REVIEW: DEATHMARCH is the seventh instalment in Dana Marton’s contemporary, adult BROSLIN CREEK romantic suspense series focusing on the people of Broslin Creek, Pennsylvania. This is police detective Harper Finnegan, and stage performer Allie Bianchi’s story line. DEATHMARCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Allie and Harper) DEATHMARCH follows Allie Bianchi’s return to Broslin Creek, ten years after the man that she loved pushed our heroine out of his life. Allie’s father was the town pariah, and in the aftermath of her father’s criminal activities Allie was presumed guilty by association, and left out to dry. Returning to the town where she grew up, Allie has been hired to perform for the local historical society but never expected to be arrested for robbery and murder of a local man. Enter Detective Harper Finnegan, the man that destroyed Allie’s heart years before. Found with evidence in the trunk of her car, Allie is arrested and presumed guilty for sins of her father. As Harper Finnegan begins an investigation to clear our heroine of murder, Allie finds herself the target of more than one person. What ensues is the slow rekindling relationship between Allie and Harper, and the potential fall-out as Allie becomes collateral damage from several directions.

Independent and strong willed Allie Bianchi never thought she would return to Broslin Creek, let alone find herself stranded in a snowstorm, eventually charged with murder but Detective Harper Finnegan wasn’t joking when he handcuffed the woman he used to love, a woman whose reputation has been tarnished by her father’s past. Nothing has gone right with Allie’s return, and the town gossip mills work overtime to ensure Allie isn’t welcome.

The secondary and supporting characters included several of the Broslin Creek regulars and a group of doomsday preppers, as well as Harper’s brother Kennan, their parents Rose and Sean Finnegan; Murphy and Kat (Deathwatch 1); Sophie and Ethan Bing (Deathtrap 3); detective Chase Merritt (Broslin Bride 5); and former high school bully Brittany Wallingford.

The relationship between Allie and Harper is one of second chances: a rekindling romance between two people torn apart by betrayal and family. The premise is engrossing and engaging; the characters are strong, colorful and energetic; the romance is tender, and the lone $ex scene is mostly implied.

DEATHMARCH is a story of mistaken beliefs, and presumptive guilt, second chances and forgiveness. The premise is captivating and enjoyable; the characters are spirited and inspiring.
