Description:
The Beladors are back in WITCHLOCK, Book 6 of the bestselling urban fantasy series by New York Times bestseller Dianna Love.

Witchlock vanished in the 13th century… or did it?
Some win. Some lose. And some will never be the same again.

After finally earning her place among the Beladors, Evalle is navigating the ups and downs of her new life with Storm when she’s sucked into a power play between her Belador tribe and the Medb coven. Both groups claim possession of the Alterants-turned-gryphons, especially Evalle, the gryphon leader. But an influx of demons and dark witches into Atlanta threatens to unleash war between covens, pitting allies against each other as a legendary majik known as Witchlock invades the city and attacks powerful beings. Evalle has one hope for stopping the invasion, but the cost may be her sanity and having to choose which friend to save.

Review:
Witchlock by Dianna Love is the 6th book in her wonderful urban fantasy Beladors series. Those of you who have read my reviews know that I am a big fan of this series, and it’s heroine Evalle. Dianna Love, who is a master at writing romance suspense thrillers, once again gives us another sensational new story, with most of our favorites, Evalle, Storm, Tzader, Quinn and my wonderful Feenix. Thank you, Dianna for giving me more of Feenix. 🙂

In Witchlock, one of our regulars, Adrianna, steps up to the plate playing a major part of this story, and escalates herself to be one of Evalle’s group, and an ultra powerful ally. I really loved Adrianna in this book. Make no mistake though, as much as we love the secondary characters, the Beladors series belongs to one of the best kick-ass heroines, Evalle. I have always loved Evalle from the start of this series, and she just continues to get better, especially now that she has the love of her life, Storm.

Evalle is tough, powerful, loyal and totally independent, not to mention always having to prove herself to the gods.  Because she will never cease to fight for her friends, and responsibilities, her relationship with Storm becomes strained at times, due to his wanting to always protect her and keep her from harm, which does not sit well with Evalle. It was fun to watch them try to solve this issue, while all hell was breaking loose around them.

Witchlock continues with both the Beladors (Macha is their goddess), and the Medb coven (lead by the recently revived goddess, Maeve) fighting for control of the Alterants, who are lead by Evalle. The Alterants currently are part of Belador, but Medb wants them, as well as Evalle. While this fight goes on, with Evalle in the middle, the crux of this story belongs to a powerful witch, who has been secretly absorbing powers from other powerful witches. Many many years ago, Witchlock, the ultimate power, disappeared, as the witch who had that power died. That witches coven has been grooming a young witch, Veronika since she was a child, to be able to take on this power and become the most powerful of them all.

Since I do not want to give any spoilers, what follows is an exciting pulse pounding thriller that has Evalle working with Adrianna and others to stop this witch or everyone will die. At every turn, it begins to look hopeless, as Veronika is already an unstoppable force. The last half of the book was a nail biter, which had me unable to put this book down until I reached the end.

If you have not started this series, and enjoy urban fantasy, a fantastic heroine, fun exciting stories, a beautiful romance that keeps building, great secondary characters….then I ask you, why have you not started the Beladors series? I love Dianna Love’s writing, her wonderful imagination, and her ability to grab us from the start of each book she writes, and keeps us there until the end… Everytime. Witchlock was a wonderful exciting and fun read, and Dianna once again justifies why her last name ends with Love 🙂 .   Please give yourself the enjoyment of reading this series.

Interview-RED

Hi Dianna. Thank you for taking the time to visit us again at The Reading Cafe, and to give us an update on your new release, Witchlock as well as what else you may have upcoming in 2015 or early 2016.

Dianna:  I’m thrilled to be back at The Reading Café. I love this site and all the great books and interviews you share with readers!

TRC: On July 7th, you will be releasing Witchlock, which is the 6th book of your wonderful Belador series. Can you please tell us the premise of this series, for those who may not have read it?

Dianna:  Beladors are descendants of an ancient race of Celtic warriors, and are governed by the goddess Macha. Beladors look human, so present-day Beladors live among humans all over the world. Many of them are part of VIPER, a coalition of powerful beings who protect the world from supernatural predators. The series is primarily set in Atlanta, Georgia.

TRC:  Witchlock is your next book in the Belador series, which is expected to be released on July 7th. Can you give us a brief description of this book?

Dianna:

TRC:  How many books are you planning for your Beladors series? Hopefully many many more.

Dianna:  LOL, yes, I do plan many more and thank you for reading them. 🙂 I can’t give you an exact number, but we’re in the early stages of the series arcs. We had one major arc complete at the end of RISE OF THE GRYPHON and the next one has already begun, with big things in store for the main characters. I don’t believe in continuing to put books out when it’s clear the series should have wrapped up so I’ll just say that when it’s time, I’ll let everyone know. 🙂

TRC:  What is it like to have created, and continue to write such a fantastic heroine in Evalle? How hard is it to keep Evalle being as great as she is?

Dianna:  I just love Evalle. She has come from the most horrific background and was treated as an outcast among her own people for so long that it’s such a joy to watch how she evolves, which is one of the things that makes me want to write these stories. I’m flattered at the response to this character. As for continuing to develop her – she’s got a lot of things yet to learn about herself and the world, so it’s like opening up a new petal on a flower every time I work on her. Writing is hard, but not nearly as difficult when it’s a character who constantly tugs on my heartstrings. Plus, she’s with Storm, so I also get plenty of Storm time. ;0)

TRC:  What’s coming next for your Slye Temp series?

Dianna:  Speaking of ending a series – the last official Slye Temp novel, FATAL PROMISE, will be released summer 2016. That one is Sabrina and Gage’s story. It will conclude the major Czarion arc that has connected the entire series. But … the HAMR Brotherhood romantic suspense series will launch and include characters from Slye Temp. Those who read KISS THE ENEMY met Marguax, Logan and Logan’s HAMR Brotherhood team.

Logan and Margaux were on stage again, helping Tanner during DECEPTIVE TREASURES, and they’ll be around during the last Slye Temp book, too, then you’ll see more of them and the other Slye Temp characters as the HAMR Brotherhood books take off..

TRC:  I cannot wait for Sabrina’s story. I so look forward to this.  I am also thrilled about your new series featuring Logan’s team. I loved their story.

TRC:  What are you currently working on now? Also, would you like to share with us what you may have upcoming in 2015 or early 2016.

Dianna:  I am so excited to share that Tristan (character in the Belador series) will have a novella this winter (his story is just starting to unfold so we’ll see more of him in the upcoming stories, too), because I couldn’t fit him into WITCHLOCK without distracting from the main story that had to be told. The next full-length Belador novel, ROGUE BELADOR, will be out April 2016, and I’ve got other books brewing, but I want to be sure of the schedule before I share all that.

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

Dianna:  I have so many surprises in WITCHLOCK. I’m as anxious to get that book to readers as–they keep telling me–they are to receive it. I really appreciate the huge support readers have given this series, which keeps me excited to spend more time in the cave on new novels.

TRC:  I absolutely loved Adrianna in this book.

TRC:  Thank you, Dianna for giving us an update on what we can look forward to in 2015/2016, and we wish you the best with Witchlock

Dianna:  Thank YOU, Barb for sharing so much with readers and supporting authors every day.

Vision in Silver Banner

Vision in SilverAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
The Others freed the cassandra sangue to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him.

Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict.

For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

 Review:

Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop is the 3rd book in her wonderful The Others fantasy series. As most of you already know, I am a huge fan of Anne Bishop, having read all of her books, and loving them all. When I started reading The Others with the first book, Written in Red, I had thought this was a different type of story and I immediately fell in love with this series. There is no question in my mind, whatever she writes, Bishop is such a master storyteller as she brilliantly continues this wonderful world building in Vision in Silver.

To give you a brief refresher, The Others is a story about the terra indigene (non humans, such as wolves, crows, vampires, elementals, grizzlies, etc) who control most of the world, and the humans, both good and bad who live in lands that the Others allow them to live on. Meg is our heroine of this series, as now in the 3rd book, she is fully a member of the terra indigene, even if she is human. Meg is a blood prophet ( cassandra sangue) who is very valuable, as when she cuts herself, she sees the future. The Others have come to care very much for “our Meg”, and will go to all lengths to protect her from the evil that wants to use the blood prophets to their own gain. In the last book, Murder of Crows, most of the young blood prophets were rescued and send to different areas to gradually get them used to living in freedom. But this is not an easy process, as they are all mentally challenged to see the world as it is, having been shut down all their lives, with just offering up prophecy that is asked of them.

In Vision in Silver this is escalated, as there is a huge threat that will not only threaten the lives of the blood prophets, but also the Others. A group called Humans First and Last (HFL), has been inciting humans with lies, and using force for them to stop serving the Others, or they will put them out of business if they don’t comply. They also want the blood prophets for themselves, blaming things that go wrong on the terra indigene, thereby turning humans against them.

Simon, the leader of the lakeside pack, is determined to help the blood prophets with Meg’s help, as she is a trailblazer, who will teach them how to survive in the open world. The human police force that we have come to know from previous books have worked closely with Simon, and the rest of the pack to stop the violence. The humans labeled as wolf lovers (those helping Meg, Simon and the others), must leave town and move to the courtyard run by the terra indigene.

What follows is an exciting storyline from start to finish, which finds Meg trying to control her own compulsions to cut herself, and learning how to control it to be able to help her fellow Cassandra sanguine. Lt. Mongomery plays a big part, as his little girl surprisingly arrives to the Courtyard with hidden secrets that will eventually reveal the real villains behind this plot to hurt the Others. But most of all, it is Simon, and his entire pack that must face the evil threats, and rise up to fight them, which will put Simon’s life in danger. It is Meg, whose prophecy will help them all.

In between, all this intense action, is the continued sweet relationship that slowly grows between Simon and Meg. Simon is the alpha wolf, the leader of the pack of non-humans, but it is Meg, the sweet girl, who has won all their hearts, as she opens the door for the Others to learn to live with humans. There is no relationship between Meg and Simon…not yet. But it is so beautifully done, how much they each care about each other, as each passing day goes on.

Anna Bishop continues to wow me with her fabulous world building, and storytelling that is flawless with each book. Bishop has also created some of the best characters in this fantastic world, such as Simon, Meg, Sam, Nathan, Tess, Vlad, Henry, Merri, Monty and even little Skippy. Make no mistake, this is not a romance, but a fascinating, fun, tense and exciting story, in a complex world. I loved every moment of Vision in Silver, and have grown to love so many of the non-human characters that make up The Others. Bravo, Anne Bishop, you never cease to amaze me. If you have not started this series, it is time to do so. A great series that is not to be missed.

Interview

Anne Bishop photo

Hi, Anne. We are excited to have you back with us again at The Reading Cafe,to discuss your new release “Vision In Sliver”, as well as to give us an update as to what else you may be working on.

TRC: You have just released your 3rd book in The Others series. For those of our members who have not read this series, can you give us a description of the premise of The Others?

Anne: The Others novels take place on an alternate Earth where the earth natives, the supernatural beings known as the Others, have always been the dominant predators, evolving with the world. Humans, while inventive and clever, are nowhere near the top of the food chain and have to deal with the Others for all the natural resources they need. The appearance of Meg Corbyn, a blood prophet who has run away from her controller, adds to the ever-present tension between species in the city of Lakeside. Meg’s presence is the pebble that starts the avalanche of changes in Lakeside, and the question, more and more, becomes who is going to survive those changes.

Murder of the crowsTRC:   Congratulations on Murder of the Crows being nominated for the 2014 RT (Romantic Times) Reviewer’s Choice Award in the Urban Fantasy Worldbuilding category. It must be gratifying to receive another nomination for this wonderful series?

Anne: I’m thrilled to receive another nomination for a Reviewer’s Choice Award. It’s especially flattering that it is for the worldbuilding category because this world, being not-quite-Earth, requires selecting the right blend of details to make the impossible things seem perfectly reasonable.

Vision in SilverTRC:  Vision in Silver is being released today. Can you please give us a brief description of the book?

Anne: The Others freed the blood prophets to protect the girls from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences for many of the girls–and would also open a door to freedom for another young prophet. While Meg Corbyn and Simon Wolfgard search for a way to help more of these girls survive, Lieutenant Montgomery has to unravel the mystery of why his young daughter has arrived in Lakeside alone. And all their lives, and the future of Lakeside, are threatened by a fanatic faction of humans who have a connection to the growing war across the Atlantik.

TRC:  When we last talked to you on how many books you were planning on this series, you were still in discussion on this.   Have you decided how many books you will be doing in the series? I hope a lot, as I do not want to leave the world of The Others.

Anne:  I know there will be five. After that, it will depend on whether or not the characters have more to say.

TRC:  What challenges or difficulties do you encounter writing this series?

Anne:  The fun of the series is writing from the point of view of characters who are not remotely human in the way they think and feel and act. The challenges are making decisions about details–like what kind of service weapon does Monty use versus Burke, and how much do I need to know about bison–so that there are enough details for the story to feel real without bogging it down. And there is geography and figuring out who is living where and how that would convert (approximately) to an actual map because we have another location in Vision in Silver.

TRC:  When not writing, what do you do to relax?

Anne:  In the winter, I watch movies, listen to music, do yoga, indulge in recreational reading. In warmer months, I spend a lot of time in the garden. Gardens are instant gratification–you spend thirty minutes weeding and you can see the results.

TRC:  Would you like to share with us what you are currently working on, and what you may have upcoming in 2015/2016?

Anne:  I just turned in Book 4 in the series and will start working on Book 5 very soon. That will take me through March 2016.

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

Anne:  I’d like to thank all the readers who have joined me on this adventure. I’m having a lot of fun writing these stories, and I hope you’re having just as much fun reading them.

Thank you, Anne for giving us an update on Vision in Silver, as well as what we can look forward to in the future.   It was a pleasure having you visit us again.

All For You by Christi Barth – Review, Interview and Giveaway

All For You by Christi Barth – Review, Interview and Giveaway

All For You Banner

All for YouAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Small-town park ranger Casey Hobbes has spent her life under the radar, carefully guarding a secret. “The forest flirt,” as her best friend calls her, keeps things casual with men. That way she’ll never care enough to be tempted to share the truth about her past. But when she spots a half-naked stranger on the lake’s edge, Casey can’t resist his muscles or his charm and she’s all-in for enjoying both, while keeping emotion out of it. What could be the danger of one summer fling?

Professor Zane Buchanan has built his entire career on exposing the dark realities of cults, but one—the Sunshine Seekers—remains infuriatingly impossible to crack. Zane’s shocked to discover its sole anonymous survivor is hiding in his new hometown. It’s nearly impossible to concentrate on work, however, when he’s derailed by his attraction to the beautiful blonde in khaki uniform shorts.

As things between Casey and Zane heat up, she struggles with keeping her past from him. And Zane’s on a quest to expose the truth, no matter the consequences. Will their growing emotions finally unseal Casey’s big secret? Or will she turn her back on love to keep the past safely buried?

Review:

All for You by Christi Barth is the 2nd book in her Shore Secrets series. In the first book of this series, we met Ella and Gray and their friends in this small town sweet romance. All for You begins with one Ella’s friends, Casey, who is a park ranger, as she notices a man come out of the freezing ocean after hours. Going to his rescue, she meets our hero, Zane, who has just arrived in town to start a class at the local college.

The attraction between Casey and Zane is immediate, but Barth does a wonderful job of taking this romance slow, with Zane determined to gradually win over Casey, without rushing the sex. Zane is not only a professor, he is also a successful author, who is obsessed with writing about cults. There is one cult, The Sunshine Seekers, who came to a dramatic end, that he has not been able to bring to a final conclusion. Zane feels he is close to finding the truth right here in this small town, and is determined to find the truth, so he can write the story he has dreamed of all these years. Who is the Lone Survivor of The Sunshine Seekers?

Casey’s friends, whom we met in the first book, play a big part in this story. Besides Ella, Gray, we get to spend more time with Dawn, Ward, Piper, Joel, in this wonderful lighthearted romance, that has a little mystery. Casey and Zane begin to realize that they are falling in love with one another, and they made such a hot and sweet couple. Will there be a future for them?

Without giving spoilers, we learn early on that Casey, Dawn and the town have their own hidden secrets that they will protect, which will put Zane fully in the middle. Secrets will be revealed, relationships put at risk, as we worry if love will prevail during this crisis.

As I have said before, Christi Barth always writes wonderful sweet lighthearted romances, with wonderful couples, and great fun friendships. All for You was an enjoyable, charming, and fast fun relaxing read. I recommend you to read this wonderful series.

Interview

Hi, Christi. Thank you for taking the time to revisit us at The Reading Cafe, to discuss your new release “All For You”, as well as to give us an update as to what you have in store for us in 2015.

Christi:  Oh, I’m always happy to stop by and chat! Talking about books is one of my favorite things to do.

TRC: It has been awhile when we last interviewed you, for anyone who does not know Christi Barth, would you please tell us something about yourself?

Christi: I write sassy, funny contemporary romances. You’d better appreciate some good banter and bromance if you read my books!

TRC: You have just released the 2nd book in your Shore Secrets trilogy. For those who may not have read this series, would you please give us a brief description of Shore Secrets?

Christi: I love the opportunity to share my series disclaimer: this whole series is based on real life. The premise is of a mailbox on a lakeshore where everyone in town anonymously writes their questions and problems – and people respond with their advice. As crazypants as it sounds, the idea came to me after hearing a radio story about a town in North Carolina that actually does this. Wild, huh? So yes, each book contains secrets the hero and heroine keep from each other…but the whole rest of the town finds out.

All for YouTRC: With the release today of All For You, can you please give us a brief description of this 2nd book in the series?

Christi: There’s a park ranger who has been hiding – in plain sight – from the nation for over a decade. Casey wants a summer fling with the hot new college professor. Except…he’s more than just a professor. Zane’s a world famous cult expert who has been searching for the last survivor of the Sunshine Seekers for his entire career. Can she risk revealing her secret for love? Would Zane choose another guaranteed book and film deal if he learns her true identity – or her heart?
TRC: The 3rd book in this series, Back to Us is anticipated to be June release. Can you please tell us briefly about the last book in the Shore Secrets Trilogy?
Christi: The fun part has been dropping hints about Ward and Piper throughout the first two books. They were best friends, then high school sweethearts until an ugly breakup. Still best friends, neither realizes they both still are madly in love with each other. And when Ward refuses to sell Piper his land unless she dates him for a month, an uncompromising winemaker learns that some bargains are worth making for a second chance at love.
TRC: If you could cast the leading characters, who would you envision to play the leading roles in your Shore Secrets series?
Christi: Ooh – an excuse to send you to my Pinterest page! I’ve got a board for every book, chock full of outfits and settings and yes, hot guys. So Up To Me stars Jessica Biel & Ian Somerholder; All For You is Amy Smart & Nathan Fillion, and I just finished writing Back To Us, which meant months of staring at the HOT Joe Mangianello & Amy Adams.

TRC: Wow I need to look at your Pinterest page….Ian, Nathan and Joe..those are some hot guys. 🙂

Never too Late
TRC:
You recently released a novella, Never Too Late. Can you please give us a brief description, and is this a standalone book or is it part of a new series?

Christi: This is part of Harlequin’s More Than Words philanthropy project. They highlight three charities, give them money, and publish a story loosely based on each one. Mine is a sweet love story about two career-focused architects who are forced to work on birthday parties for homeless children.

TRC: Will there be more books for your wonderful Aisle Bound series, or was A Matchless Romance the last book in this series?

Aisle Bound Box Set

Christi: Awww, I’m so glad you liked it! But I’m afraid I did marry off everyone possible in that series, so it did indeed conclude with the fourth book. But it is practically wedding season, so let’s remind everyone who hasn’t read it yet to go grab all the romance drenched books – it is even in a convenient box set!

TRC: Would you like to share with us what you are currently working on, and what you have in store for us in 2015?

Christi: So many exciting things! Book 3 of Shore Secrets, Back To Us, comes out in July. Then in the fall I’m releasing The Opposite of Right, the first novella in my Bad Decisions series about hot rockers. 2015 kicks off with the release of Book One in my just-sold Naked Men series (title still to be tweaked, but currently Risking It All). It centers around five men who survived a high school tragedy, how it made them into the men they are today, and of course, the women who complete them.

TRC: When not writing, what do you do to relax?

Christi: I’m a TVaholic, so I catch up on all the shows I missed while churning out the words. I adore cooking and throwing dinner parties (probably because my husband does all the clean up), and I read non-stop.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Christi: Don’t let the potentially serious topic of cults scare you away – All For You is chock full of laughs (it’s the only way I know how to write!), super sexy scenes, and romance that will make you sigh blissfully.

Thank you, Christi for giving us an update on All for You, as well as what we can look forward to in the future. It was a pleasure talking with you again. We wish you good luck with All For You.

Description:
Twenty ships have left the gravitational field of the Earth with the intention of colonizing Mars. Each is independent of the other and set to become domed cities upon landing. The mission is simple: go forth to develop the new planet, make it an extension of our home. Well, it sounded simple.

No one expected life on Mars to be easy, they are pioneers and that is a type of life that comes with dangers. What they didn’t expect was for the settings of one of the ships to be off enough to miss their landing, to miss the very planet they were meant to settle.

Even more astounding was to find another planet within a three-week travel period that lies in the shadow of the red planet. It is where they will land, where their ship will unfold to become a domed city. Where life is dangerous in a hostile land and they find unexpected help. The indigenous winged people of the planet don’t live on the surface of the planet, they live in cities in the clouds, but they are willing to extend a welcoming hand to those who have come to their land, as well as teach them what they can to survive. Their relationship begins with three words.

“Welcome to Tantalus.”

Review:

First Contact by M.A. Abraham is the 1st book in her new Tantalus series. This is a Sci-Fi story that has space traveling, romance, mystery, new planet, new species, and interesting world-building. The premise of this story is to introduce us to the two species that will come together by the end, leading the way to a world that will co-exist between humans and Tantalarians, who look human, but they have wings.

But to get there is what First Contact is all about. We meet the humans on a huge space ship with 50,000 people traveling to Mars, where they will live. A few ships have already landed on Mars, working hard to make it livable for humans. Immediately, we learn that the ship has gone off course, with the Captain and his team unable to fix the issue, which means they will miss their landing to Mars. Surprisingly, they see an unknown planet only weeks away, where they will be able to land. The Captain also learns that one of his lieutenants has some physic ability, and was the one whom the planet contacted to let her know they will help them reach their planet. We learn early on that there are a few others, who are also physic. Cara, and her children have tried to hide their physic ability, because they fear for their lives. It seems there are a group of hostiles that have secretly killed those that are physic, as they feel they are witches. Yes, it does have the similarity to Salem. The captain becomes involved in the mystery to find out who is the leader of the group determined to stop the ship from reaching the new planet.

While this is going on with the humans on the ship, there is also another main storyline of the people of Tantalus. Our heroes here are Karia and Mitchel, who are destined to be mates, thereby changing the rules in Tantalus that was led astray many years ago by corrupt men, who wanted to rule the women. With the help of her mother, and the other Phoenix from the past, Karia will be the strongest women, who will bring back the old glory. It is Karia who was able to warn the ship and help guide them to Tantalus. The main story here is the revolution to stop the corrupt rulers, and the hot romance between Karia and Mitchel.

There is a lot of action, romance, and steamy sex going on in both stories. Telling too much more would be spoilers, but each storyline was very well done.

M.A. Abraham has given us another wonderful imaginative new series. First Contact gives us a new race, The Tantalarians and an exciting adventure that will keep us hooked until the very end. This is a different and exciting story, with some wonderful characters. Abraham has built this world that has us looking forward to see what happens next, as they begin to work together. I can’t wait for the next book, Integration.

Interview beige 2

Welcome back, M.A. Thank you for taking the time to visit us again at The Reading Cafe, and to give us an update on your new releases, as well as what else you may have upcoming in 2015.

M. A.: Thank you for the invitation, it is always a pleasure to come here.

TRC: You have a new series that will debut tomorrow, Tantalus. This is a different genre than you have written before…..SciFi/Romance. What can you tell us about this new series, and how did you came up with the idea?

First ContactM. A.: The Tantalus Series is a look at mankind’s efforts to reach out into space, to find a new start. They are bringing the good traits, as well as the bad ones of our people along with them. As they travel they find there is life on other planets, although it isn’t expected. They are not as prepared to put their best foot forward as people on Earth think we would, but that is all right, because neither are the Aliens encountered. It shows that for all our faults, we are not alone with our actions; people the Universe over are much the same. The Tantalarians are not perfect either. ‘First Contact’ is only the beginning.

The idea for Tantalus was formed many years ago, when I had an Astronomy fetish. I have always been interested in the worlds beyond our own and the sciences that are connected with the study of them. I used to fantasize about life on other planets, and searched out all the information I could find to feed that curiosity. I believed, and still do, that we are not the only people in the Universe, life is too diverse for such small expectations. There was a time when my dream was to work in a planetarium, but life had other plans for me.

TRC:   Can you please give us a brief synopsis of Tantalus, and how many books are you planning for this series?

M. A.: Twenty ships have left the gravitational field of the Earth with the intention of colonizing Mars.

At this point I am looking at 4 books, however, I never expected the Elven Chronicles to go on as long as it has, will. With that in mind, anything is possible.

TRC:   What challenges or difficulties (research, logistics, etc) did you encounter writing this story and series?

M. A.: This world would have been a lot more difficult to write if I wouldn’t have had such a diverse education. I still read and watch anything I can about space, I find it fascinating, not only the concept, but also the mathematics that goes with it. (Yes, I can be a geek about the subject, when I get in the mood.)

TRC:   How many books do you still anticipate for The Elven Chronicles?

M. A.:  At this time I can say for sure that there are 7 or 8 titles left for me to publish in the Elven Chronicles, starting with ‘For The King and Elven Empire’ (Novel) in June. That will be followed by my Christmas release, “Surrounded by the Light’ (Novella) (which I haven’t written yet). ‘Tratchars’ (Novel) will follow, with ‘Eärwen’s Song’ (Novel), and 3 others after. They are all in my mind, just not the last 3 titles, or the length of the last 3. I believe by then everyone will be happy to see the end of that series. Some say they are not happy to see those words, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

TRC:   What are you currently working on now? Also, would you like to share with us what you may have upcoming in 2015/2016.

M. A.:  I am currently working to finish off the manuscript for ‘Integration’, and by the time anyone reads this, I should be over 3/4 finished. I have already begun ‘Surrounded by the light’, ‘Tratchars’, and ‘Eärwen’s Song’.

In 2015 I am releasing ‘For the King and Elven Empire’, ‘Integration’ and ‘Surrounded by the Light’. In 2016 I will release ‘Tratchars’, ‘Hunter’s Challenge’, ‘Forbidden Contact’, and a couple EC Novellas still to be named. In 2017 I will release ‘Eärwen’s Song’, not sure about after yet.

TRC:   When not writing, what do you like to do to relax?

M. A.: I am an avid reader, when my mind isn’t so full of characters blurting out their stories that I can’t think about anything else. I like to visit the mountains and I work for a small company. There is always something to do to keep my mind occupied. I am not someone who can sit still for long, I need a project.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

M.A.: Nothing I should talk about, there are rumors of another series and some stand alones flying about. Shhh…

TRC: LOL   Such a tease 

TRC:   Thank you, M.A. for giving us an update on what we can look forward to in 2015, and beyond. We wish you the best with First Contact.

M. A.:  Congratulations on the anniversary of your site, you are all doing a wonderful job.

Obsession Blog Tour – Catching Up With Jennifer L. Armentrout

blog tour button 2

Jennifer Armentrout
The Reading Cafe is happy to welcome back Jennifer L. Armentrout. A few days ago, Jennifer released her newest novel, Obsession.  She is here to discuss Obsession, as well as what else we may have to look forward to in 2013

Before we start the interview, let’s refresh your memory about Jennifer.

About The Author Black and Purple

#1 NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true. When she’s not hard at work writing. she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russel Loki.

Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories….which explains her dismal grades in math. Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She is published with Spencer Hill Press, Entangled Teen and Brazen, Disney/Hyperion and Harlequin Teen.

She also writes adult and New Adult romance under the name J. Lynn. She is published by Entangled Brazen and HarperCollins.

Now let’s talk to Jennifer!

Interview fuscia:black

Hi Jennifer. Thank you for taking the time to revisit with us at The Reading Cafe to discuss your new release “OBSESSION”, what else you have in store for us 2013.

Obsession May 31 2013
TRC:
OBSESSION is your May 31st release, a spin off (of sorts), from your fantastic LUX series.  Will you please tell us something about the premise of OBSESSION?

Jennifer: Obsession delves into  the world from the Lux series, but the male lead, Hunter, is actually one of greatest enemies to the Luxen, an Arum.  When Hunter is forced by the Department of Defense to protect Serena, a human who knows too much, from the same aliens that he has been bred to kill, the situation gets hot and heavy in more ways than one.

TRC:  Is OBSESSION a standalone novel or will it be part of a series?

Jennifer: Obsession is a standalone novel.

TRC:  What was behind your decision to create a story about a protagonist who was on the side of the enemies from the LUX series?

Jennifer: There are always two sides to every story, so I thought it would be interesting to look at the world from the Lux series from a different point of view. Also, I thought writing an adult novel featuring an Arum instead of a Luxen would set it apart from my YA series.

TRC: ORIGIN, which is the 4th book (& one novella) in the Lux series, is expected to be released August 27th. When we last saw Katy, you left us hanging desperately. Will Katy and Daemon get back together to fight the enemy?

Jennifer: That would be too spoilery!   You will just  have to find out in Origin.

TRC:  Is ORIGIN the final book in the Lux series, if not how many books do you plan for this series?

Jennifer  There are five books in the Lux series, so there will be one more after Origin.

TRC: When the  Lux series does end, do you have plans to continue with a spin-off series?

Jennifer:  No, I don’t plan to  write a spin-off series because I think the final book will be a good stopping place for the Luxen  world.

TRC: Writing as J. Lynn you released Wait for You last September. What was your reaction to seeing your book make #1 on the NY Times list?

Jennifer:  I really couldn’t believe it.  I  don’t think I can do my reaction justice right now.  I need my Supernatural gifs to express my  emotions about hitting #1.

TRC:  BE WITH ME-the second book in the Wait for You series- is scheduled for release sometime later this year. Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Jennifer:  Be With Me  features Jase, Cam’s best friend, and Teresa, Cam’s sister.  I’m not allowed to give you any other  details yet.  But, I can tell you that Cam and Avery make some appearances throughout the book.   As a matter of fact, Cam is in the first chapter of Be With Me.

TRC: You are a very prolific writer with a number of releases scheduled for 2013. Will you please share with us on what you are currently working and what else you have in store for 2013?

Jennifer: I just finished writing Trust in Me which is Wait for You in Cam’s POV.  I’m currently writing Be With Me.  My writing schedule is tight, so I have back to back books lined up to write this year.

TRC: You write YA, New Adult, Romance, Erotic Romance; do you have a favorite genre, and why?

Jennifer: I don’t really have a favorite genre.  My favorite book is typically the book that
I’m currently working on, so I think that probably holds true for the different genres, too.

Since I’m writing New Adult at the moment, I would say that it’s my favorite genre right now.

TRC: Also, what  are the challenges of switching between genres?

Jennifer: Since my stories in each genre are so different,  it’s not as difficult as you would think to switch between them.  I just have to be mindful of the content within each genre to make sure I keep the sexiness age appropriate.

TRC:Would you like to add anything else?

Jennifer:  Just thanks for participating in the blog tour!

Thank you, Jennifer for answering our questions. We look forward to continuing to read your books, and to work with you in the future.

Catching Up With Kylie Griffin

Catching Up With Kylie Griffin

The Reading Cafe is happy to welcome back Kylie Griffin. Kylie recently released her third book in her The Light Blade series. She is here to discuss Allegiance Sworn, as well as what else we may have to look forward to in 2013

Before we start the interview, let’s refresh your memory about Kylie.

Kylie photo

Kylie Griffin’s obsession with all things paranormal/fantasy started at an early age, when she used to imagine the jacaranda tree in her front yard was a spaceship used to defend the world from invading enemies. Writing stories seemed a natural extension to her childhood adventures.

Today, she’s a primary school teacher sharing her love for the written word with young children. In her spare time, she writes and reads all things paranormal.

Kylie lives in a small rural village in outback New South Wales, Australia, where she volunteers in a number of emergency service organizations in her local community. Visit her website at www.kyliegriffin.com

Interview seafoam:blackTRC:  Hi, Kylie.  Thank you for taking the time to revisit us at The Reading Cafe to discuss your new release “Allegiance Sworn”, as well as to give us an update as to what else you may be working on.

Kylie: Hi Barb, thanks for the chance to meet your readers again. I loved visiting The Reading Cafe last time, so it’s great to be back!

TRC: You have just released the 3rd book in your Light Blade series.  For our members who may not have read this series, can you give us a description of the premise of this series?

Kylie: Without giving away any spoilers, in the Light Blade world there are three different races – the Na’Reish (demons), Na’Chi (hybrid half-breeds, and humans. The Na’Reish outnumber the humans, and the human race is under threat of enslavement. Both races loath the existence of the Na’Chi as neither can tolerate their mixed heritage.

Each story in the series so far has shown the struggle between the races to survive, and a myriad of secrets and power struggles have thrown characters together and driven others apart. All the while demons and humans have been pushed closer to war with one another.

While the series isn’t epic fantasy in its purest form, it does have similar elements. The overarching plots employ typical themes such as a quest, a guiding deity, struggles against an opposing force, the threat of world domination, revenge and redemption, but readers also get to focus on a romance between main characters.

So if readers like this sort of epic-style story with a good romance then the Light Blade series is one to try. There’s enough back sotry in ALLEGIANCE SWORN to get the gist of the series arc, and each book can be read as stand-alone romances, but I’d recommend reading them in sequence for the full impact.

allegiance sworn

TRC: Allegiance Sworn was released on April 2, 2013.  Can you please tell us briefly about the book?

Kylie: ALLEGIANCE SWORN is the third book in the Light Blade series and one I was very excited to write as it features Arek, a rather deliciously tormented (yes, I do like torturing my heroes), secondary character, and one of my Light Blade warriors, who appeared in both VENGEANCE BORN (#1) and ALLIANCE FORGED (#2).

At the end of ALLIANCE FORGED Arek was wounded and captured by demon-slavers. In ALLEGIANCE SWORN he’s claimed by Imhara, a demon Clan leader.

He’s sworn to die fighting before allowing her to enslave him but then discovers she’s been living a double-life; that her Clan don’t enslave humans and accept half-bloods. And more significantly, they have one goal in common – to kill Na’Reish leader Savyr, the demon who murdered their families and destroyed their lives.

I had a LOT of fun making Arek face his greatest fears in this book but what surprised me the most was the way a couple of plot threads within the story ended – I intended the story to finish with the characters achieving certain goals but they refused to take that path and led me down another!

Lives being threatened, fighting, the death of a major character – all of this was supposed to occur, and it did, but not in the manner I expected and it brought about an entirely different conclusion to the story.

TRC: Will there be more books for the Light Blade series, if so, how many?

Kylie: Well, at this stage there are at least three secondary characters with stories demanding to be told. For example, Rissa, a young child introduced in VENGEANCE BORN, and is a character who definitely has a story to be written but as she’s only 10y.o, she has to grow up first. LOL

So it’s lucky there are some other secondary characters clamoring for their stories to be told in the meantime. They’ll keep me busy for a while yet, and give Rissa the time to grow up.

TRC: Would you like to share with us what you are currently working on?

Kylie: What am I up to, besides a manic blog tour to promote ALLEGIANCE SWORN(and the mass market version of Vengeance Born, which was also released on April 2nd)?

Well, I have a few plans I’m juggling. I’m writing books #4 and #5 in the Light Blade series. There’s no release dates yet for them as that depends on whether the book-gods smile on a new publishing contract.

For those who’ve been following the series, books #4 & #5 are characters you’ve met earlier in the series, or will have, once you’ve read ALLEGIANCE SWORN. 🙂

I’m also keen to write a new post-apocalyptic romance, one that’s been mulling in the back my mind for a few years now. A change of genre would be refreshing and I’m quite excited about this one as I’m venturing into new territory. It’s rather more erotic in tone than I anticipated.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Kylie: Two ideas inspired ALLEGIANCE SWORN.

The first was Arek, the hero, and his hatred for all things demon. Throughout the series and of all the characters he’s probably had the toughest time. He’s found out he has a demon half sister. His grandfather not only tried to kill her but he kept the secret that demons and humans once lived harmoniously together and then betrayed the human race by leading a rebellion to keep the war between them going.

In ALLEGIANCE SWORN Arek is confronted by the truth that his whole life and every decision and action he’s made has been based on a lie, one foster by his grandfather’s deception.

And, having been captured by demon-slavers at the end of Alliance Forged, he now faces one of his greatest fears – being the blood-slave of Imhara Kaal, his new owner. Anyone who’s already read the series will know Arek prefers death over serving as a blood-slave, so you can imagine the conflict this is going to create!

The idea of a double agent gave me the plot thread for Imhara Kaal, the heroine, in ALLEGIANCE SWORN. Unlike other demons, Imhara and her people have create a utopia of sorts where human, demon, and half breeds live peacefully and equally in the Old Ways but they’ve had to sacrifice a lot to remain undiscovered. Living a double-life and adopting two separate lifestyles was essential for their survival.

But it puts Imhara and Arek at odds right from the get go because she had to portray her alter-ego in order to claim him as her slave. You can image how well that went down with Arek, and trying to convince him of her other persona is nigh impossible.

I loved being able to throw these two opposing personalities together and watching the sparks fly!

TRC: Thank you, Kylie for giving us an update on Allegiance Sworn, as well as what we can look forward to in the future.   It was a pleasure having you visit us again.

Catching Up With Thea Harrison

Catching Up With Thea Harrison

Thea Harrison pic
The Reading Cafe is thrilled to welcome back the wonderful Thea Harrison.

Thea is here to catch us up on her new release, Rising Darkness, which was released last week.  This is her first book in her new series, A Game of Shadows series.

Let’s talk to Thea.

Interview blue:blackHi, Thea.  Thank you for taking the time to revisit us at The Reading Cafe to discuss your new series, ‘A Game of Shadows’, and the first book, in that series, Rising Darkness, as well as to give us an update as to what else you may be working on.

Thea: Thank you for having me!  It’s always a pleasure to visit with you. 🙂

TRC: You have just released the 1st book in your Game of Shadows series.  Can you give us a description about the premise of this series?  How many books are you planning for this series?

Thea: The Game of Shadows novels is a two-book series, starting with Rising Darkness and concluding with Falling Light (February 2014).  This series is very different from my Elder Races series.  It’s PNR but with a strong feeling of urban fantasy, four points of view, and a cliffhanger at the end of the first book.  The relationship between the hero and heroine is incredibly strong.

Rising DarknessTRC: Rising Darkness was released on April 2, 2013.  Can you please tell us briefly about the book?

Thea: An essential part of this story is the heroine, Mary’s, journey of self discovery.  She really comes into her own by the end of the book.

I’m delighted to share that RT Book Reviews has giving Rising Darkness a 4 ½ stars TOP PICK!

Here is the official blurb for the book:
USA Today bestselling author Thea Harrison begins an all-new, darkly romantic paranormal saga, in which the fate of existence itself lies in the balance—and the key to victory may rest in the hands of two eternal lovers…

In the hospital ER where she works, Mary is used to chaos. But lately, every aspect of her life seems adrift. She’s feeling disconnected from herself. Voices appear in her head. And the vivid, disturbing dreams she’s had all her life are becoming more intense. Then she meets Michael. He’s handsome, enigmatic and knows more than he can say. In his company, she slowly remembers the truth about herself…

Thousands of years ago, there were eight of them. The one called the Deceiver came to destroy the world, and the other seven followed to stop him. Reincarnated over and over, they carry on—and Mary finds herself drawn into the battle once again. And the more she learns, the more she realizes that Michael will go to any lengths to destroy the Deceiver.

Then she remembers who killed her during her last life, nine hundred years ago… Michael.

Order Links: Amazon / Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

TRC: Will we learn more about Michael and Mary’s past or do you have any plans for a ‘back-story’ to their relationship? Perhaps a prequel novella?

Thea: Ooh, I hadn’t thought of a prequel novella before!  That sounds like it could be fun!  I’ll have to think about that.  Through the course of the two books, Michael and Mary’s relationship is deepened, and that includes some information about their past, and about their real natures.

KINKED.Nov 2013TRC: Your next book in your wonderful Elder Races series is coming in November, 2013, Kinked.   Would you like to tell us anything about this next book in this series? How is the significance of the title Kinked worked into the storyline?

Thea: Kinked was SO MUCH FUN to write!  It’s Aryal and Quentin’s story, and for readers of the series, you know that means they start out as enemies.  I’ve actually called it a “hate sex buddy movie love story type of thing.”

The title is significant for several reasons.  There is a touch of BDSM in it, and also, Aryal and Quentin are just so contrary.  It’s funny, with a few touches of sad – and did I mention funny??? - and full of action and feeling, and I can’t wait until it releases.

TRC: Would you like to share with us on what you are currently working on?

Thea: This week I finished the final touches to a proposal for a brand new series!  My agent is taking the first steps to shopping around for a home for it.  I’m afraid I can’t tell you any more than that, except that I’m excited to see what happens next!

And this does NOT mean that the Elder Races series is over!  This summer, my editor and I will begin discussing ideas for book seven and beyond.  I’m excited for that too!

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Thea: If you have European readers, I am happy to say that I will be attending the Love Letter Convention in Berlin in late May.  It’s going to be so much fun – I can’t wait!

Thank you, Thea, for giving us an update on Rising Darkness, as well as what we can look forward to in the future.   It was a pleasure having you visit us again.
