular genre. So it’s been a lot of fun incorporating various elements from other genres (women’s fiction, suspense, etc.) and creating really hot sex scenes to go with them. It’s pure freedom, which for a writer is extremely difficult to find and balance.

4. If you could sleep with any of your characters who would it be?

Ahem. No disrespect to the hot man in my life or to those I write about. I’ve had sex with them all (in my head, except for my husband), and the one I think I’d come back to time and again is Alejandro. He’s a true alpha. Not overly dominating in the way that readers have come to expect because of books like 50 Shades. Rather, he’s confident and secure in his masculinity and is completely self-possessed. To me, that’s what makes a true alpha male. They’re not necessarily assholes or dominants. I think those qualities can often confuse what makes a man a sexy alpha versus a crazy, stalker with low self-esteem masked as an alpha. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that when I picture him, I see William Levy. So hot.
And confession. Gustavo is a close second. Just once though. I’d have to get it out of my system. Lol.

5. Spanking, yes or no.

Abso-fuckin’lutely. Caveat. Can’t be overdone or done every time. Then it’s just abuse, which is so not hot.

6. Do you like to be tied up. If so, why and with what?

Same answer as above. I have an adventurous spirit, and I’m usually game for anything. Whatever is around can work, like a t-shirt. I’m usually a fly-by-the seat-of- her-pants kind of person so sometimes you have to just work with what you have.

7. What do you use for inspiration for your love scenes?

Personal experiences aside, I have quite an imagination. : ) I’ve been writing love scenes since I was a young girl. If I’m feeling a need for a kick-start, I’ll listen to sexy music, which varies depending on the scene, if it’s animalistic or sensual. I might also read a scene from a sexy book. It doesn’t hurt to look at some hot guys on the Internet. But that’s a last resort. It’s important to connect with the character and figure out what kind of lover he is, for example, rough, gentle, confident, or dominating, and then go from there. While the books are centered on the female characters, their sexual experiences are defined just as much by the men they are with as it is by them. It’s a mutual scene, so it does take two to make it work.

8. Which character has surprised you the most and why?

Gustavo, without a doubt. He’s played so many roles in my mind throughout The Gilded Flower series. I never conceived him to be a villain. Originally, I wanted him to be an open and intense lover for Lily, one who would challenge her and force her to grow and face her fears. As the series progressed, he kept appearing, and thus his role had to change. I secretly hoped he would be her HEA until mid-way through Calla Lily when I realized that wasn’t going to happen. So then he needed to assume a new role. As the series continues, his story deepens and becomes more nefarious. I love it, and I appreciate how his character is so malleable like that. Makes him even more appealing. Amoral characters don’t lose their sex appeal (most of the time).
A close second is Dahlia. I expected a lot out of her, but now that I’ve written the end of her Trilogy, I just want to hug her for how far her character has come.
