REVIEW: SURRENDER is the third and final installment in Lisa Renee Jones’s contemporary, adult CARELESS WHISPERS romantic suspense series focusing on billionaire businessman Kayden Wilkens, and Ella Ferguson. The Careless Whispers series is a spin off from Lisa’s INSIDE OUT series. Ella is Sara McMillan’s (Inside Out Series) best friend and has gone missing following a trip to Europe. You do not have to have read the INSIDE OUT SERIES to follow the premise of the Careless Whispers series. SURRENDER should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately upon the events of book two DEMAND.
SOME BACKGROUND: While in Italy, American citizen Ella Ferguson was found battered and bruised from an attack that left our heroine with a concussion and traumatic amnesia. Waking up in the hospital beside a beautiful stranger found Ella in a world of confusion with no memories including her own identity and the reasons for her present situation. Enter Kayden Wilkens, American billionaire and Leader of the Italian branch of The Underground (treasure hunting operation) and the man who claims to have saved Ella’s life.
Told from first person point of view (Ella Ferguson) with a few chapters from Sara McMillan’s POV, SURRENDER reveals the truth behind Ella’s trip to Europe, and her connection to the missing butterfly necklace reported to be worth over three hundred million dollars. As Ella’s memory slowly returns the danger increases as the French and Italian mobs search for the missing piece of jewelry, targeting Ella is a dangerous game of hide and seek. As powerful a man as Kayden Wilkens is, he is unable to protect the woman that he loves. What ensues is the return of Ella’s memories, and a planned attack against those threatening everyone Ella loves.
SURRENDER is an exciting and action packed story line of revenge, betrayal, power and love. He strides toward me, his energy predatory in this moment. Actually, there is always something rather predatory about him, which is far too sexy to ensure conversation, especially after today’s shift in events. I could be CIA. I could be his enemy, no matter what he says otherwise, and really, truly, right now, I just want to feel him close, to get lost with him in the way he makes me get lost. But there are things bigger than us at stake, things that are far too complicated and dangerous to indulge in such desires, even if they feel almost as if they are needs.
