Review:

The Duke’s Dove by Lauren Smith is a lovely novella for Christmas! What a perfect love story for the Christmas season.

Nathan Powell, Duke of Hastings was in love eight years ago. However, he wasn’t quite the Duke then. His father said no when he told him he wanted to marry Theodosia Swann. His father threatened to ruin Mr. Swann and his family if he wasn’t obeyed. So, Nathan had to break his own heart as well as that of the only love he’d known.

Eight years later, he planned to attend a ball at the home of an old friend. He didn’t do social things much, but it was almost Christmas and he couldn’t turn down the invitation. He’d make Thea promise him years ago that she’d forget him and find love again, living a happy life he couldn’t give her. He assumed she’d kept her promise, and she was too lovely not to, or so he thought.

When the inevitable happened and they met again, it was as if time had stood still. He loved her so much and couldn’t help himself.

Pick up a copy of this lovely read and enjoy yourself immensely. What a wonderful story to cuddle up with for an evening. Author Lauren Smith has done it again, just in time for the holidays.

Review:

Never Tempt a Scot is the latest in the series The League of Rogues by author extraordinaire, Lauren Smith. This is the story of highlander Brodie Kincade and Ms. Lydia Hunt. It’s a well-paced adventurous story involving kidnapping, elopements, double romance, and much more.

I count Lauren Smith among my favorite authors. Her series The League of Rogues is also a favorite on my reading lists. Her ability to spin a wonderful story with twists and turns is second to none. This lovely healing story is not an exception to that ability.

Brodie Kincade is one of the Kincade brothers from a previous episode. Their father was a brutal man who beat his children and said awful things to his wife. The wife died and the children were left to be raised by their brutal father. Most of the children have scars both physical and mental. He has three brothers I believe, and a sister. His oldest brother inherited the family title when their father passed away. However, all but Brodie and Aiden have married successfully and have loving relationships. Brodie fears he’s more like his father than the others and that he can never marry and subject a woman to that life. He just doesn’t trust himself.

Lydia Hunt is the older sister of Portia Hunt. Lydia notices Brodie at a ball, as well as her sister, and thinks he’s wildly handsome. Portia is young, totally reckless, and impatient. She incredibly spoiled by their widower father. Portia connives to have her father kidnap Brodie Kincade by telling him she’s with child (a lie) and that she’s in love with Brodie. In truth, she’s only briefly spoken to him, but being the spoiled child, she thinks every man is in love with her. The father and Portia hire men to drug and abduct Brodie and store him in a bedroom of their house. When Portia and the father are out at dinner, Lydia finds out what they’ve done and goes up to cut Brodie loose. He, mistakes her for Portia and kidnaps her at knifepoint and takes her away for revenge. She tries to tell him she’s not Portia, but he was too drunk and then drugged to remember clearly.

Okay, that’s the basic setup. I won’t do any further spoilers. This is just too wonderful of an adventure and romance. You really must read this for yourself. The conversations are wonderful, the suspense and surprises are aplenty. There’s so much more to this story, but it’s something you will enjoy reading more than being told about it. There are more tales in this one than the two people falling in love….just read it.

Author Lauren Smith is a master at weaving wonderful stories and this one full of twists and turns. Grab a copy, but don’t forget the tissues!

As the train rolls through snowy English countryside, she starts to wonder if Oliver may be the Christmas gift she’d been secretly hoping for.

Review:

Just in time for Christmas! Seducing an Heiress on a Train is a heartwarming Victorian Christmas story about finding real love in the midst of disaster. Lauren Smith, author of this marvelous tale has given everyone a real gift.

Now you all know I don’t do spoilers, and this is a quick novel, so I’ll give you the set up and let you know what I found so wonderful.

This is the story of Viscount Oliver Conway and an American heiress Rayne Egerton. It’s set in London 1888.

Viscount Conway (Oliver) has been trying to save his family from financial ruin after his father’s death. His father’s investments went bankrupt, leaving them owing a small fortune to pay off the debts and save their estate. There is no way for Oliver to find the funds to do that except for marrying an heiress, something he’s loathe to do. He wants a love match and a family like the one his mother and father had before things went wrong. However, to save his family, Oliver has set his mind to swallow his pride and do just that. They have a neighbor, Adelaide Berwick, daughter of Lord Berwick, and she’s always wanted to marry Oliver. Her dowry would definitely save their estate. However, she’s been a spoiled and cruel brat the whole time they’ve known her, and no one wants to have her around.

Rayne Egerton is an American and her father is in the oil and steel business. He has an enormous amount of money and would love to make a good match for his daughter. However, he also knows his daughter hates anything to do with fortune hunters. She wants to be loved for who she is rather than her father’s money.

They meet by accident at Mrs. Poole’s ball. Oliver went to the library to dodge Miss Berwick and having to propose for just a little while. Rayne was there to cool off after having had an argument earlier with Miss Berwick. Both are looking for solace and a quiet place to get their bearings. They both sneak into the library for a bit of respite at exactly the same time. Sharing the room to hide they talk and grow entranced with each other. Neither knows the other’s name or circumstances. They are so entangled already, and neither has a clue.

Later that night, Oliver’s sister told him about Rayne Egerton, the American heiress and about meeting her. She told him Rayne’s plans to visit Lord Fraser’s house in Scotland, the same party they were headed for in a few days. Oliver arranges to change his ticket and be on the train with Rayne. And the game is afoot!

This is a wonderful and light story that would make an excellent gift for those friends who love Victorian romance. Of course, it’s also a great gift for yourself to keep your heart fluttering!

The characters are well crafted, and you learn to love them all. The way it all works out is endearing and delightful. It’s an uplifting story and just in time for the holidays! Congratulations to author Lauren Smith for another magnificent story to fall in love with.

The Smuggler’s Escape by Barbara Monajem – a Review

Amazon

Feisty, resourceful, and determined to make her own way, she takes over the local smuggling operations, doubling their profits. But when their plans are betrayed, a man from her past steps out of the shadows to save her. Too bad he’s the last man on earth she ever wanted to see again.

Years ago, Richard, Lord Boltwood’s, plan to marry Noelle was foiled when his ruthless father shipped him to the Continent to work in espionage. But with the old man at death’s door, Richard returns to England with one final mission: to catch a spy. And Noelle is the prime suspect.

Noelle is determined to finish the smuggling run and escape back to France. She needs Richard’s help to do it, but how can she ever trust the man who abandoned her? And how can Richard catch the real culprit while protecting the woman who stole his heart and won’t forgive him for breaking hers?

Review:

*Rubs hands together and smiles* Alrighty, well this was a first time read for this author, Barbara Monajem and she sure didn’t disappoint. Spies, action, love and a good funny thrown in for good humor, this book is sure to excite just about any reader.

Noelle is a fiery, passionate and self-determined woman that tugs at the heart strings, and Richard, well he’s hard to not love on sight. Two polar opposite people come together to find so much more than what they were looking for. Noelle a spy, and Richard a government official, two people that seems to be the worst of enemies but turn into something more.

Now, I will be honest, at the end of this book, I was almost happy for it to be over, the story is great, and the characters even more so, but the story itself seems to drag on when it does not need to. Not to say that the book was bad, because it was not, I found myself caught up in the funny moments, and the interesting characters, but sometimes, less is more.

I very much enjoyed the action, suspense, humor and romance of this author, she will be one I look forward to reading again for sure!

Each book in the Highland Pride series is STANDALONE:
* Highland Deception
* Highland Redemption
* Highland Temptation
* Highland Salvation

Review:

Can genuine happiness be achieved even though you may have fibbed to get there in the first place? Surprisingly, BOTH of our heroes aren’t being 100% forthcoming, so let’s call it a draw, shall we? Highland Salvation by Lori-Ann Bailey is book 4 in her Highland Pride series. I’m not usually one to go out of order, but Finlay and Blair were strong characters and the book was easy enough to follow. The secondary cast was full of charming characters — do read from the very beginning for optimum joy!

England and Scotland are in political and religious turmoil, feuding over the rule of King Charles. Finlay Cameron and Blair McNab are devout subjects, but Blair’s father’s loyalty is rumored to “bend with the favorable winds”. When Blair and Finlay wed hastily, their nuptials are naturally met with trepidation.

“…it was the prudent decision for his clan, country, and king. She was a Royalist, and it would be a good match for the Camerons and King Charles if their union could keep the McNabs from joining the Covenanters.”

Not exactly swoon-worthy, but let’s put a pin on that for now. Aside from the sudden marriage, trouble abounds. A blackmailer is in pursuit of Blair, but she’s hesitant to lean on her new husband out of paranoia, or the very real fear of being sent away. En route to England (the king must be apprised of escalating threats), events meant to impede their purpose intensify, casting a suspicious light on Blair. She IS the only newcomer. So much for the honeymoon phase! ;D

Unconventional as it might have been, Finlay was determined to court Blair, inspired to make her a satisfied partner. Not to shame Finlay, but his desire to win over Blair was just precious. As a warrior, he’s not supposed to wonder (fret!) if a woman is interested, but this lass was special and Finlay’s anxiety to please her was a palpable, endearing sentiment. Finlay is pure of heart and Blair appreciated that from early on, but she couldn’t burden him with her secret so soon. So yes, they were both uneasy; is he enough for Blair, is her past going to ruin their future? Hardly uncommon for such an auspicious beginning, lol, but instead of allaying their fears or concerns with each other, aka good ‘ol communication, assumptions began to undermine/negate the progress they were making. Trust is earned, a back-and-forth is expected, but niggling doubts resurfacing at 86% into the book and they’re not on the same page yet?!

You know how you have to accept premises/plots, and just “go with it”, otherwise you can’t enjoy it? ME. Honest communication wasn’t just elusive, we’re talking elephant-in-the-room kind of oversight. Our H/H were intimate several times, no complaints here, but they never discussed a serious issue that hounded them both — that we the readers knew! It started to wear on me, to be honest, because they were face-palm moments; moments too incredulous not to discuss.

I like how Highland Salvation played out, a wee too rushed at the end, but I cried out for heart-to-hearts — speak your truths! Blair and Finlay may have settled for each other initially, one out of protection and the other to flee a blackmailer, but they defied the odds and became each other’s saving grace.

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren – a Review

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes / Google Play / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single.

So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic.

But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine” and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship…but Millie can’t resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best friend, forever.

Review:

My Favorite Half-Night Stand is my third exploration into the amazing duo that is Christina Lauren. Millie and Reid are best friends who partake in a bit of liquid courage and cross the line, at least for the half-night, into lovers. While thrilling, even better than they imagined, it was an itch to scratch, and the friendship just isn’t worth jeopardizing. Riiiight…that’s hardly a solid foundation…said no one ever, ?.

What ensues is a warped amalgamation of miscues, half-truths, and boundless joy to twist and churn as true love dictates. Right from the start, Millie’s frenetic energy was comparable to Hazel’s from a book ago (as was Reid’s equanimity in comparison to Josh’s). That similarity wasn’t a criticism. Chemistry was firing on all cylinders for Millie and Reid. Only this book was a much slower-paced story with occasional meandering scenes. Millie is stunted this way, I suppose. She stops and goes, giving off conflicting vibes.

This is how Reid was caught so unawares. But back to the story… Millie and Reid are surreptitiously savoring their night that shall not be mentioned, but both are forging ahead with their circle of friends on joining a dating app to find plus-ones for a departmental soiree. When the guys meet with relative success, but Millie is being propositioned by shallow suitors, Millie thinks outside the box, and sets up a second, anonymous profile. Here, she reveals deeper truths and puts herself out there like never before. Guess who turns out to be a match, like “98% compatible”? Duh…Reid. Only Reid believes her name is Cat. Millie’s great, their night was great, Reid could maybe want more of those nights, but Cat…she’s open and stimulating. Their messaging compulsive. Oh! What a tangled web we weave… Fear of rejection or admitting real feelings propelled Millie into creating the nom de plume. But making Cat so appealing, genuinely catching Reid ‘s interest, is now Millie’s cross to bear. “I mean, let’s not forget I basically catfished my best friend.” Now Millie has to reconcile those subsequent emotions, fallout?, and only herself to blame for the original deceit.

What a mess. Her heart might have been more ready than her head. Reid and Millie are extraordinarily compatible. Their shared sensibilities and hopes aren’t carefully crafted, they’re innately driven. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the ending and that HEA will be achieved — Christina Lauren are goddesses of romance. But it’s pulling off that threat, the very real danger to your forever ever after, that is significant to a reader. Millie’s vulnerability is a feat in and of itself; tremendous and pivotal to the success of earning trust. Does she possess the strength to go for what she wants or will she sit back and lick her wounds?

I enjoyed My Favorite Half-Night Stand. Falling in love is as exciting as it is nerve wracking and Christina Lauren know their way around its pitfalls and swoons. You are treated to hilarious moments and painful introspection on the road to fresh perspective. I did feel like certain plotlines lingered too long while some could’ve used more passion to pack a punch, but it’s a satisfying read. These ladies deliver and I hope it’s not too long before the next journey of love arrives.

Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon – a Review

Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon – a Review

Born of BetrayalAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Years ago, family loyalty caused Fain Hauk to give up everything he loved: His military career. His planet. His fiancée. Even his name.

Now decades later, everything has changed. He’s built a new life out of the ashes of his old, and he’s vowed to never let anything threaten his loved ones again.

But when old enemies align themselves with new ones, he’s caught in the middle of a brutal war. And when fate throws his former fiancée back into his world and she has her own agenda that includes taking his head for what he did to her years ago, more than just his life is at stake. The fate of the Ichidian universe and that of his brothers-in-arms hangs in the balance. Winner take all.

It’s kill or be killed, and never has the battle been more fierce…

Or more fun.

Review:

Holy Hanna, what a book!! The last line of the book synopsis couldn’t be more fitting. The battles in this one were fierce and at times deadly, you didn’t know who your could trust or not trust, but it was also a lot of fun to read. I absolutely loved Born of Betrayal. Finally learning about what happened to Fain and Galene all those years ago was worth the wait. What a story they had to tell, and I was on the edge of my seat every moment along the way.   Born of Betrayal had more twists/turns, ups/downs and surprises in it then a rollercoaster ride at Disneyland. I can’t count the times Ms. Kenyon managed to tie me up in knots over events and some of her surprises that took place in this book. Now when I say surprises, you’d think it be fun and happy right? Nooooo, she pulled some mean surprises on me, to the point where I couldn’t stop reading till I found out if it were true, or Ms. Kenyon was yanking my chain. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to untangle my nerves again after reading this one. Ms. Kenyon should have put a warning label on this book: “Warning, be prepared to be a nervous wreck, wanting to pull your hair out, feeling like you’ve been put through hell while crying your heart out!” That pretty much sums up my emotional journey as I read Born of Betrayal.

Speaking of the twists and surprises, I can’t elaborate on any of it or I’d spoil too much of the book and I hate spoiling plot line for people. Plus, if I did elaborate, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the emotional journey that I experienced…evil laughter echo’s throughout our forum, LOL!! I’d hate for you not to experience all that is Fain and Galene’s story. Even though I did feel like I was being tormented at times while reading this one, there were also a lot of bright spots in Born of Betrayal. Thanks to Kenyon’s sick sense of humour and spot on sarcasm with her characters and their unique personalities. I especially enjoyed the courting scenes between Fain and Galene with their grown son Talyn as their chaperone. Poor Fain, and what his son put him through in this one. We met Talyn and learned his story in the previous installment Born of Defiance. The dynamics between Fain and his son were interesting to watch unfold. They went from barely speaking to each other, to having one of the best reunion/acceptance scenes I’ve ever read. Let me tell you, that scene was so touching and heart-wrenching to read that I had tears tracking down my face, and it’s a scene that will stay with me for a while yet.   Beautifully written, well done Ms. Kenyon. Another lovely and well written scene was Felicia and Talyn’s Unification(a wedding as we know them). It was emotional but in a good way, and seeing Fain’s family reunited for that event filled my heart with joy for Fain, Talyn and Galene. After being apart for so long, they finally had a family moment they could treasure for the rest of their lives.

I absolutely loved every minute of Born of Betrayal. It was emotional, funny, serious, suspenseful, and deadly. I also enjoyed seeing past characters return to reunite, support each other and do battle with their enemies. This series has a great cast of characters and they each bring something special and unique to each book.   Ms. Kenyon didn’t leave a stone unturned in this one. She brought it full throttle and I can’t wait to read Born of Legend. Based on the tidbits I’ve read online for that one, and it’s main couple, we are in for a bumpy ride, filled with much of what I’ve come to expect from Sherrilyn Kenyon. The ending to Born of Betrayal left me with more questions then answers, and wanting more information then what I was given. I’m not happy I have to wait 7 months to get to the next installment and find out what happened where this one ended.

Until next time my fellow Menyons, happy reading!!!

But can he save her from himself?

Review:
So who killed Death?  It was almost a joke.  Irony sucked.

It’s up to the remaining 3 Horsemen of La Campagnie (The Company) to discover just that.  Especially for Sam, aka, War.  This was an affront; Jack was their leader, and a battle Sam would deliver to exact rightful vengeance.  Now why on earth would Jack bequeath a spectacular wedding dress (diamond-encrusted bodice) to his niece, Chloe?  It must be a clue!  With it came instructions to trust Sam, and Chloe was just as blood-thirsty for justice.  Hunting alongside Chloe didn’t suck (in his dreams!)  Did I just write hunting?  Well, yeah…vampire’s hunt!  Bury the lead, why don’t I? 😀  It’s why I took the story in the first place (no surprise).  But after one visit to Sharon Ashwood’s hilarious blog, I knew I was bound for something special.  Possessed by a Warrior was a tantalizing, sumptuous tale of romance and thrills.  I already plan on gifting this to my friends!

“War was meant for killing, not affairs of the heart.”  Whatever lets you sleep at night, Sam.  Hardened against any possibility of a loving relationship, Sam constantly admonishes himself with his credo for the lingering fantasies revolved around Chloe:  Women like her die around creatures like you.  The mutual attraction sizzled, however, and the observations, the “sizing up”, refused to be ignored.  Ms. Ashwood maintained Sam at a discreet distance (heavy on the brooding), but aroused with a silent seduction of luscious and heated monologue.

She was pretty, but it was a sense of poised energy that made her remarkable – like an arrow about to fly.  He couldn’t help watching, expectant for the moment, wondering what would happen if she finally sprang lose.

Hell-bent on keeping distance from Chloe, lest his unnatural being taint her (although Chloe doesn’t suspect), Chloe grabs the proverbial reins by the hand, to hell with that “need-to-know” basis, and launches her own investigation.  When she discovers Jack’s recent whereabouts included meeting with a famous dress designer *ding*, who died recently *ding*, and now Jack was dead…DING!

Of the three people in that scene, Chloe was the only one who hadn’t been murdered.  Yet.  What’s the connection?  The answer was obvious.  Jessica Lark [designer] was –

And then the action really takes off when someone breaks into Chloe’s bedroom, intent on stealing, killing, for possession of the precious wedding dress.  A bitter civil war raging between rival families since the Crusades has presented itself in the middle of Jack’s murder, and each side demands restitution.  Sam’s hard-fought subdued demeanor disappears, replaced by the lethal predator necessary to protect Chloe.

But there was hunger in Sam’s gaze that went beyond a man thinking a woman was pretty.  Beyond lust or possession or control.  It was as if he wanted to devour her.

I, too, fell under Sam’s enchantment, by way of Sharon Ashwood, lol.  38% in and I savored every moment, every word – it would end all too soon.  If there was one criticism, it was Sam waiting until the “morning after” for the big reveal.  I would have preferred full disclosure instead of “you weren’t supposed to remember that part” (and then I would have gone back for thirds!)  Unfortunately, breaking the rules leads to lethal consequences in this supernatural world of The Company.  Is their forbidden love worth it?  Other than that, Sam is one swooooon-worthy vampire and I implore you to read this book!

Maybe it was time War chose his own battles.  It meant breaking every other bond he had, but what would he not give for a chance at real happiness?

*Swoon with me…resistance is futile!*

I joined and that opened a lot of doors for me. I got published by winning a local contest that put my manuscript on an editor’s desk. That was around 2005.

TRC:  What was your first book ever published?

Sharon:  Ravenous: the Dark Forgotten came out in 2008 just as the economy collapsed. I have breath-taking timing sometimes. This was the first of four urban fantasy romances. The others were Scorched, Unchained, and Frostbound, which is still my favorite book.

These were the first books published as Sharon Ashwood. Prior to that, I wrote some historicals and a huge number of non-fiction articles.

TRC:   How did you come up with the idea for the Horsemen series?  How many books are you planning for this series?

Sharon:  There are four in the Horsemen series, two this year and two next. The entire series involves a royal wedding between two tiny Mediterranean countries that have been rivals for centuries. The wedding, which is a love match, will bring peace, but there are factions who don’t want that. The Horsemen (three vampires and a werewolf) are a special ops team from a supernatural spy agency. Their job is to make sure the wedding goes off without interference, but the more they get involved, the more tentacles of a huge plot emerge. There are four self-contained adventures, but they paint a larger picture that comes together in the last book. It has been huge fun to write.

As to where the inspiration came from—I was playing around with ideas for a police story and it kind of wandered off and did its own thing when I wasn’t looking. I really liked the idea of a wedding—it’s happy and full of promise—and one day I was watching a wedding party drive by and thought, yes!  And then after I turned in the series proposal, Will and Kate announced their engagement and I thought, thank you! I had a real royal wedding to observe as I wrote the stories. I don’t think much crossed over into my story world, but it was kind of cool.

warrior smallTRC:   Possessed by a Warrior is the first book in this series, and was released May 1st.  Can you please give us a brief description of this book?

Sharon:  In a nutshell, is the Horseman they call War. He’s like James Bond with fangs, all very suave and cool and collected, but then his best friend Jack (aka Death) is killed. He ends up helping Jack’s niece wind up his estate. Chloe is a wedding planner and she inherits a designer dress from Jack that’s covered in diamonds—and it’s at the core of a series of murders. She’s next. Add chase scenes, a horrible mother of the bride, a werewolf with a comic streak, hairspray, and one very conflicted vampire, and you get the idea. Sam and Chloe are a great couple. He’s a straight arrow faced with hard choices, and she’s not backing down when it comes to keeping control of her life and loves. The book is pure paranormal romance. I like to think of it as a fantasy with just enough bite to keep it interesting but not so much it spoils the fun. It’s the kind of book I would read in a lawn chair with a cold drink on a summer Sunday afternoon.

immortalsmallTRC:  The second book, Possessed by an Immortal is scheduled to be releases on June 1st.  Can you give us a brief description of this story?

Sharon:  Dr. Mark Winspear (Plague) is a different character than Sam. He’s a medical doctor now, but as a vampire, he’s got a long, painful history. He lost his human family in a horrible way and now he’s the poster child for Vampire 101: Basic Brooding. So there he is in his cabin on a remote island and Bree literally washes up on his doorstep with her sick child. Naturally, he helps out and before he knows it she has him at gunpoint. She’s desperate, scared to death, and on the run from the same bad guys as are after Mark.

However, they have to get the boy to specialized medical help, which means a long road trip dodging and hiding from their enemies. But while they’re physically running, Mark and Bree have to stop emotionally running. For one thing, she’s got an important tie to the royal wedding, which makes her vulnerable on a bunch of different levels. For another, Mark’s been a father before and really doesn’t want to suffer the pain of losing his family again. And by the way, who is the boy’s real father?

TRC Note: We will be reviewing Possessed by an Immortal on June 20th

TRC:   Can you please tell us about your Dragon Lord series?

Sharon:  These are Cravings novellas, so they’re meant to be short. I wanted to write about dragon shifters, and this was the perfect format to try something a little different. There are two stories, and the first is Lord Dragon’s Conquest. In it, an archaeologist discovers the dragon society and upsets the balance of power that’s held the dragons in thrall for centuries. I love the fact that Keltie is only a junior professor, but she finds something that makes the stuffy old guys in her department drool with envy. Anyway, the real question is how the dragons will react when their whole world is blown apart by a mere human female.

Valkyrie’s Conquest goes in a different direction, and tells the story of one of those dragons a few years later, and what happens when he stumbles into urban warfare between the Norse gods and the legions of hell. Odin has frozen the hearts of his warrior maidens, but his power is fading. Tyra, my Valkyrie, rebels against Odin’s rules after meeting a stunning example of dragon manhood.

TRC:  What are you working on today?

Sharon:  The fourth Horseman book, Possessed by the Fallen.

TRC:  Many authors have friends or family, that they bounce ideas and information back and forth.  Do you have anyone you like to discuss your stories with?

Sharon:  Yes, I have my critique group and a couple of Beta readers who listen to me ramble and are happy to tell me when I suck.

111TRC:  On your website, you have a blog which has some cute posts from The Demon Lord (your cat).  What is your cat’s name, and how did you come up with idea of posts from the mouth of Kitty Badness?

Sharon:  I jokingly refer to my cat as the Demon Lord of Kitty Badness. The name on his vet’s file is Jordan, which is what the shelter named him. By the time I rescued him, there was little hope of retraining him to answer to something else, or much of anything, really. He was a little cuss as a kitten and has never entirely lost that side of his personality.

He started posting early on because a blogger wanted posts from writers’ pets and he got way more response than I did. Of course that went to his head, and he considers himself the real talent in the family.

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

Sharon:   My greatest wish is that readers have as much fun reading my books as I do writing them! And I love to hear feedback, so never hesitate to drop me a note.

LIGHTNING ROUND

Favorite Food: Produce fresh from the farmer’s market, maybe with crusty bread and a soft cheese.

Favorite Dessert: Something with fruit, like a flan.

Favorite TV Show: This varies. At the moment, Grimm, but I can’t wait to see what happens on Chicago Fire.

Favorite Movie: I’m always up for a good horror classic, like Dracula. I prefer Gary Oldman’s version.

Last Book You Read: The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

Favorite Fictional Character (not your own): Probably Sam from The Lord of the Rings. He was in over his head, but he always had a solid sense of who he was and what was truly of value. As time goes on, I really admire those qualities more and more.

Milk or Dark Chocolate: Dark

TRC: Thank you Sharon, for taking the time to answer our questions.  We wish you the best of luck with both new books from your Horsemen series

Sharon:  And thanks to you and all your readers! Now, here’s a question for them:  When it comes to reading about authors and their pets, do you think their pets tell the truth? Who are the bigger liars, cats or dogs?
