ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 13, 2021

This time, romance isn’t the only thing undercover(s).

It’s not exactly a traditional date night to get involved in a shootout. Then again, there’s nothing traditional about Lyra and Marcus. It was hard enough to hide their undercover work from each other–but discovering that their agencies are sworn enemies? Awkward.

Lyra has never been known for her impulse control, but shooting her boyfriend is definitely an all-time low. Marcus isn’t the type of agent to disobey orders, but he can’t seem to keep his eyes–or hands–off the infuriating woman he’s supposed to forget. Danger is closing in from all sides, forcing them to team up to solve their mutual problem… but the enemy is already closer than either of them know.

REVIEW:THE ASSASSIN IN 5F is the second instalment in Nan Malone’s contemporary, adult COVERT AFFAIRS romantic suspense duet focusing on British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra ‘Adamson’ Wilkinson. THE ASSASSIN IN 5F should be not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one THE SPY IN 3B.

SOME BACKGROUND: British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra Wilkinson are both Black Ops agents working on opposite sides of the pond, both contracted to take down a terrorist cell but someone has targeted our story line heroine, and in this, Lyra is unable to trust the man with whom she is falling in love.

NOTE: If you have not read book one, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Marcus and Lyra) THE ASSASSIN IN 5F picks up immediately after the events of book one in which Lyra believes she has killed Exodus agent Marcus Black, but in the aftermath, someone is gunning to take down our story line heroine. With Marcus’ ‘return from the dead’ Lyra will discover that everything she knows about her life is a series of secrets and lies, and with the help of her best friend Addie, and Marcus’ team at Exodus, Lyra must confront the person responsible only to end up a prisoner of the people in charge. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Marcus and Lyra, and the potential fall-out as secrets, lies and betrayal begin to affect our story line heroine.

The relationship between Lyra and Marcus continues to be fraught with issues of trust. Both have lied to one another about the who, how and why, and in this trust is the leading factor in their relationship going to forward. Lyra is receiving different messages from so called family, friends and co-workers, struggling to believe between what she learned, and what she has been told. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense but for a woman who is unable to trust the man with whom she is falling in love, jumping right back into a sexual relationship is questionable on soooooo many levels.

Once again, we welcome the return of Roz’s best friend and agent Addie Franklin; their boss Roz, and Lyra’s ex Tyler Warden, as well as Marcus’ best friend and partner Rhodes Matheson. I would like to see something develop between Addie and Rhodes.

THE ASSASSIN IN 5F is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, retaliation, accusations, relationships and love. A story of family and friendships, deception and treason. The fast paced, action-packed premise is tragic, gritty, inviting and engaging; the characters are stubborn and spirited ; the romance is edgy, spicy and dramatic.

USA Today bestseller Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she “borrowed” from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion, and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 25, 2021.

Sometimes, romance is (also) hiding in plain sight.

It’s hard to fill out a dating profile when everything you write is a lie. But in her line of work, Lyra can’t exactly tell the truth. And she’s determined to get over the man who broke her heart by moving on, so here she is, lying on a dating app. Then again, so is he.

Lyra is no marketing consultant, but a plucky undercover operator. Marcus isn’t really a videogame designer, but he is obsessive over codes. Both of them are elite undercover agents, and unknown to each other, are each tracking down the same dangerous double agent. As the case heats up, so does their chemistry…but their mutual desire to come clean becomes more impossible with every lie.

REVEW:  THE SPY IN 3B is the first instalment in Nana Malone’s contemporary, adult COVERT AFFAIRS romantic suspense duet focusing on British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra ‘Adamson’ Wilkinson.Told from dual first person perspectives (Marcus and Lyra) THE SPY IN 3B follows the building romance and relationship between British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra Wilkinson, only there is a caveat-neither one knows the other is Black Ops agent working opposite sides of the pond. Lyra Wilkinson has been ordered by her superiors to enter into a committed relationship with someone outside of The Firm-enter Lyra’s neighbor-Marcus Black-a game designer by day, a British agent by night. A series of failed attempts to date, and an overlap of assignments figures prominently into Lyra and Marcus’s fledgling relationship but all is about to spiral out of control as both The Firm and Exodus have been assigned the same target. What ensues is the uneasy but building relationship between Lyra and Marcus, and the potential fall-out as secrets are about to be revealed.

The Firm and Exodus were once part of the same Deep Ops group but a fall-out between the original partners led to the break down, and start up of two entirely different Black Ops operations, both doing the same work, but in opposition to one another. Unbeknownst to our leading couple, The Firm and Exodus are about to execute a similar assignment, placing Lyra and Marcus on opposing teams.

The relationship between Lyra and Marcus is one of immediate attraction but both have loved and lost in the past. Lyra feels compelled to obey her superiors but is blindsided when her past is assigned to her team. Marcus knows love and loss first hand, but knows Lyra may be the woman that can free his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to friends and fellow operatives: Roz’s best friend and agent Addie Franklin; their boss Roz, and Lyra’s ex Tyler Warden, as well as Marcus’ best friend and partner Rhodes Matheson.

THE SPY IN 3B is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, attraction, relationships, friendships and betrayal. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is captivating; the characters are energetic and secretive. THE SPY IN 3B ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Or the fact that she’ll have to break her own rules to grab hold of the passion she’s always wanted.

Review:

First Temptation by Joan Swan is a novella, which is part of her Covert Affairs series. The first book in this series, Intimate Enemies was great, a true romance suspense thriller, as well as having steamy sex scenes.  First Temptation, though a novella, is also romance suspense, but this book took the steamy sex to the next level.  The difference between the two, perhaps because it is a novella, but in First Temptation, I felt the suspense story was totally overshadowed by the hot steamy sex scenes, with sex toys.  I enjoy steamy sex in  books I read, but I do prefer when its part of the story, not when it is the main theme.

However, that being said, Joan Swan knows how to write a story with super characters.  I loved Taft and Zoe, as our couple in this book.  Zoe is a Border Patrol Agent, and a tough as nails leader, but she wants to move onto something different; especially after having lost one of her men while back.  She has an interview with ICED leader Rio, and he has the perfect job for her, then she meets Taft, who is to be her partner in this sting; the two of them get off on the wrong foot.

Taft is an experienced Counterterrorism Agent, and he looks down upon Zoe.  Since they have to act like a married couple in an Adult Only Store, he feels she can’t handle it.  It doesn’t take too long for her to change his mind, as she puts on a show for him.  Zoe also has a lot of experience with the Mexican drug cartel, as being a Border Patrol Agent, she has been responsible to bringing down many of them.  When they begin working together, Taft finds himself totally falling for Zoe, but she holds back, as she does not believe in becoming involved with someone she works with, having had a very bad experience.  Needless to say, in a very short time, their sexual chemistry is so hot, neither can avoid each other.  At first when I met Taft, I wasn’t crazy about his macho attitude, but that changed quickly.  He turned out to be a fabulous hero; sexy hot, wonderful sense of humor, and his charm won Zoe over.  I loved Zoe, as she was a great heroine, and her and Taft were totally smoking hot together.

The suspense part of the story was good, but I would have liked more attention on this, though the end was exciting, with Zoe being in danger, as her identity was compromised.  There were some surprises and twists at the end that was done very well.

I am a fan of Joan Swan, especially her Phoenix Rising series, and First Temptation was a  very good read, especially for a novella.  If you are a fan of romance suspense, with a hot steamy couple, Joan is one of the best.  If you like an erotica element added to your romance, and Joan knows how to push all the buttons in this one, then First Temptation is a must for you.
