ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 23, 2021

She’s been proposed to five times.
Five.
She even said yes to one of them.
And then broke his heart when she called it off. Not to mention her mother’s heart. And her grandmother’s. And his mother’s. And…you get the picture.

Paige Asher has now officially sworn off all dating. Diamonds give her hives.

All she wants is to be a yoga-doing, cat-collecting, vegetarian in peace. Away from her marriage-crazy family and all their expectations.

So when her weekend fling turns into a real friend and offers her a place to escape, she finds herself on his doorstep in Louisiana. And right in the middle of not just one family wedding, but three. Of course.

Charming, sexy bayou boy Mitch Landry gets stuff done. Whatever anyone needs. From alligator-sitting to getting a buddy drunk to showing a woman a good time to fixing a swamp boat, he’s the man. No problem. No drama.

But he wants a hell of a lot more from Paige than a temporary friends-with-benefits arrangement. He wants to take care of her. And her five cats. He also really wants other men to stop asking her to marry them.

But if a roommate and a few orgasms are all she wants, that’s what he’ll deliver.

He can just be her friend and not commit the greatest sin of all…asking her for forever.

Probably.

REVIEW:FOUR WEDDINGS AND A SWAMP BOAT TOUR is the sixth instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU erotic, romance series. This is twenty two year old yoga instructor Paige Asher, and twenty-seven year old, handyman Mitch Landry’s story line. FOUR WEDDINGS AND A SWAMP BOAT TOUR can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading OH, FUDGE book five in the author’s HOT CAKES series where Paige and Mitch’s story begins.

Told from third person perspective FOUR WEDDINGS AND A SWAMP BOAT TOUR picks up six months after the events of OH, FUDGE, a story line where Louisianan Mitch Landry goes in search of Iowa born Paige Asher, his one night stand from months earlier but Paige has no desire for marriage, having been proposed to four times already, and in this Paige doesn’t do relationships or happily ever after. Sending Mitch home with his tail between his legs, Paige will receive, yet another, marriage proposal sending her back into the arms of our story line hero. Looking for a place to stay for the next few months, Paige moves in with Mitch in New Orleans, , the man with whom she will fall in love but Paige doesn’t expect to fall in love with the Louisiana born Landrys, a family she desperately hopes will love her in return. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Paige and Mitch, and the potential fall-out as Mitch desperately tries but fail to keep his distance from our story line heroine.

Paige Asher landed at Mitch Landry’s front door unannounced, and with no expectations of the future but Mitch’s family had other plans until our hero set them straight about scaring off the woman with whom he would fall in love. Working part-time with the Boys of the Bayou Swamp Tours, Paige would become fast friends with the Landry clan, unexpectantly volunteering to plan three of their upcoming weddings. Mitch Landry knows that to push Paige Asher could mean the end of their growing relationship but Mitch never expected his family to welcome Paige as one of their own, and in doing so, place our heroine in the direct line of fire for family get togethers, and upcoming events including wedding and babies.

The relationship between Mitch and Paige began as a one night stand that soon turned into something more when Mitch went in search of the woman who ghosted him the next morning. Never expecting to fall in love, Mitch sat back and watched the woman with whom he would fall in love, fall in love with his family first. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The camaraderie between characters is flirty, sassy and fun. Erin Nicholas pulls the reader into a story of family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is entertaining and enjoyable; the characters are energetic, lively and spirited; the romance is seductive and hot.

Goodnight, Paige,” he finally said.
“Goodnight, Mitch.”
They still just stood looking at each other.
“You need to go to your room,” he said, his voice a little tight.
“I will. You too.”
“Yeah, but—” He sighed. “You’re right by my door.”
She looked at the closed bedroom door again. And smiled. “I guess I am.”
She didn’t want to torture the guy. He was trying to be noble. Or something. But she wouldn’t deny that she liked that resisting her would be difficult.
“You need to move away from my bedroom door, Paige.” His voice was a little gruffer.
“You’re in my way of getting to my bedroom too,” she pointed out.
“But are you tempted to throw me over your shoulder and say to hell with all of your good intentions? Already? Within twenty minutes of deciding you even have good intentions?”
She laughed even as warmth filled her. Not just heat. Not lusty heat anyway. But a feel-good warmth that she didn’t quite understand. But she liked it. “Kind of.”
He swallowed hard. Then said, “Go to bed, Paige.”
She moved to the right, away from his door. As he came forward, she playfully pressed her back against the far wall.
He smiled, in spite of himself, and went to his bedroom door. He twisted the knob but paused and looked over at her.
She inched her way toward her bedroom, still against the wall. When she got to her door she reached for the knob and shot him a smile. “Goodnight, Mitch.”
“’Night.”
“And I’m just right here if you have any night time needs. Bad dreams.” She paused. “Good dreams.”
“Stop it.”
“Stop what? Just being a good friend.” She grinned.
“My dreams might include white dresses and tuxes,” he warned.
Again, no sense of oh shit. Instead she tipped her head. “You’re pretty good at bringing all of that up without asking the four-word question.”
He didn’t comment on that. “See you in the morning.”
“Okay.” She gave him another smile, then slipped into her room, feeling his eyes still on her until the door shut.
She slumped against it, pressing her hand to her stomach.
Dammit. She really liked him.
It was really too bad they weren’t going to kiss anymore.

He wears suits and ties. He’ll one day inherit a fortune. He has a law degree. He shines his shoes, for God’s sake. What is she doing attracted to a guy like him? But she is. She so is.

She drives air boats on the bayou, drinks and cusses, and gives city boys in suits a hard time just for fun. Why can’t he get her out of his mind? But he can’t. He definitely can’t.

A weekend trip to Savannah for a fancy-schmancy party with his highfalutin family is the surefire way to prove that they have nothing in common but intense chemistry. And to maybe scratch this I’ve-never-wanted-anyone-like-I-want-you itch once or twice. Or five times.

But it takes only about twenty-four hours for the bayou girl and the city boy to figure out that they don’t really know much at all–about each other, or about themselves. And figuring all of this out is going to be downright crazy.

A hot, small town, opposites attract rom com!

Kennedy Landry and Bennett Baxter’s story!

••••••••••

REVIEW:CRAZY RICH CAJUNS is the fourth instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU erotic, romance series focusing on the Landry family. This is cook and bartender Kennedy Landry, and attorney/co-owner of Boys of the Bayou Bennett Baxter’s story line. CRAZY RICH CAJUNS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Kennedy and Bennett) CRAZY RICH CAJUNS follows the building relationship and romance between cook and bartender Kennedy Landry, and attorney/co-owner of Boys of the Bayou Bennett Baxter. As part owner of the Boys of the Bayou Swamp tours, Bennett Baxter finds himself attracted to over the top Kennedy Landry, the company’s PA and go-to person. His father’s upcoming retirement from political life means Bennett has the opportunity to show-off the woman that calls to his heart, a woman that screams all kinds of wrong for the power elite. What ensues is Kennedy and Bennett’s building relationship, and the potential fall-out as Kennedy becomes a pawn between Bennett, and the political aspirations of a powerful family.

Bennett Baxter has no desire to enter into politics although he has been groomed from an early age. An environmentalist at heart, Bennett is driven to save the Louisiana coast line, and in doing so goes up against the people in power. Kennedy Landry has never wanted much beyond her family and friends but coming face to face with the whose who of government, our heroine discovers there is more to life than serving drinks and eating Creole.

The relationship between Kennedy and Bennett has been slowly burnings since Bennett’s investment in Boys of the Bayou. There is definite palpable sexual attraction, an attraction that pulls at our couple with every encounter. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Grandma Ellie and Grandpa Leo return as Kennedy’s mentors and family, as well as several of Kennedy’s brother-there is some fantastic fun and protectiveness between the Landry siblings. We are introduced to Bennett’s large extended family; his mother Maria and father Senator Preston Baxter, as well as Governor Charles, and uncle Teddy Benoit, and an assortment of cousins, nieces and nephews.

CRAZY RICH CAJUNS is a story of family, power and politics; a story of friendship, romance and love. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is sexy and spicy; the characters are energetic and animated. CRAZY RICH CAJUNS is captivating and terrific addition to the Boys of the Bayou.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 13, 2019

A sexy small town, beauty and the beast rom com!

Sawyer Landry knows he’s been beastly to be around for the past few months. But he can’t seem to remember how to be fun-loving and friendly. Until he sees Juliet Dawson on his boat dock… and realizes that hip waders are, apparently, one of his turn-ons. But despite the beauty in the boots, the last thing he needs right now is a city girl in his way for the next two weeks.

But he’s not really getting a vote. Juliet is determined that her little brother rebuild the dock he and his idiot friends smashed. She’s quirky, klutzy, independent… and possibly an even bigger pessimist than Sawyer is. He’s incredibly drawn to the cynical fish-out-of-water, who seems to be the one person who isn’t intimidated by his growling.

The big, gruff boat captain is the first person in a long time to want to watch out for her and Juliet finds that hotter than his grandma’s jambalaya. Well, that and his sexy scar, his emotional baggage, and the sense of humor and fun that is buried deep.

But Sawyer doesn’t need any more people to worry about long-term and the things that make him feel protective of Juliet aren’t going to go away. So, this two-week adventure can’t be anything more than a fling. With Juliet down on the bayou, there’s an even bigger threat than alligators and hurricanes. There’s the very good chance of someone ending up with a broken heart.

REVIEW: BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU is the third instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU erotic, romance series focusing on the Landry family. This is twenty-seven year old attorney Juliet Dawson, and tour boat operator Sawyer Landry’s story line. BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Juliet and Sawyer) BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU follows the building relationship between twenty-seven year old attorney Juliet Dawson, and tour boat operator Sawyer Landry. Days earlier Juliet’s younger brother stole a boat and all but destroyed the Landry boat docks. Hoping to make amends without having her brother sent to prison for theft and damage, Juliet sets out to make reparations on her own. Enter Sawyer Landry, the man with whom Juliet will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Juliet and Sawyer, and the potential fall-out as Juliet’s fears come to the surface threatening to drown her relationship with the man that she loves.

Juliet Dawson struggles with the repercussions of a childhood illness that continues to affect her daily life. Over protective to the point of obsession, Juliet comes prepared to repair the dock but leaves her heart open to falling in love. Sawyer Landry has been lost since the death of his business partner Tommy Alain, a partner he considered a brother and a friend. Hurting and scarred both inside and out Sawyer battles between head and heart with his attraction to our story line heroine.

The relationship between Sawyer and Juliet is one of immediate attraction but Sawyer was unprepared for the steam-roller that was Juliet Dawson. Desperate to teach her brother a lesson, and keep him out of jail, Juliet all but takes over the dock reparations on her own, and in the process, pulls our hero closer to her heart. The $ex scenes are limited but erotic and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to the large extended Landry family including Josh and Tori (My Best Friend’s Mardi Gras Wedding #1), Owen and Madison (Sweethome Louisiana #2) , sister Kennedy, grandma Ellie, Aunt Cora and billionaire investor and new business partner Bennett Baxter. Bennett and Kennedy’s story is next in Crazy Rich Cajuns.

The world building continues to focus on the Landry family dynamics; their tour boat operations, and life in the Louisiana Bayou. Grandma Ellie’s bar is the local hang out for family and friends, as well as the local gossip about falling in love and life in Autre, Louisiana.

BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU is a story of family, friendships, acceptance and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is steamy and hot; the characters are sexy, sassy, and a little bit broken-there is plenty of back and forth snark, double entendre and witty interplay between our leading couple, as well as between the Landry clan.

“I guess when we need relief from the heat, we go, you know, into the actual shade.” He looked amused. “Among other things.”
“Other things?”
It wasn’t so much that she needed to know other ways to keep cool. But she really liked the way he looked when he was mildly amused. It was a very good look on him.
“Lots of water and sweet tea,” he said.
She gave an involuntary shudder.
His amused smile grew. “No to sweet tea?”
“Not my favorite,” she admitted. “But don’t tell Ellie,” she added quickly.
He chuckled at that. “I would never.”
Yeah, the chuckling was nice, too. “I’ve got the water covered though,” she said.
“Good.”
“Anything else?”
“Well, when we get hot there area couple of other things we do,” he said.
Had he moved closer?
Juliet swallowed. “Like what?”
“We take clothes off,” he said.
Yeah, his voice was definitely deeper now.
“I gue—” She cleared her throat. “I guess that makes sense, but there are bugs and sunburn to consider.”
He gave her a nod. “Sunscreen and bug repellent are important. Cora makes bug repellent that’s amazing.”
Huh. Homemade bug repellent. She might have to give that a try. These people intrigued her, she had to admit. “What about the flying debris?”
Sawyer glanced at the boards behind her. “Yeah, well, I guess we do take some risks down here.”
Ah, ha. “I’d rather be a little hot than dealing with an infection from a piece of wood imbedding itself in my skin and muscle tissue.”
Sawyer paused, then shook his head, almost disbelievingly. “Okay, girl. Then that only leaves one other thing to do when you get too hot.”
“What’s that?”
“Swimming.”
For a moment, looking into Sawyer Landry’s eyes, for the first time since she’d been ten years old, Juliet wanted to take her clothes off and jump into a body of water.
That lasted about twelve seconds. But that was twelve seconds longer than she’d considered doing it to that point.
“I don’t have a swimming suit.”
“You don’t need one. The fewer clothes the cooler you get.”
“Skinny-dipping?” she asked.
“Skinny-dipping,” he confirmed.
“You actually skinny-dip?” she asked.
“Of course.”
Sawyer Landry naked.
She just took a few seconds to relish that thought…and the images that went with it. Skinny-dipping with Sawyer might be the one way she would ever even possibly consider any of that. “Do you have a private pool with lots of chlorine and a maximum depth of three feet?” she asked.
She wondered if being naked but with a life jacket on still counted as skinny-dipping.
“Don’t need a pool when I’ve got a whole bayou in my backyard.”
She shuddered. “There is no way I’m jumping in there. Clothes or not.”
“So, the naked part of skinny-dipping isn’t the problem?” Sawyer asked. “It’s the water?”
“It’s absolutely the water,” she said. It was actually all water, but water where she could see the bottom, touchthe bottom, and that was pumped through a filtration system was tolerable. Maybe. For a short period. With plenty of floatation devices within reach. “I mean, other than just the dirt, there are snakes and alligators and fish…and fish and alligator poopin there.” She frowned. “Do snakes poop? I mean, they probably do, right?”
Sawyer blinked at her. “I’ve never really thought about it.”
She nodded. “They almost have to. And they probably do it in that water, too.” She shuddered again. “No, thank you. There are just places I do notneed dirty bayou water.”
“It’s the poop that’s keeping you from skinny-dippin’?” Sawyer asked, clearly trying not to laugh. “You are really thinking about the wrong thing when it comes to bein’ wet and naked, darlin’.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 7, 2019

A sexy, small town, second chance rom com!

Thanks to a drawn-up-while-drinking-moonshine partnership agreement, Madison Allain has to spend thirty days back on the bayou before she can sell her part of the family business.

And if the heat and humidity and freaking alligators of Louisiana aren’t enough to agitate the cool and in-control California girl, then Owen Landry, the equally hot guy who stole her heart twelve years ago, will sure do the trick.

Owen just has to remember three simple-ish rules: Do not fight with her. Do not fight *over* her. Do *not* kiss her. He can do this. He’s charming and friendly for a living after all. But this is Maddie. The only woman to ever shake up this laid-back bayou boy.

Besides, she’s not staying. No way. These people and this town make her crazy. She doesn’t want to be crazy. She definitely does *not* want to own a swamp boat tour company. She just wants to paint. In her quiet, beautiful, alligators-not-allowed, *air-conditioned* art studio.

As for that hot bayou boy? Well, he’s… amazing. But he belongs here in the South. And she definitely doesn’t. Even if her heart stays behind when she leaves

Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives ( Owen and Madison) SWEET HOME LOUISIANA focuses on the second chance relationship between twenty-nine year old tour boat operator Owen Landry, and twenty-eight year old artist/gallery owner Madison Alain. Twelve years earlier Madison left the Bayou and her life behind, and heading to California to become something and someone else. Fast forward to present day wherein Madison must return to Autre, Louisiana to sell her late brother Tommy’s shares in the Boys of the Bayou swamp boat tour company, shares Madison inherited upon her brother’s death. But returning to Autre meant facing the family and the man she left behind, a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Enter Owen Landry. What ensues is the rekindling romance and relationship between Owen and Madison, and the potential fall-out as Madison’s time in Autre comes to an end.

According to the terms of the Boys of the Bayou contract, Madison must remain in Autre for thirty days, thirty days that keeps her in close contact with the Landry family. Hoping to convince Madison not to sell her shares, Owen and his brothers convince Madison to work for the company in an effort to rekindle the memories of a time long ago.

The relationship between Owen and Madison is one of second chances: a rebuilding friendship and relationship hurt but the craziness Madison believes affects her own form of crazy. Owen has never stopped loving our story line heroine and if Madison wants to sell her shares, Owen sets about making plans of his own. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to the Landry family, friends and business partners: Josh and Tori (My Best Friend’s Mardi Gras Wedding #1) sister Kennedy and long-suffering brother Sawyer: grandpa Leo, grandma Ellie, cousin Mitch; Aunt Cora, billionaire Bennett Baxter, and attorney Juliet Dawson and her brother Chase. Sawyer and Juliet’s story is next in BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU.

SWEET HOME LOUISIANA like My Best Friend’s Mardi Gras Wedding is a story of family and friendships; of second chances and falling in love; of struggle, grief, guilt and moving forward. The premise is entertaining, engaging and energetic; the romance is captivating and seductive; the characters are dynamic, charismatic and caring. My only issue is the conflict resolution -which is almost identical to the first instalment.

Owen felt his mouth curve into a grin as he heard the familiar clap, clap, clap behind him.
That was one of his favorite sounds—high heels on the wooden dock of the Boys of the Bayou swamp boat tour company.
He took his time turning and once he did, he started at the shoes.
They were black and showed off bright red toenails. The straps wrapped sexily around trim ankles and led the eye right up to smooth, toned calves. The heels matched the black polka dots on the white skirt that thankfully didn’t start until mid-thigh, and showed off more tanned skin.
He straightened from his kneeling position in one of the boats as his eyes kept moving up past the skirt to the bright red belt that accentuated a narrow waist and then to the silky black tank that molded to a pair of perfect breasts.
He was fully anticipating her lips being bright red to go with that belt and her toenail polish. God, he loved red lipstick. And high heels. In any color.
But before he could get to those lips, she used them, to say, “Oh, dammit, it’s you.”
Owen’s gaze bypassed her mouth to fly to her eyes. Because he’d know that voice anywhere.
Madison Allain was home.
A day early.
Not that an extra day would have helped him prepare. He’d been thinking about her visit for a week and was still as wound tight about it as he’d been when Sawyer, his business partner and cousin, had told him that she was coming home. For a month.
Owen stood just watching her, fighting back all of the first words that he was tempted to say.
Like, “Damn, you’re even more gorgeous than the last time I saw you.”
Or, “I haven’t put anyone in the hospital lately.”
Or, “I’ve missed you so fucking much.”
Just for instance.
She blew out a breath and now he did focus on her lips.
Yep, red. Terrific. That wasn’t going to make ignoring them any easier.
“I was hoping you were Sawyer,” she said, propping a hand on her hip.
Owen tossed the wrench he held into the toolbox at his feet. “Nope. Sorry.” So she wasn’t happy to see him. Big shocker. He hadn’t always been the perfect Southern gentleman around Maddie, that was for sure.
He wiped his hands on his jeans. Okay, he was supposed to be niceto her. That meant treating her like she was one of the tourists who frequented this dock. Polite. Friendly, but not I’ve-known-you-my-whole-life-and-kissed-you-a-whole-bunch friendly. Just mildly hey-how’s-it-goin’ friendly. So that she didn’t sell off her portion of the business that not only fed him and his other two partners, but that was their pride and joy. And the only thing he was really good at.
Nice. Polite. A little friendly—but not too much. He could do that.
Annoyed that within thirty seconds of seeing her again he was already thinking about kissing her, he kicked the toolbox, trying to slide it into the nook under the bow of the boat. Of course, he kicked it too hard and it tipped, spilling tools over the floor of the boat with loud clangs of metal against metal.
He shoved a hand through his hair. That was typical. Everything was an overreaction when it came to how he acted around Maddie. Even the little stuff. Certainly the big stuff. Always had been.
“Sawyer’s over at Ellie’s.” Owen pulled himself up out of the boat and onto the dock.
That took him about two feet closer to her and he instantly became aware that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. Very aware as Maddie’s eyes tracked over his shoulders, chest and abs.
The heat that arrowed through him was unwelcome. Though not unexpected. There had always been this crazy chemistry between them. Key word: crazy.

REVIEW: MY BEST FRIEND’S MARDI GRAS WEDDING is the first instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU erotic, romance series, a spin-off from the author’s BOYS OF THE BIG EASY series. This is bartender/bouncer and Bayou tour boat operator Josh Landry, and twenty-eight year old veterinarian Dr. Victoria ‘Tori’ Kramer’s story line. MY BEST FRIEND’S MARDI GRAS WEDDING can be read as a stand alone. It is not necessary to have read the previous series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Tori and Josh) MY BEST FRIEND’S MARDI GRAS WEDDING follows the second chance, building relationship between bartender/bouncer and Bayou tour boat operator Josh Landry, and twenty-eight year old veterinarian Dr. Victoria ‘Tori’ Kramer. Approximately one year earlier, during the Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, Louisiana Josh Landry met and fell hard for Tori Kramer, a veterinarian from Iowa but a woman who had quickly stolen his heart. With a promise to meet one year later, Tori went home but Josh never forgot about the one that got way. Fast forward to present day wherein Tori has returned to New Orleans for her best friend’s wedding, a return she hopes will reunite long, lost loves. Enter Josh Landry, the man with whom Tori will fall in love. What ensues is the rekindling relationship between Josh and Tori, and the potential fall-out as the New Orlean’s wedding plans spiral out of control.

Tori Kramer’s best friend Andrew believes himself to be guardian and protector of our story line heroine. With Andrew’s wedding only days away, Tori begins to fall hopelessly in love with a man she met one year earlier but a man Andrew struggles to accept or defend. Josh Landry knows Tori Kramer is his happily ever after but her best friend Andrew continues to run interference at each and every opportunity.

The relationship between Tori and Josh is one of second chances (of a sorts); a rekindling romance between two people separated by distance and obligations. Josh is determined to make Tori his own including proving he is worthy of her happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Tori’s best friend Andrew, and his fiancé Paisley, and several members of the bridal party; Josh’s NOLA extended Landry family, friends and business partners: Owen, Kennedy and Sawyer: their father Jeremiah, grandpa Leo, grandma Ellie, cousin Mitch; and Aunt Cora.

The world building continued to focus on the building relationship between Tori and Josh; Tori and Andrew’s friendship but also looked at the Landry family dynamics, their friendships, love and loss. I am looking forward to their stories. The family stories are fun and exciting.

MY BEST FRIEND’S MARDI GRAS WEDDING is a story of family, friendship, second chances and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is sexy and spicy; the characters are charismatic, sassy and spirited. MY BEST FRIEND’S MARDI GRAS WEDDING is an energetic and heart warming story.

Thirty minutes earlier, two blocks away…Tori was supposed to be the Best Man. If she was, she would be having drinks at some place called Trahan’s right now. Tori didn’t even care what they served there, only that it would be off Bourbon Street. And she’d be talking to Andrew and his friends. And not babysitting Paisley and her friends. All of whom made Tori want to stab her eardrums with the tiny colored plastic swords that were skewered through the pineapple chunks at the top of their drinks. Correction—all of whom made her feel like someone was stabbing her eardrums with tiny plastic swords. The subjects of their conversations were bad enough—how could anyone talk this much about shoes?—but the talking also never stopped. And then there was the giggling. And the squealing. Holy shit, the squealing. It got louder and more frequent the more of the icy, pink and green drinks the girls consumed. Andrew owed her big time.It was interesting that the guy from out of town was celebrating off Bourbon, while the girl who had grown up in New Orleans was the one getting shit-faced on the infamous party street. Paisley struck Tori as more the mint-juleps-on-the-front-porch type than the doing-shots-and-flashing-her-boobs-for-beads type. But she’d become that second type tonight. On Tori’s watch. Thanks, Andrew. At least he was going to be the one dealing with Paisley’s puking later. And her hangover tomorrow. Tori couldn’t imagine the Southern princess hungover. Yikes.Tori took a tiny sip of the pink concoction she held. And grimaced. She was a beer girl, when she drank at all. This was, obviously, meant to be consumed quickly and after several other drinks. But this was one of those places on Bourbon. It had the neon-on-steroids lights, the crowds of people, the overpriced-but-loaded-with-liquor drinks in collectible glasses that you’d never want to see again after spending the early morning hours kneeling next to the toilet. What the hell were they doing here? Paisley was a rich girl. Classy. A loud, screeching squeal went up from the herd of girls standing a few feet away and Tori rolled her eyes. Classy-ish. Apparently Paisley didn’t go out partying like this with her friends on a regular basis, and the rum and lights and festive atmosphere were getting to her. And, of course, the fact that people kept pinning dollar bills to her chest. It was a tradition, apparently, that if you saw a bride during her bachelorette party in the Quarter, you pinned money to the little clip she wore on her shirt. Or, in Paisley’s case, the very low-cut, tightly fit, strapless dress she wore. Oh, and then there were the masks. The masks were such a huge part of Mardi Gras that Paisley’s girlfriends had insisted they all wear them tonight. They were meant to obscure your identity and make it easier to just let go and revel in everything crazy and sinful.Paisley’s was a bright pink, glittery thing that matched her dress—including the sequins—and covered everything but her mouth. No one would know she was the daughter of Robert Darbonne, the past and very beloved Mayor of New Orleans and a current United States Senator. It was the main reason that Paisley’s father had agreed to let her take the bachelorette party down to Bourbon tonight. Her mother thought a tasteful cocktail party would be more appropriate. So they were doing that. Too. Tomorrow night. But Paisley’s bridesmaids—minus Tori—had insisted on taking her to Bourbon for a traditional bachelorette party. For better or worse.Paisley had grown up in the Garden District of New Orleans in a real, honest-to-God mansion on St. Charles Street, the only child of her politician father and nationally renowned neurosurgeon mother. Paisley was a princess. At least as far as Tori could tell. She dressed the part with lots of designer labels and flashy styles. She certainly acted the part too, making lots of demands and clearly expecting people to ask “how high” even before she said to jump. She was the most spoiled person Tori had ever met.And she was marrying Tori’s best friend, Andrew. In four days.Tori was in New Orleans, a part of the bridal party for a woman she barely knew and didn’t like, for an entire week-long wedding extravaganza. And the Darbonne family didn’t do “nontraditional” things like letting a woman be the groom’s first attendant. So Tori was the ninth bridesmaid—the last bridesmaid—standing up on Paisley’s side of the aisle. Tori took a bigger drink of the strawberry slush in her hand—and instantly regretted it—as Paisley stuck her chest out for a group of guys to pin bills to her dress and give her congratulations. Though “congratulations” really sounded a lot like “how about I make you wish you were staying single.” Tori wished Paisley was staying single. That was for sure. Not that anyone—especially Andrew—knew that. As far as he knew, Tori was happy for him and his bride-to-be. That was mostly thanks to the fact that Tori and Andrew didn’t often see each other in person. He’d been living in Louisiana and she’d been in Iowa for the past six years. Tori sighed as she thought about how things had changed between them. That was why she’d been so happy that he’d wanted her to be a part of his wedding. “You’re my oldest friend, Tori. You know me in a way no one else does. Of course you need to be a part of my wedding.” Those words were why she’d said yes to standing up at a wedding she didn’t really want to happen. She didn’t have a lot of close friends and none like Andrew, who she’d known since kindergarten and who had always liked her in spite of her weirdness. She missed him. Andrew had grown up next door to her, literally, and she couldn’t remember a time when she’d gone more than a day without talking to him even when they were both at Iowa State. It wasn’t until he’d gone to law school at Tulane that they started to talk less. She’d been in vet school, so they’d both been working hard and the time between phone calls had stretched, sometimes to a couple of weeks at a time. But it had been okay. Mostly. They had texting and Snapchat and Skype. Until he’d met Paisley. She’d swept him off his feet. A political science major, Andrew knew all about Paisley’s father, and the promise of a dinner with the famous, mostly-beloved Louisiana politician who they’d been courting to run for President—yes, of the United States—had been more than enough to get Andrew wrapped around Paisley’s dainty, perfectly manicured finger. He hadn’t come back from that first dinner as the Andrew Tori knew.“Oh my God, Paisley!” Jenna, one of Paisley’s bridesmaids, exclaimed as she finished her drink. “This is the most fun ever!”Tori felt her eye twitching. The girls were loving this because of the attention they were getting. Tori guessed that bachelorette parties always got a lot of attention from the men on Bourbon. Where else could you find entire herds of young, beautiful, tipsy women who were out for nothing but a good time?Oh yeah, pretty much anywhere else in New Orleans on any other day of any other week.Tori almost took another sip of her drink, but then remembered that she hated everything about the slushy pink mix of…whatever. She lowered it and sighed as she watched Paisley look at her phone, grin widely, and then show it to her friends. Andrew had just texted her a photo of him making a kissy face. What the hell had happened to Tori’s best friend?Paisley was exactly the opposite of everything Tori would have expected Andrew to fall for. She spent more time on her hair than Tori spent going from waking up to walking out the door. Paisley had studied early childhood development in college but had no intention of teaching. Or working with kids at all. She was clearly trained and intent on being a politician’s wife. And, maybe worst of all—no, definitely worst of all—Paisley didn’t like animals. She said she was allergic to both dogs and cats, but Tori thought it was really more that she was a terrible person.Tori again lifted her glass, thought for a second about just chugging it so she’d at least have some liquor in her system, opened her mouth, and then thought better of it. She lowered the glass again. Dammit, she wanted a beer. She never thought people were terrible. She didn’t like every person she’d ever met, of course, but mostly she gave people the benefit of the doubt and…avoided them as much as possible.Animals really were superior to people, in almost every sense, and spending her days taking care of everything from cats to cows, and even one alpaca, made Tori exceedingly happy. She watched Paisley’s friends gather around her for a selfie. They didn’t ask her to join in and she had no desire to. She knew that Paisley was putting up with her because of Andrew. No, scratch that. She knew that Paisley absolutely did not want her here. Why Andrew had told Tori that, she had no idea. Why he thought that she and Paisley should hang out tonight, she had no idea. Didn’t Andrew know Tori better than this? The two women had absolutely nothing—other than Andrew, she supposed—in common. That had been painfully clear when Tori had come to visit Andrew for Mardi Gras last year. Things had been tense and cool between the women, and Tori had ended up spending a lot of time alone while Paisley monopolized Andrew as if they didn’t see each other every single day. Of course, that had led Tori to Bourbon Street on Fat Tuesday last March, which had led her to Bourbon O, the bar five blocks from where she was right now, which had led her to Josh Landry. So she should probably be grateful to Paisley.Tori sighed again, but happily—maybe wistfully—this time.Tonight was Mardi Gras. The night. The only night she really cared about being in New Orleans. The night she was supposed to meet Josh Landry back at Bourbon O. If she wanted to. If he wanted to. If they were still thinking of each other. And dammit, she wanted to.She was definitely still thinking of him, and when Andrew had announced that he and Paisley were getting married the weekend after Mardi Gras and asked her to come, Tori had immediately decided to come for the festival and stay for the week-long extravaganza that was going to be Paisley Darbonne’s wedding. Not Andrew and Paisley’s wedding. This thing was all about the bride. Most women had one day. Maybe a weekend. Not Princess Paisley. The week before the wedding was filled with activities and meals and tours all designed to make the wedding in her hometown into something of a destination wedding for all of the Iowa guests. Tori hadn’t gotten to New Orleans until today, but she would have waited and shown up on Friday if it wasn’t for Josh Landry. And now she was five blocks away from the place they’d agreed to meet up. Just the fact that Josh had suggested this had been making her heart pound for nearly a year. Whenever she thought of it, anyway. It wasn’t like she thought about him constantly. Just once or twice. Every day. But this kind of stuff didn’t happen in her life. Her life was very…normal. Other than the occasional set of bovine twins or an injured mare, there were very few dramatic flares in Tori’s life.So what the hell was she doing even thinking about running down Bourbon Street to the bar where she’d first met Josh? They’d only spent about six hours together total and that hadn’t even been all at once. She’d sat across the bar from him as he worked for two nights. The first had only been for about an hour. The second had been for five hours. Five hours that had flown by. They’d only talked. And laughed. But, as she was leaving each night, he’d come after her. And kissed her. The best kisses of her life.Seriously. They were easily the best four out of the twenty-three she’d had. And then he’d asked her to come back a year later. After two nights of just talking. And four amazing kisses. That had all been enough to get him to ask her to come back. That was just…wow. And she was right here, after all. On Bourbon Street. On Mardi Gras. She could just pop in and see if he was there. He was maybe even working tonight. “Victoria!”She cringed as Paisley called to her across the bar. Paisley refused to call her Tori, no matter how many times Tori told her to.“Yes?”“You have to go and stall Andrew, okay?”It wasn’t a big place. Why did the girl think she needed to yell like that? Tori moved around the group of people between her and the perky blonde socialite with the hope that if she was standing closer to her, Paisley would lower her voice a little. “Stall him?” Tori asked. “Yeah, the girls and I are heading to the Hustler store,” Paisley said. Loudly. “But we’re supposed to meet them in like ten minutes. I need a little more time.” She winked from behind her pink sequined mask with the tiny bit of tulle attached like a veil to one corner. Well, helping Paisley pick out sex toys or lingerie for her and Andrew was not on Tori’s To-Do list tonight and hell yes, she’d love an excuse to meet up with the guys somewhere besides the craziness of Bourbon Street. She’d enjoyed it last year. It had been a part of the whole I’m-so-not-in-Iowa-anymore whirlwind she’d experienced. But Paisley had insisted that Andrew needed to attend her grandmother’s family dinner. Family only. Left out and pissed off that she’d nearly had to sell a kidney to afford her hotel room on Canal Street, Tori had stubbornly headed to the French Quarter on her own. It was freaking Mardi Gras. She wasn’t going to sit in her hotel room alone. But as soon as she’d stepped out onto the crazy, loud, crowded, holy-crap-there’s-nothing-in-Iowa-like-this street, she’d had a mini panic attack. It wasn’t safe. What the hell was she doing? So she’d ducked into the first place that had no neon in its windows. Bourbon O. She’d taken a seat at the bar and ordered a drink as she pulled her phone out to search for a local taxi company. Then she’d looked up and met Josh Landry’s gaze. He’d grinned at her. And she’d put her phone away. And now, here she was in New Orleans on Mardi Gras again…and irritated on Bourbon because of Paisley again. But if she went and found Josh, he’d make her grateful for the turn of events all over again. She couldn’t help that thought. Her trip to New Orleans had turned out to be amazing last time. Maybe it could be again.“I will definitely go find Andrew,” Tori said, setting her glass down and pulling her phone out to find out where Andrew was.“Oh, they’re on their way to Bourbon O,” Paisley said. “It’s just up the street.”Tori lifted her head and stared at her. She would have had Paisley repeat the name of the bar if the other girl wasn’t completely incapable of talking softly. Tori had not misheard her. Andrew was on his way to the very place Tori wanted to be. “Great. I’ll meet them there.” She tucked her phone into her back jeans pocket, her heart thundering. This was a great chance for a little time with her best friend. She’d come in that morning and had been promptly caught up in getting settled at the plantation—of course Paisley was having her wedding at a plantation—and then heading for Bourbon.Tori and Andrew hadn’t had any alone time just to talk in over a year. Even when they got on the phone together, Paisley was there in the background. So yeah, she and Andrew needed some time alone to catch up and talk. And, yes, Tori needed to hear and see in his eyes that he really wanted to marry Paisley. But she was going to be meeting him at Bourbon O. Where Josh Landry might be working behind the bar. And if he was, and she walked in, he’d think she was there for him.And she would be. She definitely would be.Would he be happy to see her? Shocked? Would he remember her?Suddenly her stomach plummeted down to somewhere around her pinky toe. Why had it never occurred to her that Josh might not even remember her? But that was very possible. The guy met hundreds of people every single weekend. And the guy was obviously a player. What were the chances she was the only out-of-towner that he’d charmed and laughed with? How many times had he used that suggestion to send a woman off with a soft smile and thoughts of how romantic and amazing he was?But dammit…now she couldn’t not go to Bourbon O. Andrew would be there. And even if Paisley hadn’t sent Tori to meet him, she wanted the chance for a few minutes alone with him. In the chaotic sea of people on Bourbon Street.“How long do you think it will take Andrew to get to Bourbon O?” Tori asked Paisley. She shrugged. “Trahan’s is several blocks over, and with this crowd? It could be a while.” She giggled. “But getting up to Hustler is going to take us some time too.”Okay, so it might take Andrew a while. Whereas Tori was just five blocks away. Sure, she’d have to get through the crowd too, but she had a few blocks head start. Which meant, she could pop in there, see if Josh was working, see if he recognized her and if he acted thrilled…or like a serial killer stalker had just shown up…and then duck back out if it was the latter. She could catch Andrew on the sidewalk and talk him into another bar instead. With a deep breath, she stepped out onto the sidewalk and started down Bourbon without another glance at Paisley. It was slow going for sure. Tori scowled as she jerked back to avoid a guy’s elbow and a set of beads flying from somewhere overhead. Then she was hit right in the cheek with a strand of pink beads the color of Paisley’s dress and mask tonight. Tori frowned up at the balcony full of drunk frat guys. No, she wasn’t going to show them her boobs. Or anyone else her boobs. Unless it was Josh Landry.
