REVIEW:WAITING ON THE RAIN is the third instalment in Claudia Connor’s contemporary adult MCKINNEY / WALKER BROTHERS cross-over romance series. This is forty-two year old, former US Army Ranger Luke Walker, and thirty-one year old, interpreter Ava Bennet’s story line. WAITING ON THE RAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines / series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Ava and Luke) WAITING ON THE RAIN follows the building relationship between forty-two year old, former US Army Ranger Luke Walker, and thirty-one year old, UN interpreter Ava Bennet. At his brother Zach’s wedding Luke Walker found himself drawn to a woman, a woman he believed had too much to drink but to Luke’s surprise, Ava Bennet was blind, not drunk, and was struggling to maneuver the minefield of bodies at the wedding reception. Unable to stop himself, recent US Army retiree Luke Walker asked Ava to dance, and found he was smitten. Working at his sister’s ranch aka the Freedom Farm, Luke would come face to face with the woman that was starring in his dreams but a woman whose past made her reluctant to fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ava and Luke, and the potential fall-out as Ava’s time in her home town comes with an expiry date.

Ava Bennet is hoping to spread her wings, working as an interpreter overseas but starting a relationship was never on the agenda, as she was only home during her father’s recovery. Meeting Luke Walker stirred something deep within our story line heroine, something she hadn’t felt for a very long time. Luke Walker wasn’t sure if he would survive having no set future after leaving the army. Helping his sister Hannah set up her Farm for people with disabilities gave our hero purpose but none more so than falling for a woman who struggled to let go of the past.

The relationship between Ava and Luke is one of immediate attraction but Ava continues to battle memories of the past, a past that destroyed her faith love and happily ever after. An independent and strong-willed heroine, Ava refuses to believe she is incapable of anything, except maybe driving a car ! Luke, for all his posturing, wants what his brothers and sister have, and he is hoping to find his forever in a woman who is quick to run when things go sideways. The Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line / series couples: Nick and Mia: Nora and Zach; Hannah and Stephen, as well as Ava’s brother Ryan and his wife Connie, their parents; Ava’s best friend Maddie, and her ex Blake .

WAITING ON THE RAIN is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is emotional and inviting; the characters are animated and dynamic; the romance is tender and seductive.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 15, 2019

When ER nurse Nora Sellers is hurt in a hospital scuffle, firefighter Zach Walker blames himself. Blaming himself is nothing new. He’s been blaming himself for years for the trauma his baby sister endured as a teenager. Though with his happy–go–lucky attitude no one would know it. He’s good at his job, he’s a good brother, and a good friend, but Zach decided long ago he wasn’t husband and father material.

Even so, when Zach learns Nora is a single mother with a house that needs his help, he can’t walk away. After a few days with Nora and her ten month old son, he knows he doesn’t want to.

But Nora’s wary. She learned at a young age that the only person she can count on is herself. Now with a baby, a job, and a fixer–upper house, the last thing Nora wants is a sexy firefighter, making her heart flutter. But Zach is more than what he seems, and the more she gets to know him the harder he is to resist.

She’s been brave all her life. Can she be brave one more time and take a chance of a lifetime with her heart?

REVIEW: WAITING FOR YOU is the fifth instalment in Claudia Connor’s contemporary, adult THE MCKINNEY BROTHERS (McKinney/Walker crossover) romance series. This is firefighter Zach Walker, and single mother/ER nurse Nora Sellers’ storyline. WAITING FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion. Zach is Nick’s brother (Worth the Wait #4), and Hannah Walker (Worth the Risk #2).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zach and Nora) WAITING FOR YOU follows the building relationship between firefighter Zach Walker, and single mother/ER nurse Nora Sellers. A freak accident in the ER found Nora Sellers struggling to look after her son, and the repairs at her new ‘fixer-upper’. Feeling guilty for the injuries incurred by our story line heroine, firefighter Zach Walker offered his services to help Nora with the big and little jobs around the house including help with her ten month old son Will. What ensues is the building relationship between Zach and Nora, and the potential fall-out as Nora’s past resurfaces bringing issues of trust back to the present.

Zach Walker doesn’t do relationships, and struggles with the what-ifs and whys. Meeting Nora Sellers gives Zach a hope for the future, a hope that will be dashed by Nora’s inability to let go of the past. Nora Sellers battles between head and heart as it pertains to letting Zach Walker into their lives. A single mother with no family of which to speak, meeting Zach and his extended McKinney/Walker family is more than Nora is able to handle.

The relationship between Zach and Nora is one of immediate attraction but Nora’s only concern is her ten month old son, a child whose only support system is our story line heroine. With only a week on the job, Nora will come face to face with her future, and the man who would steal her heart. Zach Walker knows he wants Nora Sellers but convincing Nora he is no longer the player she believes him to be, is a lot harder than expected. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Abby and Matt (Worth the Fall #1), Hannah and Stephen (Worth the Risk #2), Nick and Mia (Worth the Wait #4); several co-workers from the hospital ER, and Zach’s fellow firefighters, as well as in the introduction of Zach’s brother Luke.

WAITING FOR YOU focuses on family, friendship, brotherhood and love. The premise is entertaining, engaging and captivating; the characters are charismatic and spirited; the romance is seductive and flirtatious. WAITING FOR YOU is a wonderful and inviting story of romance and love.

Review:

Worth the Wait begins with the death of Nick Walker’s parents and the enormous responsibility he had to assume:  taking care of 4 siblings, one of whom is an adorable two year old, Hannah.  Determined to finish college and be the kind of guardian he knew his parents would want, Nick soon discovers that Hannah does NOT like to be separated from him.  Thankfully, his professors gave it a chance.  One day, as he was headed to his next class, he has a chance encounter with a young woman, Mia, who piques his interest immediately…..and Hannah’s.

As Nick and Mia’s friendship grows, he finally works up the nerve to take things to the next level, and to his relief, Mia is thrilled.  Both of them have a lot on their plate.  Nick is raising his siblings and going to college.  Mia is pre-med and knows that it will take everything the two of them have to make things work. Several years pass as they both work towards their goals, until one fateful day that will change everyone’s lives in the blink of an eye:  Hannah goes missing.  Days turn to weeks and no matter how hard Mia tries, Nick will not let her comfort him and has closed part of himself off to her.  What follows is an emotional journey that not only tears at the characters’ hearts, but the readers’ as well.

Worth the Wait is a nicely written story that intrigued me from the very beginning.  Nick Walker was immediately relatable and lovable.  The way he stepped in to take care of his siblings after the death of their parents will endear him to everyone.  His sense of honor knows no bounds, until that fateful day Hannah comes up missing.  During that portion of the story, I wanted to reach in and pop him upside of his hard head a few times.  Mia’s sense of family and her nurturing nature endears her as well.  The supporting characters are well written and have left me wanting to know more about their story.  Claudia Connor did a great job pulling the reader in.  Nick and Mia’s chemistry and commitment to each other was almost awe inspiring….almost.  Things fell apart so quickly once Hannah went missing, I found myself wondering if I’d missed something, some nuance of anything that would have led me to believe what happened to their relationship….  I eventually chalked it up to Nick not being mature enough to get past, or through, what happened.  Ten years passes before the two star crossed lovers meet up again and try to navigate their complicated feelings for each other.  Worth the Wait is ultimately a story about dealing with your past and coming to terms with “what was”in order to figure out “what can be”.  Well done, Claudia Connor!  Very well done!
