REVIEW:CROSSOVER is the second instalment in Kathy Lockheart’s contemporary, adult CROSS romantic suspense duet focusing on CIA operative Grayson Lockwood, and ER nurse Ivy. Grayson was first introduced in the Vendetta Duet focusing on his brother Hunter. CROSSOVER should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book one CROSSFIRE.

SOME BACKGROUND: Grayson Lockwood’s latest assignment spiralled out of control when a young woman interrupted what was supposed to be the takedown of a dangerous arms dealer . Curious as to the who what and how, Grayson goes on the hunt only to discover his next target is our story line heroine. Grayson has been ordered to kill the woman with whom he is falling in love but all is not as it appears to be. On the run, hoping to protect the woman he was ordered to kill, Grayson quickly discovers that the CIA is refusing to back down, and they are determined to terminate our story line heroine.

If you have not read book one, there may be spoilers in my review

Told from Told from dual first person perspectives (Grayson and Ivy) CROSSOVER is the continuing journey between CIA operative Grayson Lockwood, and ER nurse Ivy. Having fallen in love without story line heroine, Grayson Lockwood knew his latest assignment may be all a ruse. With the help of his brothers, and a fellow CIA agent, Grayson’s need to uncover the truth follows a trail of betrayal, vengeance, secrets and lies. Ivy, desperate to prove her father’s death was not a suicide, has caught the attention of some very powerful people, people who are refusing to back down or let go. With a target on their backs, Grayson and Ivy must come to terms the possibility of an agent gone rogue, and the inevitable revelations as to the who, how and why.

The world building continues to focus on the search for the truth as Ivy struggles with her father’s death, and the betrayal by the man with whom she had fallen in love. Not all is at it appears to be, as the CIA discovers they are no longer in control of an operation that was never meant to be.

The building relationship between Ivy and Grayson struggles in the face of secrets and lies. Heartbreaking betrayal from the past gives rise to the truth; acceptance and forgiveness will come at a cost. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, we are reintroduced to Grayson’s brothers Jace, Bryson, Hunter and his wife Luna, Detective Mitchell, Grayson’s handler Daniel, as well as Ivy’s mother, her grandmother; CIA agent Seth. The requisite evil has many faces.

CROSSOVER is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, murder and mayhem, family and relationships, forgiveness and love. The fast paced premise is action packed, dramatic and intriguing; the romance is provocative but struggles with issues of trust; the characters are charismatic and determined.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 10, 2024

In my defense, I didn’t know he was sent to kill me when I fell in love with him.

Grayson. Dark. Dangerous. Irresistible.

One moment, he’s making me feel alive for the first time since Dad died. The next? He’s got a cold steel blade to my throat. Turns out, Mr. Tall, Dark, and Homicidal is actually an assassin ordered to kill me.

Now I’m his prisoner. I hate that his touch still ignites my soul, each one a cruel reminder that the next could be my last. I want to believe he would never actually hurt me, but Grayson’s code is absolute: eliminate any threat to innocents. And someone’s working overtime to convince him I’m guilty… Who? And why?

As secrets unravel, I’m forced to confront the shocking truth about why Grayson was sent to silence me forever… Leaving me with one haunting question:

Will the man who gave me a reason to live become the one who takes my life?
