Jared
They say love and hate dance together along the same line.
My feelings for Layla don’t dance on the line; they destroy it.
It’s been seven years since she disappeared without a trace.
And now she’s back, but things have changed—I’ve changed.
I’m no longer the Jared she remembers, the boy who wanted to protect her.
I’m very much my father’s son, and I take what I want, and what I want is Layla.
But this time, I’m keeping her forever.
Layla
Seven years—that’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen him.
After painstakingly putting myself back together, I’m finally ready to start a life without his memory chasing my every step.
Imagine my surprise when my new beginning leads me straight back to him.
Only he’s not the boy I remember.
He’s angry.
Damaged.
Hiding secrets that want to destroy him.
He hates me. He wants me.
I’m not sure I’ll survive the man he has become. His demons threaten to destroy us both.

REVIEW:SAVE ME is the second instalment in Vi Carter’s contemporary, new adult BROKEN PEOPLE dark, erotic, romance duet focusing on nineteen year olds Jared McGivney and Layla Masters. SAVE ME can not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME. There is a slight cross over with the author’s Young Irish Rebels/ Wild Irish series.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read book one there may be spoilers in my review.
SOME BACKGROUND: Jared and Layla met and grew up in the foster care system, a system that let down our story line couple. Seven years earlier, following a catastrophic injury, twelve year old, Layla disappeared, leaving Jared to fight the system, and their abusers, on his own.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jared and Layla) SAVE ME picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME in which Layla is the victim of an attack that has left our heroine struggling to survive. Unable to recall the events leading up to that fateful night, Layla struggles with the confusion only to realize the young man she has always loved is keeping secrets about what happened and why. Battling between head and heart, Layla’s love for Jared never falters but his secrets and lies are threatening the tepid truce and reconciliation between our story line couple. As Jared sets a plan into motion seeking to avenge the attack on Layla Masters, ghosts from the past resurface threatening to take down the man that Layla loves.
The relationship between Layla and Jared continues to grow; a second chance love affair between two people broken by the system, destroyed by betrayal, power and control but all is not well in the McGivney household, and another betrayal is about to tear Jared apart. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include Layla’s adopted parents Evelyn and Carl Masters; Jared’s father Athar McGivney, and his mother Maura; Irish Mafia son Warren O’Reagan (Young Irish Rebels series); as well as fellow students Ashley, Abby, and Caroline, and the mean girls including Jared’s ex Alex. The requisite evil have many faces.
SAVE ME is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and control, desperation, power, greed and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are struggling, broken but trying to heal. There is quite a bit going on; quite a few twists and turns, and surprising revelations but saying that I felt there were too many details missing with regards to the divulging of the truth and the past- I was hoping for more intimate specifics and particulars.
