REVIEW:SWEET OBSESSION is the eighth instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult DARK OLYMPUS erotic, urban fantasy series, a modern retelling of the gods and goddesses of Olympus. This is Poseidon, and Icarus Vitalis’ story line. SWEET OBSESSION can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including same $ex scenarios and BDSM situation, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Not all is well in Olympus. The barrier between Olympus and the rest of the world is collapsing, and the attacks in the upper city have become dangerous and deadly. The fight for power and control within the ruling circle of Thirteen has resulted in a number of deaths-someone is determined to destroy that which is no longer theirs to control.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Poseidon and Icarus) SWEET OBSESSION follows the building romance and relationship between Icarus and Poseidon as the gods and goddesses of Olympus prepare for war. Icarus is Poseidon’s prisoner, a prisoner who is determined to ease the darkness that is choking the man with whom Icarus will fall in love but war has come to Olympus, and Icarus may have the ammunition to keep the enemy at bay.

The world building follows preparations for war as the gods and goddesses take sides in a fight for power. Family will target family, friends must take control before everything and everyone is sacrificed.

The relationship between begins when Icarus becomes Poseidon’s prisoner but Icarus suspects Poseidon is struggling with his place in Olympus, and his need to give up control to someone else. As Icarus begins a slow seduction of Poseidon, others see a potential for betrayal by someone who has already been judged. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense including same $ex scenarios and BDSM situations.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters including the return of Hera, Zeus, Hermes, Hades and Circe.

SWEET OBSESSION is a story of power and control, obsession and acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic , intriguing and entertaining; the romance is passionate; the characters are captivating and desperate.

I don’t know why I immediately trusted Cyrus. He was stunningly gorgeous, nice, and so accommodating that maybe I felt too safe—maybe that was the first red flag. The second was that he always said my missing twin was fine, that he’d come back when he was done traveling and that I should stay put until his return. Looks are deceiving. And I forgot.

Now I’m completely screwed. I’m trapped here until the eclipse and the great Sun God says I’m the last sacrifice he has to make in order to ascend to Olympus. I have so many questions about the mixed mythology and each answer that crawls out of Seattle has me more terrified and confused than the first.
I’m surrounded by fallen angels, demons–basically every terrifying yet perfectly normal looking creature on the planet and working at a bar called Styx, counting the days until two of the very coins I take on a daily basis will be used to cover my travel.

Anubis seems nice enough but I don’t want to die. There has to be a way and I’m hellbent on finding it even if it means I join the other side.

REVIEW: IMMORTAL SUN is the first instalment in Rachel Van Dyken’s contemporary, adult DARK OLYMPUS dark, erotic, mythology series focusing on Cleo, and Cyrus, the Sun god Ra.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Cleo and Cyrus) IMMORTAL SUN follows Cleo as she searches for her twin brother Jake, an archeologist who was last seen near Mt Olympus, Seattle, Washington but all is not as it appears to be, and Cleo will discover she and her brother are the last surviving descendants of Chaos, and her death will free our story line hero. Cyrus, the Sun god Ra, is the god of creation and light, and in order to ascend to the heavens, he is tasked with destroying the human descendants of Chaos, including the woman with whom he will fall in love but Cleo is unlike anyone he and the other gods could have ever imagined, and in this, Cleo’s death threatens the stability of all who survive.

The world building is detailed, complicated, complex and cryptic. Nothing and no one is who they appear to be. Alliances are made, line are drawn, the gods prepare for war as Cyrus goes in search of the woman who controls his heart.

The relationship between Cyrus and Cleo is unique. Cyrus owns the nightclub Styx, and Cleo is working for the man she believes can lead to her brother but Cyrus is determined to ascend to Olympus, and Cleo is the only human standing in his way. Cyrus finds himself falling for the woman he must destroy, a fall his is unable to comprehend or deny. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of powerful, questionable and charismatic gods and goddesses including the gods who are task with preparing Cleo for her death. We are introduced Tyrell, Daggon, Apep, Inti, as well as Bast, Rat , Cow and Anubis.

IMMORTAL SUN is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, mythology and lore, acceptance and love. The slow building premise is elaborate, dramatic and edgy; the characters are dynamic, hypnotic and larger than life. IMMORTAL SUN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

My only complaint / concern is the blurb. It is a bit misleading, and only by mention, there is very little effort or exposure to vampires, werewolves, fae etc.

The relationship between Ariadne and Asterion aka The Minotaur is a second chance relationship, of a sorts.Ariadne and Asterion have been dancing around one another since their early teens but Asterion is Minos’ fixer, and his latest target is our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of familiar and colorful secondary and supporting characters including Her, Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes; Ariadne’s brother Icarus, and their father Minos.

DARK RESTRAINT is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and madness, forgiveness and love .The premise is intricate and entertaining; the romance is fated and passionate; the characters are desperate, purposeful and stubborn.

The attacks against the Thirteen owned businesses is increasing, and as the man in charge of Olympus, Hades struggles with the possible threats to the woman he loves. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus, and the potential fall-out as the truth reveals the person(s) behind the attacks.

The world building continues to focus on the fight for power and control of Olympus, and the betrayal and vengeance against their own. As each new member of the ruling Thirteen takes over in the wake of another’s death or murder, someone else is waiting in the wings, to take manipulate and dominate into position.

The relationship between Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus begins acrimoniously. Orpheus has never stopped loving the woman he betrayed, and Charon is determined to make Orpheus beg (like a dog) for forgiveness, anyway he demands, and in this I was not a fan of the humiliation inflicted upon Orpheus Makos. Charon struggles with Eurydice’s need for the man who broke her heart but Orpheus is willing to submit for a future with both. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of powerful, questionable, and charismatic secondary and supporting characters including Hades and Persephone, Zeus, Perseus, Poseidon, Demeter, Callisto aka Hera, Psyche, and more. The requisite evil has many faces.

MIDNIGHT RUIN is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, murder and mayhem, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic and dark; the romance is seductive and erotic; the character are desperate and determined. MIDNIGHT RUIN ends on a bit of a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

NOTE: CRUEL SEDUCTION is a story focusing on a polyamorous relationship including several same $ex situations, with multiple partners.

Told from four first person perspectives (Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Pandora and Adonis) CRUEL SEDUCTION follows in the aftermath of the marriage of convenience between Aphrodite and Hephaestus. Our couple are the newest members of the ruling Thirteen, and someone is pulling the strings behind the scenes. By marrying Aphrodite, Hephaestus all but secures his place in the hierarchy of Olympus but Hephaestus never expected to fall in love with the woman that pushes all of his buttons. Hephaestus reputation as a killer has earmarked him for assassination but targeting his wife means the possibility of two openings on the ruling Thirteen. Meanwhile, Aphrodite’s ex Adonis fears for Aphrodite’s life, and Hephaestus’ best friend Pandora is falling in love with Aphrodite. As Aphrodite and Hephaestus begin to navigate their acrimonious relationship, Adonis and Pandora will round out the four-some, ensuring a tight knit bond for security, protection and love.

The world building continues to focus on the fight for a position with the ruling Thirteen-think of it as the leaders of the strongest Thirteen crime families forging together to make the rules, and enforce their power and control but there is always someone else waiting for a seat at the table-death either by assassination or natural causes, is one way to take take the power from someone else.

The relationship between Aphrodite and Hephaestus aka Eris and Theseus is tempestuous at best. Eris and Theseus despise one another-Eris believes Theseus has targeted her for extermination but Theseus is a dead man walking as his reputation as a killer has made him persona non-grata, and at the top of everybody’s hit list. As our couple slowly set themselves on a path towards love, Adonis and Pandora find that they too, want to be part of the relationship with everyone else. The $ex scenes are erotic, provocative and intense with scenes of multiple partners and same $ex situations.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, powerful and questionable secondary and supporting characters many of who we have met in the previous story lines. We are re-introduced to Theseus adopted brothers Minotaur and Icarus, and their foster father Minos, all of whom has their eye on the ultimate prize.

CRUEL SEDUCTION is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and madness, acceptance and love. The premise is detailed and entertaining but is often waylaid with the numerous first-person narrators such that I had to go back to double-check as to identity of the current speaker; the romance is passionate and steamy; the characters are struggling, embattled, determined and desperate. CRUEL SEDUCTION ends on a happily ever after-for now, there is no resolution in the fight for control.

This is Apollo, and Cassandra Gataki’s story line. RADIANT SIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Apollo and Cassandra) RADIANT SIN follows Apollo and his PA Cassandra as they are tasked by Zeus with ferreting out a potential betrayer in Olympus. Minos, an enemy of Olympus, is trying to ‘buy’ his way onto the ruling Thirteen. An invite-only party, with several members of the Thirteen in attendance, is the perfect opportunity to investigate the potential for disruption but Cassandra Gataki’s family history is dark; twelve years earlier, her parent’s attempts to infiltrate the Thirteen, and their subsequent murders has marked our heroine as guilty by association. Knowing her presence may be the distraction to uncover the truth, Cassandra quickly discovers there are darker plans in motion, plans that result in a murder, an attempted murder, and several missing plus-ones of whom nobody seems to care. As Apollo and Cassandra’s fake relationship slowly turns into something more, Cassandra uncovers a possible betrayal by someone with whom she was once involved. What ensues is the fake but building romance and relationship between Apollo and Cassandra, and the potential fall-out as a murderer is rewarded by Olympus law.

The relationship between Apollo and Cassandra is one of unrequited love; a fake romance that reveals a five-year simmering attraction in which neither one knew about the other’s infatuation. Cassandra has worked for Apollo for close to five years, a position she suspects comes in the face of her parent’s own betrayal.Cassandra is persona non grata in Olympus; rebuked and ostracized at every turn, Cassandra is biding her time until she is able to move on without looking back. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate including some scenes of bondage and rope play, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The premise is dramatic, intriguing and riveting; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are charismatic, dynamic and determined. RADIANT SIN ends on a happily ever after -for now.The conflict has yet to be resolved.

What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Achilles, Patroclus and Helen, and the potential fall-out when sacrifices are made to save the life of one of our story line heroes.

Helen and Achilles have always had a love/hate relationship but throwing them together in competition for the position of Ares is about to pull the trio together to protect one of their own. Patroclus is in love with Achilles, and both men have fallen in love with our story line heroine. Achilles, with the help of Patroclus, is determined to become the next Ares but all three are in the direct line of fire as Olympus begins todo battle with itself.

The relationship between Achilles and Patroclus has already been established but a one-night stand between Achilles and Helen forces Patroclus to reconsider his own future with Achilles. Helen is a strong-willed, independent young woman who knows who and what she wants, and our heroine wants both Achilles and Patroclus by her side when she takes over as the next Ares. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and often troubling secondary and supporting characters including Zeus, Athena, and a large number of gods, as well as the introduction of Helen’s ex Paris, his brother Hector, the Minotaur, and Theseus- there is a war on the horizon for control of Olympus.

WICKED BEAUTY is a story of power and control, influence and administration, determination and competition, friendships, relationships, family and love. The action packed premise is captivating; the romance is passionate and sensual; the characters are determined and charismatic.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Eros and Psyche) ELECTRIC IDOL follows the building but forbidden relationship between twenty-eight year old son of Aphrodite, Eros Ambrosia, and twenty-three year old, social media influencer and daughter of Demeter, Psyche Dimitriou. For years Aphrodite and Demeter have been at war with one another but the recent death of Zeus sees a new Zeus ascending the chair, and the new Zeus is looking for a suitable mate. As Demeter has already tried to match Zeus with her daughter Persephone (Neon Gods 1) who ran and found love with Hades, the god of the lower city, Demeter has set her sights on daughter Psyche as a potential mate for Zeus . Aphrodite has someone else in mind, and commands her son Eros Ambrosia to kill our heroine as a means to end her personal rival Demeter, thusly killing the proverbial ‘two birds with one stone’. Unwilling to kill Psyche Dimitriou, Eros offers his hand in marriage, something he hopes will protect the woman with whom he will fall in love. Psyche wants nothing to do with our story line hero having watched from the sidelines as Eros was commanded by his mother to kill anyone who got in her way. As his mother’s puppet, Eros has been trained from an early age to do his mother’s bidding but our hero is tired of always having to destroy the weak and the innocent. Tired of his mother’s demands, Eros goes rogue in an effort to save our story line heroine, an act of defiance that sees Aphrodite refusing to step away from her ultimate goal.

The relationship between Eros and Psyche is frenemies to lovers relationship in which both are now targeted by Aphrodite. Aphrodite is all about the power, and anyone who stand in her way, or disobeys is subject to her evil commands. Marrying Psyche is the best way to prevent Eros’ mother from attacking but her never suspected that he would fall in love with our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, we are re-introduced to Persephone’s sisters: Callisto, Persephone, and Eurydice, as well as their mother Demeter; Zeus, Hermes and Dionysus, Aphrodite and a large cast of gods and goddesses, and underlings doing everyone’s bidding.

ELECTRIC IDOL is a story of power and control, obsession and jealousy, vengeance, murder, acceptance and love. The premise is entertaining and inventive; the romance is spicy, intimate and seductive; the characters are animated and energetic.
