Carly: Thank you for having me again, Sandy.

TRC: For anyone who does not know Carly Fall, please tell us something about yourself?

Carly: I am a wife, a mother and a slave to the dog, Nicky. I love to laugh, I think chocolate and wine should be considered their own food group, and I wish Christmas happened twice a year.

TRC: The Six Saviors blog tour is to help promote your paranormal/sci fi series about the heroes and heroines from planet SR44. Would you please tell us about the premise of the series?

Carly: Two hundred years ago, terrible criminals escaped from SR44 and came to Earth. The Six Saviors were sent to eradicate them, but things didn’t go quite as planned. This series is the stories of the Saviors, their hunt for the criminals, and falling in love. Each book focuses on one specific Savior.

TRC: What and who do you have planned for the next Six Savior’s installment?

Carly: HA! I knew you’d ask this 🙂 The next installment of the Six Saviors will feature Nico. He’s interesting because he’s a Dream Walker. Without giving too much away, there will be drama (of course), danger, and hopefully love for Nico.

TRC: I had to ask. You know that 😉

TRC: What or who was your inspiration behind the premise of the series?

Carly: The inspiration for the series was a tour of a decommissioned missile silo in Tucson (the Six Saviors live in a missile silo). I started thinking how cool it would be to live in one, and then my husband and I started joking about aliens living in missile silos (I know – we’re weird), and the premise of the story was born.

TRC: If you could virtually cast the lead characters for the Six Saviors series, which models or actors would be represent your ideal images?

Carly: The guys on the covers are pretty close to how I see them in my mind. I spend hours going through pictures to get them as close as possible.

TRC: Do you have a favorite character or one that tugs at your heart more than the others?

Carly: I don’t. I love all the Saviors and their mates for different reasons. Noah is temperamental, Rayner is sweet, Hudson is suave and deadly, Jovan is also sweet, but very rough around the edges, and Cohen is brooding and somewhat dark. In the next book, we will see him lighten up a bit and get back to the guy he was before the tragedy.

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception about the series?

Carly: The biggest misconception about the series is people thinking – yuck – aliens! And I get that because of Hollywood’s portrayal of them. However, my aliens are beautiful in their original form, as well as their human forms. It used to be that vampires and werewolves were vilified, and we see where that has gone. I think it’s time for some hot aliens to get some love.

TRC: If you could go back and change something/anything about the series would you? Why or why not?

Carly: I thought about this for a long time before answering, and honestly, I can’t think of anything that I would change about the series. There are some plot lines that people have been very upset about, but to me, that’s good. That means that my readers are emotionally invested in the stories.

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Carly: I try to direct them, but they are stubborn and sometimes more creative than me. Let’s call it a collaborative effort

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (historical, research, logistics) did you encounter writing this particular story/series?

Carly: Time. There’s never enough time. That and when the characters aren’t cooperating.

TRC: How do you keep the plot(s) unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

Carly: The thing I love about writing the fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal is that boundaries can be pushed. Everyone can love a little harder, the drama can be ratcheted up, and the twist and turns in the stories can go beyond “real life.” I try to push those boundaries to the limit without “jumping the shark,” so to speak. When I do go too far, my editor is there to reel me in and get me back in line.

TRC: How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of deadlines while still having time to raise a family?

Carly: I try to keep it in perspective. I know my readers are waiting for the next book – I get emails every single day asking when the next one is going to come out. However, I also have a son who is eight. He needs his mom, and his mom needs him. He’s my number one priority, and when I get stressed and start thinking about books and deadlines, I’ll go play with him or curl up on the couch with him and watch WWE Wrestling. It’s very soothing and relaxing being with my son. He doesn’t know it, but he keeps me grounded.

TRC: If you were stranded on a deserted island with whom would you like to be partnered and why? Which three items would be your ‘must haves and can’t do without’?

Carly: Well, I would want my son there, and I suppose I would have to take my husband, although he might just drive me crazy complaining about bugs or something. I would also take Joe Manganiello because he’s big and strong and I would enjoy watching him work. Really enjoy watching him. And he’s big. And strong. And pretty.

TRC: What are your thoughts on book reviews-good or bad?

Carly: Book reviews are both good and bad. I realize that every book is not for everybody. I do a little reviewing myself, and sometimes I will pick up a book and wonder where in the heck all the good reviews came from because I HATE it. However, as an author, it can hurt when you see a bad review. I would much rather get a bad review that is well thought out and has valid points (or at least the reviewer thinks they are valid :)) than one where the reviewer just slams the book without backing up their statements. You need a tough skin and a bottle of gin to be an author.

On the other hand, a good review can have an author walking on air for hours, if not days.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Carly: The next installment of the Six Saviors.

This is the book that was never supposed to be written. It was inspired by fans of the Six Saviors Series who wanted a little more of Beverly and Hudson from REBORN. If you haven’t read REBORN, this book is not for you.

There’s no doubt that Beverly has had her share of ups and downs. When we last left her in REBORN, she had told Hudson that she was pregnant with his child, he was happy about it, and they were about to be mated.

In Destiny’s Shift, we see Beverly and Hudson happy with their baby, but what happened in between those two books?

REVIEW: AGAINST THE ROPES is the latest contemporary romance short story from Carly Fall. Approximately 135 pages in length, Against The Ropes is a novel about second chances, forgiveness and saying goodbye.

Five year ago, Dylan Gomez and Regan Holloway were a couple-but fame, a cocky-attitude, alcohol and wrong choices would send Dylan spiraling out of control, losing the woman that he loves and eventually his freedom. But a chance at reconciliation with Regan, will find Dylan a different man. Hoping to prove himself worthy of her love, Dylan tries one more time to be a contender both in and out of the boxing ring.

The sexual relationship between Dylan and Regan has already been established as the couple is well known to each other but a history of betrayal and thoughts of forgiveness will find Regan contemplating whether or not to risk loving a man who has yet to prove he has changed. But over the course of a few weeks, Dylan and Regan will be pushed together by a mutual friend who knows that what Dylan and Regan need is each other.

There are a few secondary characters, especially Dylan’s manager and substitute father Max who keeps Dylan on the straight and narrow, and it is Max who will be the proverbial match-maker when he sees something in Dylan and Regan that both were too stubborn to admit. To love someone means to forgive but forgetting will be a much harder thing to do.

The character development is thorough considering the relatively short length of the novel, but since the characters already knew each other there was none of the push and pull of a new relationship-only the rebuilding of trust and love. The world building was minimal as most of the storyline focused on the characters and their relationship to one another.

Carly Fall has written a romantic, heartwarming and endearing storyline of forgiveness and love. To forgive someone for, not one but two past transgressions, takes a much stronger person than many of us ever hope to be but the storyline scenario demonstrates that not only can we forgive but we can love again. There are a couple of moments of heartbreak and loss, but the HEA is well deserved and one that we can all aspire to in our own lives.

REVIEW: The blurb is very explicit and detailed and relays a good portion of the premise but the emotional and heartbreaking guilt that threatens to destroy two of the Six Saviors is anything but simple. And for those who have not read my previous reviews, I will repeat the background information.

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth over 212 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. The Colonists, as they were soon called, made their way to Earth, took the human body form, mated with the females and populated the earth with Colonist DNA. The savior warriors are part of the elite military from planet SR44, commissioned to remove the Colonists from Earth, but as the Colonists continued to breed, so too did their offspring and the number of inhabitants on earth with Colonist DNA is unknown. The Six Saviors have been unsuccessful in their attempts to locate all of the original Colonists and anyone with Colonist DNA.

Tangled Fates is not only the title but is the psychological and emotional fall out in the aftermath of the destruction of planet SR44 and the ensuing guilt that burdens the survivors-guilt that has been placed upon the warriors by themselves as well as the few who literally fell to earth to keep their species alive. The fate of all those who remain has been threatened by a rogue group of warriors, known as the Platoon, hell-bent on revenge against the original warriors sent to earth over two hundred years ago.

Believing and hoping the Six Saviors had eradicated all threats against the SR44ians, The Platoon make it their mission to destroy anyone with a history of evil, and in doing so may have inadvertently revealed the existence of the SR44 to the human population of Earth. Not only does The Platoon hope to remove all traces of The Colonists but they want the Six Saviors to pay for the destruction of their planet.

Tangled Fates is a darker storyline and one that drew on the reader’s emotions and personal entanglement with the series characters and premise. We watch as two of their own sit on the precipice of self-destruction knowing that in truth one or both may not return. With the death of a mate, sorrow and grief become the survivor’s companion, but when the death of one’s mate destroys the soul and the very essence of the man, the journey will be difficult for those left behind.

Carly has written a storyline where grief and sorrow manifest themselves in different ways and at times it was difficult to accept the behavior of the bereaved. Everyone handles death in a different way and Tangled Fates is a storyline that will touch many readers who have grown to love the Six Saviors of SR44.

REVIEW: CHICA BELLA is a short story in the Honor Guard Series of novellas. This particular storyline is a contemporary romance novella about Navy SEAL Landon Walker and the decision he must make as to whether to return for a sixth tour of duty or remain behind and claim the woman who has stolen his heart.

Landon has given his commander two weeks-two weeks to find a replacement. Landon is tired of the blood; the death and the heartbreaking sorrow of war. Returning State side, Landon goes to the one place he hopes he will be welcomed with open arms. And if the woman he loves is willing to forgive him for breaking her heart, Landon will be willing to start a new life and a new career in the small Mexican resort town that has welcomed him home.

Chica Bella is a storyline that focuses on one man’s decision to put the horrors of war behind and face the possibility that it may be too late for his heart. Carly Fall pulls the reader into the storyline with our hero’s heartbreaking angst that the woman he loves may have moved on without him. But in true contemporary romance style, there will be a HEA but not before our heroine believes that she has come second-once again. Chica Bella is a well-written sometimes heart breaking AND heartwarming short story perfect for a lazy afternoon.

Mason Jackson knows his marriage to Bridget is in trouble. He’s been putting in exhausting hours for months to try to make partner in his accounting firm. He knows that it is putting a strain on his marriage, but he has trouble escaping the memory of the poverty of his childhood. He never wants his wife, or the children they yearn for, to know the struggle that he endured when he can provide a better life for them. But things are reaching breaking point; he and Bridget are more like roommates than a married couple. He needs to think of a way to get their marriage back on track and what better way than to make Valentine’s Day, Bridget’s favorite holiday of the year, a new start for their marriage? Mason puts in place plans for an elaborate evening designed to surprise Bridget.

Bridget is miserable in her marriage, and often longs for the days when they were dirt poor. They may have struggled financially, but at least she had her husband around. Mason is always working, and Bridget feels that he has chosen his work over her. She’s tried to talk to him about the way she feels, but he doesn’t seem to hear her. He just keeps telling her that once he makes partner then everything will be all right. But Bridget is sick of Mason forgetting the things that are important to her … like their anniversary a few months ago. She is at the end of her tether and decides that if he forgets Valentine’s Day, her favorite day of the year, then divorce just might be on the cards.

At the end of the day, this couple has only one decision to make: Time or Money?

Excerpt:

Mason Jackson finished with the last loop of his striped blue and black tie and shimmied the knot up to his throat. He ran his hands over his gray button-down shirt and tucked it into his black pants.

Mason studied his reflection in the mirror. His eyes were blue; the same ocean blue as in his tie, and his thick, black hair needed a trim. There were a few gray hairs at his temples. He reached for the tweezers to pluck them out. He wasn’t quite ready for the older, distinguished gentleman look yet.

His nose bent slightly off-center, the result of a break when he played high school football, and his just-shaved skin was tanned from weekends on the golf course. He stood at six foot two, and his wife had described him as “ruggedly good looking.” What that meant, he wasn’t sure, but as long as she was happy with it, so was he.

Not quite as muscular as he had been in his twenties, at thirty-five he was trim and looked pretty good; there wasn’t a sign of that gut that seemed to plague many of his male friends and colleagues who were the same age. Even with his grueling work schedule as a chartered accountant, he managed to find time to exercise a few times a week.

Checking his watch, he figured he would make it to the office by seven. He was trying to make partner at his financial firm, and had been told that the more hours he put in and the more money he made for the firm, the better his chances. So for the past six months, he had been getting to the office early each morning and staying late.

He turned and looked at his bed where his wife, Bridget, or Ms. B, as he sometimes called her, slept soundly, oblivious to his gaze. Wrapped up beneath the dark-brown comforter in the fetal position, and looking as if she were trying to avoid the approaching morning, she reminded him of Pigs in a Blanket, his favorite breakfast from his childhood.

She definitely wasn’t a morning person. The sunlight that was starting to peek through the blinds glistened off her short, blonde hair. It looked a little lighter than usual, but he hadn’t noticed until now. He wondered when she had gotten it colored and chastised himself for not seeing the change sooner.

As Mason stared at the shining tips, he smiled as he remembered the first time he had laid eyes on her, which was at an AC/DC concert of all places. She was seated two rows ahead of him and had caught his eye right away. During the concert he had paid little attention to the band, his focus being on her and her then long, blonde hair that swayed across the middle of her back as she danced. At some point during the concert she turned around and smiled at him. When their eyes met, he knew he was a goner. After the concert, he asked her out, and they had been inseparable from then on. A year later they were married, and she had given him the surprise of his life on their wedding day when she had all of her hair cut off into the sexy blonde spikes she wore now. He loved the short hair more than the long, blonde waves.

His smile faded as he thought, yet again, about how long it had been since they’d spent any quality time together. They hadn’t made love in over two months. Their respective jobs kept them both so busy; it seemed like there wasn’t time to do anything but work, eat, sleep, and do it all over again the next day.

He’d been at the office until nine the previous night and had come home exhausted. He and Bridget had a stilted conversation in the kitchen about their days for ten minutes over a glass of wine, and then they had gone to bed. Mason was asleep within seconds. It seemed as though if they weren’t arguing, they had trouble talking about anything. There was so much tension and strain in the relationship, he felt like he had to be careful with every word that came out of his mouth. Frankly, sometimes it was just easier to not say anything at all.

Right now they were more roommates than a married couple, and roommates that weren’t getting along very well. There wasn’t the connection that they used to share.

Marveling at how far they had grown apart, he recalled the first months of their marriage when they lived in a small studio apartment. They were happy with macaroni and cheese for dinner, boxes of wine, and each other. He looked around the huge bedroom with its expensive Southwest decor; done in warm browns, rust colors, and deep yellows. The travertine floors gleamed white. It was about the size of the small apartment he grew up in. He was proud of his success and having risen above the poverty that plagued his childhood, but as he stared back at his wife, he felt utter loneliness shudder through him.

Mason loved Bridget now more than the day he married her five years ago, and he couldn’t imagine his life without her in it. His heart literally hurt to think about that scenario. However, he did know that something had to give in the relationship. They had to find some way to reconnect, to become a couple again. Four years ago they had talked about starting a family, and he still wanted that. But for a family to happen there had to be a set of loving parents.

If they kept this up, Mason knew they were destined for a divorce that he didn’t want.

He sighed, running his hand through his hair. Yes, they needed some time to talk, some time to get reacquainted and, dammit, he needed to get his hands on her sweet little body and make love to her.
