Time or Money

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 11, 2013

Mason Jackson knows his marriage to Bridget is in trouble. He’s been putting in exhausting hours for months to try to make partner in his accounting firm. He knows that it is putting a strain on his marriage, but he has trouble escaping the memory of the poverty of his childhood. He never wants his wife, or the children they yearn for, to know the struggle that he endured when he can provide a

better life for them. But things are reaching breaking point; he and Bridget are more like roommates than a married couple. He needs to think of a way to get their marriage back on track and what better way than to make Valentine’s Day, Bridget’s favorite holiday of the year, a new start for their marriage? Mason puts in place plans for an elaborate evening designed to surprise Bridget.

Bridget is miserable in her marriage, and often longs for the days when they were dirt poor. They may have struggled financially, but at least she had her husband around. Mason is always working, and Bridget feels that he has chosen his work over her. She’s tried to talk to him about the way she feels, but he doesn’t seem to hear her. He just keeps telling her that once he makes partner then

everything will be all right. But Bridget is sick of Mason forgetting the things that are important to her … like their anniversary a few months ago. She is at the end of her tether and decides that if he forgets Valentine’s Day, her favorite day of the year, then divorce just might be on the cards.

At the end of the day, this couple has only one decision to make: Time or Money?

********************

REVIEW: TIME OR MONEY is a short storyline-less than fifty pages in length that focuses on a few hours in the life of Mason and Bridget Jackson but tells of a lifetime of empty promises and broken hearts. Bridget has given herself an ultimatum-if her husband Mason ignores Valentine’s Day she is walking away for good. And following a series of mishaps, including a fall at home and the destruction of her cell phone, Bridget comes home to an empty house with no message from her husband and no acknowledgment on this day for lovers. As you can image, emotions and anxiety set off a roller coaster of built up tension and pent up anger and our couple must chose between two options-make time for each other or go for the money. Which would you choose?

TIME OR MONEY is an eye-opening short story that is probably very familiar to many people. Many couples find themselves in a rut-their daily lives taking them forward one day at a time-and in many cases-alone. Carly takes the reader on a very personal but short journey that reveals a lifetime of hurt and tears, when a couple grows apart, if for no other reasons, then to get ahead in the working world.

BEVERLY’S REBIRTH (Six Saviors Novella) by Carly Fall

ABOUT THE BOOK:  Released January 2013

This is the book that was never supposed to be written. It was inspired by fans of the Six Saviors Series who wanted a little more of Beverly and Hudson from REBORN. If you haven’t read REBORN, this book is not for you.

There’s no doubt that Beverly has had her share of ups and downs. When we last left her in REBORN, she had told Hudson that she was pregnant with his child, he was happy about it, and they were about to be mated.

In Destiny’s Shift, we see Beverly and Hudson happy with their baby, but what happened in between those two books?

A lot.

This is Beverly’s journey into motherhood.  And it’s not an easy ride.  This book also answers the question that many readers emailed me about: What are they going to do with Beverly being fully human?

**********

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth 212 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. The Colonists, as they were soon called, made their way to Earth, took the human body form, mated with the females and populated the earth with Colonist DNA. The savior warriors are part of the elite military from planet SR44, commissioned to remove the Colonists from Earth. The beings on planet SR44 are incorporeal bodies of mist and smoke, each bearing a different color, but in their corporeal bodies on Earth, their eyes will glow their familiar- planet SR44 color each evening.

REVIEW:  Beverly’s Rebirth follows Beverly and Hudson as they traverse the minefield known as pregnancy and birth.  But unlike most humans, Beverly is about to give birth to a child that is half human/half SR44-in other words-a different species.  Without any prior knowledge, Beverly and Hudson, along with Cohen must endeavor to deliver a baby into the world-only everything does not go according to plan.

Part of the storyline takes Beverly on a journey of faith and rebirth and, one that is personal as well as otherworldly.  While Beverly tries to understand and convince the higher powers where it is she wants to be, Hudson must remain behind and convince himself that all is not lost-which isn’t easy when his entire life comes crashing down around him.

There are some moments that will be familiar to every woman who has ever given birth-the need to strangle one’s mate comes to mind.  And there are moments of heartbreak and sorrow when a man thinks he has lost –his everything.

Beverly’s Rebirth is a well-written, short story that fills in the missing information between Reborn and Destiny’s Shift.  And like Carly pointed out, you must read the series to understand the storyline and premise.  Without the background information and previous personal history, this novella will be lost to anyone who has not had the opportunity to read the series.  Carly’s Six Savior series is a must read for fans of the paranormal with a slight-very slight-science fiction premise (if only because our amazing heroes are from another planet). I want my own SR44ian

NOTE: Carly will be offering the first four books (excluding this novella) as one of our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY prize package giveaways. If you would like a chance at the Six Saviors Series Giveaway come back on February 18 at 5pm for your chance.

DESTINY’S SHIFT (Six Saviors #4) by Carly Fall (Released December 15, 2012)

ABOUT THE BOOK: One hundred and fifty years ago, Warrior Jovan of the Six Saviors realized he had a gift: the ability to feel emotions through touch. Over the years, the gift has intensified allowing him to hear others thoughts, and this uncontrolled skill has forced him to keep his distance from both humans and those of his race. He fears the impact on his sanity if he doesn’t.

Liberty, an SR44 female has come to Earth by a set of circumstances beyond her control. Born into a life of servitude on SR44, she is alone, afraid, and stumbling her way through learning the customs and language of her new home on Earth. When Jovan meets Liberty, it becomes clear that they are of the same species, and Jovan takes Liberty under his wing, despite his commitment to himself to limit interaction with others.

As Liberty reveals the reasons for her coming to Earth, it becomes apparent that the Six Saviors are in danger, not only from the FBI, but also from those who have journeyed to Earth with Liberty, and they are seeking revenge. Jovan must quickly learn to control his gift, and Liberty is the only one who can help him. As they deal with danger from all sides, Jovan and Liberty must find a way to compromise on the lives they desire, or they will be forced to go their separate ways.

This is Jovan’s story and his eyes are emerald green.

I love the Six Savior series by Carly Fall. Early last year I won a copy of Carly’s second storyline in her Six Savior series-Finding My Faith-and I have been a big fan ever since. Destiny’s Shift introduces several more beings from planet SR44 and one in particular will bring about a change in Jovan that he never thought possible. Carly has brought together more of the inhabitants from planet SR44 and not everyone is happy under the circumstances. With their introduction into the stories, Carly opens up a much larger field of potential storylines and relationship scenarios.

Jovan and Liberty’s relationship follows the usual romance storyline premise. Jovan was a reluctant SR44 male who wanted nothing to do with looking after a mate, especially one that came with baggage in the form of an over-protective big brother, but Jovan’s attraction to Liberty could not be denied. Even many of the other members of the communal household saw the attraction between the couple before anyone involved was willing to admit there was something between the pair. And Liberty as naïve and innocent as she was, soon learned what it was she wanted and she wanted Jovan. And apparently Liberty has a thing for leather.

Carly adds another familiar face to the storyline-an overzealous FBI agent who knows more about the Warriors than anyone thought. When he reveals the information about the missing SR44 beings, the Warriors are forced to bring this stranger into their fold, and in doing so another potential storyline for one of the beings from planet SR44.

The Six Savior series and Destiny’s Shift by Carly Fall is a well-written and fascinating storyline and, one that brings a tear or two to my eyes every time-and Destiny’s Shift is no exception. My heart broke for a couple of the Saviors when they ‘lose their everything’ and you can almost feel the anguish of Jovan’s gift whenever he is in proximity of those suffering and in pain. Carly has written an amazing series of characters with whom I have fallen in love and I know you will too.

REBORN (Six Savior #3) by Carly Fall-a review and guest post

REBORN (Six Saviors #3) by Carly Fall

REBORN is the third storyline (August 8, 2012 release) in Carly Fall’s Six Savior series.

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth 211 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. REBORN is Hudson’s story and his eyes are yellow.

Hudson’s life was over. He had lived over 1200 years and he was in so much pain. The only woman he had ever loved never felt the same about him, and the fact that she was killed by the Colonists, has never stopped the pain he has felt since her rejection. With his family back on SR44 dead and his ‘delinquent’ brother presumably MIA or dead, there was no one left for him to worry. Now that his daughter Abby was happily mated to his ‘warrior brother’ Noah, Hudson is determined to end his life. Booking a room at The Four Seasons Hotel, Hudson ate his last meal, found a woman for the night and saw the most beautiful pair of green eyes staring at him through the mirror in the bar. Oh well, this was his last night on Earth and no one was going to interrupt his plans. Well maybe the Colonist who had tied his body to a chair and was currently torturing and slicing up his body with a blade. But when blackness over took, the last thing he remembered were the beautiful green eyes of a woman he never had the chance to meet.

Dr. Beverly Devlone had spent the last few weeks in rehab. Following the suicide of her mother and the car accident that all but destroyed her pelvis, Beverly’s life had sunk to a new low when she was caught stealing prescription pain killers from the hospital pharmacy where she worked. With her career in ruins, Beverly checked herself into detox and waited for the day she could drive across country and forget about everything that had happened. Checking into The Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly would catch the eye of a beautiful stranger, only to find herself the next morning, following the orders of a group of strangers trying to save the life of their friend-the man she had seen the night before in the bar. He had been brutally tortured and the blood loss was great, and Beverly was the only available ‘physician’ at the time. Blindfolded and scared, she was escorted to a waiting vehicle where in the next few hours her life was about to change.

The warriors were royally pissed. No one was to bring home a human-regardless whether she saved Hudson’s life or not. Believing their lives were now compromised, it would take a wounded Hudson to stand up and protect Beverly from the others he has always called friends. But with the Colonists on the move, Beverly would become a liability, especially now that she knew where they lived. And Hudson was in denial about his feelings for Beverly, as he claimed to hold on to the memories from his past. He was unable to move on from the rejection of the woman he once thought he could call mate.

As Hudson’s strength and health returned, Beverly knew her time with the group of friends was drawing to an end. But seeing the glowing yellow eyes of the man she was beginning to love, she knew that these people were not quite human. When their stories were finally revealed, it took everything in Beverly not to run for the hills, and like these Six Savior Warriors, Beverly had some secrets of her own. But it wasn’t until the day that the Colonist showed up to finish the job he started on Hudson, did Beverly know the true meaning of fear. The man she was starting to love, wasn’t the man who she saw killing the stranger outside. But the identity of the Colonist would shock everyone including Hudson knowing he once thought the stranger was dead.

Leaving Hudson was one of the most difficult decisions Beverly ever chose. With the help of Abby and Faith, Beverly would take advantage of the Colonists death, and head out to try and start a new life on her own. But a few weeks later, Beverly knew she had made a mistake and knew she had to return to Hudson, if only for the support of what lay ahead for their future-together or alone.

REBORN is another wonderful storyline in Carly Fall’s Six Savior series. Hudson is a man lost in a world of self-doubt and pain, and it will take the love of a beautiful woman with some demons of her own, to bring him back to life. Hudson’s denial of the possibility of ever loving again, bleeds a self-fulfilling prophecy, when he doesn’t allow himself the freedom to find happiness.

Carly includes some of the background information from the previous storylines, which is always a benefit to new readers. I like the fact the warriors all live together which allows for plenty of interaction between all of the character from the previous storylines and future novels. There was not as much action in this particular story, as the novel dealt with two people fighting their own inner demons. Another HEA for a Savior Warrior from the planet SR44.

GUEST POST by author CARLY FALL

The hard to write character

First, thank you Sandy for having me here today.

REBORN was definitely the hardest book for me to write in this series. Every hero has to have some inner turmoil, and with Hudson, it was tough to get it right.

In the other two books of this series, The Light Within Me and Finding My Faith, Hudson was a background character that we got a glimpse of every now and then. In those books, he was big, strong, sexy, and a total ladies man who looked like he had the world at his fingertips. He could also work it in a pair of leather pants. Based on these attributes, he quickly became everyone’s favorite.

In writing this book, my challenge was to keep that illusion in tact, but show the depth of pain this guy had been in for such a long time, and to connect that pain with his actions that had become his normal behavior in the eyes of his fellow Warriors. I had to do this without him seeming like a whiner. An assassin who whines just doesn’t work. 🙂

Many, many revision went into this book, and I hope I got Hudson’s story right. He’s a wonderful character, one that I’m not quite done with. I do believe his story will continue, and I look forward to writing it.

Carly Fall-Interview with the Author

Carly Fall-Interview with the Author

The Reading Cafe has the pleasure to interview indie author Carly Fall.

You can find Carly at : Carly Fall

Carly’s Six Savior novels are a fantastic new series. See our review (below) of her latest book:  Finding My Faith

TRC:  Hi Carly and welcome to The Reading Café. It is a pleasure to meet you.

Carly:  Thank you for having me, Sandy!

TRC:  Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Carly:  I am wife to Geoff, mother to Riddick, and a slave to the dog Nicky. We all live happily in Arizona where we enjoy the weather, the pool, the parks and hiking. I believe that chocolate and wine should have their own space on the food pyramid, and nothing in the world makes me happier than listening to my son’s laughter.

TRC:  Do you recall how and when you were first interested in writing?

Carly:  I have always been a writer. When I was little, I would make books. In high school I wrote for the yearbook, in college I wrote for the paper. My husband and I own our own business, and I have written business materials for more years than I care to think about. On the side I also wrote fiction for years, but never did anything with it until about a year ago.

TRC:  Your first novel in the Six Savior series was THE LIGHT WITHIN ME. Would
you please tell us the premise behind the SIX SAVIOR series and The Light
Within Me?

Carly:  The story started when we toured a decommissioned missile silo down in Tucson. They had a program where you could spend an enormous amount of money and stay in it overnight. I thought about how it would be to live in one. And then I thought it probably would be kind of cool if you had the money to go in and put the best of everything in it – do a lot of remodeling. And then out of nowhere, my husband and I were joking, wouldn’t it be funny if a bunch of aliens lived in a decommissioned missile silo and no one knew? And there it was.

When I started outlining and writing The Light Within Me, I knew Noah would be the guy who is loosely in charge. I wanted him to be focused on his job, but angry that he had to do it, and that it was taking so damn long. He doesn’t have much use for humans unless they can give him the information he needs. Until he meets Abby, of course.

TRC:  I find the premise for this series very interesting-a unique idea. How did you come up with the idea for planet SR44 and the beings of smoke and
color?

Carly:  Thank you for the compliment!

I hate the word alien, so thank you for using “beings!” However, that’s what my Warriors are – aliens. I wanted my aliens to come from someplace nice – almost a utopia. They are a peaceful people, they have no interest in other worlds or conquering anyone. Some residents live in the cities consist of golden colored buildings, while others live in the dense forests. It is twilight there many hours per day. The Six Saviors really don’t want to be on Earth, but they are here for a specific mission that needs to be completed.
When I think of aliens, I think of E.T., that horrible creature from the movie Alien, Alf, War of the Worlds, and that poor guy they supposedly caught down in Roswell many years ago with the big head and eyes. I wanted my aliens to be pretty in their natural forms, and the smoke and color forms came to me on an oddly cold night when we had a fire going. I was watching the flames dance and the smoke filter up the chimney, and I thought about how pretty it was…and there were my aliens.

TRC:  FINDING MY FAITH is the second novel in the Six Savior series. Would you
please tell us something about the premise for this book?

Carly:  At then end of The Light Within Me, Rayner plays a pretty significant roll, so I knew the next story would be about him. As I thought about his character, I wanted him to find someone on Earth who was very similar to him, like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle coming together. Based on his life on SR44, I knew that I wanted the woman to be Native American. With her being Native American, I wanted to include the rich heritage of Native American legends.

Rayner is an all work and no play guy, worse than Noah ever was. Rayner is a Forest Dweller on SR44, and he has made a pledge to his mother that he would indeed return home one day. He also greatly misses the carefree life of his forest, the person he was when he lived on SR44. Rayner has a special ability that he considers a curse – he can see spirits trapped between life and death. He can’t do anything for them, so he ignores them.
Faith is a carefree life explorer who moved to the big city to get out from under her father’s thumb. In the city, she gets kidnapped and almost dies. When Rayner sees her, he ignores her until he realizes that she may very well be an important stepping stone to completing his mission, so he’s forced to engage her.

TRC:  So far Noah and Rayner have found their mates. Do you plan on writing a
storyline for each Savior/Warrior? How many books have you planned for
this series?

Carly:  I do have a book planned for each Warrior. So far, there are six.

TRC:  Your series and the individual book TITLES have a ‘religious’ connotation,
yet the books are sci-fi/fantasy, and definitely NOT religious in any
aspect. (Light-referencing the internal color/light of the being: Faith
–the name of the heroine). Do you think the book titles could be confusing
to some readers?

Carly:  You know, that was completely unintentional, and I didn’t even realize it until I was talking to my dad a couple of weeks ago. He asked what the name of the new book was and I told him it was Finding My Faith. He was the one who pointed out to me that they had religious connotations, and frankly I was shocked. I could definitely see how that could be confusing to a reader, but hopefully the pictures of half naked men on the covers dispel any confusion quickly! 🙂

TRC:  What are you currently writing?

Carly:  I’m writing book three of the Six Savior Series, which will be about Hudson. Oddly enough, while tossing around titles, the word “demon” keeps popping up for me, so that religious theme may continue!

TRC:  Many writers bounce ideas between spouses, other writers or friends. Who
or what inspires you to write?

Carly: Would it be too weird if I said the voices in my head?? LOL!! I swear I’m not crazy, well I hope not, but I’ve got six alpha males all talking to me at once in my head. If I didn’t write them, I’d probably go insane. Every now and then I’ll turn to a fellow author or a friend and say, “What do you think about this?” It’s always nice to get feedback from the people who don’t hear the voices!!

LIGHTNING ROUND

Favorite Food – garlic mashed potatoes and a Filet Mignon. Or chocolate.

Favorite Dessert – anything chocolate

Favorite Movie – I’ll like just about anything as long as Tom Cruise isn’t in it

Favorite TV Show – Fringe

Last Movie You Saw – The Hunger Games

Last Book that you Read – Pulled by A.L. Jackson

Pink or Red Roses – I’m not trying to be difficult, but I gotta go with yellow 🙂

Milk or Dark Chocolate – Milk

TRC:  Carly, we would like to thank you very much for taking the time to answer
our questions. We wish you the best of luck with your writing career, and
look forward to the next storyline in your Six Savior series.

FINDING MY FAITH by Carly Fall -a review

FINDING MY FAITH (The Six Savior Series) by Carly Fall

FINDING MY FAITH (Six Saviors #2) by Carly Fall

FINDING MY FAITH is the second instalment and January 2012 release in Carly Fall’s Six Savior series. I have not had the chance to read the intro novel-The Light Within Me, and I was worried that perhaps the premise would be lost, without the background information, but Carly Fall included much of the series premise throughout the storyline, which in my opinion, is great. I love an author that is able to blend the series premise into each story so that a new reader is not lost. The series is paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi.

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth 211 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. Rayner’s color is red.

Rayner Johnson is a warrior with a special gift. Unlike Hudson or Noah who had gifts that were welcome and useful, Rayner believed his gift was useless-with the ability to see spirits caught in the ‘ether’-the regions between life and death. But when Rayner, Hudson and Cohen are assigned to a case of 5 missing women, Rayner is stunned when he recognizes one of the missing females. Her spirit had inadvertently crossed paths earlier in the day with Rayner. And she was beautiful.

Faith Cloudfoot moved to Phoenix Arizona to start a life without the scrutiny of her overprotective parents. She was a restless child always on adventures and treks of discovery, and as a young woman she could no longer sit still and headed to the big city. With her long red hair, Faith was revered in the community of Native American Navajo. According to legend “The Woman With Fire for Hair” would join with “The Red Eyed Wolf Warrior’ and their son would heal the earth. Faith’s sense of unease increased daily-it felt like someone was watching and following her. But when she woke up in a cell with 4 other women, she knew that what she was sensing was real. Unable to recall what had happened, Faith realized that her now drug-induced spiral would only get worse, when her spirit separated from her body. With her corporeal body hovering close to death, Faith was desperate to make contact with the only person who could see her spirit.

Faith had no idea why she and the other women had been abducted, but the only person who had the ability to ‘see and talk’ with her was a tall, gorgeous warrior-like man. With his ability to communicate with Faith, Rayner soon recognized that her kidnapping was not just a part of a series of abductions, but one that was connected with the Colonists that the warriors were commissioned to hunt. Using the information gathered from Faith, Rayner and the others located the abandoned and hidden entrance to an underground cell, where the only woman still breathing was Faith. The common link between the 5 women-all the missing females had red hair.

The relationship between Faith and Rayner had its humorous moments when it appeared Rayner was constantly talking to himself, while communicating with Faith’s spirit. The couple worked well together as Faith’s spirit directed Rayner in the search for her body and talking with her parents about her abduction. But when Faith’s spirit and body were finally re-blended, Rayner’s demeanor was cold and aloof. But the smoke beings of planet SR44 had been taught that to fall in love while making love to a human woman would cease their immortal existence and they would begin to age as a human. But Rayner was not the first savior warrior to fall in love with a human woman, but he also knew that Noah’s mate was not entirely human. But falling in love is more difficult knowing that Faith’s feelings for Rayner are just as strong. And the Navajo legend of the Woman with Fire for Hair and The Red Eye Wolf Warrior would never come into fruition because of Raynor’s need to return home to planet SR 44. But it is Faith’s ability to ‘detect’ the possibility of the Colonists that was of interest to the Warrior’s from planet SR44.

Returning Faith to her parent’s care, Raynor soon realizes he has made a bigger mistake than just breaking her heart- he has put the Cloudfoot family in danger from the Colonists. But it is too late for the family when Faith is once again missing and her parents are no longer on this plane of existence. But his need for Faith overwhelms his desire to remain immortal, and Raynor goes on a search and rescue for the human female who would one day be his mate.

Finding My Faith and the Six Saviors series has an interesting premise. Blending sci-fi with fantasy allows for a broader audience in several different genres. The interesting use of the hereditary smoke and eye color added freshness to the story telling genre, that is always welcome to a voracious reader, such as myself. I am looking forward (or backward) to reading her first book in the series-The Light Within Me. I have no problem recommending this series. Six Saviors Series by Carly Fall.
