REVIEW: COLD SPITE is the fifth instalment in Toni Anderson’s contemporary adult COLD JUSTICE: MOST WANTED erotic, romantic suspense series, a spin off set in the author’s COLD JUSTICE series. This is FBI Agent Delilah Quinn, and thirty-four year old, FBI Hostage Rescue Operator Cas Demarco’s story line. COLD SPITE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Delilah and Cas COLD SPITE follows the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Approximately five years earlier, Agents Delilah Quinn and Cas Demarco went in undercover as a couple with the Mexican but a dirty agent threatened the investigation, and in doing so, targeted Delilah in the process. With the mission complete, Delilah and Cas returned home to have Cas push aside the woman with whom he had fallen in love. Fast forward to present day, Delilah believes she is being targeted by the same agent who threatened their investigation, and the only man she trusts is the man who broke her heart. Enter FBI Hostage Rescue Operator Cas Demarco. A killer is amassing a body count of people involved in the operation five years earlier, targeting family friends and direct encounters including threatening the lives of our story line couple. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Cas and Delilah, and the potential fall-out as their time together comes to a close.

The world building is detailed as the number of victims grows; the threats against Delilah becomes more personal, and the possibility of more than one betrayer working for the FBI.

The relationship between Cas and Delilah is one of second chances. Delilah fell in love with Cas Demarco while on assignment five years earlier but Cas pushed Delilah out of his life, choosing to enhance his career without Delilah by his side. Broken and having lost more than her heart, Delilah never want to rekindle her relationship with our story line hero but the only man she trusted is the man who broke her heart. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, charismatic and familiar secondary and supporting characters crossing over from the previous story lines in the Cold Justice: Most Wanted series, as well as several characters and agents from the author’s original Cold Justice series, and Cold Justice: Negotiators.

COLD SPITE : MOST WANTED is a story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, heart break and forgiveness, power and control. The premise is dramatic, intense and intriguing; the romance is impassioned ; the characters are struggling, determined, dynamic and desperate.

Fast forward to present day, Julius Leech, along with several other prisoners, has escaped in the wake of a prison transport accident, and anyone connected to Julius’ case is now a target of betrayal and revenge. At the top of the list is the now ADA Hope Harper, and the FBI has assigned a team of agents to protect our story line heroine. Enter FBI HRT Operator Aaron Nash, the man with whom Hope will fall in love but as the body count begins to amass, Julius Leech continues to control the narrative of his vengeance, pulling Hope Harper into his game of cat and mouse. What ensues is the protection of Hope Harper; the building relationship between Hope and Aaron, and the potential fall-out as secrets reveal a deeper betrayal that no one saw coming.

The world building is intricate and detailed as we are up close and personal with a killer, and a woman who is struggling with the loss of her family. Refusing to believe she is the target of Julius Leech, Hope tries and fails to decline the protection of the FBI but more so, in the face of her attraction to our story line hero.

The relationship between Hope and Aaron is trepidatious. Aaron refuses to cross the line, and Hope battles between head and heart as she continues to push away, not only Aaron, but the FBI HRT team. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters who play a significant and consequential role in the current time line including FBI agents Will Griffin, Seth Hopper, Sebastian Black, Cowboy, Livingstone and Cadell: attorney Jeff Beasley; Hope’s PA Colin Leighton; Julius Leech, his PA Blake Delaware, as well as several questionable characters surrounding Julius Leech.

COLD FURY is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, murder,madness, and obsession, family and relationships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is twisted and captivating; the romance is impassioned but subtle; the characters are determined and tenacious.

We are introduced to Zoe’s anthropological team (Karina,James and Fred), her ex boyfriend and USSS agent Colm Jacobs, as well as several of Seth’s team members including JJ Hersh, Meghan Donelly, and Ryan Sullivan. The requisite evil has many faces.

COLD DECEIT is a story of power and control, death and destruction, desperation and mistakes, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and proactive; the characters are energetic, determined and dynamic.

He placed a large palm over her forehead and she squinted up at him from under her lashes. 

He had the most perfect symmetrical features—strong jawline, high cheek bones, a full lower lip. And those eyes…which veered in color from a pale olive-green to light brown and were probably technically hazel. They looked way prettier than any other hazel eyes she’d ever seen. 

An unwanted quiver of awareness shot down her spine at the reminder of how attractive she’d thought he was when she’d first seen him at the motel about a thousand years ago. But, right now, he was examining her more like he thought she was a recalcitrant little kid with a fever.
