Die For Me (A Novel of the Valentine Killer) by Cynthia Eden-a review

DIE FOR ME (A Novel of the Valentine Killer) by Cynthia Eden

Die For Me

Amazon / Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 2013

She thought her fiancé was the perfect man—until he turned out to be the perfect killer…

Katherine Cole is running for her life, desperate to escape the Valentine Killer—so-called because he stabs his victims through the heart and leaves them holding a telltale single red rose. Still he tracks her to New Orleans and begins carving a bloody path to her door. But this time, Katherine refuses to run any farther. This time, she’ll do anything to stop the madman she once loved, even trust the sexy cop promising to keep her safe…

Detective Dane Black never lets his emotions interfere with his job, even as the Valentine Killer surfaces in New Orleans to stalk his prey. But when Dane agrees to protect the killer’s ex-fiancée, Katherine Cole, he can’t ignore the passion kindling between them. After a single unforgettable night binds them body and soul, Dane knows he won’t rest until Katherine is safe in his arms—and the Valentine Killer is dead.

************

REVIEW: DIE FOR ME is a contemporary suspense storyline of murder and love. And the sociopathic mind that cannot separate the two.

Cynthia takes the reader on a journey of twists and turns, revelations and obsessions-a serial killer with a need to protect one woman at all costs; and a homicide detective with the same mission-but with a completely different set of morals and obligations. Love comes at a cost.

We follow Katherine as she endeavors to start a new life but the ritualistic murder of a television reporter hits too close to home and Katherine knows that the Valentine Killer has found her again. But going to the police brought more complications when she became their number one suspect. There was only one detective who knew that Katherine Cole was no murderer.

Cynthia intertwines the lives of many of the NOPD detectives, investigators, medical examiners, family and friends-and each will be affected and come into contact with a killer-but is there a copycat doing the work of the Valentine Killer. As the number of murder victims increase, so too, do the accusations, personal vendettas and plots of revenge. And each new victim is somehow linked to Katherine. Is the killer trying to send a message or set Katherine up for the fall?

The attraction between Dane and Katherine was immediate, but Dane knew that sleeping with a potential witness and possible suspect adds a whole other dimension to the investigation. But the pull between Dane and Katherine was obvious to everyone and even the killer kept his eye on Katherine at all times.

DIE FOR ME is a well-written and amazing storyline that you think you have figured out from the start. Although there were certain aspects of the storyline that were easily guessed there are a couple of twists –the question is not so much as whom but how? There is a strong family of secondary characters who play an integral part throughout the storyline. The characters were well developed and you knew that at some point each will have a story to tell.

Styxx and Acheron

For all of the DARK HUNTER series fans of SHERRILYN KENYON:

Sherrilyn Kenyon
Styxx launch update. The release date for Styxx has not changed. It’s still set for 9/3/13. But those who attend the launch party at DragonCon (you do *NOT* have to purchase a DragonCon membership/pass to attend the launch party, but Sherri will be attending DC that entire weekend+Monday and will be hanging out with fans and appearing at additional signings, the parade and on various panels throughout the weekend) can get the book early on Aug 29, 2013. So the Styxx launch party is Aug 29, 2013 in the Marriott Marquis on Courtland in Atlanta, GA. The Styxx tour will begin on 9-3-13 with the official on-sale date for the book. We don’t have the cities where Sherri and Dianna will be yet during the Styxx tour, but will post those as soon as we have them.

2013 is the year of Styxx (and that is the title of the book) and those who loved Acheron, won’t want to miss this book as Acheron is a HUGE part of it from beginning to end. You will see a lot of scenes with Ash and Styxx, along with the Atlantean and Greek gods, that have never appeared in previous books and this includes a lot about Ash’s and Styxx’s childhood, both together and separate. And like Acheron, the book is huge in size. And it answers a lot of questions about the series and some of the more complicated relationships. Like Ash, Styxx is a very complicated character and we will be having snippets and other fun tidbits in the months leading up to the release of the book. Sherri will be making appearances online to answer questions about the twins soon, too.

So to reiterate the release of Styxx is Tuesday, 9-3-13, but the release/launch party with prizes, costume contest, characters, etc. is Thursday, 8-29-13 in Atlanta at the Marriott Marquis.

The Wolf Within (Purgatory #1) by Cynthia Eden-a review

THE WOLF WITHIN (Purgatory #1) by Cynthia Eden

THE WOLF WITHIN is the November 15th, 2012 release from Cynthia Eden’s NEW paranormal Purgatory series. Like the name implies, Purgatory is a holding prison for members of the supernatural race, only this Purgatory holds the ones who cannot be controlled.

Duncan McGuire is one of the FBI Para Unit’s most lethal and powerful werewolf hunters, but on this night Duncan would become the victim of a werewolf bite that will force his partner to make the decision to either end or save his life. What Duncan doesn’t know is that there are others in the FBI with secrets and powers, and Duncan has become a pawn in a game between the Feds and an unknown source. People in power know the history of every agent, and Duncan’s family history hides a few skeletons that even he is not aware.

Holly Young is the Unit doctor who patches up the bullet wounds and broken bones whenever an agent is hurt. Holly believes she is unlike anyone else in the FBI and she is hoping to keep her identity a secret. But when Duncan McGuire is brought into her office on the verge of turning wolf, Holly will discover that Duncan’s wolf will lay claim to Holly as his mate. And Holly knows that the secret she is hiding, is the very one that calls Duncan to her blood.

We are introduced to several of Duncan and Holly’s fellow agents, as well as Holly’s stepbrother Pate. Pate is a rather interesting character and one that I am not sure if I like. As the Para Unit commander it is Pate’s duty to ensure his men are well aware of the risks and dangers, but Pate continues to expose his men to an ever-increasing world of evil. Pate is a player in a much larger game, and he too hides a few secrets of his own. He is a user and he will use anyone or anything, including his sister and his friend, to keep the Unit strong.

Holly and Duncan have always been attracted to one another, but since her accident the year before, Holly has kept her distance. Pate is trying to help Holly with her recovery, but Pate’s actions will place everyone, including his sister in danger. Duncan’s wolf wants its mate and nothing will stop him from claiming Holly.

THE WOLF WITHIN is a fast paced story with plenty of twists and secrets that have yet to be revealed. You think you know the bad guy – just wait !  There is a struggle for power within the FBI and the supernaturals will pay the ultimate price when one of their own is hoping to start a war. The FBI has been compromised and the Para Unit will have to go under cover to discover who is pulling the strings.

And….it doesn’t hurt…. Francesco J Cura is on the cover !!!!!

The Better to Bite (Howl Trilogy #1) by Cynthia Eden

The Better to Bite (Howl Trilogy #1) by Cynthia Eden

THE BETTER TO BITE (Howl Trilogy #1) by Cynthia Eden

THE BETTER TO BITE is the first installment (November 2012 release) in Cynthia Eden’s new young adult Howl trilogy. This is Cynthia’s first foray into the genre of YA literature introducing the town of Haven and its’ magical inhabitants of werewolves, witches and hunters.

The woods are not safe but Anna Lambert is drawn to the eerie darkness and the unknown. Hunted and stalked by the very creatures of her nightmares, Anna will be rescued not once, but twice, by local bad boy Rafe, when he is inexplicably present whenever a wolf attack is imminent. And Rafe’s attraction to Anna will garner some unwanted attention at school.

‘Cursed’ with the ability to find ‘lost’ things, Anna has always known she was different, and the move to Haven is supposed to help Anna and her father start a new life. But horrific memories of her mother’s murder continue to haunt Anna and the move to Haven will fuel the anger of the townsfolk when it is revealed that Anna and her family have a connection to the town. With her ability to find the lost, Anna’s father (Haven’s sheriff) reluctantly uses his daughter’s powers to help locate the missing and dead victims in and around the town of Haven, but in doing so, will reveal his daughter’s special talent to the very people who were hoping her family heritage had long been buried and gone. Anna’s father had hidden a family secret that he had hoped would never be revealed and the town of Haven held more secrets than Anna ever thought could exist. Sheriff Lambert’s love for his daughter is never questioned and her safety is his number one priority, but the lives of the townspeople are threatened and Anna is the only person with the ability to ‘find the lost’.

16year old Anna is new to Haven, and like any beautiful teenaged girl, she draws the eye of every young man at the local high school including Rafe’s ex best friend and former girlfriend. Keeping her ‘curse’ a secret will be a problem when Anna finds herself a victim of a set-up and her powers will be revealed when she must retrieve the missing item.

There is a love triangle (sigh) developing, and tempers flair when Anna is warned to stay away, but the attacks against Anna will come from an unlikely source, when the identity of the wolves would reveal the true nature of the killings and their connection to Anna, her father and the town of Haven.

THE BETTER TO BITE is a fast paced storyline with a few twists and plot turns that will keep you turning the pages until the very end. Cynthia has drawn together a fascinating group of characters, and like most YA storylines, the young adults take center stage most of the time. I liked that Cynthia did not make the adults a series of cartoon replicas and accorded them with respect. Magic and the supernatural are the underlying cause of many of the town of Haven’s problems, and the resulting prejudices and stereotyping will force a young woman into a lifestyle she was hoping to avoid. THE BETTER TO BITE is a welcome addition to the young adult category and I am looking forward to THE BETTER TO HOWL in 2013.

Guys, ICED is NOT Young Adult. Dani ages during the next three books of the Fever Series. Yes, there’s sex. I like writing about sex. I always write about sex. No, 14-year old Dani doesn’t have sex. Other people do. Nor does 14 -year old (at the start of the trilogy) Dani make it a book by or for a 14 year old. I promise you all the magic you’ve come to expect from the Fever World.
