Description:
Lane Driscoll has been having nightmares where she’s chased by a strange man. When she has a threatening run-in with someone who looks just like the man from her dreams, she decides to leave her hometown until she figures out what’s going on. Lane seeks refuge in beautiful Mystic Creek, where she gets a job working at the local perfume shop. Soon after she arrives, a handsome customer seems to think he recognizes Lane, but calls her by the wrong name.

When Jonas Sterling, a local psychologist, encounters his ex-girlfriend, Veneta, in town, he can’t believe his eyes. He hasn’t seen her for years. Jonas is even more baffled when it turns out the woman is a total stranger to him. There’s no way two people could look so similar without being related. Jonas discovers Lane was adopted at the age of three and is now twenty-six years old—the same as the woman he dated.

After initial shock at the idea she could have a twin, something clicks inside Lane—and now she needs to locate her missing sister. A romance blossoms as Jonas agrees to help her. But when the man from Lane’s nightmares shows up in her dreams again, Jonas and Lane realize Veneta may be in grave danger, and their search for Lane’s sister turns into a heart-pounding race.

Review:

Maple Leaf Harvest by Catherine Anderson is the 7th book in her Mystic Creek series.  Lane Driscoll, our heroine, has been having occasional realist nightmares since she was a child; her parents have sent her to doctors, but nothing has ever helped.  With time passed, her nightmares are less, but out of nowhere she has a terrible nightmare, about someone hitting her, and wakes up to notice she has bruises.  The next day at the store, the same man in the dream, sees her and shouts “how did you escape”, but she manages to get away.  Soon after, Lane decides to leave her hometown, to escape the possibly of this person finding her, and try to figure out what is happening.  She ends up in Mystic Creek, and starts a new job in a perfume shop.

Jonas Sterling, our hero and local psychologist, is shocked to see his ex-girlfriend in the store.  When Lane decides to find a psychologist to help her find a cure to her nightmares, she ends up in Jonas office, and he throws her out.  Lane is surprised, since he calls her by another name, and despite her saying that is not her name, he wants nothing to do with her.  But Jonas, being a nice guy, will bring Lane back to the office, and will learn that his ex must be the identical twin of Lane. Jonas will discover that Lane was adopted (which she knew) when she was three years old; but also find out that her identical twin was adopted by someone else, which is against the law to separate twins.

Lane and Jonas will embark on a journey to find ‘Neta” (the other twin), especially since Lane continues to get violent nightmares, which show her twin is in danger, suffering torture. But finding her is almost impossible. Can Lane and Jonas find the villain in time to save her life?

What follows is a slow build romance between Lane and Jonas; they made a great couple with sizzling chemistry.  I really liked them together.  I did not like when Lane made a wrong decision regarding Jonas, without knowing all the facts; and giving up too easily.  To tell too much more would be spoilers, and this is an excellent mystery thriller, which I do not want to spoil.

Maple Leaf Harvest was very exciting, emotional, tense and intriguing story, as they race to find the sister she never knew, in time.  I loved the secondary characters, such as Jonas’s friends, and Lane’s adopted parents.  Catherine Anderson once again gives us another great addition to her Mystic Creek Series.  I suggest if you have not read the Mystic Creek series, you need to do so soon and start with the first book.

She also learns that love can heal almost anything.

Review:

Huckleberry Lake by Catherine Anderson is the 6th book in her Mystic Creek series.  Each one of the books in this series usually centers on two couples; one being the main couple and the other playing a smaller but nice part.    In Huckleberry Lake, the main couple was Erin and Wyatt, whom we met in the previous book, which had left the storyline open about them.

Erin was a new cop, who was also the niece of Slade (last book hero), and she truly was not happy in her job.  Wyatt, is the lead foreman on Slade’s ranch, and is deaf.   Erin has been trying to get Wyatt to pay attention to her attraction to him, but to no avail.  What she doesn’t know is that Wyatt, due to something in his past, has sworn off any relationship with woman.  Wyatt goes out of his way to tell Erin to stop flirting with him, as he is not interested.

Wyatt’s brother Kennedy will rescue a girl from an attack from her former boyfriend, and in a short time after the girl is attacked again, Erin decides she cannot handle working for law enforcement.  She goes to her uncle and decides she would love to work on the ranch.  Of course, once she starts to work there, she learns that Wyatt will be her boss.   Erin gets discouraged, as she tries to work hard at a frenetic pace, which has Wyatt and Slade warning her to slow down and learn about safety; but Erin had a rough childhood, with a father that was never satisfied, and decided perhaps she needed to walk away.  Will Erin give up and leave the ranch, or find a way to get past her tough young years and learn to work with everyone?

The other couple, who also has a part of this story is Erin’s best friend, Julie, and Blackie, who is 20 years older.  There chemistry was very good, and I did like their story line.

What follows is a nice romance about a couple who knew they were meant for each other, but unable to get past their issues.  I loved the part where Erin learned to deal with a troubled horse, and train him to trust her.  I also loved Wyatt’s dog Domino and of course, the cub bear Four Toes (who was part of the previous book).

I did like Erin and Wyatt, but both had their own issues that blocked any relationship.  It took almost to the end of the book, for at least Wyatt to open his eyes.  Erin earlier began to rise up beyond her issues with her father, and I really liked seeing her change.  She showed Wyatt how much she cared for him, and knew it would be difficult for him to allow his feelings for her change his determination to never become involved.   That alone throughout the book did cut the chemistry between them.  It was nice when Erin pushed enough to make him realize that with her, he did not need to protect her.

Huckleberry Lake was a great story and emotional, as well as very well written by Catherine Anderson.   I suggest if you have not read the Mystic Creek series, you need to do so soon and start with the first book.

Review:

Strawberry Hill by Catherine Anderson is the 5th book in her Mystic Creek series. Each one of the books in this series usually centers on two couples; one being an older couple.  In Strawberry Hill, the older couple is the main couple, though early on in the book, it seemed to be focused on the younger couple.  I was surprised, especially since the younger couple was centered   more at the start of the book, and the official description doesn’t even mention them.

We meet Erin, a new cop, who is sent by her commanding officer to make sure riders are following the rules.  She comes across Wyatt, a rancher, whom she finds out later works for her uncle, Slade, whom we met in the prologue, which took place 40 years earlier when he was rescuing a baby bear.   Unbeknownst to Erin, when she tries to question Wyatt, he rides on ignoring her.  She later finds out that he is deaf, and slowly after a bad start they become friends, with a common bond to help her uncle.

At this point, they become the back story, and Slade Wilder takes center stage, trying to hire a cook for his ranch.  When Slade meets his new cook, Vickie Brown, to his chagrin, he recognizes her as the girl who broke his heart 40 years ago, whom he never forgot.    Vickie came to the Wilder Ranch to confront Slade about his ignoring her letters years before, telling him she was pregnant and now is determined to confront him with the truth about his son.

What follows is a nice romance about  a couple that never has forgotten their love years before, and in a short time the chemistry  between them comes flooding back, but first they need to resolve the misunderstandings from the past that cost them all those years.   Vickie had left Slade when she find out he slept with a friend, which he denied, but she had proof.  When she sent him three letters about his son, she went on with her life til now.  Slade was upset that she didn’t tell him; despite her saying he ignored her letters.  They will discover the truth about the sabotages to their relationship, and who was responsible.  Will they find a way 40 years later to stay together and  resume their love for each other?

It was a nice romance of a likeable older couple, and Vickie was a riot pulling pranks on Slade.  I did keep waiting for the continuation of Erin and Wyatt.  I really enjoyed the glimpses of the bear (the baby he nursed back to health all those years ago), as this was a fun part of the story, as some of the bear’s antics were hilarious.

Catherine Anderson once again gives us a wonderful story that was very well written.  I suggest if you have not read the Mystic Creek series, you need to do so soon and start with the first book.

Spring Forward Banner

Spring ForwardAmazon / B&N/ Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
When a favorite customer on his delivery route needs a favor, Tanner Richards agrees to help without a second thought. The last thing he expects is to face off against the man’s spitfire granddaughter.

Crystal Malloy is near her breaking point. Her beloved grandfather constantly skirts the rules at the retirement center where he’s recovering from surgery. She’s caring for his escape artist dog, even if it means abandoning her salon customers, and she has no time for a romantic attraction to the handsome new stranger.

After Tanner’s reassigned to Mystic Creek, Crystal can no longer ignore how much she misjudged the man’s good intentions. She has known too much sorrow to easily open her heart, but she can’t deny that Tanner and his children could gift her with a happiness beyond compare–if only she can forgive herself for the past and accept that she’s deserving of such a love.

Review:

Spring Forward by Catherine Anderson is the 4th book in her wonderful Mystic Creek series. Crystal Malloy, our heroine, lives with her grandfather (Tuck), who brought her up; she also manages a hair salon.  Crystal’s grandfather is currently recovering from surgery after a fall at a retirement home, and Crystal is beside herself trying to find his dog, Rip, who is always running away every day.

Tanner Richards, our hero, is a parcel delivery driver, who has always been a friend to Tuck; and when Tuck calls him to bring him some beer and chewing tobacco, he doesn’t hesitate.  Unfortunately, Tanner will get into trouble, as the nasty head of the facility discovers the forbidden goods, and calls Crystal.  She will threaten Crystal to report the truck driver, or she will send Tuck home, even if he isn’t ready.

This will open the door for Crystal and Tanner to meet.  Some fun begins when Tanner has to deliver a package to Crystal and finds himself trapped in the yard by Rip, who was a terror and blocks him from escaping, eventually trying to pulling off some clothes to distract the dog.  Crystal will arrive home to see a half naked stranger stuck on her porch; she will rescue him, and in a short time when they meet again, and a slow built romance will begin.

What follows is a sweet romance between Tanner, who is a widower, with two children and the single, but emotionally damaged Crystal.  Before Tuck took Crystal to live with him, she suffered emotional abuse from her father and mother, and the tragic loss of her younger sister.  Crystal loves her grandfather very much, but those days with her parents caused her to blame herself for anything that goes wrong; she doesn’t think she is good for Tanner and his children.  Tanner will do all he kind to convince Crystal to believe in herself.  Will Crystal’s love for Tanner help her get past her issues?

There is also a very nice side romance between Tuck and a lady in the retirement home, Essie.  Essie is a very smart, independent and wealthy woman, who will fall for Tuck.  There is some fun when it is Essie who will help Tuck against the evil administrator.  Catherine Anderson’s ability to create wonderful characters makes this a great series; as I loved Tanner, Crystal, Tuck, Tanner’s kids and Essie.  I loved Rip more so later in the book, when he calmed down more and was very loving to the kids, and Crystal, as well as being protective.

Spring Forward was a fun, romantic and sexy read, with two great couples, cute children, and a crazy dog.  Catherine Anderson once again gives us a wonderful story that was very well written.  I suggest if you have not read the Mystic Creek series, you need to do so soon and start with the first book.

Description:

Maddie and Sam will never see eye to eye on anything, until a near-tragedy gives them a true glimpse into each other’s souls. And as the first snowflakes begin to fall, they’ll discover that an open heart is the biggest gift of all….

Review:

The Christmas Room by Catherine Anderson was a heartwarming story about two families that will find a chance to love again.  Maddie McLendon, is a famous mystery writer, who moves with her son, Cam and grandson Caleb to Bitterroot Valley, Montana. They are currently living in a trailer, while their new home is in the process of being built.  Maddie is also undergoing chemo therapy, which neither her son nor grandson are aware of; especially since it’s only been two years since the death of her husband to Cancer.

Cam has been working on selling properties, and one evening on the way home, he stops at the local bar. He meets Kirstin, whom he immediately feels an attraction to.  When he learns that she is the daughter of Sam Conacher,  a known mean embittered millionaire rancher, who will destroy the reputation of anyone who comes near his daughter.  Cam not living long in Bitterroot, apologizes and walks away, afraid to hurt his new career.  But the attraction between him and Kirstin was strong, and despite his worry, they will soon begin a sweet romance.

Sam Conacher, after the death of his wife to cancer 6 years before, became an embittered, angry and lonely man, who not only had a nasty temper but also drank; which cost him to lose his friends and ranch hands.

The main focus of this story switches to Maddie, who equally stands up to Sam’s nastiness and he knows he has met his match in Maddie.  At first they become enemies, but when a horrible accident occurs, where Cam is badly injured saving Kirstin’s life, things will change.  The McLendon’s will move to Sam’s ranch while Cam recuperates, and in a short time, Sam’s temperament lightens, as he begins to enjoy Maddie’s company.  Very slowly, a sweet heartfelt romance also begins between Maddie and Sam, who have come to rely on each other and enjoy their talks.  Neither of them consider anything more than friendship, since they both were devoted to their deceased spouses.

In the beginning, it seemed like a basic romance that starts with Cam and Kirstin.  But once the battles between Sam and Maddie begin, the story caught my attention and did not let go.  I really liked all the characters, Maddie, Cam, Kirsten, Caleb and eventually Sam.  This was a wonderful emotional storyline that had a bit of everything; love, anger, grief, laughter, sickness, heartwarming, and a sweet family.  The Christmas Room title is based on how Caleb creates a Christmas decorated room to perk up his grandmother.

Catherine Anderson does an amazing job of giving us two wonderful couples; one young and the one older.  If you love pure romances, with a family background, I suggest you read The Christmas Room.

excerpt

“Kirstin caught a flash of movement off in the woods, and she fixed her gaze on something large and such a dark brown that it was nearly black. She stared as it moved toward them and its outline took on a distinct shape. Her heart started to pound. “Cam,” she said softly.
“You do understand that I’m uncomfortable with all this sneaking around,” he said.
“Cam,” she said with more urgency while not raising her voice. “There’s a bull moose coming in our direction.”
He followed her gaze with his own. “Wow. I’ve seen them along the roads while driving, but never up close like this.”
“Keep your voice down!” she said in a stage whisper. “Seeing it up close is not good. Look around you for the biggest tree and run for it. I’ll go the opposite direction. Moose are stupid. We might gain a few precious seconds if we confuse it.”
Cam finally seemed to register that she was frightened. “You’re going to climb a tree? Is it really that dangerous? I never studied moose.”
“I haven’t either, but I’ve grown up with them.” Kirstin shifted her hips to get her feet under her. “You don’t need to climb the tree. Just do an earthbound version of pole dancing. If he lunges at you, keep the tree in front of you as a barrier.”
From the corner of her eye, she saw Cam work his way into a crouch.
“One, two, three!” She sprang forward, moving to her left. Cam lurched into a run, going the opposite direction. “Zigzag!” she yelled. “Big zigzags! Don’t run in a straight line!”
As Kirstin ran, she saw the animal start after Cam, but then it changed its mind and lunged after her. Good, she thought. By running in two different directions, we got a slight edge. She reached her chosen tree, a medium-size ponderosa, and planted the flats of her hands against its red bark. The moose was right behind her. She circled to put the massive trunk between her and Bullwinkle. The moose, broad head lowered, rammed into the conifer with its antlers, which her dad called paddles because of their shape. To her horror, she felt the tree shudder under the impact.
“Kirstin?” Cam cried. Then she heard him yell, “Oh, shit!”
She was too focused on the bull to even glance toward Cam. She heard the animal grunting. If she made one wrong move, circling right when she needed to go left, or vice versa, she could end up dead. The next instant, she felt hard bands clamp around her hips. Then her weight was lifted upward with such speed that she thought the moose’s paddles had caught her and thrown her upward.
“Grab the limb!” Cam yelled. “Fast! Hold on and swing a leg over it.”
Kirstin had no time to consider the wisdom of these directives. Cam was on the ground and presently holding her up. He’d be injured or killed if she didn’t move quickly. She threw her arms around a limb and hooked a knee over it. As she sat up to scoot closer to the conifer’s trunk, she saw Cam leap up to grab another limb across from hers. He swung forward, then back, and then forward again as he lifted his weight. The bull rammed his lower legs with its paddles, and she thought Cam might be jerked to the ground. But with a show of incredible strength, he muscled himself up to safety with only one arm.
He inched toward her to hug the trunk just as she was. Just then she felt the pine shudder again. Cam, heaving for breath, tipped his head to one side and met her gaze. “We need a bigger tree.” ”

Review:

Mulberry Moon by Catherine Anderson is the 3rd book in her Mystic Creek series. This is another one of those sweet romances in small towns, which Catherine Anderson does so well.

Ben Sterling, who is our hero, has returned to Mystic Creek to run his farm, after a long stint on the Rodeo circuit.  Ben has no trouble dating women, but the one he has always wanted to date completely ignores him, and he can’t figure out why.   Sissy Bentley is our heroine, and she runs the local café, which  she inherited from her aunt. The café continues to grow, as Sissy’s reputation for good food brings her more business than she can handle.

Ben no longer visits Sissy’s café, since she is very indifferent and cold towards him.  One cold night, as he heads toward his car, he sees chickens running everywhere.  Ben realizes they are coming from the back of Sissy’s restaurant, and tries to catch them.  Sissy will also run out to help Ben bring back her hens, and reluctantly accepts his help.  Ben explains why this happened, as her chicken coop is small and not in good shape.  Ben will eventually convince Sissy to allow him to build her a bigger and better chicken coop, and in turn she can pay him with 4 meals a day.

What Ben doesn’t know is that Sissy had a rough childhood, and an abusive father, which totally turns her off of any man.  Sissy will do all she can to push Ben away, despite her slowly growing attraction to him; but her trust issues, as well as fears will force her to block him at every turn.

Ben is very persistent, and uses the time he spends eating  and working at the restaurant to help Sissy to open up to him.  What follows is a slow build romance that has Sissy beginning to realize that she is falling hard for Ben.  Ben knows Sissy is the one woman for him; the one he wants to spend his life with.  Will Sissy be able to learn to trust and admit her love for Ben?

There were some very good characters, especially Sissy’s neighbors and the daily restaurant visitors, as well as Ben’s family.  I loved Ben’s dog, and eventually the kitten she adopts.  When Sissy has an accident and breaks her leg, things between her and Ben will change for the better, as he will be there for her throughout, including helping in the café.  The sexual chemistry between them becomes scorching hot, though there was a lot of sexual tension.  Ben was such a great hero, always looking out for Sissy, caring for her,  even to the point he forced himself not to have sex, since she was recovering.  Just when Sissy finally opens her eyes to how much she loves Ben, the hated father will return causing her to back away, in order to protect Ben.

Mulberry Moon was very well written, a sweet small town romance, great characters, wonderful pets, an exciting climax and a fun story.  The lone issue I had was that Sissy was very annoying early on with her refusal to give Ben a chance, but that changed later.  Overall this was a heartwarming story that you should read.

But they have no idea what they’re up against, or what they’re willing to risk to make a miracle come true in Mystic Creek.

Review:

New Leaf by Catherine Anderson is the 2nd book in her Mystic Creek series. This was a sweet romance story, with a nice couple, and takes place in a small town. I did enjoy the book, but I had some mixed feelings that about New Leaf. I will go into that later.

Barney Sterling, our hero, is a deputy in Mystic Creek and is used to the low key atmoshphere of a small town.. He receives a neighbor noise complaint, which makes him visit Taffeta Brown to lower her music. Taffeta ( Taffy) has only been in Mystic Creek three years, and in all that time she comes across as being quiet, old fashioned, and wearing very little makeup. When Barney visits Taffeta, he is surprised at how beautiful she looks. He is drawn to her, and also becomes somewhat suspicious why she seems to be hiding her true looks.

We learn early that Taffy moved to Mystic Creek to hide from her previous life, where she was falsely convicted of abusing her baby daughter. Her wealthy and powerful ex husband lied about her, and the whole town believed him. Taffy is trying to save money to try to help her get her daughter back, and get the conviction reversed. Being desperate, and knowing Barney is attracted to her, she tries to make a deal. Marry her for respectability, and after she gets her daughter back, they can get divorced. Barney is shocked and angry at the proposal, but after doing some investigating, he accepts.

All this is early on. What follows is a slow build romance that will find them both falling in love with each other, despite Barney’s misgivings of becoming serious until after all is over. Barney manages to use his friends and contacts to help Taffy reopen the case, and in doing so, they both get to meet Sarah, Taffy’s 5 year old daughter. This was a nice light read, and the couple was very nice together, though some of the story was a bit slow.

My mixed feelings: Barney’s early treatment of Taffy was a bit annoying, as well as his not believing her feelings for him were real. That did change later, and he was great. However, I really did not like the names Barney and Taffy as a couple. But most of all, the last quarter of the book, when we get to meet Sarah was a major turn off for me. Having a 5 year old child constantly cursing, wearing makeup, discussing about strippers, boobs, and hatred of cops. Ugh. I understand the child was living in a bad environment and copied the talk of those she lived with. But it did not sit well with me, especially when she spoke fluently like an older person. Maybe if the child was at least 10, I would understand it better, but 5 years old and her vocal mouth was a turn off for me.

Overall, this was a very good story, with a good theme, as Catherine Anderson writes very well. Despite my mixed feelings for New Leaf, I will continue to read future books in this series, as I loved the first book.

Review:

Silver Thaw by Catherine Anderson is the 1st book in her new Mystic Creek series. After finishing this book, I am totally hooked and look forward to more from Anderson and Mystic Creek. Silver Thaw was such an awesome story, with a little bit of everything..danger, suspense, small town atmosphere, family, abuse, adorable child, animals, love and romance. I could not put this book down; the further I got, the more I needed to know what was going to happen.

We meet our heroine Amanda Banning and her cute 6 year old daughter Chloe, right at the start. Amanda has only lived in Mystic Creek for a few months, working a part time job, but she barely is able to provide for the both of them, living in an old broken down cabin. We learn quickly that she is in hiding from an abusive husband, whom she ran away from. Every night, when Chloe is asleep, Amanda writes little wishful notes on a pink piece of paper and lets it blow away into the wind.

Jeb Sterling is our hero, and he has lived in Mystic Creek all his life. Jeb has a big house, where he lives alone with his dog, Bozo, a mastiff. While feeding the farm animals, he begins to see pink notes on his land. As he reads them, Jeb senses a woman who is in dire need, and she is running away from something. But he has no idea who the woman is.

That is until a terrible ice storm hits Mystic Creek. Jeb and many residents go out to the homes of the local seniors to see if they need help. He comes across on his last stop, the small cabin, and meets Amanda and Chloe. The house has lost power, they are freezing, and it is too dangerous for them to stay there. Jeb insists they come to his house until the storm is over, and despite her misgivings, Amanda agrees for one night. It doesn’t take long for Jeb to realize that this woman is the one who was writing those notes.

All of this is early on, and what follows is wonderful story that will grab you from the start and never let go until you have read the very last page. This is a sweet romance, that builds slowly, so nicely done. Amanda in not in any shape, physically or mentally to trust any man. But Jeb is such a great hero, as he was so sweet and kind to both Amanda and Chloe. He begins to fall for Amanda, and Chloe, as does Bozo. Jeb understands what Amanda has gone through and is very careful with her. It not only is a great romance, as he slowly tries to help her, but the last third of the book is very exciting. Just when Amanda begins to let her guard down, her horrific past will rear its ugly head.

I loved Jeb and Amanda together, how she began to know what true love was all about. I loved Chloe, as she was adorable, and at the same time, sad as she saw too much of the past. I do not want to give spoilers, but this is a must read. I loved every moment of it. Thank you, Catherine Anderson for this wonderful story, and I can’t wait to return to Mystic Creek.
