Review:

Celta Cats by Robin D. Owens is a collection of short stories in the Pov of her wonderful Fams, from  her fantastic Celta series.   This book is a pure fun enjoyable read, especially for fans of this series. I have said in many of my reviews on the Celta series that my most favorite things are the Fams we get to meet in each and every book.  The cats are in the majority, but there have been many other animal species.

Fams can talk to their human companion out loud or telepathically, and they are fiercely loyal to their human.   They also have magic flair that enables them to do various things, including teleporting; though not all Fams are the same.  They are all so much fun and add so much to the overall story.

When I heard Robin was going to do a book on some of the Fams we know, especially Zanth, with short stories in their POV, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the book, and I thoroughly loved each story.  I will not write a review of each story, as they are short and the above description gives you an idea what each is about.  Celta Cats was a fun lighthearted book to read, and as I said before, if you are a fan of this series, it is a do not miss.

Description:
Journey back to the planet Celta with award-winning author Robin D. Owens in this novel about shadowed enemies and unimaginable psi power.

Muin “Vinni” T’Vine has been the prophet of Celta since he was six years old. A unique and lonely child, his strong psi power made most people wary of him. But now that he’s older, he’s ready to marry and protect the girl he’s known was his HeartMate for years.

Avellana isn’t as fragile as Vinni believes…nor as compliant. She fights to be considered Vinni’s equal and a strong member of her Family and community. Both of them have kept Avellana’s main power secret for over a decade.

But rumors of her strange psi talent are spreading, and Vinni is experiencing premonitions of danger to Avellana—even from the highest people of the land. When the whispers become threats, Vinni and Avellana must discover and defeat their secret enemies before they can finally claim happiness together.

Review:

Heart Sight by Robin D. Owens is the 15th book in her wonderful Celta series. The Celta series takes place in a futuristic world, filled with magic, animal familiars, telepathy and romance.

We meet our hero, Vinni (Muin) T’Vine early on when, when he visits his heartmate, Avelanna (our heroine), whom he has sent away to protect her from possible danger.   Vinni is the prophet of Celta (since he was a child), and forsees attempts on Avellana’s life, as the big T’Vine family doesn’t want him to bond with his heartmate.  Seems Avellana has a power that people do not like, and they feel she isn’t worthy of the T’Vine family.  Vinni has waited years for Avellana to be old enough to for Avellana to be older, and to Heartbond with her;  but now he stills sees these visions, and wants to her stay away.  Avellana is now grown up, and misses her home, and being able to use her amazing mural creations.  She stands up to Vinni, and will not leave again; her home is where she belongs, and tells him she will work together with him to fight their enemies.

What follows is an exciting, and sweet romantic tale of two people who have known each other since childhood, and knew they were destined to be mates.  The threat is real though, but Vinni will do all he can to get help to protect Avellana, as they get closer to finalizing their bond.  Another nice element to the tense situation is Avellana’s partnership on a new project for specialized made to order homes, in another territory, which will help Avellana become more independent financially.  I loved the two of them together, but I loved their fams (Rhys, Avellana’s the cat & Flora, Vinni’s bunny), who talk telepathically, as well as help them.  So much fun.

Once again, Robin D. Owens gives us another wonderful addition to this series.  Heart Sight was a fun, romantic story with a tense and suspenseful mystery.  If you enjoy romances in a fun fantasy magic world, you should be reading this series..

While trying to resolve their issues, Barton discovers Enata’s secret and they must work as a couple to resolve the puzzle that includes Barton’s missing relatives — if they dare. And if they fail, more than their own lives are lost.

Review:

Lost Heart by Robin D. Owens is the first novella in her wonderful Celta series. Celta Heartmates series takes place in a futuristic world, filled with magic, animal familiars, telepathy and romance.  We meet our hero Barton Clover early on when his brother is forcing him to stop looking for two missing members of the Clover family.  Barton is head of security for the entire Clover family, and he is a workaholic, determined to protect those in his family.  Barton’s brother wants him to see T’Willow, the Celta matchmaker, since it is time for Barton to find a mate, even if she isn’t a heartmate.

Enata Licorice, our heroine is a librarian, in her highly respected Licorice family, who has been currently trying to solve an issue of memories being erased.  Enata sees her sister happy having found her lifemate, and is somewhat jealous.  She puts herself into her work, feeling she will never find a mate. When she visits T’Willow with her family, the matchmaker finds her match.  Barton will be brought in to meet Enata, both given a love potion and love is in the making.  In an unusual change, they are not Heartmates, but they are meant for each other and fully in love. In Celta, not everyone has Heartmates, only a select few, but many find their mates and live happily ever after.

After Barton and Enata are married, which does have some very steamy sex scenes; they must visit and meet both families.  What follows is an interesting story, which will have both of them researching why those missing family members are forgotten, and together they will attempt to solve the mystery.  In the middle of their investigation, Barton will find his cat fam, Resup, a little kitten, who acts like a full grown cat.  Enata will also find her fam, a beautiful bird.  One of the best things about this series is the familiars, whether it’s a cat, fox, bird, etc.  I love the fun we have with them as they talk to their humans telepathically, and also help them.

Lost Heart was a fun, sexy story with a nice mystery.  Robin D. Owens did a wonderful job writing this addition to her Celta series, especially be able to give us everything we love about the series in the shorter novella format.  Great series that you should be reading.

Description:
After the death of GrandLord Yew years ago, the Yews withdrew to their self-sustaining estate and disappeared from Celtan society. The current head of the household is believed to be eighteen-year-old Loridana. To find out, Draeg Blackthorn has been sent to the estate to spy, undercover as a stableman for the stridebeasts—beautiful creatures that hold a place in Lori’s heart no member of her family ever could.

Bullied by her family, Lori has decided to abandon her bloodline and live on her own with her true family—her animals. When Draeg discovers she’s rejecting her heritage, he’s appalled. He’s come to love the land as much as the woman, even spinning small fantasies of marrying Lori and becoming Lord and Lady of the manor. Draeg wants her to stay and fight her elders. For Lori, it’s an alternative that could render her absolutely powerless to pursue her own destiny, and drive her further away from her perfect dreams and the man she loves, Draeg.

Review:

Heart Legacy by Robin D. Owens is the 14th book in her wonderful Celta series. This story belongs to Draeg Blackthorn and Loridana (Lori) Yew. The Yew’s have been distant and separated from the rest of the first families in Celta for many years, not trusted or well liked due to their villainous past.  Lori is only 18, but she should have been given the title of D’Yew to run the estate. However, Lori has been bullied and ignored by the other Yew family members, as well as residence. They are mean to her, and she has no say as to the estate, which rightfully is hers to run.

Draeg has been sent to spy on the estate, as a stableman, to discover what is happening in the Yew household and uncover who is behind the villainous attacks against the first families. Draeg meets Lori’s famcat, Baccat, who fiercly protects her, and warns Draeg to stay away from the mean house. Once Draeg meets Lori, he knows immediately that she is not the one behind the attacks.

In a short time, both Draeg and Lori find themselves attracted to each other. Draeg tries to fight the attraction, but Lori is desperate to act on her feelings, which worries Draeg, as he knows she is a virgin. Slowly, there romance heats up and the chemistry becomes very hot. Draeg feels guilty that he cannot tell Lori the truth about him being a spy on the family, even if he knows she is innocent. Between Lori’s actions, and Baccat’s comments (in this series, fam’s do talk), Draeg discovers that the family treats Lori as a distant relative, not allowing her any control.

He finally realizes that Lori and Baccat are planning on leaving the estate, and take the horses with them. Lori is tired of being treated so badly, and just wants to give it all up. She plans to secretly escape to a small country estate that her father left her. Draeg tries to convince her that she should never give up the inheritance that rightfully belongs to her. What follows is not only a beautiful romance, some fun with Baccat, as well as Draeg’s new crow fam; and an exciting finish that will find the true culprits within the family, who are part of the attacks, and hurting Lori.

But before he can tell her the truth, Lori discovers that Draeg has been spying and pushes him away in anger, and mistrust. It was nice to see many of the Celta families that we have met from previous stories. Will Lori forgive Draeg or will she leave it all behind?   Will Draeg tell Lori she is his heartmate?

Once again Robin D. Owens gives us another wonderful story of two unlikely people, who find their true love. I am a big fan of this series, and cannot wait for the next one.

Description:

Antenn, an architect hired to build a cathedral in Druida City, dares not think of his HeartMate. Even though he yearns for her, he’s taken steps to ensure she will be forever unknown to him. After all, how could he, a commoner who grew up in the slums, the brother of a murderer, be worthy of any woman?

Tiana, a priestess, has her own fears about being a HeartMate. She’s watched her friends struggle with such a stormy destiny. She’s sure her HeartMate has never claimed her due to a terrible scandal involving her Family, and she’s set aside hopes for love.

Antenn’s gotten the commission of his life. The cathedral will make him famous, but more, it will last for ages and prove to others he can contribute to Celta…if the controversial structure isn’t destroyed while being built. Tiana, too, is an integral part of this process, but the villain who wrecked her Family is ready with firebombs. Can they trust each other in dangerous circumstances to succeed…and to love?

Review:
Heart Fire by Robin D. Owens is the 13th book in her wonderful Celta series. I have been waiting a long time for Tiana’s story and was thrilled to find out Heart Fire was hers. Antenn is our hero, and Tiana’s Heartmate; however, it will take awhile before they both realize they are mates.

They each have a past that has left marks on them both which were caused by terrible tragedies that marred them. We have known that Tiana’s family was wrongly accused years ago, and lost their titles and home. Tiana is a priestess, and resents that her families past has held her back. She believes she is good enough to become the high priestess. Tiana has also searched from time to time the feel of her Heartmate to no avail. Of course, she blamed the inability to sense her heartmate on her family’s history, that he will never acknowledge her. Tiana is assigned to handle all the religious aspects worthy of a priestess on the new Cathedral. She meets and works closely with Antenn, as they both must face the difficulties involved with those against this project.

Antenn life’s was also wrecked when he was very young, by his brother being a murderer. Antenn was lucky that one of the High families adopted him. Now Antenn, who is an architect, has won a huge contract to build a Cathedral, which he hopes will earn him the respect he feels is now due to him. When he was growing up, he and his family did a spell to block him from sensing or finding his heartmate; because he was not ready at that time for any kind of emotion. Both Antenn and Tiana feel some attraction to each other, but neither suspects they are heartmates.

Without giving spoilers, what follows is wonderfully written romance that builds slowly. The villain behind Tiana’s family ruin is in the background of this story, and very nicely handled. Friends and family come together to help resolve a wrong. The romance and suspense throughout this storyline, held in the wonderful land of Celta, made for an enjoyable heartwarming and fun relaxing read. But what I have always loved about this series, are the Fams (animal familiars who telepathically talk to their fam). In Heart Fortune we got to meet some of the others we have met before, and Anteen’s cat fam, Pinky, whom he had since he was a young boy. But we meet Tiana’s cat fam at the start. Shock of all shocks, he is a stray dirty cat, who is called RATKILLER, and is feared by other cats. But from the start, as he speaks to her very loudly, you know Ratkiller is the perfect fam for Tiana…tough, protective, loyal, independent and cocky. Of course he gets a new name to add on, but we will never forget Ratkiller. I also loved TQ (the residence).

Once again Robin D. Owens takes us on journey through Celta, giving us another wonderful couple, terrific storyline, and the fun fams, as well as the residence. Very well done.

Description:
On the faraway planet Celta, there are some forces you cannot fight?

Jace Bayrum has always been a loner. Concerned more with getting an adrenaline fix and making money to live on his own, Jace cares little for family ties or matters of the heart. On the other hand Glyssa Licorice, Jace’s former fling and true mate, is both loving and loyal. She is determined to track down her HeartMate and have him claim her.

After hearing that Jace has been involved in an accident, Glyssa sets out to find him, departing for the excavation site of the lost starship Lugh’s Spear. Though her goal is to help Jace and finesse him into recognizing her as his mate, the excavation itself draws her in?

Thrust by fate into working side-by-side, Jace and Glyssa’s electric connection from years before sparks once more. She intrigues him, and Jace begins to realize that a HeartMate can make a difference. And one as magnetic as Glyssa could be exactly what he has been searching for.

Review:

Heart Fortune by Robin D. Owens is the 12th book in her Celta series.  This is such a wonderful series, and Robin continues with another fabulous book. The destined mates in  Heart Fortune are Glyssa Licorice, whom we have met previously, as she is best friends with Camellia and Tiana; and Jace Bayrum, who is a loner in so many ways.

Jace and Glyssa had been sexually involved awhile back, and Jace wasn’t interested in any kind of long term relationship.  Glyssa, though knew Jace was her heart mate, but she wants him to come to her and accept their true relationship.   Glyssa is a second level Librarian, with her family all first level librarians.  After talking to her friend, Camellia, Glyssa decides to travel to where the excavation of a lost starship is going on, and where Jace is.  She is going to use this to record her findings to help her become a first level Librarian, and take the same opportunity to work on Jace, and make him recognize her as his heart mate.

The story focuses on the excavation, and the danger involved, as someone is trying to sabotage the site.  Jace is being framed, and though Glyssa tries to defend him, he gets angry at her for what he calls interfering.  Jace has always been a loner, having blamed his mother for his father’s death, and remembering how she ruled him.  Jace wants nothing to do with a permanent relationship with any women who would try to tell him what to do.  Glyssa has her hands full, and though they do have steamy sex, and often, she does know that something is holding Jace back.  I loved Glyssa, who was a strong heroine, well liked, very personable, and smart.  She would stand by Jace, but he was too blind to see her.  Personally, I did not like Jace, until closer to the end. He enjoyed his sex with Glyssa, and knew there was something more; but he steadily refused to open himself up, and in doing this, he hurt Glyssa.  There were times I wanted to smack him, and for the most part, I felt Glyssa was too good for him.  However, I understand Jace’s childhood issues.

What I love the most about this series is the world of Celta; the ability to teleport, and the different flairs many have.  Robin always has wonderful characters that come to life in her books.  Most of all, I adore the Fams.  If you remember from my previous reviews, the Fams are animals who become the persons familiar, and they talk telepathically to each other.  In most cases, the fams are cats, but there have been many different animals.  In Heart Fortune, I adored Lepid, Glyssa’s young fox fam., who was so cute, vocal, and rambunctious.  Jace’s fam was Zem, a hawkcel bird, who became fast friends with Lepid.   The Fams are a big part of this story, the mystery and become involved in the danger surrounding Jace and Glyssa.

I won’t reveal any spoilers, other then to say this is a fun, fast and enjoyable read. Heart Fortune is a wonderful book, with a romance that was slow to build, due to Jace’s stubbornness; the wonderful Fams; a marvelous heroine in Glyssa; and a very exciting last 1/3 of the book, as the danger escalates, putting lives in jeopardy.  It is also a story of friendship, family, mystery, all in the wonderful world of Celta  I love this series, and Robin Owens is another one of my favorite authors that I will not miss a book.

Heart Secret by Robin D. Owens – a Review

Heart Secret by Robin D. Owens – a Review

Heart Secret is the latest book of Robin D. OwensHeart Mate  series, and it is the 11th book in that series.  I have really enjoyed this series, and Heart Secret continues the wonderful journey in the world of Celta.  The destined mates in this book is Garrett Primross and Artemesia Mugwort Panax.

Garrett is a private investigator, whom we got to know in Heart Search.  He is a friend of Laev T’Hawthorn.  Artemesia, is a second level healer, whom we met in the last book also, and we know of  her sister Tiana as Camellia’s friend.

18 months ago, a terrible sickness caused many deaths, including Garrett’s ex love.  He has never been able to get over this loss.  Until now, there have been no repeat of this Iasc sickness, when a young boy becomes sick.  The healers decide to be proactive, and they have asked Garrett to help discover why he was the only one who got sick at that time, and survived.  They know it is something with his blood, and they want him to volunteer to help be a guinea pig.    The first level healers assign Artemisa to be his healer, and they are locked in a residence to block the disease for getting out.  Garrett is injected with the virus.

One of the fun things of this series, is how residences talk like people.  Very cool.  I enjoyed the Turquoise House (TQ) helping clean the germs, and talk to both Garrett & Artemesia.  Later we meet another residence in the Mugwort home…Balm Heal House.

While infected and sick with the virus, Garrett has many nightmares, and Artemesia learns about his dead love, Dinni.  It is Artemesia who helps Garrett through the roughest part of the virus, which he eventually will overcome again.  During his lock down, a kitten gets into the house and decides he is Garrett’s FamCat.   Rusby is adorable, and I totally fell in love with him.  But then again, I love most of the fam animals of the Heart series.  Later, Artemesia finds her own fam animal in Randa a cute raccoon.

Garrett, treats Artemesia coldly and mean early on.  She has no idea why he acts like that to her.  Even Rusby tells his Fam Man  that he is so nasty with the healer.  Truth be told, Garrett has known that Artemesia is his Heart Mate, and he has no desire to have any relationship, since he cannot get over Dinni, and does not want to suffer the heartbreak again.   In his arrogant behaviour, he tells Artemesia that she is his Heart Mate, and he is not interested in her.  She is hurt, and angry.  It is against Celta laws to tell your mate, who does not know, that she is your Heart Mate.

Heart Secret is also a mystery, as there is a murder, and Artemesia is a suspect, even though she has an alibi, being locked in the TQ house asleep at the time.  The only reason besides finding the body later, is that her family was accused many many years ago of something they did not do.  The murdered man was part of that.  This disgrace is another reason why Artemesia is only a second level healer, though she is an excellent healer.  Her boss, Ura Heather, was not likeable at all, a typical snob, and I hated how she treated Artemesia.

Working together to help the police solve the murder, Garrett finds himself becoming more and more aware of Artemesia.  She ignores him, and has decided to search for a husband (not a heart mate), who will love her, and give her children.  This also begins to bother Garrett, to see her with other men.  As things get exciting, Garrett begins to open up his heart, and he sees Artemesia as his Heart Mate, and then works to woo her, and win her back to him.

This was not quite as exciting as Heart Search, but an excellent story nevertheless.  I also enjoyed that Garrett used the feral animals for help to solve his cases.  He fed them everyday, and we would watch them talk to him to tell him what was happening.  A cute idea, to use these telepathic animals as his helpers to find clues.

Garrett’s rudeness to Artemesia early on was somewhat of a turnoff, as I felt bad for her.  But with the help of Rusby, this was a very nicely done romance, that grew over the course of the book. I enjoy the way Owens uses some of her characters from earlier books, and this was a great way to see them again.   It was a great ending, as there was a big surprise in solving the murder. Another great addition to the Heart Mate series.  If you have not read this series, I suggest you start from the beginning and read them all. Life in Celta is fun, not to mention I want a Fam Cat for myself.

Heart Search by Robin D. Owens – a Review

Heart Search by Robin Owens – a Review

Heart Search by Robin D. Owens is the 10th book in her Celta series. This book belongs to Laev T’Hawthorn and Camiella Darjeeling, who have spent years not accepting the bond of Heartmates, that they were to each other.  Instead, both were victims to the bad people that have effected their lives.

In Laev’s case, he made a mistake many years ago, when he was only 17 years old,  by choosing a woman, whom he desired sexually.  But she was not his true heartmate.  His wife was a vicious woman, who only wanted Laev for his money and class, as she stole from him all these years.  Nivea, Laev’s wife died a few years ago to a sickness that effected many people in Celta.  Laev has closed his heart to finding who his true heartmate is, as he cannot forgive himself for his past mistake, and hides his shame.  Laev allows himself to care about his family and close friends, and is thrilled to now have a new Fam cat.  We meet Brazos, and he is just what Laev needs to open his heart a bit, even if he blinds himself to any other possibilities.  Laev’s is determined to find all the stolen jewels/articfacts that Nivea had stolen from him, and hires a private investigator to find them.

Camellia on the other hand, has known all these years who her heartmate was.  But since he was married to another woman, she bespelled herself to never think of him.  Camellia has devoted her time to open two restaurants, as that is how we meet her, at her second successful opening of her tea shop.  Camellia is a strong heroine, and maintains her independence.  You can’t help but like Camellia from the start, and when she meets her Fam cat, Mica, it is so great to watch them together.  In case you have not read this series, the Fams, who are mostly cats in this series, can talk telepathically with their owners, some of which is hysterical.  I enjoyed Brazos, but loved Mica.  Robin Owens’ use of Fam pets, is so much fun in this series.

Back to Camiella.  She has no desire to look at Laev, now that he is free, since she has sworn off men, most of whom have hurt her.  Camiella’s father and uncle constantly steal her valuables, destroy things in her house, as well as hurt her.  They are bad people, or as Mica says “mean mean people”  Her brother is weak, and refuses to see that truth about his father or uncle, and is no help for Camiella.  On that note, I really did not care for the brother, because of his ignorance in helping his sister, who was always in danger.  Camiella always files complaints, but nothing is ever done. She then decides to step up her self defense training, and is sent to classes for men, so she would learn how to handle and fight off her father.  It is there that Camiella comes face to face with Laev, who still does not recognize her has his heartmate, and she is not about to tell him.  She tries to avoid him any way she can.  But as we knew would happen, the attraction begins to bring them together as friends & eventually as lovers.  This happens has Laev makes advances to Camiella, and she hints to him about their aroused sexual dreams.  Then he knows she is his lover in his dreams, and his heartmate.  Laev, who wants nothing to do with a heartmate, walks away.  But realizes he cannot get her out of his mind, and he then makes a proposition that they become lovers, with no commitments.  Camiella is happy with that, as she also wants Laev as a lover, and cannot allow herself to become dependent on any man, as she has been hurt too much in her past.

Camiella’s friends, and Brazos and Mica help with little things to bring them together, as it is apparent to all of their love for one another. It took awhile, as Laev was a hard man to open up, but he realizes he loves Camiella, and now he must find a way to convince her to trust him.  Just when you thought nothing will bring them together again, Camiella’s life is in danger, and Laev must save her from sure death.  It was a very exciting ending, with suspense, violence, action, and a very wonderful conclusion to a great story.  Heart Search was a great romance, though intense at times, but overall had great characters, and I enjoyed it very much.
