Description:
Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward.

Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away.

Now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and Bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. Perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but Bee could swear she can see Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. And the possibilities have all her neurons firing. But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there’s only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

Review:

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood is another one of her cute fun and sexy rom-com novels. We meet our heroine, Bee Konigswasser, who is a neuroscientist; who follows the life of Marie Curie (the mother of modern physics). Bee is considered a brilliant scientist, and is offered a job to co-lead a neuro engineering project, BLINK for NASA. BLINK deals with transcranial magnetic stimulations to work on for astronaut helmets! As excited as she is, Bee is not thrilled to be working with her old nemesis, who is the co-leader, but Bee knows she needs to put aside their past to be able to work together.

Levi Ward, our hero, is very cold when he sees Bee, as they were not friends at grade school; Bee always thought he hated her.  During Bee’s first day, she accidentally falls, and it is Levi who saves her; but now her equipment is not available, the people working for Levi are ignoring her. What is going on?  After a short period, Bee will learn from Levi that their overall boss did not want her be part of their project, as they wanted their success to be their own.  But with help from Levi, they do convince the boss, that they need Bee’s amazing neuroscientist’s ability.

A slow burn enemy to lover’s romance begins, as Bee learns that Levi never hated her back in the past; as his feelings were quite the opposite.  With each passing day, Bee sees Levi becoming an ally, backing her up, seconding her ideas to management; and the chemistry between them heats up. I really loved Bee and Levi together, as they made a great couple, with so much sizzling chemistry between them.

Love on the Brain was an interesting plot, with engineering and science working together; even though I did not understand a lot of what they were doing.  Which did not matter, as this a fun, cute romance, not to mention wonderful banter between our couple.  Some of the secondary characters were very good, and even at the end there were some surprising developments.

What follows is a fun, sexy and entertaining rom-com, with a fabulous couple, excellent secondary characters, great banter, as well as sexy.  Love on the Brain was so very well written by Ali Hazelwood. I wholly suggest you read Love on the Brain.

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson – a Review

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
The perfect summertime rom com with a bright, sparkling love story.

Sparks fly when Molly Prince’s puppy digs up the beachfront where marine biologist Max Miller is studying sea turtles. Max and Molly are instantly attracted to each other, but Molly thinks Max is a jerk andMax refuses to take Molly seriously in her job as the local aquarium’s mermaid. But when the puppy turns out to have the unique ability to sniff out sea turtle nests, she might bring Max and Molly close enough to help save the turtles, revive business at the struggling aquarium, and maybe even fall in love.

Review:

A Line in the Sand begins with Molly Prince and her dog, Ursula, at the dog beach.  She is visiting with Opal, Mavis and Ethel who are locals and reside at the Turtle Beach Senior Center.  While visiting, they see a stranger who is heading out into the water with the problem being swimming isn’t allowed past a certain point.  Molly heads down to the shore to warn the guy, who by now, has gotten in over his head…. literally.  Molly dives in and safely pulls the stranger to shore.

Max was fine one minute and the next thing he knew he was on his back on the beach looking up at a mermaid.  Still confused, he looks around to see a whole lot of things that don’t make sense: elderly women on walkers, a dog named Ursula, poodles……  He knew that Turtle Beach was always quirky, but this takes the cake.  Eventually, Molly (who works at the local aquarium as a mermaid) introduces herself and tells him not to swim in that particular area of the beach again.

Max, a marine biologist, eventually heads over to see the senior center’s newest resident, his Uncle Henry.  Max came to the island after quitting his job in the city’s National Aquarium.  He had put his heart and soul into that place and was up for a promotion……. that went to someone else.  Having had enough, and with his Uncle Henry not able to run the Turtle Beach Aquarium any longer, Max came “home”.  Trying to get information out of his Uncle Henry was like trying to herd cats, so Max sets out to do the best he can with the aquarium.

Once Max and Molly figure out whom the other is, misunderstandings abound (who wouldn’t want an adorable doggo named Ursala at work??) and Molly gets fired.  However, once the town finds out what happened, Max has no choice but to hire Molly back.  Come to find out, she more than ran the place, she was it’s very soul.  And, if he were being honest with himself, she was becoming a part of him as well.  If only he could stop stepping in it………

A Line in the Sand is a wonderfully written quirky story!  Molly is lovable and loyal.  Max was a bit of a work in progress, but you pull for him right from the beginning.  The chemistry between the two of them may not be scorching, but it is there simmering.   The secondary characters are amazing!  The residents of the senior center are LOL funny and full of surprises.  There are dogs everywhere, which is very endearing and just wait until Ursala saves the day!  I had no idea this was a series and look forward to going back and reading the first book and can’t wait for the next installment.  If you’re looking for a fun, sweet and quirky read, this one is for you!  Well done, Teri Wilson!  Very well done!

Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood – a Review

Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
It will take the frosty terrain of the Arctic to show these rival scientists that their chemistry burns hot.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn…

Hannah’s got a bad feeling about this. Not only has the NASA aerospace engineer found herself injured and stranded at a remote Arctic research station—but the one person willing to undertake the hazardous rescue mission is her longtime rival.

Ian has been many things to Hannah: the villain who tried to veto her expedition and ruin her career, the man who stars in her most deliciously lurid dreams…but he’s never played the hero. So why is he risking everything to be here? And why does his presence seem just as dangerous to her heart as the coming snowstorm?

Review:

Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood is the 3rd book in her The STEMinist Novellas series. Mara, Sadie and Hannah were best friends, with each being scientists in different fields; in Below Zero, Hannah is the lead. In the first two books, Hannah was sweet, but I did find her somewhat annoying early on in the book.

Hannah is an aerospace engineer for NASA, and she loves her job.  She met Ian, early on, discovering how hot he was; but all she wanted was sex, no dating, and Ian just stepped away; since he was interested in dating and getting to know Hannah.  Over the years, she runs into Ian a couple of times, and in her sexy dreams: but when she learns that he denied her major project, she is angrier than ever, meeting up with him to tell him off.  But her boss managed to get people to support her project, despite Ian’s claim that it was too dangerous.

There is no question that Ian was attracted to Hannah, but she wasn’t really nice to him, and because of that I did not feel the chemistry between them; at least until closer to the end.  When Hannah starts her project, she becomes injured during a storm at her remote station, unable to get out.  To her shock, the person who will come to rescue her is Ian; Hannah doesn’t understand why he would put his own life in danger for her.

What follows is a quick story line, that was a bit funny, somewhat zany, and at times fun.  I have enjoyed Ali Hazelwood’s previous full novels, but thus far I am not a fan of these novellas. Love on the Brain is the next full-length novel. If you like novellas, that are zany and fun, you should read Ali Hazelwood.

Description:
Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn…

Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leader—she’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.

Not even the most sophisticated of Sadie’s superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Erik’s steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed….

Review:

Stuck With You by Ali Hazelwood is a Steminist novella.  Sadie, our heroine, is a scientist, who works for a new firm producing safer products.  Within the same building, another firm is very successful, making things harder for Sadie and her boss.

One evening Sadie, met Erik and it turned into a one-night stand, which she learns the following day that he is one of the founders of the other company.  Sadie feels that Erik betrayed her, when she finds out they took one of their customers away; now Sadie hates Erik.  Three weeks later, both Erik and Sadie get stuck in the elevator, with Erik trying to convince her that he did not betray her, and Sadie slowly begins to feel her attraction to him

What follows is a quick story line, with POV’s switching back and forth from the one-night stand and them trapped in the elevator.  I have enjoyed Hazelwood’s previous novel, but not really feeling anything for this story, not to mention I thought Sadie was a bit weird, though I did like Erik. I also wasn’t crazy about the awful croissants that kept being brought up.  I will read the next novella in this series, and decide if I want to continue.  I did enjoy very much Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis.

Description:
Lola Landry stares through the window of her locked car with the keys in the ignition and the radio blaring Beck’s “Loser.” While standing there and sweltering in the soupy Tennessee humidity, she wonders how her orderly life had crashed and burned so badly. Then her high school nemesis saunters up in all of his tall, strapping, fireman-to-the-rescue glory, slapping her with the humiliating proof that it can always get worse.

When the uber-confident Jedediah Lawson requests a date in return for popping her lock, a lightbulb goes off. Revenge is sweet. He would make the perfect victim—guest, that is—for her next podcast episode on Kiss and Tell. What shocks her is the casual way he not only agrees to the post-date interview on air, but ends up hijacking her audience and wooing them with his swoony, southern charm. Not even a low score on the date-o-meter can dissuade the man or keep her fans from demanding more of the charismatic Jed.

What’s worse, she secretly wants a second date with this man who is so different from his teenage self. His unwavering patience and dimpled smile erodes her will, until she breaks the Kiss and Tell rules by agreeing to a second…and a third date. It’s a disaster. Not the date. They’re wonderful. The disaster is that she is falling for a man she once dubbed Jockstrap Jed.

Barb’s Review:
Parks and Provocation
by Juliette Cross is the 2nd book in her Green Valley Heroes series.  Lola Landry, our heroine, return home to Green Valley, after losing her job.  Lola is working at a restaurant and doing a Podcast (Kiss N Tell) with her bff, Marley. When she was filling up her gas tank and realized she locked herself out; someone from her past comes to her rescue.  Jed Lawson, our hero, is a firefighter and when he comes to her rescue, they are both in shock, when they recognize each other. Lola and Jed were nemesis to each other back in the school days, but everything is about to change.  Especially when Jed asks Lola out on a date, for payback after getting her car open.

Lola agrees to go out with Jed, if he will agree to be on her Podcast and discuss first dates. I really did enjoy the podcast, and thought her friend Marley was a riot.  It was a lot of fun, especially after a few more dates, the chemistry between them is scorching hot. I loved seeing how Jed would take her different places, and the banter between them was so much fun.  Jed was a hunk, but so sweet and swoon worthy, and I loved him from the start, and his determination to win Lola permanently.  Lola was a wonderful heroine, as she was sweet and fun, who found herself falling hard for Jed; but despite their steamy relationship, Lola was bent on leaving Green Valley and getting a good job.

What follows is a wonderful sweet romance, in a small town, with a fantastic couple that was destined to be together, as well the wonderful secondary characters.  We did root hard for them, despite some glitches along the way.  Parks and Provocation was a quick read that was well written by Juliette Cross.  I suggest you read this book, as it was a joy to read.

Sandy’s Review:

PARKS AND PROVOCATION by Juliette Cross is the second instalment in the contemporary, adult, multi-authored GREEN VALLEY HEROES erotic, romance series set in Penny Reid’s WINSTON BROTHERS world in Green Valley Tennessee. This is firefighter Jedediah Lawson, and marketing and communications director/ podcaster Lola Landry’s story line. PARKS AND PROVOCATION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lola and Jed) PARKS AND PROVOCATION follows the building romance and relationship between former high school frenemies firefighter Jedediah Lawson, and marketing and communications director/ podcaster Lola Landry. Ten years earlier Lola Landry left Green Valley Tennessee for bigger and better things but a disastrous PR campaign, and a company downsizing found Lola Landry crawling back to Green Valley, where she was currently working as a café waitress. Locking her keys in the car, Lola calls her best friend and fellow podcaster Marly for help, only to come face to face with her high school crush, and the boy that broke her heart and destroyed her self esteem. Enter fire fighter Jedediah Lawson, the man with whom Lola will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Lola and Jedediah, and the potential fall-out as Lola’s time in Green Valley comes to a close.

Jedediah Lawson has been in love with Lola Landry for as long as he can remember but something happened in high school, something Jed knew nothing about. A prom rejection, and a good bye hug left Jed feeling alone for close to ten years but with Lola’s return to Green Valley, Jed saw his opening for a second chance, a second chance that apparently came with an expiry date and another good bye. Lola Landry’s return to Green Valley was never in the plans but with her proverbial tail tucked between her legs, Lola accepted work at the local café while co-hosting a podcast about her attempts to reenter the world of dating. Reconnecting with Jedediah was completely unexpected, having no idea that Jedediah was now working and living in their mutual hometown.

The relationship between Lola and Jed is one of frenemies to lovers, a second chance of sorts, for two people who relationship never began due to misunderstanding, miscommunication, hurt feelings and low self esteem. Lola hopes she is only in town for a limited time, Jed is hoping for a happily ever after with the woman who ran away. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Lola’s best friend Marly; her parents Frank and Ellen, and Aunt Polly, as well as Jed’s father John Lawson, and Jed’s large extended family of siblings and kids.

PARKS AND PROVOCATION is a story of second chances; miscommunication and misunderstanding; family and friendships, relationships and love. The fast paced premise is engaging, entertaining and inviting; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the characters are spirited, sassy and energetic

“Fancy meeting you here,” he said when I finally reached him.
“Fancy that,” I sassed back.
I tried monumentally hard to force my eyes to behave, but they were currently mapping the extensive breadth of his chest without my permission. As a matter of fact, they’d found their newest obsession, tracking the descent of a drop of water that looped around his navel and froze midway down his happy trail.
“What brings you here, Cola?”
I jerked my gaze back to his mischievous grin, contemplating ways to torture my best friend.
I was also debating whether leaning forward and licking him would be inappropriate. “Um, learning fire safety?”
His bark of laughter and dimpled smile detonated somewhere inside my chest and melted my insides into warm goo. Which, of course, drew my attention to his beautiful mouth and the fact that he intended to kiss me with that mouth on our next date.
“Let me guess,” he finally said, amusement still prevalent in every word. “Marly?”
“So, I’ve been wondering if stretching her on a rack would be forgiven by local law enforcement. Do you think they’d give me a free pass, considering,” I waved my hand at him and the surrounding scene behind him, “all this?”
“By this, you mean dragging you to watch a dozen firemen strut around without their shirts on?”
“So y’all do know that half of Green Valley’s womenfolk are gawking at you from across the street, right? Only half of which are actual moms of the scouts? If that.”
He nodded and exhaled a sigh, but that wicked smile remained in place. “Chief McClure said it’s a local tradition, and the fine ladies of Green Valley also donate generously to our annual fundraiser, so we just do as we’re told.”
“Basically, this is a Magic Mike show, minus the actual lap dances, where you get your tips at a later time.”
He edged closer, my eyes betraying me once again to dip down along his beautiful body, realizing that delectable drop of water had slipped down into the holy land.
“I’ll give you a lap dance for free if you like, Lola.”

The Best Friend’s Guide to Taking Risks by Scott & Flockton

The Best Friend’s Guide to Taking Risks by Kadie Scott & Nicole Flockton

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Everyone knows that the biggest risk you can take with your best friend is to cross a certain line.

When it comes to relationships, Hunter Lancing is not a risk taker. Between his parents’ terrible divorce and his own bad decisions, he’s been burned. Computers make more sense to him. Everything has a rule. Everything is defined. Like his computers, his best friend is defined, constant, and comes with rules he won’t break.

Part-time children’s party princess Natalie Morgan dances to the beat of a drum no one else can hear. The only person who truly gets her and is never scared off by her sometimes zany ideas is Hunter. But she has a big problem. Natalie keeps having all these…feelings…for her bestie.

But on a weekend getaway, a game of risky dares and one-upmanship that was supposed to just be for laughs may just end up with both of them crossing the friend zone line.

Review:

The Best Friend’s Guide to Taking Risks by Kadie Scott and Nicole Flockton is a standalone novel. I do like a good friends to lovers read sometimes, and this one hits all the right spots.

Kadie Scott who also writes under the pen name of Abigail Owen ,who writes some amazing paranormal romances (which are some of my all time favourite books). Nicole Flockton is a new author to me, but I think I’ll be visiting her site to see what books she writes. The dual writing doesn’t always work for me, but in this case the reading is easy. Full of descriptions that have you visualizing the story as it unfolds.

Hunter has a well ordered life. After being burnt by previous relationships, it’s safter to have one night stands, that way his heart stays unharmed. The one thing he can rely on is his best friend Natalie, she’d never let him down or hurt him. And so he’d never cross that line (even though he’d thought about it!)

Natalie is just a joy to read, she reminds me of a fairy, spreading joy and glitter wherever she goes ? her job is also her company. She works as a Princess catering for parties, she makes her own costumes and gives it 110% she loves bringing smiles to the partygoers faces, what she doesn’t like is the put downs and snide comments some parents make!

A road trip puts the two characters together in a close environment, he’s looking at relocating to Texas, so a planned visit to the area he might move too seems like a good idea, the downside….. Natalie turns it into a a fun filled weekend with almost kisses and heated glances.

But can Hunter move Natalie out of the friend zone and into a lover he can have forever?

If you want a fun filled, feel good read, then you won’t be sorry if you grab this one. A friends to lovers story that will have you laughing at their antics and keeping fingers crossed for the princess to get her Prince. There is a little angst in here, but nothing worth a trigger.

Loved the karaoke and the dares these two made each other do. I also loved Natalie’s sisters (please can they have books too?) Can the two tell each other how they really feel? Or will they keep each other in the friend zone?

Kissing Games by Stefanie London – a Review

Kissing Games by Stefanie London – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Injured pro baseball player Ryan Bower has plenty of reasons for not sleeping. But thanks to a steamy romance novel that’s ignited the imaginations—and libidos—of pretty much everyone in Kissing Creek, Ryan’s kept awake by the sound of his parents. Having sex. Unforgivably gross. And Ryan is almost certain that the town’s adorably quirky and troublemaking librarian is responsible.

Sloane Rickman adores everything about her little town—with the exception of its very tall and infuriatingly sexy Golden Boy. Ryan Bower may be a ball-playing hottie, but where exactly does he get off telling her what books to recommend to her oddball little book club? Good thing he’s only in town for the fall.

Now Sloane and Ryan are stuck planning the main float for the town’s parade. But somewhere between arguments over paint colors and papier mâché flowers, their fights keep turning into red-hot kisses. And between Ryan’s demanding ball career and Sloane’s life in Kissing Creek, they face the biggest game of their lives…if they’re ready to play for keeps.

Review:

Kissing Games by Stefanie London is the second book in the Kissing Creek Series, and I loved it. It’s not necessarily essential to read the first book (they all stand on their own really well) but reading this book will have to trotting off to find the first book (which is a great read also ?) It has hilarious moments where I laughed out loud (a little inappropriate when your at work with headphones on) ? It’s also got a few moments where you just want to shake Ryan and tell him to sort himself out before he loses the best thing he’s ever had!

Ryan is home recovering from a sports injury, as soon as he’s healed he’s away from his hormonal parents (that had tears rolling down my face) in fact the whole town seems to be in the grip of something got and heavy! But at least it’s taking his mind off of his career, essentially he’s too old for baseball (professional level anyway) but he’s unsure where he’s heading, so he’s a bit of a grump at the moment!

Sloane is the local librarian at Kissing Creek, she loves it there. She loves the small town feel, and finally feels like she’s found a home she can settle and put down roots. Somehow these two characters are forced together to organise a float for the coming town parade. Ryan can’t think of anything worse! The banter between these two is such a joy to read, they bounce off of one another, and you’ll find yourself chuckling at odd moments. But if Ryan isn’t going to be here for much longer, then there is no point starting anything, is there?

If you love the small town Romance/ semi sporty feel romance then grab this book and be prepared to laugh through most of it. ?

April May Fall by Christina Hovland – a Review

April May Fall by Christina Hovland – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
April Davis totally has her life in order. Ha! Not really. Yes, she’s the Calm Mom—a social influencer with a reputation for showing moms how to stay calm and collected through yoga—but behind the scenes, she’s barely holding it all together. Raising tiny humans alone is exhausting, but that’s just the chewed-up cherry on the melted sundae of her life. Her kids aren’t behaving, her husband left her for his skydiving instructor, and her top knot proves she hasn’t showered in days.

Then a live video of the “always calm” April goes viral…and she’s most definitely not. Enter Jack Gibson, April’s contact at the media conglomerate that has purchased April’s brand. The too-sexy-for-his-own-good Jack will help clean up April’s viral mess, and even work with her to expand her influence, but toddler tea parties and a dog with a penchant for peeing on his shoes were definitely not part of the deal.

Now April’s calm has jumped ship quicker than her kids running from their vegetables. Not to mention, the sparks flying between her and Jack have her completely out of her depth. Forget finding her calm—April’s going to need a boatload of margaritas just to find her way back to herself again.

Each book in the Mommy Wars series is STANDALONE:
* Rachel, Out of Office
* There’s Something About Molly
* April May Fall
* Everything’s Fine, Emmaline

Review :

April May Fall by Christina Holland is the third book in her Mommy Wars series.  I’ve read and loved this series. This one though is my favourite so far. April is hilarious, Jack is smooth and a total hottie. Together with this author, you’ll laugh until something bursts?

April online is a super efficient mother. There is nothing she can’t do, and nothing she can’t advise you on….. But when the camera clicks off!! Then that’s a whole different story…..

Jack can put a spin on most things, and when he’s asked to help contain a viral leak (well more like an explosion) Jack thinks it’s going to be a walk in the park…..
This book was just so funny, the banter between the main characters was quick and had me chuckling out loud. The predicaments they would get themselves into had me both rolling my eyes and holding my sides. Throw in the kids and a few characters from previous books and you have a winning combination.

It is a slow burn romance that at times will have you shouting at the book/kindle. They fancy each other like mad, but neither will make a move…A hiccup in their relationship has the brakes firmly on, and at one point I did think the whole thing might derail!

Being a single parent can’t be easy, trying to support yourself and your kids must be a nightmare (and I applaud the single parent whether it be male or female) having your newly found confidence shattered because of a stupid video would have me scurrying for the chocolate tin! But April doesn’t give up, she might have a mini breakdown, but she’s made of stronger stuff.

This author has become an automatic click for my kindle, and I’m happy to recommend her books for a feel good vibe and a hearty chuckle at life.
