REVIEW:CAPTIVATE is the fifth instalment in KE Osborn’s contemporary, adult NOLA Defiance MC erotic, MC romance series. This is thirty-five year old, Jay ‘Raid’ and thirty year old, club girl Frankie’s story line. CAPTIVATE can be read as a standalone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Raid and Frankie) CAPTIVATE follows in the wake of the appearance of ghosts from the past. Approximately fifteen years earlier our hero Jay had fallen in love with his best friend Sophie but hours before Jay was about to propose, Sophie ghosted Jay without looking back. Fast forward to present day Jay, now known as Raid, and a member of the NOLA Defiance MC, comes face to face with the woman that destroyed his heart but Sophie is sick , and she isn’t alone. Raid has a daughter, a young woman he knew nothing about, a fourteen year old teenager that is struggling with what is happening and why. Meanwhile, Raid’s attraction to club girl Frankie must be put on hold in the wake of the impending grief and fall-out of Sophie’s return. As Raid battles between head and heart, Frankie takes Addi under her wing, knowing life as she knows it is about to change. What ensues is the building relationship between Frankie and Raid, as Raid struggles to navigate fatherhood, and the death of someone he once loved.

Meanwhile, the NOLA Defiance MC continue to have problems with Iron Chains MC. From human trafficking to stolen drug shipments, the Iron Chains MC is pushing into the Defiance territory, a push that will directly affect the lives of the people Raid loves.

The relationship between Frankie and Raid is a ‘friends’ to lovers relationship. Frankie is the top club girl, and as such her job is to ensure everyone is happy and knows their place but Frankie, having been with most men in the club, only has eyes for our story line hero, a man who continues to push our heroine to the side. With the appearance of Raid’s past, Frankie accepts that his heart and mind are with someone else but our heroine is strong enough to know, that there is little reason to be jealous of a ghost from the past. The $ex scenes are erotic and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including many of the NOLA Defiance MC members and Iron Chains MC. We are introduced to Raid’s daughter Addilyn, and her mother Sophie, as well s Frankie’s friends and classmates Jasmine and Dan. The requisite evil has many faces.

CAPTIVATE is a story of secrets and lies, family and relationships, forgiveness and acceptance, grief and love. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are charismatic and strong willed.
