ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 8, 2013

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away. These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.

Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer. Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athlete’s fury. Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution. Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell

REVIEW: OFF THE RECORD is the third installment in the OFF SERIES by author Sawyer Bennett. Although this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. The premise surrounding the series is that of professional hockey players and the lives and loves, but to be honest, there is little to do with hockey except most of the leading men are hockey players.

Off The Record focuses on Linc Caldwell and Ever Montgomery. At a year end party for Linc’s team, magazine journalist Ever mistakenly gets the wrong impression about Linc and writes a scathing review about the athlete and his affinity for sex and women. To avoid a law suit, Ever must serve ‘time’ with Linc for six weeks-tailing and trailing everything he does. In this, Ever will learn that she has made a major error in judgment and will have to apologize before she loses both the man and her heart.

The writing style and character building are simple. There is nothing over the top. The storyline is a boy meets girl, girl gets angry, boy wants girl back. The world building brings together several of the previous storyline characters in cameos but their importance to the overall story is negligible although Off The Record does further both of the two previous storyline premises.

Ever Montgomery is a woman scorned –not once, not twice but three times-and therefore she wants to keep all men at a distance. Her personality and too quick to judge attitude left a little to be desired. Betrayal has left an open wound and she refuses to allow herself to get hurt –ever again- but in doing so, she comes across as bitter and angry. Linc must move slowly in order to not scare Ever away, but in doing so begins to lose himself in the woman who may or may not want a happily ever after. This story is told from two points of view, but the focus remains on Ever and the inner turmoil that threatens to overwhelm her perfect façade and her need to make things right with Lincoln Caldwell before she loses the man forever.

OFF THE RECORD is another interesting storyline that at one point I shed a tear. Although the overall story is not an emotional roller coaster ride there was a moment when it definitely pulled at my heart. The storyline is fast paced but the relationship is slow to build. There is very little tension; there is no angst between the couple only an overwhelming aura of past betrayal. Ever must purge her demons before she is able to move on. If you like a romantic storyline with a happily ever after-Off The Record is perfect for a lazy afternoon of reading.

Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation. It’s certainly the best way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.

When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms. He wants her in his bed, but he doesn’t want her in his heart

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: OFF LIMITS is the second installment in the new adult genre OFF series by Sawyer Bennett. Although this is part of a series, each book can be read as a stand alone with out any difficulty. A few of the characters from the first book are present but their back story and anything necessary to the current story are brought into play when necessary. This is Emily Burnham and Nixon Caldwell’s story.

Emily is from a well to do, politically connected family. Upon entering university she was determined to change her personality-so much so that when she selects a major (not connected to medicine or law) her mother pulls all financial support. Without following her mother’s demands Emily is on her own. But when she accidently runs over the brother of her latest journalism interviewee, she will become indebted to Nix Caldwell until the bill is finally paid. What she didn’t expect was a snarky, mean spirited, angry young man who will tug at her heart and her soul.

Nix Caldwell is a veteran of two tours in Afghanistan, who builds motorcycles and metal sculptures and, a man determined to keep everyone at a distance. But when he meets Emily he realizes he wants something more than friendship. To pay off her debt he arranges for her to help with his home and office, but over several days Nix will discover that Emily is something more-he is beginning to fall in love.

Off Limits is an interesting story of two people from different sides of the track. Emily is a child of privilege-a daughter who is expected to marry into money, make pretty babies and represent her husband in their affairs and Nix is the complete opposite of what and whom she is expected to marry.

As the storyline develops the reader is pulled into a relationship that begins as friends with benefits but one that will quickly evolve into something more. But when Emily uncovers a secret that Nix has hidden away, she will be pushed out of his life, possibly for good. And in the end, Nix will realize that Emily is the love of his life and if anyone can calm the nightmares and guilt, it is the woman who holds his heart with her own.

Off Limits is a predictable story where the embattled hero refuses to acknowledge his demons and a heroine who is willing to stand by her man. There is family friction from Emily’s side and heartbreaking sorrow when Nix’s history is revealed. His heart is heavy with guilt and the knowledge that he may lose Emily because of his behavior and perhaps his past. But like many warriors, his guilt and his PTSD must be addressed before he can ever conceive of starting a new life with the woman he loves and in the end his guilt is a manifestation of the atrocities of war.

The writing style is simple. There is nothing overwhelming or life altering about the premise but it is story of romance with a happily ever after. There is the angst and heartbreak of a broken hero who cannot forget the ravages of war; the love and care of a woman willing to support the man she loves and in the end, there is the couple, who together, want to take the next step in their lives- to start a family of their own.

With a chance meeting, their vastly different worlds collide, causing each to evaluate whether they are truly on the correct path to self-fulfillment and happiness. Can their relationship survive? Particularly when others are against them every step of the way. A lot can happen in just ten short days…

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: OFF SIDES is the first installment in Sawyer Bennett’s OFF series focusing on the men of professional hockey and the women they love. Off Sides is a short story that introduces the series but remains focused on the leading couple –Ryan Burnham and Danny Cross. Danny is a struggling part-time college student trying to make ends meet and Ryan is the epitome of rich, successful jock from a well to do family with political aspirations. But life isn’t always greener on the other side. Ryan’s mother is all about appearances and Danny does not fit into the family plans.

The storyline follows Ryan and Danny as their relationship blossoms over several days. Enter the ex-girlfriend who cannot take no for an answer and we soon discover that Ryan’s mother has plans for her son. Ryan’s family is a study in dysfunctional family values and his only means of escape is to walk away into the arms of the woman he loves.

Off Sides is a story of rich boy/poor girl, class structure and the ability to walk away when the pain becomes too much. The storyline is told from two alternating POVs. But something about this particular storyline did not sit well with me. Perhaps it was the overall feel to the story or some of the characters including Ryan’s mother, ex girlfriend and fellow team mate were complete and utter evil. Perhaps it was the rushed feel of the relationship –zero to love – in 48 hours or perhaps it was the heroine’s continuous internal verbiage about losing her virginity to Ryan Burnham. Both leading characters are strong and independent and willing to step out side of their comfort and class. Ryan is not someone who bows to the demands of his mother or ex girlfriend; and Danny is not a woman willing to stand by and take verbal or emotional abuse from those who believe money talks. But in the end, Danny will walk away because money and power are all about control.

I read this series out of order-in fact-Off Sides was the 3rd storyline I read and for me OFF THE RECORD (#3) and OFF LIMITS (#2) are much better stories with well-rounded characters and a more interesting premise.

But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: CONNECTED is the first storyline in the contemporary romance duet series Connections by Kim Karr. Connected focuses on Dahlia London, a twenty something woman who has suffered terrible loss and heartache. When she is finally able to take those first tentative steps back into the real world she will come face to face with the man she felt a connection to several years before. He is her soulmate and the man to whom she will forever be connected.

River Wilde is NOT the epitome of the bad boy/rocker dude: he has eyes for only one woman and that woman disappeared from his life; she is his muse and the woman who stole his heart. Their first meeting was quick but emotionally powerful and one that neither River nor Dahlia has ever forgotten. River is the perfect mate-he is strong, protective, loving, romantic and for a musician, he is a one-woman man. Almost too good to be true, but in Connected, he is the ideal boyfriend, fiancé and friend.

The novel flash forwards in several spots to move the storyline along, which can be disconcerting for some readers but was required to show the passage of time. The attraction between River and Dahlia is instant and the sexual tension is strong. The relationship is loving; there is never any thoughts of betrayal or mistrust, but you know that in the end something will go wrong and the story epilogue ends on a cliffhanger that I for one suspected. There were a few hints throughout the story that led me to believe that the couple’s happily ever after was too good to be true, and the ending will bring the storyline full circle.

Kim Karr has written an emotional and engaging love story that at times will break your heart and put a smile on your face. Book 2 TORN is set for release in October 2013. Let’s hope she can bring happiness to everyone concerned because I for one do not like to see anyone walk away with a broken heart.

A single visit to Mustang Ridge can change a person’s life in the most unexpected ways….

Recovering from a difficult divorce and having problems with her daughter, Shelby accepts a summer job cooking at a family-run dude ranch. She hopes the animals will be just what her daughter, Lizzie, needs. Little does she know that ranch life will work some healing magic on her too.

When Shelby meets the head wrangler, Foster, she is put off by his brusque nature, but Lizzie takes an instant liking to the cowboy and his horses. While both Foster and Shelby have been scarred by love, it’s not long before Shelby is drawn to the rugged cowboy and his thoughtful ways.

But with summer nights in short supply and Foster wary of falling for a city girl, a simple summer romance soon grows complicated. As the days dwindle, Shelby will have to decide not only what is best for her daughter, but also where her future—and her happiness—will be found

Review:

Summer at Mustang Ridge by Jesse Hayworth is the first book in her Mustang Ridge series.  There actually is a novella released last month that opened this series. The Mustang Ridge series is Contemporary Romance, and I totally fell in love with the characters at Mustang Ridge.

Summer at Mustang Ridge heroes are Shelby and Foster.  We meet Shelby immediately as she is driving with her daughter heading for Mustang Ridge Ranch for the summer.  She is going to work as a chef; but mostly Shelby is using this trip in hope that the animals on the ranch will be just the thing to help her daughter, Lizzie, overcome her issues of not communicating.

Foster is the head man with the horses, not to mention a hunk.  But Foster is not interested in any kind of relationship, even with the ladies fawning over him.  When he meets Shelby, especially after seeing Lizzie with her, he feels some attraction. In a short period, both Shelby and Foster will become an item, but both having had bad experiences previously, agree this is just a summer fling.

Though the romance is a big part of this story, and it is a very nice romance, with two couples you love, and want them to end up together; but there are other stories that make this book a step above most romance books.  There is no mystery or suspense here; just simply a book that is a joy to read.  Lizzie’s problem, which everyone at Mustang Ridge, tries to help, is a major part of the story.  Then we meet some of the characters at Mustang Ridge that I totally adored.  Hayworth does a wonderful job creating realistic and great characters. I loved Gran, who does all the cooking and Shelby works with her.   The granddaughter, Krista, who helps run the ranch, was another wonderful character.  Then we had a couple of ranch hands, such as Stace, who worked with Foster to help Lizzie.

Shelby was a wonderful heroine, working hard and almost becoming a member of the family, as well as her love for her daughter, and her reactions for each step she takes.  She finds herself falling for Foster, even though they promised no strings attached. I loved Foster, as he was a great hero, who showed so much compassion for Lizzie, and was so hot with Shelby.  It was great to see their relationship grow, and sad when the obstacles were in the way.

I will not give any spoilers, just say that this was a wonderful book to read.  I did not want this to end.  I am happy that Jesse Hayworth will continue this series with some of the characters we have met and learned to love at Mustang Ridge.  If you are looking for a fun, and wonderful romance, look no further then Summer at Mustang Ridge.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 29, 2013

Winning the next fight will mean nothing . . . if he can’t win back the heart of the woman he loves. . .

Five years ago Dylan Gomez had it all. He was an up-and-coming boxer with a loving girlfriend, and his sights were set on the big league. Then he let the hype of the fans inflate his ego—he thought he was invincible. That all changed when an alcohol-fueled decision altered the course of his life. He lost his girlfriend and then bit-by-bit his life crumbled around him.

Physical therapist, Regan Holloway, has coasted through life for the last five years. She’s been in the same place all that time and most of her things are still in boxes. Agreeing to a “friendly” date with a co-worker, she ends up ringside and face-to-face with the man she’d fled to forget—Dylan.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: AGAINST THE ROPES is the latest contemporary romance short story from Carly Fall. Approximately 135 pages in length, Against The Ropes is a novel about second chances, forgiveness and saying goodbye.

Five year ago, Dylan Gomez and Regan Holloway were a couple-but fame, a cocky-attitude, alcohol and wrong choices would send Dylan spiraling out of control, losing the woman that he loves and eventually his freedom. But a chance at reconciliation with Regan, will find Dylan a different man. Hoping to prove himself worthy of her love, Dylan tries one more time to be a contender both in and out of the boxing ring.

The sexual relationship between Dylan and Regan has already been established as the couple is well known to each other but a history of betrayal and thoughts of forgiveness will find Regan contemplating whether or not to risk loving a man who has yet to prove he has changed. But over the course of a few weeks, Dylan and Regan will be pushed together by a mutual friend who knows that what Dylan and Regan need is each other.

There are a few secondary characters, especially Dylan’s manager and substitute father Max who keeps Dylan on the straight and narrow, and it is Max who will be the proverbial match-maker when he sees something in Dylan and Regan that both were too stubborn to admit. To love someone means to forgive but forgetting will be a much harder thing to do.

The character development is thorough considering the relatively short length of the novel, but since the characters already knew each other there was none of the push and pull of a new relationship-only the rebuilding of trust and love. The world building was minimal as most of the storyline focused on the characters and their relationship to one another.

Carly Fall has written a romantic, heartwarming and endearing storyline of forgiveness and love. To forgive someone for, not one but two past transgressions, takes a much stronger person than many of us ever hope to be but the storyline scenario demonstrates that not only can we forgive but we can love again. There are a couple of moments of heartbreak and loss, but the HEA is well deserved and one that we can all aspire to in our own lives.

DOWN LONDON ROAD (On Dublin Street #2) by Samantha Young

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 7, 2013

Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she’s about to meet someone who will make her lose control….

It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may—or may not—fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: DOWN LONDON ROAD is the second storyline in the contemporary romance series On Dublin Street by Samantha Young. Although this is the second novel in the series, and most of the characters from the first storyline are present and play secondary roles in this particular novel, Down London Road can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. There are a few references to events from On Dublin Street, but Samantha Young blends the information so that the reader is not totally lost and grasping for purchase.

From the outset, we learn that our heroine Johanna is a down on her luck, hard working twenty something woman who knows what it is in life she wants. Working two jobs to support her alcoholic mother and younger brother, Johanna has made some poor choices when it comes to the men in her life. Looking to escape the poverty and lower class stigma, Johanna’s relationships have all been with men who are no strangers to money, wealth and prestige. But at a recent art exhibition with her boyfriend Malcolm, Johanna will be introduced to Cameron MacCabe, who is more than willing to call it like he sees it. And to complicate matters, her best friend sees through Johanna’s relationship choices and the men in her life, as well. And it doesn’t help when Johanna’s lack of self-esteem takes everything Cam says to heart.

Cameron was and is a giant a$$ through much of the storyline until he accidently discovers the truth behind Johanna’s troubled life both present and past but that does not excuse his behavior and lack of respect towards the woman with whom he is falling in love. With both Cam and Johanna in relationships with other people, part of the storyline is spent with the couple dancing around each other’s attempts to ignore the elephant in the room. Their attraction to one another is immediate, the sexual tension is tight, but Johanna has a hard time forgetting that Cam equates her to a whore who will spread her legs for money-every time.

Johanna has spent much of her life protecting her younger brother Cole ensuring that he is safe, fed and loved. Sacrificing her own education, we learn about the hardships and struggles befalling Johanna throughout her life and she is reluctant to ask for help fearing rejection and a broken heart; but there will come a point when she finally needs help, and true to her belief, betrayal and heart break will follow. I shed a few tears at this point, knowing how badly damaged her already fragile self-esteem had developed, but to come face to face with her worst nightmare, only made the trauma that much more painful. This is a contemporary romance storyline, so a happily ever after will follow but not before some damage and issues of trust must be addressed.

There is one soul who deserves a HEA and I am hoping Samantha Young will give Malcolm a chance at love. He did not deserve to lose the woman with whom he was falling in love, but if not for that, there would not have been a story.

DOWN LONDON ROAD is a well-written, sometimes heartbreaking story of betrayal, struggle and the ability to overcome a painful past. But when the past comes face to face with the present, there is both an emotional and physical struggle that will pit the power of love against hatred and betrayal. If you love a storyline with an emotionally fragile but strong heroine, Down London Road will not disappoint. The reader will be pulled into a world of pain, sorrow, betrayal, heartbreak and above else, the ability to overcome a past fraught with abuse to find love where least expected.

Excerpt

Excerpt from Down London Road by Samantha Young. Copyright May 2013.

I let myself quietly into the dark flat and slipped my heels off, tip¬toeing down the hall to Cole’s room first. I cracked open his door and from the light spilling in under his curtains I could make out his head buried nearly all the way under his duvet. The worry I always felt for him eased a little now that I could see with my own eyes that he was safe and sound, but that worry never ever completely disappeared— partly because parents never, ever stopped worrying about their kids and partly because of the woman who slept in the room across the hall from him.

A Seal’s Seduction by Tawny Weber-a review

A SEAL’S SEDUCTION (Uniformly Hot SEALs #1) by Tawny Weber-a review

A Seal's Seduction

FREE at:  Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Barnes and Noble / KOBO

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release January 2013

Navy SEAL Blake Landon (aka “Boy Scout”) knows the rule book inside and out. Checked. Rechecked. But when a mission ends badly, his entire team is ordered on leave. And that’s when Blake sees the tall redhead whose dark eyes suggest that the rules-especially those in bed-are made to be broken.

Scientist Alexia Lane has sex on the brain-partly for work, but mostly because she needs a man who makes her girly parts do the happy dance. Her only no-no? No military dudes. But Blake’s rockin’ bod promises delicious pleasures, and Alexia is halfway to sexual Nirvana before she can find out he’s actually a Navy SEAL.

And where one rule is broken, more are sure to follow….

REVIEW: A SEAL’S SEDUCTION is the first installment in Tawny Weber’s UNIFORMLY HOT SEALs contemporary romance series. This is Blake and Alexia’s story. The premise focuses on Blake’s two week R & R and Alexia’s need to get out and have a good time. But when the two of them meet, sparks fly and a one-night stand turns into something more. But when Alexia discovers that Blake is a Navy SEAL under the command of her father, she walks away leaving Blake with a broken heart.

The storyline and conclusion are predictable as are all contemporary romance storylines. You have the instant attraction and sex, the angst and betrayal, and finally the reconciliation between the couple you know belong together.

The characters are flawed: each has issues they must deal with before embarking on a relationship. Alexia’s relationship with her family is strained, due in part to a controlling father and her need to prove herself worthy. But her attitude at times was a little disheartening-the only person, to whom she felt any love, was her brother and he too, had some issues at home. I am not sure if you would consider the adult children –Navy Brats- but there were definitely some dysfunctional family problems.

Blake is the consummate professional SEAL. His relationship with Alexia and her subsequent rejection left him distraught and angry. But eight months after Alexia walks away, their lives will take a dramatic turn, and they will be thrown together for another night of passion and love. But it is Alexia’s mother who will open Alexia’s eyes and heart to the possibility that love with a professional military man is worth the heartache and worry when at the end of the day, she will be loved and cherished.

A SEAL’S SEDUCTION is a quick paced storyline with a little action, a little romance, a little sex and a little family drama. The emotional connection between the hero/heroine lacked a little something, but overall the storyline is a welcome reprieve from the usual paranormal stories. If you are looking for a quick read with a happily ever after, A Seal’s Seduction is the perfect escape.

The Winemaker's Dinner Desserts

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 30, 2013

Left on bended knee, with nothing but a ring in his hand and a gaping hole in his chest, Ivan Rusilko lost everything when Jaden Thorne said, “I can’t.”

Now, six months later and despite her endless attempts to reach him, finding forgiveness for Jaden’s indiscretion is last on his list of things to do. Dr. Ivan is married to his career now, and his professional success is taking him places he’s never been before. But even the glow of accomplishment can’t heal his devastated heart. Determined to recover, to move forward at any cost, he now finds moments of respite in distractions that leave him emotionally bankrupt. He’s empty, a shadow of his former vibrant, life-loving self. On the outside, he may seem to be the man he always was. But inside, a terrible desire threatens to rip him apart and ruin him forever.

Meanwhile Jaden is haunted by the memory of the moment she saw the light wither and die in Ivan’s eyes. She knows it died at her hand. After months of trying to explain herself, of begging for mercy, she takes herself back to Miami, back into Ivan’s path, for one last chance at redemption. Can she entice him back into her arms? Convince him to give her a second chance? She’s determined to do whatever it takes to find forgiveness—even if all that’s left is forgiving herself.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: The Winemaker’s Dinner: Dessert is the final installment in the trilogy of the same name. The previous two storylines were co-authored by Ivan Rusilko and Everly Drummond, but with Desserts, Ivan has gone solo and endeavored to bring about a resolution to the previous storyline’s heartbreaking ending. As well as emotionally bankrupt, Ivan ‘s character must question his morals when he seeks to satiate his internal demon’s need for sex and retribution against the woman who broke his heart.

TWD: Dessert continues six months post break-up and follows Ivan as he searches for something or someone to dull the pain of betrayal but an invitation to dinner by an old flame puts Ivan face to face with the woman he was hoping to forget. When the not-so-deeply-buried feelings resurface, Ivan and Jaden give it one more try, but thoughts and images of betrayal once again find themselves front and center in their lives.

TWD: Dessert delves deep into the psyche of a man pushing the proverbial envelope of sexual promiscuity as well as personal failure. It is a storyline that is slightly darker than the previous two installments as the leading character fights and looses an internal battle over and over again. Much of the storyline content focuses on Ivan’s struggle to quell the anger and emotional upheaval of the betrayal he believed Jaden brought into their lives.

The Winemaker’s Dinner: Dessert is the conclusion to a journey that began a few years ago with an idea-an idea to tell the story about a man’s struggle to find love with one woman, only to lose that love and perhaps the woman, in the end. Although smooth in his approach, the character of Ivan is enveloped in a deep-seated anger and looks for an outlet to satisfy the beast. At times, his internal dialogue almost verges on obscene, especially when he views his sexual encounters as nothing more than an outlet for his needs. Although it takes ‘two to tango’, there is still something to be said about a man looking for ‘love’ in all the wrong places. All I kept thinking was…This man earns his living promoting sexual health but it seems to be the last thing on his mind when the ‘demon’ wants control.

Fans of The Winemaker’s Dinner series will see a different side to the man they have grown to love and admire. And like all romance storylines, there is a resolution and a healing of sorts, when the truth about what happened is finally revealed. A happily ever after is not that far from the horizon. Dean fights to shield Liv from the hostility, but for the first time, Liv resists her white knight’s defense. Her newfound resolve clashes with Dean’s desperate need to protect her.

REVIEW: ALLURE is the second storyline in Nina Lane’s contemporary romance Spiral of Bliss series that continues the journey of Dean and Liv as they struggle to overcome jealousy, betrayal and a painful past. ALLURE furthers the couple’s spiral into a world fraught with loss, love and the potential to lose everything. Just as their lives take an unexpected turn, a family crisis will see Dean and Liv embarking on a journey that will end with a loss from which one or both may never overcome.

The storyline, once again, blends the past with the present by way of flashbacks, recollections and memories but the majority of this particular storyline is told from Dean’s POV. The reader is pulled into the drama of family betrayal when what everyone sees on the outside, does not come close to the truth underneath. We learn the heartache of pain and sorrow as Dean’s family refuses to accept the woman that he loves as well as the continuous animosity between siblings and parents that threaten an already fragile peace. Dean’s past will resurface with a connection to his family, but his need to protect Liv from further exposure will only force the couple to take a hard look at where they are going-together.

As their lives continue to spiral out of control, the ugliness and brutality of a vengeful student will further Dean and Liv’s already tentative hold on their relationship. But it will be Liv who makes the ultimate sacrifice when she tells Dean what he has to do, and in doing so, may lose the man in whom she loves.

Once again, Nina Lane pulls the reader into an emotional journey of one couple’s struggle to keep the pain at bay, as the walls around them begin to crumble. The romance is sensual and sexual as the couple endeavors to rediscover each other following a heartbreaking separation but sex is not always the answer at the end of the day. Dean’s need to protect his wife from himself and his past, will test the boundaries of their love when Liv asks Dean to let go of the painful memories that threaten to overwhelm him at every turn.

Nina Lane has written a storyline of one couple’s struggle against the realities of life-from betrayal to trust, heartbreak and sorrow, love and lost to the realization that everything you ever needed may be only a few feet away or lying next to you on the bed. Dean and Liv’s relationship is not perfect-it is flawed in ways similar yet different from most. They suffer painful rejections and losses and, like the real world, will be tested at every turn. Their story broke my heart and left me in tears, and I am hoping for a HEA in book 3-AWAKEN.
